P 2399 Forgiveness and obedience are our best weapons of choice.

Forgiving others and obeying the Lord’s wishes has become our life’s work. Those two things go together. So much so, that when He shows us something as we read the bible we need to immediately ask Him: “What would You like me to do about that Lord?” And then we go and do it – using our choice not our feelings.

Initially, when the Holy Spirit checked me about stuff I was doing that wasn’t good, I didn’t like it very much. He said things like: “You have resented this person’s influence in your life, you need to start appreciating them.” That meant I had to practice taking my stray thoughts captive, and at the same time I had to stick my hand over my mouth instead of bad-mouthing someone I was mad at. Sadly, I am still not always successful at that…

But the first thing I learnt about myself because of His instruction – was this: I had been using my thoughts and my words as a pressure valve! Anger and resentment built up inward pressure that I needed to deal with. After all your mouth is right there and it works and everything (!) and so I often used my words to cope with bad things that happened, or perceived slights and injuries caused by someone else. After a while I realised I had a really big lists of stuff (aughts) against other people (any). Bad plan BTW, keep your forgiveness lists short. “And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have aught against any, that your Father also who is in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25 ASV.

This is how it plays out:  let’s say you can’t stand your Uncle B. Maybe Uncle B was kind of not nice to be around. Every time you saw him as a kid you wanted to run away, or you hoped your parents would rescue you, but they were too busy socialising instead. Now, because you are an adult, when you see Uncle B. you can run for the hills, or you can even avoid family gatherings, because he is going to be there. Maybe you want to protect your kids. You don’t want them to feel like you did around him.

Here is what I have learnt. Forgiveness is harder to find for old wounds – you are going to need lots of God’s GRACE to do it. Perhaps you are also angry with your parents for not protecting you, a-n-d … you probably wouldn’t pass Uncle B. a fire extinguisher if he was on fire 🔥 … so that would be something else you need to work on. You are stuck with not only your need to forgive others, but your own past childish judgment.

Unless you make a start by forgiving your parents for their neglect, you can easily slip into assessing what they did. It is unfortunately easy to judge our parents retrospectively and vow that we will never do that stuff to our kids! It’s a no-brainer that you will also need to forgive Uncle Bob, BTW. And you are definitely going to need help with that!! Here’s my first point. We cannot do lasting spiritual transactions, without the Holy Spirit – He knows every single detail and how to get us free. We have to start with God’s Grace and guidance to navigate past any mine-fields. (Mind-fields.)

I can’t tell you exactly what to do because every situation needing forgiveness is different … but I urge you not to postpone or avoid forgiving someone as a way to defend yourself. Neither should you avoid repentance just because it seems the other person won’t change. We cannot hinge our transformation on someone else’s behaviour! That supposed knowledge of their sin is a snare sent to trip you up. Ask for His Grace, and keep right on asking while you continue to follow Jesus. Keep praying: “I want to do what You said Lord, and I need help.”

Unconfessed sin and a lack of repentance is a place for satan to stand in our lives. satan is a legalist, and he will use it against us – he will distract us with things that are of no consequence – while we are ignoring the thing that is tripping us up! Instead we need the Lord’s Grace and His way through. We cannot live the Christian life and experience victory if we don’t make the practice of obeying the bible a living breathing part of our lives – instead of just a using it as reference book.

Forgiving someone does not mean we are giving them permission to continue to abuse us. Rather forgiveness is a statement, an intentional declaration, that we know that God has a bigger plan. Romans 8:28 says: “And we know [with great confidence] that God [Who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

His plan and His purpose is to lovingly transform us. Sometimes He will rescue us, and sometimes He wants us to act in faith, like Jesus did. I have observed as I have followed Him and embraced His purposes, that His plans for my good blow my mind. I would never have understood those plans, if I hadn’t decided to die to the way I think, obey what He said, and let Him be Lord.

Here is my last thought for today – our God does not speak to us contrary to His word – His word is immutable – it will not change over time. Choosing to forgive, plus knowing the Word of God and choosing to obey it, is our best defence weapon. 👋🏻

P 2344 Let go and LET GOD.

Just a few thoughts regarding ‘letting go‘ and learning to get out of His way. When the body of Christ fights, we don’t fight like this world does. We fight on our knees. Plus we fight by the way we choose to live and die.“For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energised with divine power to effectively dismantle the defences behind which people hide.”2 Corinthians 10:4.

We don’t need to fight like this world does – we have miraculous weapons. Those Godly weapons will tear through the enemy’s schemes and lies like they were made of tissue paper. Our overriding theme/weapon is LOVE that just won’t quit. It renders hate into sad oblivion. God’s LOVE won’t quit on us! It’s never-ending – eternal!

Today I want to talk about another interesting verse in 2 Chronicles 20:17 “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’”There are times when our current battle belongs to the Lord. This kind of battle means we stand and wait to see what He will do. Oh, how I love to stand and wait and see what He will do next! It is so much fun! He never does anything the way I think He will, so that means I am able to glean more revelation about Who He is. I just love the surprise of it all! He loves to fight for us.

When I asked Him why this kind of battle is so important, He said: “It takes great faith in the face of overpowering adversity to DO NOTHING.” Well that made sense to me! I mean I‘m all for heavenly armies turning up and fighting on our behalf, but faith often touches the invisible and makes it visible. Faith is so much more powerful than what we can see. And faith that is motivated by love cannot be stopped. Even if you were to kill the person who is praying, love is eternal. So that kind of faith stays out there, waiting for the right opportunity to land.

Did you know that one of Jesus’ prayers has not been answered? … SO FAR! Here it is – “I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are One—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You.’  First of all, can you see that the answer to this prayer is participating in a sacrificial relationship? We cannot keep our own pet way of doing things and participate in Oneness. Big clue about Unity right there! We need the fellowship of the Spirit. When we all walk with HIM oneness follows and HE is not divided. We need to let go of the things we keep declaring to be right and allow Him to fight for us on our behalf.

We have never seen the Lord’s prayer for total unity answered so far. It is out there waiting for the right time, the right people, and the right place. None of those things are fixed so we could easily be those people. The reason we are not those people is because we tolerate selfishness, our own opinions and desires, over other people and their ideas and needs. We keep straining out gnats unity-wise and letting through camels.

Back to my original point. In some battles our job is to wait and wait, and wait, and … not take our faith back. Just like Jesus did. We do this in an undemanding way. We become steadfast because our eyes are fixed on the One Who cannot lie and He never changes. He’s faithful. If Jesus has had to wait 2000 + years to see one of His prayers answered, some of ours might take a while… He let the answer go, and He is waiting for His Father’s plan. No immediate answer to prayer does not mean we were not heard and He isn’t going to answer. HOLD ON!!

In the meantime, we get the opportunity to look carefully at our yet-to-be-answered prayer and with His help, discern whether it is for His kingdom or our comfort! Obviously things may need some adjustment, and sometimes – as it is in Jesus’ prayer for the Body of Christ’s unity – the answer doesn’t entirely rest on the pray-er. He doesn’t care who thinks what is right or wrong – He’s waiting for the fruit of the Spirit to show up. And for all of us to drop our prejudices and let them go.

There are times when Almighty God fights for us. He is not taking sides per se, it can simply mean one of us has stumbled into His purposes. AND … it can also mean that He is being just plain undeserved merciful. We need to start our prayers by letting go, and the Holy Spirit will show us what He wants us to do next. Remember when He fights for you, to watch … and be grateful. But get out of His way – OUR SOVEREIGN GOD IS COMING THROUGH. 👋🏻

P 2308 NOW faith is …

Using our faith should not be a hobby, or something we only use in emergencies, or a ‘get out of jail’ free card when things get ugly. Nor is it a legal way to boss God around to get what we want! If our faith is not used as a life-giving source, then when we really need it, we could find it has quietly slipped away … And then it can become hard to find it again, because circumstances have trodden it into the dirt.

Trouble rarely announces itself.  It sneaks up on us from unexpected places and it can totally pole-axe our hope in Him. Suddenly we are plunged into a miasma of emotional, physical and mental turmoil. Then come the ‘why’s.’ Why me? Why them? Why this place? Why has God forgotten us? The short answer is … He hasn’t. However! HE is not bound up by our desire for happiness … but sadly … WE ARE! The Lord has His own purposes.

Imagining Almighty God thinks like we do, is the biggest spiritual sink-hole … like … ever. It is our responsibility to actively learn and take notice of how He thinks…  by reading and rereading, and praying over His book. And then we need to go away and apply what we’ve read. Otherwise we end up making a god in our own image … and that made-up guy bears no resemblance whatsoever to our Heavenly Father!

The bible says: WE HAVE A PERMANENT FULL-TIME – DAY OR NIGHT HELPER. We need to cultivate our relationship with the Holy Spirit, in a dedicated deliberate fashion.

Under pressure, we haven’t got time to strap on our faith like a fancy six-shooter. Instead we need to stay prepared for the bad guy who is hanging around on the horizon. When our enemy eventually bursts through our door – guns blazing. Stuff happens! SUDDENLY. Those things are not just unexpected, they cast a dark shadow over our lives …the other guy is constantly jumping out of the shadows with a cannon full of lead … enough to sink our hope in God with both barrels.

HOWEVER … “… our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”’ Ephesians 6:12. The secret to ruining satan’s ploy is to use your best weapons – faith and humility. Always start with repentance. Fall on your face before the Lord and thank Him for saving you and delivering you and setting you free. Meanwhile, I don’t care who did or said what – be the first to repent.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”1 Corinthians 10:4. Saying what the bible says is not enough. Stand on it while the STUFF is happening and refuse to yield. Start using your hope that Jesus is Who He says He is and He did what He did for you. Our faith in His truthfulness and goodness is a mighty weapon.

Everything that happens to us is about learning to use our faith. At the same time, we still have the unfortunate option to lean on our own understanding in this world. That’s a human knowledge issue. BUT we need to use spiritual weapons to fight spiritual battles. Most of the time ordinary people think they are irrelevant they think that they don’t count, their contribution is not needed. This world does not authenticate others unless they are powerful, rich, handsome or clever. Sadly this world knows nothing of God’s ways!

“But God has selected [for His purpose] the foolish things of the world to shame the wise [revealing their ignorance], and God has selected [for His purpose] the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong [revealing their frailty].“ 1 Corinthians 1:27.

satan will use any ploy he can to keep us from standing UP in our God-given places. Hold onto tightly to what you know about the Lord. No matter what your circumstances look like. Remember that Jesus modelled what God thinks about you – it’s in the book. Go after understanding, insight and wisdom … and… continually learn to live out and use your faith. IT IS A SHIELD. Our faith is always needed – NOW! 👋🏻

P 2242 I belong to Jesus – satan you have no place in me anymore.

A lot of the time, we can be tricked into thinking we are failures at living this faith life. It is a huge mistake to underestimate the fact that we have an enemy, and he’s outrageously sneaky! he will hand you some awful thoughts and then blame you for thinking them. Treat satan’s lies like a tennis match – bat the lies back over the net to his side! Our biggest and best defence against his offence is to know what the bible says.

Jesus knew how to play this kind of tennis! Take a look at Luke 4:1-13 and watch Christ win. His enemy spoke and, if you look carefully, you will see that Jesus did not bat back the same ball that was served to Him. He picked up a scriptural bomb instead! Sometimes our best weapon is not our flesh! Even though He’s starving and tempted about food, the Lord speaks out the reality of God’s sovereignty. We need to do ourselves the favour of realising that a general knowledge of what it says in the book is not enough. We need to know this book the same way we know what colour our eyes are. These words are our weapons …and those weapons pull down strongholds, in our lives and the lives of others.

The next temptation is that the Lord Jesus is tempted to get everything He was sent to do, by taking a short-cut. My advice? Avoid short-cuts! Jesus refuses to enter into that conversation – He bats another bomb back about God’s sovereignty. It is as if He can see through the enemy’s temptation and He understands what is really being said. We all need that kind of wisdom – we need to know what we are really being tempted about! You know: every promise in His book is mine but some verses are more weighty than others. Ask the Lord for an ACE to bat back at the devil.

The last time, Christ is tempted to see if God really will protect Him, and He goes back, yet again – to Father God’s sovereignty. He refuses to be baited into a discussion with the devil about the superficial things in this life. And the Lord Jesus makes it perfectly clear that He knows why He is here … His times are in God’s hands. When we are tempted like this, we need to let go of what we think should happen and hand stuff over to the Lord. satan could not find one place inside Jesus that elicited a response. The Lord protected the ground His Father had given Him to stand on. And basically told the enemy: ‘I’m here for the Eternal Mighty God, not for My own personal wishes, comfort or notoriety.’

This is the secret to living in the righteousness of Christ. We must know the ground we are standing on. We are now here for HIM – our ambitions, no matter how Godly they seem to be, our agendas, even our needs are all secondary to our calling! Because of what Christ did we are now standing on higher ground with a higher purpose – we must live this new life according to those purposes.

Christ gave us His place in this world as an exchange – His life for ours. Now we voluntarily give up our lives for His … to the death! At this moment we are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus because of what He did for us. It was an exchange – His precious life for ours. We aren’t seated with Him to make this life here on earth comfy cosy – we are seated there, in a place of authority over the enemy and his lies, to get free ourselves, and to set others free.

satan could not tempt Christ away from His purpose on earth and we must not let the devil distract us away from our purpose either. We are not just here to have kids, a job, a house and raise a family … this is our time to stand on the Lord’s side! We are here to fight for the people who are not aware that they don’t have to play in that snake’s putrid, filthy arena anymore. Christ died to give us all another way – another place to stand. Beside Him. The disciples stood beside Jesus, and now we do that too – using our faith. It isn’t something we say or sing – it’s the WAY we live.

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8.“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12. “So that we would not be outwitted by satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.” 2 Corinthians 2:11. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7.

The battles we face every single day are not just about peace, or a happy life – they are about winning a war that started in heaven. Every single time we say NO! to satan, we enter that arena with Christ as our example and guide. He’s standing with us. We do not have to fight alone, we live in the knowledge that as His ambassadors, God will fight with us and for us. We need to stop playing this game the devil’s way… and start living Christ’s new way, day by day, by day. If we fall down we get up again – because we know, like Jesus did, OUR SIDE WON and we have a job to do. 👋🏻

P 2128 ‘God won’t mind.’

1 Corinthians 10:23&24 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.”… a-n-d … that’s a big fat full stop there!

When we give our life to the Lord, our lives are destined to immediately change. We do not have to live like everyone else anymore, because, now, the Holy Spirit lives IN us. Now, we need to practice obedience to the Lord’s ways and this is how we learn to LET His Presence guide us. Because of what He did for us, we live for the benefit of others, and we regard this life’s external trappings the same way the Lord Jesus Himself sees it. Most human beings see things as important. People are more important than anything else to the Lord, that’s why He slept outside and travelled long distances, to see, teach and help people.

However, now we are free that does not mean we can do whatever we like and forget the consequences. We’ve simply been set free from the captivity of sin and selfishness. BTW that’s what the book of Romans takes a really long time to say!  We are no longer sin’s captive because of the reality of His salvation in our lives. Now the Holy Spirit in us, teaches us which way to go … through circumstances, His quiet voice, and the bible. BUT HE WILL NOT MAKE US OBEY. ⬅ That bit right there is essential information.

And now here’s my hot tip:  Christians have spent a whole lotta years doing what we want, or pleasing someone else other than the Lord, so along the way, we’ve picked up a lot of nasty habits and thought patterns. That’s what transformation is all about, learning to say no to what probably seems OK or right to us, and yes to what He says about what He wants … IN THE BOOK.

Now we have the power within us to walk away from the things that will trip us up. However, the Holy Spirit will not take over – instead He helps us walk, as we ask Him for His help … step by step, forward into freedom. That’s where the revelation of freedom grows from a theory, into a new way to live. And we practice obedience. Father God will not make us do anything because real, internal transformation comes from volunteering for change.  I just want to say one little thing about this process from my own personal observation. Sometimes our needs can drive us along, and those needs can be very primal. So we can quite easily feel like we don’t have a choice, because whatever we are battling has been in charge for a very long time. Sometimes those things have become strongholds.

In our journey with other Christians, we are bound to meet people who fight this kind of battle the same way Joshua did at Jericho. They sing, pray, or speak to the wall that is holding them captive and it falls down. This is a good time to remember, that Joshua obeyed the Lord’s instructions … to the letter. And what the Israelites did was obey instructions from their leader. However, the people who praise God about the pre-existing walls in their lives, are often the exception. Many many MANY other times Joshua and the Israelites had to wade in and fight! Most of the stronghold battles I have fought in my life, have been about wading in and fighting spiritually.

“For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energised with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide. We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raise up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 TPT.

Fighting means I’ve learnt to stand on whatever bible verse the Lord gave me and insist that His word is bigger than my logic or feelings. I use that sword of the Spirit He gave me, whenever the temptation to doubt the Lord crops up and then I demand that the enemy leave me alone. The whole Garesene demonic incident holds another big clue about fighting the enemy and forcing him to leave. The enemy in the demoniac man negotiated with the Lord Jesus, because the demons did not want to leave the man – the Holy Spirit will personally give us strategies.

It is useful to know that some things we fight against are stubborn, but at the same time, they probably make us feel comfortable because we are familiar with them. We need to learn to insist, despite how we feel. Always remembering that our new AIM for Godliness and purity is far superior to staying in the same old pig pen, eating satan’s slops. The Lord has set a table before us in the presence of our enemies… it’s time to access that table and tell the enemy to take a hike!

We simply cannot afford to continue to make excuses for our own bad attitudes and behaviour. We have to start calling it sin and disobedience. And sometimes we need to hear that in our own ears, from out of our own mouth! I believe we cannot afford to allow anything in our hearts that Jesus died to set us free from. We also can’t comfort ourselves with the thought that God understands, and He won’t mind. Those thoughts will keep us in a COMA – out of touch with the real world around us, and pacified by platitudes that have no power. We all need our faith to work, and we learn how to use it by fighting the enemy within and without. 👋🏻

“Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of His love will become the very source and root of your life.” Ephesians 3:17
