P 2125 The Lord’s wisdom is pure gold.

Every time we individually read the bible, we need to read it with the thought in the back of our minds that we are looking for something fresh, even though perhaps we have already read what we are reading, many many times before. Reading like this means we are looking for personal, individual, fresh revelation. Pure gold from heaven. My best advice when you read the bible is to come to it with fresh eyes, each time, and … don’t rush the process.

Meanwhile, the biggest danger in Christian teaching, is that we can choose one man’s interpretation, or one school of thought, as the way we want to think about this verse or that principle  … now and  forevermore Amen! That’s a dumb idea! 🙄 Development and change are vital – we cannot settle, we are pioneers, not settlers. Settling for reading this bible, without digging for gold, is the very thing that lost track of the Holy Spirit speaking to us, individually, in the first place. I know that human beings like routine, I know it personally! But succumbing to routine whilst reading the book, precludes the expansion of His life within us.

If we want to know what the Lord thinks, or what He wants to say to us, today, then we need to approach the bible with an open heart.  We simply must allow Him to renew and expand our meditations and thoughts in ways that show us more about HIM. Having one POV about any verse is limiting, and our God’s wisdom is many-sided. I would go so far as to say that His wisdom is limit-less and incomprehensible to us without the Holy Spirit’s help! We also cannot limit Him and His ways to our own experiences …  So, unless we continually allow our view to be enlarged, and stop thinking there is only one way for us to go, we will end up limiting His wisdom for our lives, and as a consequence, we will limit our spiritual growth.

Over the years I’ve met many people who have quite literally stopped following the Lord Himself, and start following Brother ‘I’ve-got-proof-I-am-right’, or Sister ‘I’ll-just-get-the-food-ready-for-you-shall-I?’ 😳 And yes, I see the irony whilst I am writing a blog!  However, it is not good to continually eat pre-digested food all the time. Let me just say that when we have to hunt down food, by searching the bible, that is actually good for us. At the very least it exercises your faith and helps it stretch and grow. Plus it is ridiculous to expect one individual, apart from JESUS, to know everything. You can always talk to a mature Christian to see if what you thought you heard or read, was fresh from fantasy land!

The Lord, the God of heaven and earth, wants to talk to us, personally. He wants to counsel us, as individuals, with His eye upon us.(Psalm 32:8) We will gain so much from His personal attention. That’s when we stop just being a lemming, and start running our own race. At the same time our gifts will start to manifest themselves. Not to mention that the Lord wants to be that intimate with each one us!

One of the biggest truths about the modern church is that we do not know what we do not know. We just think we do! Maybe because we read somewhere in a Christian book that someone acted on what He said, and saw a miracle. Miracles are not stamps of approval – they are signs of the Lord’s Presence and His incredible loving generosity! The entire Universe shifts when we stop making ourselves, our opinions, our church, and our theology the centre of everything.

We also need to start embracing collective wisdom – especially from those who have gone before us. There is an attitude today that says, everything that went before us was wrong! Now, apparently … God has has given this generation a greater revelation. Phooey! The Lord builds “layer upon layer, precept upon precept, and line upon line.’ (Isaiah 28:10) Maybe we have not asked Him to show us how Brother-I’ve-gone-home-to-be-with-the-Lord’s-revelation can benefit us! We will never get above the first floor if we keep yanking out what was already there when we arrived in His kingdom!

Our God’s ways are so incredibly wiser and more powerful than we are letting Him be – He knows exactly what sort of revelation to release to us peanuts-for-brains down here, and when to do it! However, only the Holy Spirit Himself knows how to take those “apples of gold” God Himself gives us, and He knows how to put those apples into a “setting of silver.” (Proverbs 25:11) There is a verse in Isaiah (54:2) that talks about ‘enlarging the boundaries of our tents.’ I think that this verse needs to be taken more seriously. God is not talking about making our houses – temporary or not … bigger.  He is talking about the way we view this life. In our efforts to get things right, we have forgotten that Father God already has a MAN Who got everything right – JESUS CHRIST.

The Lord’s word is always multi faceted, and pure gold from heaven, but He has only one side. HIS! And if we want to survive this life with our faith intact, growing and expanding in the knowledge of His ways, we better start chasing what His side looks like. I’m starting to say: “I dunno” a lot more than I used to, nowadays. How about you? 👋🏻

P 2124 Ambassadors of peace.

Living aware of His Presence, creates a peace zone … all by itself. At our house we do our best to protect that zone. Hubby and I have experienced what it is like to live that way, and today I want to talk about the results of that zone, so you can be encouraged that this also happens in YOUR life too. I’ve included some thoughts and tips about welcoming and hosting His Presence and peace in your own house. Learning to trust Him, no matter what is happening in our lives, is one of the best secrets to keeping and maintaining peace. We all need peace, the bible tells us it is our umpire!  His peace, or the lack of it, shows us where we need to back up and rethink our attitudes. Along with Hope, PEACE is one of our most powerful weapons in our daily lives.

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” Romans 12:18 “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Hebrews 12:14 says that thought like this: ”Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

It is unfortunately, way too easy to blame our lack of peace on someone else. Our failure to take personal responsibility can open up already difficult situations into even worse misunderstandings. We need to do everything in our power to treat honesty about our own limitations and motivations, as a priority. Today in our society, it is almost an unspoken agreement that there are good guys and bad guys .. and WE, of course, are not the bad guys! Here’s red hot flash for you, we can all be the bad guys to someone else. So we need to make peace our personal treasure.

Nothing can be gained when we make a mutual problem someone else’s problem. I exhort everyone reading this blog to remember that blame is deadly to both parties. The bible says that we are to be ministers of reconciliation, not judgment. Speaking for myself, I not only apologise to others, whether I think it is necessary or not, I also actively ask people I trust: “Do I do this?” We must remember, that feedback from others is really important, sometimes it gets very hard to see around the LOG in your own eye! 😊 So I look at me, first. This means I need to actively revise my own behaviour, and stand back and look at it from a distance. Sin can trip us up, but we have no reason to hide that junk from ourselves, or others – anymore. We have a Saviour! Glory!! 🙌

Actively or inadvertently hiding from reality is tempting but it is also a dead end street. Rather, exposing ourselves to the truth, opens windows and doors into His kingdom. And welcoming His kingdom means welcoming His peace. I have also found that this sort of open, honest attitude, takes time – maybe that is why many people avoid it.😂 In another version of the above verse – Hebrews 12:14 says: “Pursue peace …” I take that to mean – run after it! When, or even if, we cannot hear the Lord clearly – a lack of real peace can often be at the bottom of the matter. We need to value His peace more than we want to make our point or win an argument – or justify behaviour we don’t want to change – no matter how right we seem to be.

Jesus’ peace is not this world’s idea of peace. We can live in HIS peace in the middle of total chaos, because we know Who holds the future! Plus peace is an inside job. Here are some things hubby and I have noticed that show that there are signs of His peace in and over our lives. When people talk to us, they don’t want to stop – strangers tell us their life-stories. That’s a distinct hallmark of Christ within anyone – it is most definitely not our stunning personalities!.🤣 People are attracted to Him. Anyone who does not live in peace actually values it when they experience it, even if they don’t know what it is.

At our house, we are often quite naturally silly and lighthearted – hubby is like that far more than I am – he tells the most woeful dad jokes! 🙄 Laughter is another valuable tool in our fight against losing our peace. It is good to learn to laugh at yourself. I take myself way too seriously at times, and it can border on trying to control the atmosphere. Laughter removes pressure. I think it helps other people relax too, and they feel free to be themselves, because the need to pretend is taken away. Remember, peace is fragile, we must watch over it.

A number of visitors have commented on His peace in our house as they come through our front door. Like I said before, we know it isn’t us! It has to be the Presence of Jesus, because He is the Prince of peace and He is welcome in our home. We value His presence more than we value our rights and opinions. We intentionally make room for Him. Plus when any of us value His peace, which goes right round our minds and soothes our hearts, we can become ambassadors of peace for others. 2 Corinthians 5:20. 👋🏻

P 2123 The road to maturity.

Maturity in God happens as we choose to do the things we do not want to do, for His sake. Like loving people, and reaching out to strangers …  by helping them practically, and sharing God’s loving kindness with them. That is the best way I know to stretch our faith and start down the road toward maturity. The church has become so stuck on evangelising people – it has made those people who don’t serve God for a living, feel inadequate!  Evangelists are one of the gifts that have been given to the Body of Christ. If you have that gift you know you have it because telling people they need to be saved comes naturally to you. However, a witness simply tells others what they know about Him and what they have seen for themselves.

John 4:28-30: “Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a Man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward Him…” 38-42 ”…Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to Him, they urged Him to stay with them, and He stayed two days.  And because of His words many more became believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.”

This Samaritan woman didn’t give a theological discourse to her village, she just told her neighbours what she heard Him say about her, and her life! I believe that we step into our destiny by actively sharing with others, and that puts us on the road to becoming a mature Christian. But this life is distracting, and so we concentrate on what has happened around us, or to us – instead of intentionally focussing on God’s purpose in our lives. That’s when we miss the blessings He has for us in the middle of the trials and troubles.

God is treating us like His very own precious children. He allows things to come into our lives so we can choose to follow Him through them. Our minute by minute choices to do what He said, or not, count. The trouble with choices is we can make them too quickly, and give in to our emotions – sometimes for convenience sake – without even giving our responses to the difficulties thought. Maturity makes hard choices.

In the bible, the people who love God and serve Him, are either, in trouble, about to get out of trouble or about to get into more trouble. Read the Old Testament! Or read the NEW! Trouble is a sign we are going the right way!! Paul had himself a whole heap of trouble, he was in and out of jail unable to travel sometimes, but he chose to see and learn God’s ways, rather than focus on the liabilities. Meanwhile how could Paul ever know that those difficulties would benefit US? He was just looking after the churches he founded back then. He had no idea his letters about Christ and how to grow in God, would become a book that would reach the entire world! We cannot always understand the purposes and plans of God – that’s why it is called faith.

Sometimes we miss opportunities to choose to mature because of our immediate needs. This life is full of distractions. Things that need to be done instantly. But when we choose to trust Him above our own understanding that is when we let our faith loose. A transaction occurs inside our spirits and we stand up a little straighter and feel bolder – we actually start owning who we really are by making hard choices. Read Romans 8:31-39. ‘Nothing’ … means even our feelings can’t separate us from Him, unless we give in to them. We belong to Him now, and even though we can be faith-LESS He is always faith-FUL.  You can stake your life on Him.

Philippians 2:13 says: “For it is [not your strength, but it is] God Who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energising, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfil your purpose] for His good pleasure.”

The Holy Spirit wants us to win. He believes in us. He longs to help us. I exhort us all to step out of the boat of safety onto the waters of change. He will not let us drown. Dust off your testimony about how the Lord Jesus changed your life and tell Him He can call on you whenever He likes. Don’t worry about time – I’ve watched Him stretch my own time, personally. Challenge yourself to find one person today who needs to hear that they are beautiful in Christ’s eyes, they matter to Him, and He loves them dearly. “Shed the love of God in your heart ABROAD …BY FAITH …”👋🏻

P 2122 Thoughts on the New Year.

Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 TPT

I love belonging to Jesus! My life has meaning because He brought His meaning into it. Because of the bible I know that if I had a difficult day struggling with my flesh, I can repent, repair things with Him and others and … start again tomorrow.  However, I praise God that “His mercies are new every single morning!!” because I definitely need that. Read all about it in Lamentations 3:22-23; Psalm 30:2l; and 2 Corinthians 8:1-9.

The secret to being a joy-filled Christian is to live our lives continually being enfolded into Him. Isn’t that a precious thought? I remind myself daily, that His forgiving Love utterly depends on Who He is and what Jesus did. I am loved because He is lovely – not necessarily because I am all that loveable.😂 The Holy Spirit puts His arms around each one of us and He is holding each one of us up, in prayer. He freely gives us His help, and He reminds us of who we really are, by God’s good Grace. Our task is to stay in His hidden place of refreshing and comfort, focussing on HIM and not the humdrum stuff that rushes headlong at us. We may sometimes feel overwhelmed but we do not have to be overcome by this life.

Today I want to talk about another way to read the bible – we can read it to be informed, and transformed, but aside from that because of this book we can also see and know our King. It is good to read the bible as a love letter from Him to us. Part of being enfolded by Him is being aware of and comforted by His Loving Grace. Many people at this time of the year often make New Year resolutions hoping to change bad habits etc. – well here are a few things to think on today that we all need to be reminded of regularly.  Here are some thoughts I had:

“I will remember, by choice, every single day just how much my Heavenly Father loves me, because of what Jesus chose to do for me. His love has no dark side or purpose in it. It is more constant than the sun in the sky, deeper than the Marianna trench, higher than the heavens, and it does not vary one single bit from one second to the next. People may get sick of me, leave me, hate me, or neglect me – but the Holy Spirit is always there for me, helping me, teaching me, filling me, guiding me, and caring for me.”

“I am reminding myself, on purpose, that because God’s love toward me is infinite – His love toward YOU is infinite too. So if I feel I cannot love you then I need to remember that my love for you is proportionate to the amount of love I gratefully receive from Him. I cannot truly love you until I understand how wide, how deep and how truly undeserved and unconditional His love is for me.”

“I am going to stop living with the expectation that everyone else needs to get everything right all the time. We all make mistakes. And with God’s help, I want to stop blaming other people for my own responses and reactions to this life. EVERYBODY has difficulties. So, I set my face to stop demanding that other people understand me before I approve of them. I will no longer excuse myself from doing the very things I get mad at them for.  I’ll remind myself that I cannot say I live in forgiveness, if I won’t own and confess my faults and stop making excuses for what I’ve done. I am not perfect, but God is not finished with me yet. However, He is not finished with you, either.”

I believe we need to take the time as often as we can, to actively reinforce the things that our Heavenly Father has said and done, as well as the things He has asked us to do. This world encroaches upon us from every side, and the world view we face daily is selfish, and lacking any peace, kindness and true spirituality. If I am not aware of my own faults I could easily turn into a petty, mean-minded individual who is just looking for a fight or disagreement.

My mission in this life should be to make other people so comfortable, they love to be around me because of His Presence in my everyday life. Christians need to be like honey to a bee. Sweet, appealing, life-giving and satisfying – helping the people around us, by inadvertently creating hunger and thirst in others for the reality of God Himself. 👋🏻

P 2121 Theology verses LIFE. Choose life.

Sometimes I think that too much theology, together with the theological terms that are used in our churches can actually shoot us in the foot. We get to know the words but we don’t fully understand how to participate in the action that comes with those words. We are here on this earth to produce fruit that lasts. Jesus once cursed a fig tree because it had no fruit on it and He was hungry. If there was something wrong with FIG trees why didn’t He curse them ALL? That particular fig tree was an illustration, the Lord Jesus didn’t hate fig trees and it wasn’t just a theological POV. Maybe He was showing the disciples they needed to expect fruitfulness, and to get rid of anything that didn’t bear fruit.

Even when spiritual things are spoken to us for our own good, we can get lost in the Christian-ese words that come at us. Plus we can feel so overwhelmed by the concept of being something we know we aren’t, that we aren’t motivated to translate what we hear into our every day lives. Instead, we can simply file it under ‘things I am meant to know and remember.’ When we file those concepts away, we miss the real lesson we are here to learn. We are meant to apply what we hear under the Holy Spirit’s practical personal guidance.

Take the scripture: “I can do all things through Him Who gives me strength.“ (Philippians 4:5.) If we are not careful we can read this and nod our heads and agree. “Yes, yes, I can do all things …that’s a good scripture. ” We think YES – and do no!  I’m definitely not against agreeing with what it says … however, the next time you are annoyed at someone or scared or tempted – take that scripture and hold onto it until that feeling has left you and then go on to do the opposite of how you feel. Our life isn’t about who is right and who is wrong anymore, it is not a competition. We don’t care who wins so long as Jesus gets the glory!

Instead of letting someone else have an earful when you are angry… STOP.  Breathe. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. Suddenly the verse: “a soft answer turns away wrath” pops into your head. So say something conciliatory, and start by – “agreeing with your adversary quickly” That sounds a bit like this: ‘Yes yes, you are right I can see that it looks like I was… lah lah lah. I’M SO SORRY!” My point is now we have changed our focus to what the Holy Spirit whispered into our hearts. Ask Him to help you … something like… ‘How do I obey You?’  I’ve stopped arguments by saying: “Oh I hurt you! I am so sorry.” Life is not about who is right or who is wrong, because the Holy Spirit is always right! Obedience does not require feelings.

Have you ever asked yourself how Judas managed to walk around with Jesus for three and a half years and yet this man was not changed. He remained a thief. So why was he not transformed? We know that he lived day by day beside Jesus. I think it was because change is a choice, it is a learning frame of mindYet Judas did miracles, and he saw Christ do miracles, but somehow the fact that he was in the Presence of God Himself, did not influence this man. His desire to go the other way defeated him until it was too late. We need to pay attention to our opportunities.

The bible needs to become flesh inside US by acting on it. Our destiny is to be walking illustrations of His book in action. Jesus showed us how to live that way, He showed us a human being could live, work, play, and walk amongst other people and still live free of sin. Unfortunately, repeatedly saying NO to God-given opportunities can harden our hearts. Judas and a whole lot of other people in the book show us what happens when we keep resisting the Holy Spirit and insisting on our own way because it is more comfortable. Did you know that anybody can twist theology to make room for their POV and their own comfort? Jonah did!

The flesh is not just stuff like pornography and lying etc. the flesh is anything that is not motivated by the Spirit of the living God for His purposes, and other people’s good. Christians need to stop accepting the terminology without understanding the application. The purpose of redemption is transformation. And totally transformed people living for Him, are the best witnesses this world can ever see. The precious Holy Spirit is incredibly generous with His love, time and help, and He loves it when we share with others no matter how badly we do it! A witness is not a witness if they say nothing, they are merely a bystander. We were not saved to fit in.

Today, It is time to ask ourselves the hard questions. Like: How much of what I know is in my head but it is not being demonstrated through my actions? Yeah I know – bring that up! 😳 👋🏻

P 2120 We need to protect our sense of expectation….

…so ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep it!  I’ve learnt, first-hand, that I can do nothing without Him.. (John15:5b)

Isaiah 40:1-10 “Comfort, yes, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and tell her that her sad days are gone. Her sins are pardoned, and I have punished her in full for all her sins.”

Listen! I hear the voice of someone shouting, “Make a road for the Lord through the wilderness; make Him a straight, smooth road through the desert. Fill the valleys; level the hills; straighten out the crooked paths, and smooth off the rough spots in the road. The glory of the Lord will be seen by all mankind together.” The Lord has spoken—it shall be.

The voice says, “Shout!” “What shall I shout?” I asked.“Shout that man is like the grass that dies away, and all His beauty fades like dying flowers. The grass withers, the flower fades beneath the breath of God. And so it is with fragile man. The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God shall stand forever.”

O crier of good news, shout to Jerusalem from the mountaintops! Shout louder—don’t be afraid—tell the cities of Judah, “Your God is coming!” Yes, the Lord God is coming with mighty power; He will rule with awesome strength. See, His reward is with Him, to each as he has done.”

Some of you lovely people out there in blog-land have been praying about difficult stuff in your lives for so long – the result is that now you try not to think about those things anymore. I hear ya! Me too! But  there are verses like this in Isaiah. The Lord said to tell you: HE’S COMING… Just like He said to His disciples at the tomb of Lazarus – ‘this DELAY is to glorify God.’  The question is not: “is He coming?’  It is … “will we wait for Him?”

Sometimes things have to get to the place that human beings call impossible. We are incredibly creative, inventive beings … after all, we are made in His image! We figure heaps of stuff out – check out the Tower of Babel sometime. The Lord does not postpone His arrival on the scene of our lives to frustrate us or lead us into despair – He is just doing something else, much bigger than we can imagine.

Here’s another scripture that comforts me a lot. Let me set the scene … in Revelation 5 there is an incredibly important scroll mentioned – an angel asks: ‘who is worthy enough to open this scroll?’ And, get this – no-one was! They couldn’t find one worthy person, and there are angels, elders etc. etc. flat on their faces worshipping Almighty God. Here we are IN HEAVEN, and nobody can open that scroll because even in that incredible group nobody was found worthy. They start to weep, because everybody wants to know what is in the scroll. We are not told how long they waited because time is irrelevant in eternity. They are all just waiting… waiting … waiting…Does that sound familiar??

Here it is – Revelation 5:5 “Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals. Yay! It’s our precious Jesus!!  👏 ONLY HE can!  Now, there are also angels at that scene with harps, and golden bowls full of the prayers of the saints. OUR PRAYERS ARE NOT LOST just because they have not been answered, yet. They simply have not reached the tipping point … but they will. When I pray and there is no visible answer – I just keep giving the person, subject, situation, back to the only One Who was found worthy – in Heaven – to open that scroll. Jesus Christ is a PERSON. A Man.  He is totally God and man in one glorious, holy, redemptive Person!

Actually, one of the last things He did before He died, was to make sure His Mum was taken care of – how utterly human is that? We can trust this Man, He understands human beings – He IS one. Like Isaiah says, in chapter 40, our sins are pardoned. The sad days are gone because God has already heard us. At the same time, while I’m waiting … personally, I go into the road-making business – I look for weeds, rocks and stones that might be in the way of making the path straight for Jesus and I ask the Holy Spirit to keep my expectations in Him high.

We are the pathway that Jesus walks on to reach those people we care about. The more we let Him change us – the clearer that road becomes. Don’t postpone change because it looks impossible – there is an Answer right now, in heaven. And we also have the Answer with US right here on earth. Jesus Christ, Son of Man and Son of God – His Spirit is with us. 👋🏻

P 2119 What comes out when the pressure comes on?

Human beings can be quite clever at hiding stuff, from themselves … as well as others.  Like Jesus showed us in John 7:37-39 “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” … If we want rivers of His water flowing in our lives … then  we have to stop building dams to protect ourselves, or diverting His streams of life away from the purposes of God into our own purposes. This water goes through us to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. LET IT FLOW.

I realised a number of years ago that I could be ‘nice’ and fool people, even the people around me … but Almighty God sees my heart, and I can’t fool HIM.  Now, despite the fact that I can lie to myself and get away with pretending I am a nice person … who I really am comes out when I am squeezed tightly by life’s pressures and difficulties. HOWEVER, I am here to say today, do not give up on yourself, and definitely do not give up on Him! “But…”you wail, “I pray all the time about my bad temper, sarcastic tongue, petty stinky attitudes  plus rebellion, pomposity, resentment and bitterness I feel inside, and God hasn’t done anything about it SO… perhaps it doesn’t bother Him!” (Yeah right, telling yourself that won’t change anything.)

You can tell yourself that, but you and I have read the book, and we all can see instantly in there that’s not what He is aiming at! I now understand that nothing happens to me, or around me by accident. The Lord allows circumstances into my life so I can acknowledge my sin, then repent, and repair things and ask for His help to change. THEN!!! …Then I gird up my loins and deliberately start taking faith steps. I’ve pray this – “help help “ all the time. Why? “The Lord is close to all who CALL on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth. He fills the desires of those who fear Him: He hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalm 145:18) My advice is we need to be truthful and admit our faults.

I’ve learnt that there is no use blaming other people for your response. Your response is your responsibility. Saying nothing is better than letting stinky dangerous stuff fly out of your mouth. “But I mean what I am saying at the time!” Yeah, we all do, but what is said in anger cannot be easily repaired. The thing is, someone has  threatened us, and we use our words to push back at them. At that moment we are deliberately telling that other person something they don’t need to know about themselves. Their bad attitude, if they even have one, is their responsibility – not ours. Our aim is to spread love, and our opinion about someone else’s behaviour or thoughts or actions isn’t something they need to hear from us. BTW, if you poke the bear serves you right if it bites your head off!

Our words are meant to HEAL not hurt. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29. (The dictionary says: LET is a verb (used with object), let, let·ting. to allow or permit:)  “But I have a foul temper!!” Hmmm.. Thank you so much for telling me that, I will do do my best to avoid YOU! 🤣 We do not have to feed our weaknesses by indulging them. Instead, we can learn to actively transform who we are with His help. The Lord Jesus has done all the work at Calvary, now we get to live out what He did IN FAITH. The only power satan has over us is the power we GIVE him. Faith, however, is the substance of things hoped for …” We give our faith substance by acting on what we believe, in spite of our feelings or circumstances.

So when my mouth wants to vomit bad stuff over someone else, I take a great big breath and pray ‘help help.’ And if doing that doesn’t stop the flow, then I excuse myself and go be by myself until the Lord and I have a strategy – and that strategy never includes hurting the other person. The Power of God can only flow through us to the extent that we let it work ON us. Ya might want to read that sentence again, I know I need too!  Stop looking at what the other person said, and look at what you are saying. Our speech needs to build up and help others, not shatter them.

His strength is made perfect in our weaknesses.”  When I am weakest then I am strong in Him. We get strong in His Might … using our faith. Faith has substance, we learn that when we use it.  We don’t get zapped there, we WALK there deliberately, on purpose, using our faith. Jesus did it. He went up a mountain and prayed, then He spoke things that were going to help His disciples to rely upon the Holy Spirit when He came. We need to stop reading the bible for benefits and start reading it for our ways to become His ways. What comes out when the pressure comes on is what is already IN there. Change and transformation require co-operation, if we want His rivers of living water flowing through our lives.

Our mouth is not a DRAIN for our emotions. 👋🏻

P 2118 It is not us. IT IS HIM!

In the past we have ‘assessed’ our ability to ‘do spiritual stuff’ by results. Some people seemed better empowered to pray for the sick etc. than we were. This meant that the largest part of the Body of Christ became inactive. I believe that we ALL need to live our lives daily filled with the Holy Spirit and His power.1 Corinthians 2:5, Paul is speaking:  ”… I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

The power of God comes from Him, we totally rely upon Him and what Jesus did on the cross. So there is no point in looking in our pockets to see if we have it, because the bible clearly says it’s IN HIM!  I think the Body of Christ avoids some things because we think we have no power. But the power belongs to the Holy Spirit make Him your new BFF. Jesus breathed on His disciples and told them to receive the Holy Spirit, and then they went out and prayed for the sick and they got well. They told demons to get lost and they went! A-n-d they also raised the dead. By implication they could have quieted a raging sea. Jesus asked them: “Where is YOUR faith?”

We can rabbit on endlessly about whether we need to speak in tongues – or not; or wear a hat in church – or not;  or women should be silent – or not. Blah blah blah. But the real truth is that even if we try to begin to love one another WE FAIL. We have this sum backwards. We are ‘trying to be’ something, instead of learning how to live in His Presence. He PROMISED to be with us. I think we gave up because it is easier to claim scriptures than it is to live them out.

Listen to this:How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, FOR GOD WAS WITH HIM.” Acts 16:38. Where did Jesus get His power from? God. It wasn’t Christ’s power – it was the Spirit of God’s Power. Jesus just copied what He saw His Father doing…  Christ received the Spirit, and now we are learning to receive Him and make Him welcome. So we value His Presence more than our needs, opinions and lifestyles

That means our needs, opinions and lifestyles are gunna change because HE HAS DIFFERENT LIVING CONDITIONS THAN WE DO. To walk with Him we need to live mindful of what He likes. The challenge is to live our lives like Christ did – He lived in perfect love and loved and cared for OTHERS. Jesus became human and did all that for us. His power flowing through me will not make me arrogant, or controlling, it makes me humble. The more I see Him touch people when I inadequately pray, the more I give glory to God.

Here’s a real life testimony for ya to show you it isn’t US, we simple need to learn to co-operate with the Holy Spirit and do what He is doing. Years ago, a couple next door to us had a baby boy. The little child started to fit with a high fever. The end result was he turned blue and stopped breathing.  The mother came running into our house screaming at me: “My baby is dead” and she handed him to me. He looked dead believe me. I didn’t pray.  I shook the baby hard and said: “Don’t you dare die on me!” The kid took a breath, opened his eyes and started screaming, probably because he didn’t know me from a bean pole. I handed him back to his mother screeching his dear little head off! Was he really dead? I dunno! He ain’t DEAD now! Here’s the kicker … his mother gave him to me because she thought I was a nurse. (Hubby is the nurse BTW.)

Here is another one:  We travel on the road for Jesus as often as we can, and we give away bibles etc. etc. because you can start great conversations that way. Hubby went into a woodcraft shop in Tasmania once, and he came out a few minutes later VERY frustrated. The lady behind the counter was incredibly rude and angry with him and he wanted to leave that place … pronto. I’m the praying bunny in the car, and she wasn’t rude to me, so I asked him to go back and give her one of my bookmarks. Hubby did not want to go but he went back in anyway.  He was gone much longer this time and he came back out beaming!! The lady in the shop gave her life to the Lord on the spot – she burst into tears and he was able to share Jesus with her. Yay, Holy Spirit – the wind was blowing that day!

Live the way Jesus did – do whatever you see our Heavenly Father doing. It’s not you it’s Christ IN you!. Bye 👋🏻

P 2117 Don’t judge a book by it’s cover – because bibles have boring covers!

Not everything that the Lord Jesus is doing LOOKS good to us immediately. However, as we wait for Him to bring beauty out of ashes, and believe in His goodness – no matter how things look in this world – WE will be changed. And at the same time we will begin to comprehend His ways. Why does He do things like that? I think it is because the bible says: Taste and see that the Lord is good.”  Tasting involves engagement and action, not just mental assent to some so-called expert. This life is about progressively becoming more and more acquainted with Him, how He thinks, the Way He does things – Who He is.

There are times when we don’t want to take risks and steps of faith into our new life in Christ – because we are trying to prevent disappointment. Maybe we have experienced that feeling a number of times before … we prayed for something to change…and so far … it hasn’t. Perhaps we prayed for a loved one to be healed … and they are still sick… or they died. Me too! I am definitely not smart enough to have an answer to that!  It would be a mistake to think that just because we serve Him – we know all the answers! He’s still God and breathtakingly incomprehensible at times. 🙌 That’s why we need the bible… even though it looks boring … it isn’t. This book comes to us with a way better “help desk” than any internet site. THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Unfortunately our personal historical circumstances and memories can easily lead to us to metaphorically hold our breath, watching the Lord to see if this time will be different from the other times that we were disappointed! That’s when we know that we are praying prayers that are loaded with agendas! Perhaps we are disappointed because we have already formed an idea of how things will look, or how they should go. Our Heavenly Father is not a fast food joint … a place where you put in your order and wait impatiently for the result. The way to be blessed by learning about Him, as well as prosper our faith, is to find out what He IS doing and join in with that and hold tight when it seems He has gone ‘off script.’ Faith is like a rubber band it needs to be stretched.

I am pretty sure that we could go to a hundred of His preachers, and ask them what He is doing in these days, and each one of them will tell us that He wants to mature His bride. BTW that isn’t just because Jesus only wants a mature bride! It’s because Jesus is the perfect Bridegroom! His desire is toward us, and He is protecting us from what comes next. Hard things are going to happen no matter what we believe, but it is in the nature of maturity to stick close to His purposes. These mature followers will survive – scarred and sometimes battle-weary. I know a whole lotta people who dun fell off our twig already because they were misinformed about Who He is, and they were told He would give them whatever they want.. Even Jesus met someone like that! (Matthew 19:21 and Luke 18:22. BTW this incident is so important to the Lord – it is in the book twice.) We must remember the parable of the sower – stuff happens and it will choke the life out of those seeds of faith in Christ.

It is far better to ask Him into everything, than to live a reactionary life – bouncing about from one bad thing to another. Ask Him: “How would You like me to pray about this?” He knows how to pray better than we do. Right now, here on earth, the Holy Spirit is praying for us, perfectly. And up in heaven, in the throne room, Jesus is praying for us perfectly too. We simply need to know what He thinks. The safest place is a positional one – we get that by maintaining unity with others, prayer, and reading the very ordinary looking  book. Then doing what it says! (Well, you knew I’d say that didn’t you? 😆) We can cry, pout, and stamp our feet to try to get what we want, but He absolutely has a far better plan for all of us. You and I know that those plans He has are: …plans to give us a hope and a future.  However, He won’t rubber stamp His signature on what we think is a good idea or what suits us. Human logic and rationality is flawed by selfishness. We can make anything sound OK – but our God works for the good of ALL MANKIND.

Ezekiel gave the perfect response to God once when He was asked a question by the Lord in Ezekiel 37:1-10 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, You alone know.” Then He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life…“ The really cool bit about this scripture is Ezekiel got to see this whole thing happen through his spiritual eyes. HE SAW US – and millions like us. WE are those dry bones. Laying around dusty, dry, separately. No life in us! But in my heart I can hear a rattling and a shaking …

Ezekiel prophesied back then, that we would live. That those dry dead bones would come together, and muscles and sinews would cover the bones, and organs and flesh would appear in and on them – and God’s OWN life would come into His army. Father God is going to honour that man’s prayer.  I may be gone by then, but I believe with all my heart we are at this stage in history … when maturity, reverence, and holiness have become more important than getting what we want. And the boring book becomes our road map, and mission statement.Bye. 👋🏻

P 2116 But because YOU say so, Lord.

There have been many times in my life when I prayed about what was going on in favour of my own convenience and I didn’t talk to Him about what He thought first. On occasion, I have actually asked the Lord to find me a carpark, please? Is my face red (?)  😡 At other times, I just wanted some bad thing that was happening to go away far more than I cared about what His thoughts on the matter were. Yikes. 😳

The bible was not given to us simply to prove our own personal denominational POV or make our lives more comfy-cosy. It was given to us for instruction, correction, and reproof. (2 Timothy 3:16-17.) This book is supposed to train us up in the way we should go, so when we are old we won’t depart from it. So it is not just a book of bonus vouchers or add-on free benefits. We were saved and now we will live with Him foreverthat is all the benefit we need. And all that is His GRACE – freely given.

The sad thing is, there is a whole generation of older folks out there that have been taught that this, the benefit bit, is exactly how they are supposed to appreciate and use His book. For us that comes under the heading of “…forget not all His benefits.” There is way more in His book than the God-given astronomically expensive benefits. What the Father gave us for free cost Him His Son’s life, and I think we all need more reverence. I exhort you to ask Him for it. Personally, I think the bible is a book about relationships – Him and us, and us and others.

Reverence is kind of an out-of-date word in our society. However, reverence is not simply tacking a ‘please and thank you’ onto the end of our prayers. Reverence is about the way we regard Him and obey Him. True reverence is a mirror into our own hearts and souls. When I looked into His mirror lately, I was shocked  … ‘how on earth did I end up thinking like that again?’ I realised I had started feeling like a terrible failure because I’ve been praying about some stuff for years and maybe that meant that my faith was not good, or I wasn’t praying right, or I had some sin I hadn’t confessed yet. I was looking for results, and not looking at the Saviour.

I realised by thinking like that I was making our God too small. The God of the bible is incredible! The thing I forgot is that I have a precious Father Who is not only bigger in His heart than my repetitive mistakes, He is also more than capable of correcting me. That means I do not have to be in charge all by myself anymore. My part in what He did for me is to love Him and others, AND obey Him, and live in forgiveness and reconciliation – not just in word, but in deed.

Today, I would like to share a personal testimony about the fact that God actually does know everything. I was a Catholic when I was much younger and Catholics use special beads to help them pray. Whatever! I threw all of mine away under the Lord’s guidance when I was first born again. I am not implying anything about anyone who uses  beads like this, I am simply repeating what happened to ME. One day when I was in my late 20’s I was reading the bible, and talking to the Lord about stuff in my life and I asked Him if there was anything He didn’t like that I was doing, or books or anything else that He didn’t want me to have.

His answer was immediate and very clear. “You still have some of those beads in one of your handbags and I asked you to get rid of them.” Well! … I got on my little high-horse and explained that: ‘I did not! I had thrown all of mine away! He insisted. I argued. In the end I took each handbag I had, and opened it up and lifted it up towards heaven … so He could see that there was nothing of the sort in any of MY bags! But He kept quietly insisting…

As I continued to try to prove the Lord wrong, (bad move BTW! – ya think?), I felt something lumpy in one of my soft vinyl bags. Between the lining and the outside vinyl of this bag was a rosary. I had no idea how it got there, you couldn’t see it, at all, it was hidden under the lining. I didn’t even remember having it. I repented instantly and threw it in the bin. Then, the Lord said this to me: “If you WILL hear Me for correction – you will hear Me for direction.”  I learnt that day that it is essential that we learn to let the Holy Spirit counsel us with His eye upon us (Psalm 32:8) – Because we can often think we are right when we are actually extremely wrong! Maybe we’d better pay attention and learn how to listen. The Lord did not tell me about those beads until I initiated that conversation. It is up to US to keep our hearts right and it is NOT an automatic thing. We need be intentional about it.

Here’s a little snippet from the bible that is really interesting – it shows what real obedience looks like. Peter and his mates had been fishing all night when Jesus called out to them: “Have you caught any fish boys?”  They said ‘no.’ (At this point I would like to point out that these men were very experienced generational fishermen who earned their living fishing!) “Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5. It is time that we stopped explaining away what He asks us to do and simply obey Him in spite of our own personal feelings and discomfort. “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”

ps Read the story of Abraham and Isaac and their God-initiated trip up a mountain. 👋🏻
