P 3493 Let’s never forget the real benefit.

Hebrews 10:18-23. “Now, when sins have once been forever forgiven and forgotten, there is no need to offer more sacrifices to get rid of them. And so, dear brothers, now we may walk right into the very Holy of Holies, where God is, because of the blood of Jesus. This is the fresh, new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us by tearing the curtain—His human body—to let us into the holy Presence of God.

And since this great High Priest of ours rules over God’s household, let us go right in to God Himself, with true hearts fully trusting Him to receive us because we have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean and because our bodies have been washed with pure water. Now we can look forward to the salvation God has promised us. There is no longer any room for doubt, and we can tell others that salvation is ours, for there is no question that He will do what He says.”

I was born in one of the poorer areas of a capital city in Australia. Everyone I knew worked for a living. And then, when I was fourteen, so did I! I had no clue about God, except that I was taught that He wouldn’t love me if I did the wrong thing. Sadly it seemed like I was forever doing the wrong thing. Living with the threat of hell can kind of put a dint into whatever faith you have.

Up until I read the bible I had no idea that it said things like we just read in Hebrews 10. I had tried to read it many times but I got stuck in the begat section or the Old Testament stories … they only seemed to come out well if you chose the Lord’s side, but I had no idea how to get on God’s good side. I avoided it because I was positive He was never going to accept me. I had no clue that the Lord loved me, or knew my name — in fact I kind of hoped He didn’t — because I didn’t think we would get along all that well together! Mainly because He is holy and I am not. But nevertheless, Jesus still came after me, and that changed everything.

Even today when I read this: “…sins have once been forever forgiven and forgotten …” it blows my mind. I’ve been given some precious things in my life, but that one gift is beyond my wildest dreams. There are times when I wonder … why would He do that for someone like me? I just cannot comprehend the kind of perfect all-encompassing love that just won’t quit. Yet here it is – in His book. We are not forgiven because we deserve it, none of us do. We are forgiven because our Heavenly Father is beyond our imagination. He is generous, loving, kind and forgiving, and His Ways are perfect. There is no shadow, no turning away in Him. God Himself is pure love and light through and through.

As we keep on reading in Hebrews 10, we discover that not only did Jesus pay an incredible price to have all of us for His Bride, He paid that price so now we can have access to our Heavenly Father at any time. This means you and I don’t have to stand outside His door waiting to be told we can enter. We can throw open that door and run in and yell, “Dad, Dad, Dad, guess what happened to me!”

So when Jesus asks me to repent, why wouldn’t I? I’d want to hear Him even if He whispers! His love came after me and saved me from myself. Let’s think about the kind of people you would love to ask for dinner! Did you know in the bible it Exodus 24:9-11 it tells us that God Himself came to dinner?

“Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under His feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. But God did not raise His hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.”

I mean, how utterly brilliant is that, right?  Then, as if that wasn’t enough, then Jesus Himself did this:

“…that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-25

And there it is again. Almighty God and mankind, sitting down at a table and eating together, only this time, anyone can join in. Because the One sitting at the head of the table is the One Who paid the price for you and I to be able to come and eat and drink from it. Here’s something else to think about – SomeOne had to die to give us that privilege, and He did it gladly.

We need to learn how to be motivated and saturated in God’s love. Let’s be so soaked in it, that it runs out of us onto other people. I’m talking about His heavenly kind of love that just won’t quit on anyone. All the healing services, retreats and prayer in this world, are no substitute for the privilege of personally coming into His Presence and being received by Him. This is the point of the Gospel. It is not just so we can have access to heaven one day, or get into right house or school … or even have steak for dinner!

Jesus died so we can have ACCESS to our Heavenly Father – whenever we need to and want to. And we are guaranteed that Father God will never be disinterested, busy, or too distracted at any time, to allow us to come to see Him and fellowship with Him. NOT EVER.  We can have this, because He gave us the right to wash our filthy clothes in the blood of the Lamb, knowing that His blood sprinkled everywhere in our lives, makes us clean. Why would we ignore that benefit?

We must never ever forget the real glorious benefit of Calvary. God loves us … up close and personal, and we can love Him back the same way … freely, worshipfully and gratefully. Bye. 👋.

P3453 Impossible … right??

“For the perfect Light of Truth was coming into the world and shine upon everyone. He entered into the world He created, yet the world was unaware. He came to the people He created — to those who should have received Him, but they did not recognize Him. But those who embraced Him and took hold of His Name He gave authority to become the children of God!” John 1:9-12.

I’m pretty sure most people think that they would recognise Jesus if He turned up at their church, but the fact is – He came to His very OWN people, and THEY did not recognise Him. My question is this: why not? Here’s a theory …  they weren’t expecting Him to look like that! He came as an infant. Boy, that sure fooled them. The Israelites expected a King. Battle ready, with soldiers and appropriate equipment … but Jesus went right around what man expected and came as a helpless infant.

The next surprise was this… He didn’t come to kill off our earthly enemies, He came save them too! He came to represent us, by buying us back from the things that will drag us away from our Heavenly Father. Our Lord wants to woo us with His eternal love. Father God understands that is not good for man to be alone, so He is gathering together a Bride that will one day be worthy of His Son. The Holy Spirit’s doing this, one person at a time.

Jesus’ Bride’s beauty comes from her love for the Saviour. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to go through our lives and wash and iron away every single spot and wrinkle in them with the blood of Jesus, and the iron of adversity. It’s time to take what the Lord said seriously. There is no ‘magic solution’ to this world’s problems, there is only our hearty “yes” to what He asks of us. What if the stuff that is going on today is not about the Lord’s immediate return, but instead it is about this world groaning, waiting for the Sons of God to be made manifest?!

Jesus’ life story is the glorious fulfilment of God’s redemptive story, and He has gazumped satan at every turn. The devil did not suspect one thing, as God’s plan unfolded. Right now, in these times, we spend way much too much time looking at the obstacles and not enough time gazing on our Precious Bridegroom’s loving provision for us. God’s plans are always perfect. Just as Abraham sent His servant out to find and BUY Isaac a wife, the Lord has now sent His Precious Spirit to find the Bride He prepared before time began, for His Precious, dearly- loved Son. Jesus bought us with His own blood. And that includes you, and me. Impossible, right??

His kindness and love, are so far beyond what we can imagine, hope or dream. It seems millions of human beings have totally missed out what He did. And now it is up to us, to spread around what we’ve learned about God’s incredible love. The Holy Spirit does not want to leave one soul behind, so don’t be fooled and leave your part to others – this plan includes YOU! Faith fades away unless it is used.

When you live for a while, you start to realise how many times you’ve heard the same whispers in your head, about how hopeless you are, and why “talking to others” doesn’t mean you are to do it. The enemy rabbits on about how God won’t help you, because you aren’t worth it, and … that other guy’s repetitive junk gives the game away.  But our God does not do that. He has not ever played games with us. His plan is now clear and we are part of it.

Fan the love in your heart into a flame and actively remember everything Jesus has already done for us. Focus on that. The devil hates people using their faith. Just like He hates us giving thanks – he disappears pretty quickly when we do. Recognising Jesus in our times of difficulty makes us stronger, it irons out our inability to be self-controlled and patient. Just like the blood of Jesus washes away sin when it is allowed to penetrate even deeper than our minds, and manifest itself in our actions.

The Holy Spirit is hovering over us, waiting for our ‘yes’ so He can continually bathe us in the light of Christ’s never-ending love for His Bride. Sometimes the Lord’s greatest miracles happen in the middle of a raging storm. But at that moment, the Body of Christ often turns into Peter who said: “… Is that You Lord?”  It seems an impossible dream that God Himself should deeply care for each one of us, and need us to participate in His plan, even though we are broken. 🙌.

“But in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in Him.

For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity He put us in right standing with Himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where He always wanted us to be. And He did it by means of Jesus Christ.

God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in Him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public—to set the world in the clear with Himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins He had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in His rightness.” Romans 3.

It’s impossible! But true… Bye. 👋.

P3449 A life laid down.

“If we wait to feel like doing something for God, we will do nothing at all.” “Let your life be proof that Christ is real.” Mary SLESSOR. (1848-1915.) Born in Glasgow, and a missionary to Nigeria, she began her first mission at 27 years of age. She died of Malaria on the mission field.

In Nigeria, back then, it was a common practice to kill twins, because they were regarded as a curse. Mary took those discarded twins and raised them as her own children, and eventually the native people realised their way of thinking was an error. She did not waiver in her devotion to what she knew the truth was. Mary put what she believed into practice. BTW, she was also the first female magistrate in the area, plus she advocated women’s rights, and she settled tribal disputes. But few people would know her name, today.

I found Mary by reading the quote I’ve put at the top of this blog and I was so interested in her life, I did a bit of research. I wanted to use her as an example of what living for Jesus’ sake looks like. Here’s another quote about the cost of living this way from Wikipedia:.. “During this third mission to Calabar, Slessor received news that her mother and sister (her only living relatives) had died. She was overcome with loneliness, writing, “There is no one to write and tell my stories and nonsense to.” She had also found a sense of independence, writing, “Heaven is now nearer to me than Britain, and no one will worry about me if I go up country.” (No-one will miss me now.)

She seemed to me to be an excellent example of an ordinary Christian person who gave up her life to follow the Lord. She had had a pretty ghastly life before she became a missionary, yet she chose to obey Jesus’ call to be a witness. Obviously we won’t all end up on the mission field in a foreign land – but her singleness of purpose really challenged me. Mary became sick from Malaria early in her life in Nigeria, and had to go back to Scotland to recover, then she returned to the mission field again. This wrestling match happened many times in her forty years on the mission field.

You know, I found what Mary did so powerful, especially in the light of this world’s penchant for self-indulgence. She is probably rarely mentioned except in Presbyterian literature. She didn’t go to Africa for fame – she went to be obedient. The little blurbs I read did not say she was a passionate person, actually she comes across as quite an ordinary, quiet heroine, who simply did what the Lord asked her to do. She bloomed where she was planted. … Boy did she!!

She wrote this in her diary: “I am trembling for the meetings,” she once wrote. “But surely God will help me. It is His own cause. I am suffering tortures of fear, and yet why is it that I cannot rest in Him? If He sends me work, surely He will help me deliver His message and do it for His glory. He never failed me before. If He be glorified that is all, whether I be considered able or not.” This piece was not written in Nigeria where she confronted drunken tribesmen with spears and shield, time and time again — this was written right before she went to speak at a meeting in her homeland, Scotland!

She said this about her calling: “God has been good to me, letting me serve Him in this humble way,” … ”I cannot thank Him enough for the honour He conferred upon me when He sent me to the Dark Continent.” By now I was crying as I am reading, because her devotion to Jesus and His sacrifice was so precious. She gave up everything to serve our King. Some of my info came from an article MARY AND THE BEAN STALK c.2005 by John W. Cowart. From the book,  People Whose Faith Got Them Into Trouble (IVP, 1990). I love that title!!  If you have time to read, she makes great reading. “One lone woman and Christ against an army” of angry natives, whose lives were changed by Jesus.

Mary helped me remember that obedience is better than sacrifice. So many great men and women have served Jesus in far off places, and history has forgotten all about them. But they gave all they had, so that others might live forever with Him. That kind of makes our reluctance to talk to strangers about Jesus seem pretty pitiful eh? Especially the sad things we hide behind – I’m too old, too young, too fat, too thin, too scared, too noisy, too quiet, too poor, too rich, too something-or-other … So I can’t do it!

I distinctly remember Moses saying something like this …  ”Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” Exodus 4:10. Thank God, after a bit of wrangling, Moses did it anyway! And Jonah saying: “O LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.”  Jonah 4:2. Jonah knew that God is good, and it annoyed him because people he didn’t like were saved. Human beings are weird!

Who said witnessing is an optional extra? I think a life laid down is a beautiful thing. Bye. 👋. “But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!” Hebrews 10:39 TPT.

P 3425 THINK Bigger!

At 4.00am I was instantly awake and stuff started downloading into my heart. Then the Holy Spirit said to me: “Tell My people they need to LET ME be bigger.” Then He gave me some examples from His Word to stir our courage.

When Jesus said in Mark 4:39 : “Peace be still” to the ocean, as it tried to drown the disciples … that ocean heard the same VOICE that said: “ Let there be light! “ … so it obeyed. Everything that lived inside the sea came from the Lord speaking, including the sea itself. This world knows His voice. I think there’s a lesson for us in there … if even the SEA is obedient to Almighty God, then what excuse do we have?

We need to think bigger than getting a car park when we need one! This world is in turmoil. The people around us need the peace that passes all understanding and we have it … it is ours. The Lord gave it to us. Give it away! You can always take it back if people don’t appreciate it. That’s in the book too!

When Moses held up his staff at the Red Sea — the same staff that God had transformed from a lump of wood into a snake before his eyes — the bible says: the sea SAW it. “The sea saw it, and fled! “ Then a mighty east wind blew, and the ocean parted. Moses’ staff was nothing, just a bit of hard wood. A shepherd’s staff, used to whack wolves and bears on the head. It was ordinary. Please listen carefully to this bit .. Almighty God took what Moses already had and made it powerful. Ya might want to selah that for a minute or ten.

After Moses told the sea to part, and all the Israelites were safe, Moses held that staff up again and two walls of water came crashing down on Pharaoh and his army. They drowned. But don’t feel sorry for them, God gave the Egyptians ten plagues to warn them about what was coming. It wasn’t the staff that controlled the sea, and it wasn’t Moses’ power that did it either. When the man of God obeyed what God told him to do, that staff in his hand became a symbol of God’s authority. Now we have His authority too.

When we act upon His Word, day by day as He leads us, it is as if God Himself is standing there with us, backing up our obedience with His power. Let’s look at another scripture in Luke 10:20: “But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” Jesus was explaining to the disciples their true priorities. Our priority is not power – but power comes from our relationship and the Lord’s recognition of an individual. The people who do things with God, STAND UP!

When His disciples went out and raised the dead, healed the sick, and delivered people from demons … they got very excited. “Jesus called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.… “ Do you see that? JESUS gave them HIS authority. This is why He says: ‘Don’t rejoice about that stuff, rejoice that your names are in My book of life.’  Jesus knows your Name and He has written it down in His book. it doesn’t matter two hoop-de-doos what that other guy knows.

However, when the Holy Spirit arrived at Pentecost the disciples were supernaturally given their own authority, by God’s Spirit. Holy Fire hit them! That’s purifying fire. I don’t care if you like tongues, or you don’t … we should just get over ourselves. Tongues is a way to refresh our weary souls when we get overwhelmed. But don’t chase that, or any other thing — chase after being filled, and staying filled with the Holy Spirit. He will tell us where to go and what to do.

Another time some dumb-bunnies ran about using the Name of Jesus, and they threw Paul’s name around too. But the demon said in Acts 19:15: “Jesus I know and Paul I know … BUT WHO ARE YOU?’ Demons recognise the real voice of authority because that Voice threw them out of heaven! Those seven sons of Sceva had no authority at all to throw out the devil. BUT WE DO, because we are His kids and our names are in His book.

Seek His kingdom, first. Chase after loving Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength! Ask yourself, are you happy with what you have, spiritually? If not, then remember Jesus promised to give us His idea of an abundant life. That doesn’t mean fancy houses, planes, jewellery, cars, or mountains of money — remember how He lived — that’s the yardstick. An abundant life is filled to the top with the love of God. It  has more than enough to give away, because He is a more than enough God!

One day, long ago, Almighty God humbled Himself and came here and became a man. He made Himself just like us. Then He humbled Himself even further and became a helpless infant! He understands what human beings face. When Jesus delivered that demonic man, stuck in the cemetary of Gederah, the demons in the pigs heard the same Voice that cast them out of heaven. Boy, did they leave! As we live our lives in His Presence, we will begin to understand what we’ve been given. We have the same authority Christ did.

No wonder Jesus said ‘speak to the mountain and it will be moved’ …He made that mountain – of course it will obey Him. Now, the Lord lives in us. So, unless we work for a mining firm and we intend to whimsically move the local mountains around like pieces on a chessboard — we can ask for whatever we need. Otherwise we don’t have the authority of a banana!

Please don’t settle for an encounter with God – capture His heart and walk with Him! Think bigger. Start thinking about what your life will be like with Jesus showing you daily what to do next … Bye 👋. “… but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God].” Daniel 11:32b.

P 3401 Be a happy doorman.

“If the Spirit is the source of our life, we must also allow the Spirit to direct every aspect of our lives. So may we never be arrogant, or look down on another, for each of us is an original. We must forsake all jealousy that diminishes the value of others.” Galatians 5:25-26 TPT. Taking the lowest seat without calling attention to what you’ve done can only be accomplished in Holy Spirit’s stealth mode. It may not happen  easily. It takes self-control and courage, to decide to be quiet, especially when someone has just provoked you, or they’ve said something that you feel is blatantly untrue.

However, we can shoot ourselves in the foot and lose track of the Holy Spirit’s point, if we choose to defend ourselves and blast away!  By the way, an angry belligerent person probably needs some space … give them some. You can’t persuade someone like that to stop being angry. Remember, “a soft answer turns away wrath.” Proverbs 15:1. The Holy Spirit whispers scriptures like these to me when I am under pressure. Pay attention to what He says and He will help you too. Instead, say something sweet to poor old grumpy – they probably got out of the wrong side of the bed. Don’t be guided by how you feel in the moment.

When you go to see someone who quite obviously doesn’t like you, or maybe they don’t value the Lord’s truth – make sure you go with the Holy Spirit, under His orders. Don’t go into the lion’s den without the Holy Spirit! He knows the way to shut that lion’s mouth, without punching it in the face and irritating it further. He can turn a lion into a giant, friendly pussy-cat.

We can only truly hear the Lord and watch Him order our steps when we are prepared to do whatever He says – the way He says to do it. Many people want to hear the Holy Spirit, but a lot of the time they pick and choose whether they will obey Him or not. Maybe they have a lot of ‘buts’ or doubts. Choosing to obey when it doesn’t suit us, is beautifully illustrated by what happened to Jonah.

It did not suit that prophet to see the people of Ninevah saved. But God told this man to do something for Him. Let’s remember that Jonah was the Lord’s servant – like we are – we cannot pick and choose when it comes to obedience … Not unless you wanna end up in the belly of a big fish for a long weekend, anyway!! Thinking we can’t do it, does not mean it is OK to say no!

Sometimes in order to escape we say unscriptural things like: ’God understands…He knows I am shy.’ Moses tried that tack remember? It didn’t work for him either. The fact remains, when God says; “Jump!”… We need to say: “How high?”  But what if it is not God speaking, and I do it? I could look like a goose! YES! …  … you probably will. And even that is good for us. Because we are told to humble ourselves before the Lord.

“But the tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even raise his eyes toward heaven, but was striking his chest [in humility and repentance], saying, ‘God, be merciful and gracious to me, the [especially wicked] sinner [that I am]!” Luke 18:13. Jesus liked this guy. He used him as an example of humility. “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” V14.

Sometimes when we hear stuff like that, we immediately think about someone else we know who could do with taking down a peg or nine. The thing is we can’t afford to read God’s book for someone else. This is not a proxy book – the bible is a personal instruction book. Because we truly want to follow Jesus then we need to do what He would do. Jesus was never arrogant about the things He knew. He’s God. Almighty God is His DAD … He had a lot He could go on about!

Meantime our task is to hear what God says, then DO. Obedience is a fantastic key. It is right up there with being saved and forgiving others. But we can’t learn to love others if we are holding a demand list against them! So let’s leave jealousy, suspicion, and unforgiveness behind us. Keep a short list of aughts against any. Actually… take your little list out into the garden and burn it.  Those things are a rock we can sometimes tie about our ankles that will drown us. Automatically forgive, then deal with your anger and pray about how to make things right again.

Paul said this, and I love it …  “Follow my example, AS I follow the example of Christ.” So if someone you are following is not following Jesus … then stop following them! Duh! Love them, forgive them, but don’t do what they do and don’t look down on them either. Next time it could be your turn to be the empty-headed numpty. We all need direction, correction, humility, and an appreciation for others in this world. Let’s learn to be content with that. If we want to keep the oil of the Spirit flowing in our lives, then we must learn to follow His instructions. HE WROTE IT DOWN.

Lastly, listen to this wise Psalmist who knew what was important and what wasn’t: …“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10. Great place to say goodbye. 👋

P 3325 Make His book your life.

“And now we are brothers and sisters in God’s family because of the blood of Jesus, and He welcomes us to come into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm—boldly and without hesitation. For He has dedicated a new, life-giving way for us to approach God. For just as the veil was torn in two, Jesus’ body was torn open to give us free and fresh access to Him! we come closer to God and approach Him with an open heart, fully convinced that nothing will keep us at a distance from Him. For our hearts have been sprinkled with blood to remove impurity, and we have been freed from an accusing conscience. Now we are clean, unstained, and presentable to God inside and out!” Hebrews 10:19-20, 22 TPT.

I had to read the above scripture several times to let the meaning and significance of it sink in. Did you ever read words on a page, and you can repeat what it says, but the meaning of it kind of slowly slides by you? Me too. That’s why I read verses like this over and over. There was so much meat in this sandwich I couldn’t quite comprehend it! Then I cried. Because what is said is so incredible it is almost too good to comprehend. Sometimes modern translations are very useful for blowing your mind. 🤯

It seems incredible that we are encouraged to think such thoughts. “Just as the veil was torn in two so was His body torn open to give us free and fresh access to Him.”  Well, there’s me gone, crying again!  Every time I read something like this I see things that I didn’t see before. What a gift we have been given, it was so incredibly costly. Yet I know the Lord says this to each one of us: “You were worth it.”

The moment Jesus took His final breath, all kinds of stuff happened all over Jerusalem. People who were long dead were seen walking around. Rocks fractured, the earth shook. We really need to take note of this, because God Himself, in the form of a man, chose to die for all of us that day. Now we can freely come to Him whenever we want, for whatever we need. Our Father’s arms are always open to receive us.

Before that day, the law decided who was guilty and who was not. But on that day the heavy curtain in the temple that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy place – tore in two, from top to bottom. So after that day, God said: “Mankind no longer has to live with sin and guilt – I have taken it away.” Jesus became that snake on a pole, like the one Moses raised to save many from death, and their carelessness and sin.  When we look to Him and trust Him to do this for us, we can have confidence. When we ask Him to save us, He does it.

The Lord Jesus was figuratively torn apart, so you and I could enter the Holy of Holies unashamed, free from fear, and full of joy to meet with our Heavenly Father for ourselves. We don’t need an intermediary. I don’t have to go to a special church, or cathedral, or holy place to find God – any time I cry out, He listens to me. Because I gave my heart to Jesus, now He lives in me. And here’s the kicker, it seems I can easily miss what I have been given, by simply refusing to believe Him, by letting my sin, eclipse and block out His love for me.

Any form of accusation is not from the Lord. Jesus died and took it all to the cross. And inadequacy is not ours anymore either, because when He died He gave us His righteousness before Almighty God, for free. When He gave us His standing with His Father, He deliberately took hold of OUR standing in this world and wore it. It killed Him. Now, the people who hate us can’t touch us anymore. The God of the Universe and beyond, has chosen to save us, heal our hearts and protect us. We get to be spectators, not targets. The real question for us is this – is Jesus Christ truthful?

Let’s pretend I have given you a gift and it is something you really wanted. So I bring it to your house, at great personal cost. But then, you put it carefully on a coffee table as you tell me that it is beautiful. You say: ‘Thank you, how kind of you, how good you are to give this gift to me’ … and never ever open it.  Instead it just sits there, with pretty paper around it, and a bow on top!  Father God gave mankind a gift, but it’s no blooming good on our coffee tables or bookshelves! We have to tear His gift open daily, and take the time to examine what’s in it, prayerfully and carefully.

The bible is our Father’s love and revelation in a book. It’s His words to us that are important – it doesn’t matter much what the thing looks like. If all we do is take the bible and say: “Isn’t that pretty, I always wanted one of these” or maybe — “see here is where He promises to always love me, isn’t that nice?” We’ve missed the point! We have to devour His gift, bit by bit, slowly, chewing on it, letting His book become part of who we are. His book has the power to change our lives and our perspective, forever.

If you need to repent, read the book! If you want to praise and worship Him, read the book! If you want to know who you are NOW — read the book! Then go out and behave like it is true because that’s what faith does. Bye. 👋

P 3310 The power of Pausing.

There is a word in the bible that means … “stop and think on this.” It appears often in the Psalms — SELAH. We translate that word into ‘pause.’ So we need to do more than agree with what it says, we need to stop and think about it. Selah means ‘I will stop and think about how these words I have just read can impact my life, my concerns, my hopes.’  Pausing and waiting for Him allows us to breathe, instead of anxiously holding our breath.

Pausing is like hitting the refresh button on a computer. It means we’ve been captured by something and we want to stop long enough to go back over it and see what is really being said. Pausing adds clarity.  We can find His Presence far more easily when we stop ‘think-worrying,’ and choose to pause. Then pray. I call it pausing, but Father God calls it by many names. In James 1:12 it says it like this: “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.”  This is a person who stands still, when everything around him is whirling about. He is pausing to steady himself.

Steadfastness is the ability to believe God is good even when every circumstance around you says differently. We deliberately choose to hold fast to Him. It means you stop trying to solve the unsolvable and simply look at the One Who is so much bigger than our problem or questions. It’s taking a big breath and taking the time to lay these things aside, then we choose to take hold of Him and His Word, and wait. We want to cultivate the ability to understand that despite how formidable something seems, God has it. Meanwhile we patiently wait to see what He will do next!

“I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.”  Psalm 130:5. Waiting means I don’t react, so eventually I choose to act as He prescribes. I believe what He said in the bible and so I put my whole thought processes into meditating on that. And I stop ruminating on stuff.  My hope is always in Who He is, not just getting an answer. The secret to being blessed in waiting is not merely waiting til the trial is over — it’s waiting to hear what He says about it in the time you have chosen to pause. That is done deliberately. Pausing is letting go and letting Him do what He wants.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12. These things are unattainable if we do not take the time to pause. Our un-renewed minds can easily run into panic without real, tangible, God-given reassurance. Our assurance is in the bible! Pausing helps us to learn His Ways. We learn first-hand how He handles things. How unhurried He is in a world that is often rushing here and there. Whatever is flattening our well-being slides away in the light of His Word. Standing still, waiting, pausing, remaining steadfast – all these things can help us to unravel the difficulties that land on us. Then we can see them without a whole lot of mind-busyness. Pausing releases and relieves stress.

Moses literally paused.  He was going about his daily routine and then he saw the burning bush — and the bible says this: “And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.”  Exodus 3:3. He stopped what he was doing long enough to do more than give the bush a cursory glance. He actually physically engaged his body by using his feet to find out what was happening. He immediately encountered Almighty God when he took the time to pause and wonder.

Pausing shows the Lord we value Him and His input. It engages His attention. It says: “I am not going to rush past this moment, I will give it to You. I am curious to hear what you want to say to me Lord.” It has a parallel truth present in the Song of Songs. The singer says to His beloved: “You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.” The shepherd has been captivated, He stands still long enough to notice not just her, but her presence. He refuses to move past his beloved’s loveliness quickly. Pausing is about deliberately paying attention to something that captures our hearts.

It may not be about something unusual, it might just be we have seen whatever it is many times before, but this time it grabbed us and other things faded into the background. Then all we can see is Him, His wishes, His Way. Time stops pushing at us because, it becomes irrelevant. Like Moses we turn aside to ‘see.’ Pausing is about those moments, when the busyness of this world fades into the background and we are lost in what we’ve seen, or read, or experienced. Pausing, waiting on Him, adds depth where we might simply live in the shallows.

Pausing is about ceasing from any activity temporarily, whilst listening to and waiting for the Lord. Personally, I think if we practice learning to pause over Godly things, we will learn to live in His rest far more easily. Pausing is like drinking in the Lord’s peace, on purpose. There is such value in simply stopping and choosing to look at Him, to see what He wants to say. I recommend it. Bye. 👋

P 3262 What language does God speak?

This could blow your mind, it blew mine. Just out of the blue this morning the Lord said to me: ”What language do I speak?” WOW! … I mean I wasn’t even praying or anything! We know that the Lord speaks every language of man but does HE also have a language?… I decided to go with what Ezekiel wisely said instead:“Only YOU know Lord.” Then He reminded me that He can speak every language on the planet and all the languages of angels. Plus the unutterable sighs and groaning of the human heart. WOW … again! 🤯 In fact, we don’t even have to speak, because the Lord already knows. (Psalm 139:4)

Over the years, I’ve learnt that when the Holy Spirit asks me a question, it’s time to be quiet and listen, He’s about to teach me something I don’t know. So I put a sock in it and listened. This is what He told me:“I speak faith,  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control..” Colour me flabbergasted. It took me ages to even comprehend what that means – I think of those things as actions.

First of all, it rocked my world to find out that these things we call spiritual gifts or traits, are languages! Then I realised that many people call ‘love’ a language. I know that Jesus is our perfect example of these things we call fruit… but are these things also God’s language? Off we go! In Psalm 139:6 it says:“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”  I’m so-o going to need His help!

I kept on praying about it, and then I read this:“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, the Word was God.” John 1:1. Our Lord Jesus, is His Father’s language in human form. 🤯 Jesus Christ is God’s living LANGUAGE. The more I prayed over this, with the Holy Spirit helping me, the more I started to remember other scriptures. God also speaks faith! He spoke this world into being when there was nothing – that’s faith! The Holy Spirit went off and did what Almighty God said, and that too was faith!!  Faith is a language – our universe and beyond were founded on His Words, and then Holy Spirit turned the language into an action.

Adam and Eve blew it when they disobeyed and ate the fruit. They stopped speaking the languages God had given them, when the devil slithered in and taught them to speak doubt! A questioning perversion of the language of faith. Faith has a way to speak, and it originates in God, and freely obeys Him. Here’s an interesting thought for free: Moses lifted up his staff over the Red sea and Psalm 114:3 says: “The sea SAW it, and fled…”  The SEA saw WHAT? The staff of authority in Moses’ hand! There are many bigger ways to see and understand the things of God than we can imagine – sadly we’ve restricted ourselves to just MAN’s knowledge.

My hubby had this thought: “Jesus spoke PEACE to the sea when it was turbulent.” That rough sea obeyed the Lord immediately He spoke faith to it. When the Lord said “Peace be still,” He was speaking one of His Father’s languages. He told the disciples once in John 12:49 “For I have never spoken on My own initiative or authority, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment regarding what to say and what to speak.”

Let’s look at another one of the things that we call fruit, but God uses them as one of His languages. I picked patience. When someone is speaking to a little child and the little one doesn’t understand them, we will often say that the person is speaking patiently to the child. Patience has a tone, It is another kind of language. That language can speak to human beings as well as animals etc. and get the same response. It relaxes and soothes. God’s languages are spoken for the other person’s well-being.

The kingdom of God down here on this earth has a voice. These kingdom languages help us to serve, know and honour the Lord, as we learn to speak them. He uses us to speak His language to others. We dare not waste our time speaking ‘man’ – we need to learn to speak His language everywhere we go – by believing and listening to what He says and acting on it. That’s how His Word begins to transform our language – when His Word becomes our language! We will learn how He speaks, when we stop predicting what we want to hear from the Lord, and take the time to wait for Him to speak to us.

Like I said at the top of the page, the Holy Spirit shared this with me, but let’s be totally clear, my brain is not smart enough to come up with these thoughts! We need the Holy Spirit to teach us our Father’s native tongue … so we can be pure in our speech. Purity of speech isn’t about throwing out swear words, or criticism, or hate – it’s about learning to speak LOVE. The bible says: “That which is not faith is sin.”  We often go for avoiding the negative – instead of participating in the positive.

We could be outwardly speaking well of others — but in our hearts, which are open to Him at all times, what do we really think? What are we projecting toward other people – His languages of faith, hope and love? Or are we speaking from the hurt of the past …and head knowledge… which can be a dead language. What language does our Father speak? – I think it is love. And you can be sure He speaks your language too. Bye. 👋

P 3236 We too can be dazzled by the WRONG side of Jordan.

This is what I noticed the other day, when I read Numbers 32:1-22. When the Israelites came to the Jordan river, two tribes chose to stay on the east side of that river. They decided the land suited them there. However, Moses insisted that their fighting men had to come with the rest of the larger group, to defeat the people on the west side, and help them get rid of those enemies who lived on the other side of Jordan, in the Promised Land .

Let’s be clear, the land these two tribes wanted was on the east side of the Jordan river to the Promised Land. These tribes wanted to stay there because they could settle down, spread out and make new lives. They preferred the land outside the Promised Land, it was more convenient, and invited prosperity.

“The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said, “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon— the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. If we have found favour in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”

Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, “Should your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here? Why do you discourage the Israelites from crossing over into the land the Lord has given them? This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to look over the land. After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them. The Lord’s anger was aroused that day and He swore this oath: ‘Because they have not followed Me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob— not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’

The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in His sight was gone.“And here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the Lord even more angry with Israel. If you turn away from following Him, He will again leave all this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”

Then they came up to him and said, “We would like to build pens here for our livestock and cities for our women and children. But we will arm ourselves for battle and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land. We will not return to our homes until each of the Israelites has received their inheritance. We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.”

Then Moses said to them, “If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle and if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven His enemies out before Him—then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the Lord.”

This section of scripture hit me between the eyes. It showed me that we too, can camp on the wrong side of the river – where the work has already been done, and we know we will be comfortable because it suits our needs. But we don’t appear to give two figs about what the Lord has told us He has given us. He gave us a Promised Land filled with everything the Lord Jesus did for us. We need to be the grateful people who want to live in the Promised land and are more than willing to fight for it. These tribes, Reuben and Gad, didn’t care about the others, because they had already got what they wanted, space for their flocks etc.

Sadly, I think this is also true of the Body of Christ today. Many of us have settled on the wrong side of Jordan –  because where we are, and what we have, suits us. I’m talking about our faith. So we stay home and do nothing. We don’t want to lose our sense of safety. There are those in this world who need our help, but few want to be part of the solution, because they might lose something! We haven’t got a dispute about land, etc., per se, instead, our dispute is about comfort and where we want to settle down and be comfortable. Plus what we choose to believe.

These two tribes wanted to settle for something God had not given them, but Moses made it very clear — they would have to fight alongside their braver brethren or lose what they had chosen, because God Himself would fight against them. The battle for real faith, living faith, the kind of faith that loves and lives a life like Jesus did, is still in front of us. He won for us! But we are not doing our part! It seems we like to go to places where we hear stories of other people’s victories, but then we want to return to the safety of the place we’ve called our own, where ‘our kind of faith’ suits us. We cannot afford to decide we know what our inheritance is – God has decided that.

Let’s learn to fight our enemy together, so Christ can have the whole reward of His suffering. The battle belongs to the Lord, but – we cannot, or dare not abstain, simply because we think that fighting will ruin what we have already decided is right for ‘our lives.’ There is so much more on the other side of Jordan, so let’s not settle for what we think is comfort, or even be blinded by the immediate,  let’s press on for personal victories!  Bye 👋

P 3170 Gratitude opens new doors.

Paul spent a whole Chapter on thanking and acknowledging people in Romans 16 – it seems it was extremely important to him. These people, whose names I struggle to pronounce! … are warmly acknowledged and greeted. You don’t find too many kids called Apelles, Epenetus or Ampliatus in birthday books today! Back then those names were normal.

This godly man was an apostle and a missionary, and he travelled from one country to the next, founding churches. But he was not alone. Many people helped him fulfil this God-appointed mission. and he did not forget them. It seems to me, that we need to think about our new life with Jesus, and remember the people who have helped us to get this far. They have given up their valuable time on our behalf, to study and be available, to teach and guide us, and to pray for us,  to rejoice or weep with us. Let’s just take a moment to thank God for them, and heap blessings on their heads, simply  because they chose to give up their time to walk with us while we have been learning. Grateful people remember those who have sacrificed for them. Paul did!

I think time should be recorded as a most valuable commodity, along with gold, silver, various minerals and oil! Time is not a commodity in heaven, the way it is down here. Eternity, is by nature, timeless, and heaven is a place that we barely understand. That’s why it is so important to regularly listen to Jesus, because He kept on talking about God’s kingdom and what it looks like so we can recognise it.

The kingdom of God is not just ‘up there,’ its destination is also ‘down here’ where we are. As we lovingly share and care for others we need to know what it looks like. This man was so enthralled by Jesus, he was personally taught by Him. The Holy Spirit took all the carefully stored up, but under-developed fruit from his Old Testament knowledge, and blew Paul’s mind! The Spirit of God developed what this man already knew into mature, juicy, ripe, edible fruit. Who knows what He will do IN us if we gratefully allow Him to do it?

Paul’s gratitude for Christ’s own intervention in his life was paramount in everything he said and did. Gratitude is always a wonderful attitude to have – wherever it is cultivated. Paul was in jail on and off for five to six years, and the Lord used that time to download and develop great deep Kingdom truths into this man’s heart. The Holy Spirit gave Him incredible revelations, and the words to explain them! We cannot know what God will do with the things that seem terrible to us at the time. My advice is to always pray for deliverance and healing, but at the same time, pray for understanding IN your circumstances. God Himself will show us the many things we’ve overlooked in our pain, so we can continually be grateful to Him.

When I look at someone like the Apostle Paul, I begin to understand that what I know is incredibly limited. Knowing about stuff in heaven, is not like knowing ordinary everyday stuff down here. Our whole beings are expanded and transformed by even just one encounter with the Lord Jesus …whether we feel something or not. I think we have barely begun to understand our own potential in Christ. It never ceases to amaze me that the Holy Spirit can just drop a word, or a phrase into my spirit, and suddenly I’ve gone from reading with a tiny little torch, into a room flooded with all kinds of light! I’m so thankful we have such a glorious Helper, Teacher, Guide, Comforter, Advocate.

In the past many Christian men and women have thoughtfully and carefully studied God’s words over and over again with a motivation to extract deeper, clearer meanings for all of us. God bless those translators for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Body of Christ! But! One moment of personal inspiration and revelation, can save us years of living puzzled and disappointed lives. WHY DESCRIBE THE WIND WHEN YOU CAN CATCH HIM?

We dearly need translators and expounders of His word, but we also desperately need His personal insight in our own lives, day by day — so we can walk with Him unashamed, peaceful and content. Even in the middle of all kinds of trouble. We cannot afford to allow someone else go up the mountain of God, like Moses once did, and miss out on the kind of inner expansion that only comes from being with God Himself! 70 elders once sat, and broke bread and ate with Almighty God present at the table. Even that thought is mind-blowing!

I believe the deepest revelations can come from the hardest situations. Let’s pray even more during difficult times, not just for healing and deliverance, but to thank Him for walking us through each and every one of them. Every test or trial contains His wisdom, plus the opportunity to build our own faith. It would be a shame to live our lives simply trying to escape from trouble, when there is so much to be learnt about Him in the middle of it!

To sum up, one way to bless and encourage others in their walk is to be thankful for the way they have helped you and say so! Gratitude in any and all circumstances, blesses God Himself and it opens new doors. Read Luke 17:11-19, you will see how important gratitude is to Jesus. Bye 👋
