Yoke

P 3328 You may need your molars!

“When You speak to me, I devour every word. Your Word brings me such boundless joy. The endless delight of my heart is in knowing that Your beautiful name is attached to me, O  Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies.” Jeremiah 15:16 TPT.

Right. Let’s be clear. This is Jeremiah speaking, he was the prophet who didn’t want to be a prophet — who had to lie on one side for a year, and then he had to do the same thing on the other side – all of this was for the Lord’s purposes. Once he was told to bury his loin cloth in the dirt, to teach the Israelites a lesson, and after that he had to wear the mangy, mouldy, mostly-destroyed loin cloth … that’s the scoop for all you fashionistas out there – mouldy clothes! 

This is a guy who walked about with half his head shaved … nothing new there! He was known as ‘the weeping prophet’ because his life was very hard. He was imprisoned, persecuted, betrayed, thrown into a pit by his friends. This man was a walking illustration of what God wanted to say to His people about what was rapidly coming toward them! But, please note — this stuff wasn’t just information to Jeremiah – it was his LIFE! And this man, whose life wasn’t a whole heap of fun, fun, fun — also still said those beautiful words at the top of this page.

My point today, is that life is filled with dichotomies. None of us are just one thing, we all wear different hats in different circumstances and each of us have been asked to deal with all kinds of things in our lives. Some people won’t like what we say – or we do – or even what we don’t do. My conclusion is this – you can’t please people, they are way too fickle! Go with pleasing the Lord. It’s much safer – He’s reliable! Just wait, your troubles will all make sense, eventually.

It is time to relinquish the idea that our lives are always meant to be happy, and but go after His joy! Instead of chasing this world’s idea of happiness our God saved us to use us to enlarge His kingdom. Let’s also remember, our God loves a big family! But just like Jeremiah … belonging to the Lord and being named and owned as the Lord’s child, is our greatest joy and aim as well as … … here comes a word we all hate … responsibility! 

I’ve learnt to deeply appreciate what Father God says, and what He does, and how He does it. Often that actually happens after the hard stuff has been resolved. The difficulties life throws at us can hurt like mad, but eventually these thing fade, or we get used to it … or … we learn from Him how to live with it, like Jeremiah did. The secret to surviving is to allow the bad stuff to be regularly replaced by our ever-present knowledge that Almighty God loves each one of us, unconditionally, and He always wants our good. At the same time, we need to remember, whatever we focus on becomes bigger. 

Try focussing, like Jeremiah did, on Who the Lord is, and what He says about this life. We belong to Him now, that’s a comfort as well as a promise! Many people today want to be the prophet. I just want to say to them — “have you even read the Old Testament??” That kind of life is not as much fun as someone might think it is. A prophet’s life is a visual aid. Jesus’ life was! They often show us by the way they live that God’s Ways are costly, even though they are beautiful to behold. Jeremiah’s life did, so did Hosea’s!

The bible says: “It was for freedom that Christ set us free no longer to be made subject to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1). However that verse needs to be firmly accompanied by the knowledge that we are now yoked to Christ. So now we go where He goes, and do what He does – we become His heart, hands and feet.

I believe the Lord’s Word sustained Jeremiah through the hard times that constantly came hurtling right at him. This is a wonderful reason to cherish whatever the Holy Spirit says to us, when He says it. He wants to sustain us through trials. Father God promises to be with us, when we are in trouble — but sometimes the distance between that promise and its fruition is bigger than we would like. That’s when our faith in God’s goodness is tested.

Jesus warned us about this, in another back molar chewy verse – “I have told you these things, so that IN ME you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. So where is the peace? IN HIM. God has stated His purpose for what He does, and why He does it. We need to listen. Everybody likes the peace bit, but many of us wanna skip the ‘in this world you will have trouble’ part.

When we take what He says as information, we are instantly missing the application of His Words into our own lives. It means we aren’t chewing, instead we are browsing looking for answers that we might like more than the ones we found so far! Here’s my advice for free – simply ask the Lord: “What would You like me to learn here Lord?” This means we are both chewing and digesting God’s Word with the help of our molars!!  Bye. 👋

P 3311 Just enjoy the ride.

So many times we can be so caught up in ticking our daily boxes of things to do, we can easily forget that none of us get out of this life, alive! My advice for today is this: take the time each day to allow yourself to enjoy the ride. Taking pleasure in each day is the secret of true ongoing acceptance and happiness. It is much too easy to postpone JOY ‘until things get better.’ Don’t let disappointment jump on you and stay!

We can use up our allotted time here on earth, on things that won’t last, and those things can steal away the truly important things. Years ago, there was a saying: ‘Take time to smell the roses.’ Good advice! Unfortunately, today most people feel they don’t have time to grow roses … let alone smell them! We can spend so much time, planning this, and organising that, we can forget to live in the moment. But sometimes His JOY comes in brief moments that help to perfume our whole lifestyle. 

I just heard a story about two black holes which collided outside our universe, billions of trillions of light years away. There were two astrophysicists monitoring the night sky – night after dreary night – and they were tired of looking at nothing much. So one turned to the other and said: “I’m tired, let’s just go home early.” 40 minutes later, the gravitational pressure waves of those two black holes merging eons ago, washed across the earth! This phenomena had never been noted before. But that night it showed up, and registered on their many dials and gizmos. History happened and these men had gone home to bed. I laughed and laughed and laughed.Missed it by ←  that much → Things like this help me enjoy the ride. The two men laughed at themselves too.

If I have one piece of advice to anybody reading this – ya just gotta learn to laugh at yourself! Some of this stuff isn’t worthy of the angst you are spending on it! Make cherished moments just for YOU!  I truly enjoy the bible — it has lovely interesting, expressive words and phrases … a-n-d puzzles. I do love a good puzzle, and the bible is the best puzzle of all! Big confession! I’m a cheater, so I ask the Author loads of questions and He helps me. The more I read, the more I become delighted. Our Father’s Personhood comes out, particularly in the Old Testament. I enjoy this ride every day. At the same time we are so blessed to be able to know the Lord Jesus, He is there — on page after page, in the Gospels. “Jesus is God’s story!” Don’t treat reading it as info – see the Person.

Our Heavenly Father loves to hide things in plain sight. That to me is a big part of the enjoyment I get on this ride we call life. It’s the feeling that He isn’t half as serious about the things that turn our hair grey, as we are! Cyclone Alfred hit us last February, and we are still working on getting our bedroom fixed. So far we’ve moved out of our room 4 or 5 times – we actually lost count. All the furniture – in and out! At the same time, we’ve had people come to fix this, and remove that, and as a consequence — we have had the opportunity to meet people we would never have met who don’t share our faith. 

Enjoying the ride is a skill we can cultivate. It is like living with silence – it is incredibly valuable! I slowly picked things like this up, right after my last child went off to school, when I found I could think in proper English again! 10 years of babies, toddlers etc blew my brain. Sadly I got sick somewhere in there, and then I stopped enjoying the ride, for quite a while. So the Lord had to teach me step by step, how to see the good in things. Living this way helps me focus, despite what is going on round me. Despair bangs on my door too! But looking for Jesus has made it easier to see His pearls amongst the dark grey gravel of life!  

In Galatians 5: 17,18a it tells us why we need to look for the good. “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other …” The still-being-redeemed part of me can fight against what God wants to give me.That’s why I need to put to death the deeds of the flesh … because I can’t see the good until I change my focus. For me sometimes coping with life, is like turning trouble upside down … to find out what’s good about it! I’m going to shake that joyful sucker out of there somehow!!

One of my best blessings is my dear hubby who has the silliest sense of humour. Somehow I find his peculiar Dad-humour absolutely hilarious!! ‘A cheerful heart truly is the best medicine!’ And I appreciate the Lord’s joy through him. I have checked this out personally, and I can tell you —-‘the joy of the Lord really can be our strength’ … a couple of minutes of laughter will lift anyone’s mood.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1. The yoke we need to fight against is the idea that this life should be perfect. This verse tells us that God has already given us freedom, so we don’t have to be slaves labouring away to maintain something we already have! That’s like praying for more air in the middle of a forest. I think many man-made yokes rob people of enjoying the ride in their lives. 

Our participation in this life, is that we get to give our burdens to Him. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:28,29. WE ARE WEARING THE WRONG YOKE. Jesus has a better one.  Let’s allow ourselves to enjoy the ride. Bye 👋

P 3216 Obedience is not an optional extra.

Being obedient is the best way I know to walk with the Lord, and it can prevent a whole lot of confusion. I discovered that I needed to purpose in my heart to simply choose to be obedient. I’ve learnt to read the bible, pray and meditate on it and — do what it says. At the same time, I’ve found as I focus on loving other people, suddenly a whole lot of stuff that I needed, was added unto me along the way. “We have come into an intimate experience with God’s love, and we trust in the love He has for us. God is love! Those who are living in love are living in God, and God lives through them.” 1 John 4:16.

I believe that the depth and purpose we desire to love the Lord, appears when we intentionally, continually apply our dedicated obedience to His Word. Father God doesn’t need our mental agreement with whatever He has said, Jesus and the Holy Spirit agree with Him and that’s a majority right there!! This is what Jesus said about obedience in John 14:15-17. “If you love Me, you will obey My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper Who will be with you forever. That Helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it doesn’t see or know Him. You know Him, because He lives with you and will be in you.”

The Holy Spirit is our Helper, and Jesus specifically asked the Father to send Him to us – to help us to obey the Father. At the same time, the Lord expects us to treat the Holy Spirit with reverence and respect. The Spirit of God is gentle in His heart, like Jesus is, and we need to respect that He will not cannonball all over the place, or even push us along. He clearly knows what truth is, and it is unfortunately quite evident from the above scripture, that a lot of the time, we do not! 

My favourite times with the Holy Spirit happen when He shows me what the truth is, in whatever scripture I am reading. It’s like someone turns the light on when I’ve been sitting in the dark trying to puzzle out what God wants to say TO ME.The precious Holy Spirit will not show us His heart, or what He wants from us, or even share His secrets with us, if we have no desire to be obedient. What would be the point? 

Let’s look at Jesus’ own personal lament over man’s lack of willingness to live their lives close to God. It is recorded in Matthew 23:37, where He says to Jerusalem:“How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” Have you ever tried to cuddle a child that didn’t want to be cuddled? They are all wiggles, arms and legs and cranky with it. That’s what I think about when I read Matthew 23. God wants to love on us, but we want to hold ourselves far enough away from Him so we still have a say. Or we try to wrestle ourselves out of His grasp, as we go as close as we dare to — but no further.

Here are some more specific scriptures about being obedient: 1 Peter 1:14 “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,…” Acts 5:29: “But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.” Psalm 1:1–2: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.”  What we think about matters. The problem seems to be this — when we think about obedience long enough — if the change in our life is going to be hard, we postpone it, or try to go around it. 

Human beings keep their minds busy, trying to figure out this life so we feel more comfortable. So we problem-solve. Many times our minds will keep on returning to the difficulty, trying to figure out another answer, because we don’t like the one we have! The Lord has taught me to give things to Him. He told me to put every problem down, at His feet, and refuse to pick it up again. I give my problems to Him and He carries them for me. 

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” That burden we worry about all night might never happen, and even if it did, what can we do about it? Our King promises to intervene and teach us how to get through things, AS we learn to rest in Him.

Years ago, I kept getting stuck on the way other people I knew were living. What I thought they should do. All that stuff meant I was not meditating on God’s goodness to me! Instead I was whining, grumbling and complaining because my feelings were engaged in things that weren’t anything to do with me. At other times I wanted someone to help me, but I wanted them to do it my way. I didn’t want to consider God’s answers in case I was convicted of sin and I needed to change my attitude. I blamed those other people, because they wouldn’t change their way of doing things, and … make my life easier for me!  Yeah, you heard me! Oy vey!

Luke 6:46: “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”  I kind of think I might know why we do this… we want all the lovely benefits—but not the training in righteousness. We want a maid, or a butler, or a personal trainer following us about doing the hard yards for us. Jesus did all those the hard yards for us, long, long ago. But now, today, we must enter into the battle of all battles with our old self! The battle to think like He does! 

Obedience is not an optional extra, it’s the narrow way mentioned in Matthew 7! It is designed to reveal His heart to us, and our hearts toward Him. Living for His sake is always a choice, but it is also part of our ongoing salvation. Bye. 👋 

P 3074 Use your faith to make withdrawals.

“Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has already been deposited in us by His divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing Him Who has called us by name and invited us to come to Him through a glorious manifestation of His goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3 TPT.

Our Heavenly Father’s goodness and generosity is glorious! It has forever changed the whole of human history. Humanity went from an exclusive club, to an everything-included open-door policy that flourishes and grows as we all get to know Jesus! Knowing Him continually opens new spiritual doors. Whether you are at the beginning of your walk with Him, or you’ve been walking with the Lord for years —there is no greater joy than to know Him and follow Him, by serving Him and others. 

The Apostle Paul says this in Philippians 3:10.“That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death;…” Knowing Him includes suffering. We are bound to suffer when we don’t get what we want, because to serve Him, we must die to self! However, there is a huge plus — now we enter into true fellowship with Him. We have a shared experience! He is our chosen Leader in and through every situation.

Whatever we need to gain transformation, and greater intimacy with Him we already have. He already gave it to us.1 Peter says that in verse 3 Chapter 1! We didn’t even have to earn this honour. Feel free to raise a ruckus and jump about, because if that thought doesn’t want to make you cheer, maybe you’ve fallen a bit behind as you are following Him. May the Lord fix that! I’ve found astonishing things happen when we start yielding to Him. The more we lean our head on His chest, and listen to His words, the more we understand that this world has nothing lasting to offer us. 

If you were to give me a hundred million dollars and show me that you deposited that large sum in my name, in writing, all I would need to do to participate in what I have been given, is to turn up at that bank and start making withdrawals. And that’s the problem for many Christians — they don’t make withdrawals. That’s what our faith is for – to make withdrawals. We have been given everything we need for this life, but we need to use our faith to access it. 

We are going to have to put our whole selves into this new life we’ve been given, in order to experience transformation, because these holy, heavenly things won’t fall on us. So there is a pathway we tread, as we follow Him. That pathway leads down, and it will take care of pride. We learn to practice repentance and reparation, even when we think the other person should apologise. Now we are choosing to value peace above being right. The by-product is that we stop judging others by one standard, and myself by another. There is a far greater blessing when we walk through difficult things with Him.

Back to my thought above:  If I want to access that deposit Jesus died to give me, I will have to exercise my faith. Belief means I will act on what He has told me, whether it seems too amazing to be true or not, simply because Jesus Himself has told me. He tells me I can live life proactively instead of reactively now. I don’t have to wait for proof! It’s all in the book. I have chosen to live this life differently and I stick with it. I don’t try to weasel out of what He says, or excuse myself because of some reason or other — instead I ask Him to show me how to obey Him and then I do it. I don’t do it for YOU, I do it for Jesus, because that’s what a life laid down for His sake looks like!

When He says I don’t have to conform to this world, because I am no longer captive to its demands and threats, I step into what He said, rather than check with my feelings or previous experiences. When He tells me I can love the unlovely, I don’t wait to feel like it – I start loving them. I follow His instructions from His book daily, and I know He will teach me:  ‘this is how I want you to love that person.’ 

I might wait for you to bring that mythical 100 million dollars to my house, but I could have a mighty long wait. The way for me to access this blessing is to go to where the provision is – the provision is in activating our faith, and JESUS IS OUR PROVIDER. I go to Jesus and learn from Him how to repent about sin, and fix things with others, and then I obey what He says in His book.

The Lord has already told me that every other yoke I can pick up, apart from His, will be too heavy for me to bear.“Come to ME, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.

Ask a bible-believing Jesus follower if they have experienced transformation, so they can live like He did – without His input. I’ve tried. I got fed up, then I gave up. My desires and needs were too great for me to manage. But when I asked Him to help me, I began to make withdrawals on the deposit He has already put into my name.“…Everything we could ever need for life and godliness HAS ALREADY BEEN DEPOSITED IN US by His divine power.” Amen. Use your faith to make withdrawals. Bye. 👋

P 3030 Put Him in charge.

Father God’s primary interest is our good, and we need to continually develop our faith in His goodness by exercising our faith in Him. He wrote down everything we need in His book. There are people who don’t want to try out what the bible says, because they are scared of going the wrong way. And there are others who don’t want to live with uncertainty, because living by faith is hard … and their question often is: “isn’t this meant to be easy?”  

Show me a scripture for that! I know that the bible says:“His yoke is easy and His burden is light.” What that means is this – when you walk with Jesus the total weight is supposed to fall on Him – He’s the Leader. I have checked out an ox-yoke in a museum, they don’t look too light to me!  Meanwhile it’s a yoke not a scarf! You might like to sit and chew on that for a minute or two, and try not to choke. I pray on the spot a lot!

The media tells us that this life is so terrific, it is meant to be fun fun fun fun fun! “You can win this, be this, go here, go there, do this and that. Just believe in yourself. And beautiful looking people are just going to love you and want to join in with you as you have fun. Even old people can have loads of fun in old people homes.’ 🙄 If you want that kind of reality go to Disneyland, it has a whole kingdom devoted to it. It’s called Fantasyland.

Here’s something I’ve learnt as the Lord and I’ve walked together…His kind of fun, His kind of Joy, His kind of laughter is way more fun than anything this world can provide. And it won’t cost you a fortune to go places with Him either!  Just make sure where you want to go is where HE wants to go and then you are off, having some sort of adventure.

We once had morning tea at a coffee shop, and a young lady who served us had so many tattoos she looked like she had been painted with black paint. Jesus said: “Ask her to tell you about those tattoos.” 20 minutes later, the kitchen staff came out to see ‘those nice people who have been talking to me’ and the waitress paid our bill. THAT was fun… trust me! The Lord is the best kind of fun!

The Holy Spirit has done an ACE job of describing what our Heavenly Father loves in the book. You can start with the Beatitudes and go on from there. Don’t just read it. Remember reading without doing, can make us confused, or it could give us a fat head. Instead ask Him what you can do about what you’ve read. That’s how relationships work, BTW, conversations go both ways.  

An well-known author who wrote great books many years ago was one of my favourites. He has since gone on to glory but he sure knew how to have fun! I found out much later that he had an incredibly grouchy wife who didn’t understand his Christianity or his attitude. Yet this man found joy in everything. I used to get so happy reading his books before bed, that I couldn’t sleep! He’s out of print now, but Amazon has some books of his. 

Here’s my version of something brother Harold Hill once said – “At first, when I started my walk with Jesus I decided it would be OK if He sat in the back seat of my car. Then He could talk to me and advise me if I needed it. The thing was, sometimes I couldn’t hear Him very well. So then I decided it might be better if He sat in the front seat with me whilst I drove. But that didn’t work out so well either, I kept having to take my eyes off the road to talk to Him, and well … I couldn’t concentrate or drive properly. I stopped the car and asked Him what I could do about it. Jesus smiled, one of those lovely big smiles, and He said: ‘Come with Me.” He opened the boot and said: “Get in. You’ll be much safer in here. I’ll drive.” 

The only safe driver of our individual ‘cars’ is the Lord. There are times that He will park us under a tree and wait with us while we rest. At other times He will give us a huge hug, a-n-d then we will probably need a very large box of tissues! The secret is to let Him do what He wants.

Just don’t get stuck anywhere, keep moving along as He leads you. We follow Him because He knows the road ahead much better than we do. Jesus walked many roads while He was here, the kind of things we walk through. He faced bad things happening and being misunderstood. He knows every single detail of where we are going and how to get there. We can trust Him to take us where we need to go and look after us.

“What if I mess up?” Well … what if you don’t? Both scenarios are an option. But if you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, then that’s the time to remember our wonderful Saviour is also our very great Redeemer. He can take the worst sinner and transform them into a glorious saint and worshipper of God. He can redirect you in the middle of life’s turbulent traffic!

Always remember that: “God doesn’t break bruised reeds” Isaiah 42:3 & Matthew 12:20. When we get stuck in the mud of our own messes, Jesus will always come and get us out. Many dumb sheep wander off the pathway, but He’s the Good Shepherd. He knows how to rescue dumb sheep. Don’t ever be fooled into thinking that what you’ve done is so bad He won’t love you anymore. That’s a lie from the pit.  Let Him be in charge and He will amaze you. Bye 👋

P 3013 Our God is incredibly generous.

When the Lord comforts us, He is also giving us something we can pass on to someone else who is in need. Almighty God is so incredibly, over-the-top generous, He doesn’t only give us what we need, He gives us more than enough, so we have plenty to give way!!

“All praises belong to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. For He is the Father of tender mercy and the God of endless comfort. He always comes alongside us to comfort us in every suffering so that we can come alongside those who are in any painful trial. We can bring them this same comfort that God has poured out upon us.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 TPT. I’m a conduit, a channel. You are one too – all of God’s children are conduits of what He has given us.The secret to thriving in His Ways is not to own anything! I don’t just mean that literally, I mean whatever we have is always available to help someone else. Time, love, compassion, faith etc… as well as practical things.

We give away what we have already been given, because sharing is now part of our new nature. We don’t have to squirrel stuff away for another day, because we already know that:“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.“ 2 Peter 1:3. As the bible says what we have is: “…pressed down and running over…” This means we will always have more than enough! We simply have to be flexible and divide between our needs and wants. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1. God loves His kids. Each one of us is precious to Him – He covers, guides and protects us.

We get comfort from Him, through other people, and through His Word, plus other people’s prayers for us – and then we give it away. I have found that right along with comfort we also get “hope” when ours has started to wobble and get wonky under duress. The next time something dastardly happens to you, instead of hunting about trying to find Him, just remind yourself that He is right next to you. The bible says that like this: “He ALWAYS comes alongside us …” That means we can bank on it. Don’t feel around to see if it is true, remember Peter — he got out of the boat and stepped onto the water, and LET GO, and then he did the impossible. 

Believe God is with you because He is. If your difficult situation has not gone away, then He knows that together you and He can get through it. Ask Him to show you the way through. Some things are meant to be endured with patience because that’s how you get the fruit of long-suffering love. We cannot afford to consult our feelings when the ceiling of our life just fell in. Our feelings will react. It’s normal.  Read the book – Jesus had feelings! But … they were not in charge of His responses. 

The society we live in makes feelings way more important than they ought to be. In years gone by people elevated the brain. It seemed that knowing stuff was going to help us through any crisis. Information proved to be a dud, because our knowledge kept changing along the way! If we elevate our feelings over our faith we are missing out on His generous flow of wisdom and comfort that constantly comes our way. God wants us to win. Everything He has done is to help us win in this battle called ‘life.’

We are the people of His Spirit, so feelings and knowledge take a secondary place in our lives. They are still there – after all we are not stoics, beating our feelings into submission! We simply relinquish how we feel and whatever has happened, to the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us to pick up and wear the yoke He wore. His yoke was obedience to His Father in every circumstance. He saw the “Yes” of God and He saw the “No” and the result was the same – He continued to glorify God. We simply can’t afford to let our feelings stay in control of our lives or reactions. Cry if you have to, yell if you have to, but yell out to God for His help to walk through whatever has happened. 

We have been exhorted, with His help, to grow suitable, sustainable fruit… the fruit of the Spirit called “self-control.” That fruit grows in good times and in bad, as we ask for His help to watch over our inner lives.. As we yield our will to Him, and follow His instructions from the book, we prepare the ground for good fruit. Fruit takes time, so we need to be ready to persevere. That allows His fruit in us to ‘set.’ The very first year our mango tree appeared to have fruit, it got all these happy little nubs on it and we got so excited … fruit at last … then they all fell to the ground! The fruit had not set – it had not been successfully pollinated. God will pollinate our feeble attempts at faith, with more faith, because He is generous!

Our knowledge of Who He is, and the Way He does things, needs to be established in an ongoing fashion in our hearts, otherwise we will continue to flounder about like a fish out of water. We were born for this life. He chose us to be His, before the foundation of the world. Did you get that? He picked us to be His children before there were trees, stars, oceans, dry land, good food to eat! And Father God is incredibly generous, He will give us everything we need for a Godly life. So we can complete the works He sent us to do. If you don’t got what you think you need, then you don’t need it! Believe in your Father’s generosity – He believes in you. Bye. 👋

P 3007 “Take My yoke upon you … and learn from ME!”

Whatever we want to learn about God’s kingdom can’t be second-hand knowledge, because that stuff will simply fill our brain and puff us up! Unless we choose to action what we’ve heard it can’t change our lives! I can carefully listen to my pastor, but unless I go away and pray over the things he said, I’m deceiving myself. Meanwhile the pastor is probably praying everyone listening to him will action what he says in the first place! Because when we act on what we’ve heard – that introduces opportunities for inner transformation. 

God’s word is ‘near us’ when we study it and want to understand it… but it becomes a part of who we are when we act on it. However! When I enforce the Word on myself, without asking for the Holy Spirit’s help, I can develop things that are not desirable. I can easily become proud and religious, or easily intimidated, and overwhelmed by life’s circumstances. James clearly tells us how to make the bible a part of our inner selves:

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” (Chapter 1 – Verses 22-25)

We can so easily be self-deceived if we read the Bible and then dismiss what we read as something ‘that doesn’t apply to me.’ Maybe we don’t want to face a realistic picture of ourselves? Instead, it is wise to ask the Holy Spirit to show you where what you have read applies to you and what He wants you to do about it.. Father God wants us to become so saturated in His Word through our actions, that wherever we go … we respond just like Jesus did. He didn’t just speak, He acted.This means our behaviour will change and other people will see God in action in us and through us. 

Willingly forgiving anyone in all kinds of circumstances, is a sign of God’s Word on the inside. So is generosity in all our dealings with other people. If we pray for patience, and then give up when it seems like nothing has happened, that’s when we need to carefully survey our surroundings and the people in them, and look for the ones that drive us crazy! These people are our God-given test cases. After we find them, we need to go on to thank Him for these impossible people who are giving us daily opportunities to change the way we respond. Instead of cursing them, this is an opportunity to bless them.

Likewise, when things don’t work out according to our prayers, we need to reinforce our faith with action, instead of worrying or panicking. Like I said yesterday, God always has a bigger plan. The thing to do is to keep our hope in His redemptive power alive, through prayer, thankfulness and HIS WORD. His absolutely totally reliable goodness is our eternally, ever-fixed mark. We hold onto His promises and keep the faith that God is good, all the time. This means that if we cannot see any good — then we are not through the difficulties …YET!… Hold fast! …“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9. 

Our faith is always in God Himself, not just in what He does or how He does it. When our faith is in how God does stuff we can misguidedly try to manipulate our circumstances, or the Lord Himself, into doing whatever it is we want. Almighty God won’t be fooled by this deception. We are not God, He is!

I think we have totally misunderstood the Way faith works. We can rush about quoting this scripture. and that passage, up one hill and down the other, but all we are doing is bludgeoning our faith, trying to make it fit and submit to a standard that we think we need from it. Faith is not about getting – it is about Giving God Glory at any time, in any place. It’s about Him — not how well, or poorly we use it. Our faith has substance because God Himself has substance!

I have yet to get excited about being overtaken by trouble and difficulties … but I am learning if I go to the Lord and ask Him what He wants me to do about the situation I am facing … He will answer me. I want to learn – and I know that Jesus wants to personally teach me. I’ve picked up the yoke of walking together with Him. The Lord was human just like me, tempted the same ways I have been – He understands the weariness that can overtake us in the middle of the battles we face. Sometimes we need to know the way THROUGH situations rather than the way OUT.

The Holy Spirit will always be our personal Leader and Guide. He leads us through any wildernesses in this life. He tells us daily how to walk, where to go, and what to do. Just three minutes ago, hubby texted me to say that he had met 9 Samoan fruit pickers and given them all bibles. He was just going about his business in the little town of Mundubbera in outback Queensland!  Almighty God is the best co-ordinator ever!!

He is all WISE, all KNOWING and… FOR US! Let’s learn personally from Him, through our circumstances – good and bad. When we pick up Jesus’ yoke and deliberately learn from Him, we are honouring Him and His Ways above all else. Bye.🤚

P 2950 Not every voice is His.

There is an ad on TV at the moment, that has this poor overwhelmed schmuck at work. You can kind of tell he is brow-beaten down by his job. And other people keep adding to what this guy is supposed to do as he walks by them. So he ends up with post-it notes all over him, computers stuck to his back and arms, and files stuck on him everywhere. He is weighed down by it all, as it gets added to, minute by minute. In the end he can barely drag himself about.

Eventually he goes outside for a break, still dragging himself and all the attached guff with him. He breaks the you-beaut-yummy chocolate bar into two and everything attached to him drops off! … end of story. And no! I have no intention of telling you what kind of magic chocolate bar that is!! Imagine what the sales on something like that could do? The mind boggles.

Back to the blog … Christianity can be a bit like that ad. This Godly person says that great thing, that preacher writes a great book, and we can become weighed down by information that becomes stuck on the outside of ourselves. Adding to the pile of stuck-on-junk by insisting we learn this thing and that principle from the bible. 

My point is not about what we stick on ourselves — my point today is about the weight of ‘the stuff’ we carry about. We personally choose to stick stuff on the outside of us and we let others do it too because we are hoping to become ‘more spiritual.’ We say that God loves each one of us just the way we are – and then we act like we’d better watch out because He is just waiting to catch us doing something we shouldn’t! Fear has no place in faith, or LOVE either. The Lord is not sitting about tut-tutting because this person or that one does not understand Him. He loves the multitudes – their sin, our SIN separates us from Him.

That guy in the ad magically improved his life just by eating a chocolate bar! Now wouldn’t that be nice? But the idea is an interesting one. Because the Godly things we choose to digest, and act upon, become a part of us and we don’t have to drag stuff around with us like the tail on a kite anymore! Anything that is stuck onto us on the outside will drop off under pressure. The aim is for our hearts to change, not just our behaviour.

Isn’t that a great thought? To know what is right and want to do it, empowered by Grace, and standing in perfect freedom. I honestly don’t think we need any more information – we need to start applying what we already know, until it becomes part of us. We’ve become so used to stuffing things into our heads, our hearts have become burdened by the weight of them! Christianity is not meant to feel like a weight.

Jesus said this in Matthew:11:28-30: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

So when I go to church I ‘listen carefully’ to the pastor, but I am learning from Jesus! I’m listening for what my Heavenly Father wants to say to me, personally…What is He saying to me today?  I’m always looking for His rest because that’s what He said He will give me when I learn from Him! Personally I don’t need any more weight to lug about, because I can find plenty by myself… That’s not a life-skill by the way, it’s dumb.

Our God will always want to share Himself and His knowledge with us. However, this life is not about some exclusive prophets and seers club. ”For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3.  He gives all of us these graces for free to help us to grow and follow Him.

The bible also states…“‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.”Jeremiah 33:3. Our natural minds don’t always understand the things of the Spirit, but that does not mean He is not sharing great and mighty things with us. Just like we need spiritual eyes to see the people around us, we need spiritual ears to hear what God is saying to us. If we listen for rules we will hear rules, if we listen for His love toward us we will hear it. His love by the way, never sounds like permission to do something we know is not-so-good.

At the same time what the Lord says, isn’t always something terribly deep and meaningful, or profound and mind boggling. Almighty God talks “ordinary human being!”  He did that in the garden. We see Jesus do it in the Gospels, the Lord was not condescending to anyone. Instead He engaged with His listeners and He spoke at their level. 

God’s word is like that chocolate bar in the crazy Ad. His word instantly pushes burdens off your back and leaves you free to enjoy Him and your life, despite its ups and downs. Always remember, He is not speaking to the guy behind you or the lady in front of you – He is speaking to you! He wants to speak words of loving affirmation to you. Just be aware that not every voice you hear is His. We can count on the fact that when He speaks to us, He is leading us forward. Bye, 👋.

‘Let’ is actually a really big word despite it only having 3 letters! God clearly tells us: “I will LET you learn.” The dictionary says this about the word LET… not prevent or forbid; allow. As we deliberately pick up His yoke, He has promised to teach us everything we will need for our new life. But the Lord won’t push us, we still need to choose what He wants. So … let’s move on and look at a few of the many blessings of ‘letting’ …

“Let us gaze upon Jesus, as the Author and the completion of our faith,…” Hebrews 12:2;  Looking at our failure kills faith, but looking at what He did for us, opens us up to learn His Ways.“And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds…” Hebrews 10:24. WE set the pace, we choose our growing edges. God is always waiting and willing to teach us.“Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not …” Galatians 6:9. If we get tired we can ask for help, that’s how we will learn how patient He is, how ready to help us. 

“…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus,…” Hebrews 12:1.We need to let Him guide us, and teach us what we need on our journey with Him, His book is a revelation of His will. Some things are weights, so we can get tired if we don’t  leave them behind. We need to choose to confess our sins, and receive His forgiveness, be-ca-use … “IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.

So much is available to His kids when we chose to deliberately learn His Ways and practice them! Jesus said: “…Walk with Me and work with Me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:29a&30. The Lord allows us to learn how Grace works, as we read and put into practice what He said in the book. This is how we learn to trust Him, because what He does can be seen unfolding around us.

His overflowing Grace is always there for us, and we have more than enough to give away. That’s because we have a more-than-enough God Who is rich in these qualities and HE LOVES TO SHARE!  A.S.K. and … keep on asking!  Jesus gave this world an inexhaustible supply of Grace. We are encouraged to learn how His Grace impacts our lives and the lives of those around us, with His help, by using our faith. We are now grace dispensers.

Grace is our all day, all night, in every circumstance – enabler of good! It’s the Holy Spirit’s forte. He is so-oo good at it! Sometimes I have been as dumb as the dirt I came from, but HE knows how to do anything and everything – well!  When His Grace is present it means my focus is on Him, not just any pain or circumstances. I deliberately choose to put my focus onto the Lord and His eternal provision, and at the same time, I understand that He is teaching me about Himself. Then: “having done ALL I stand!” … until I hear from Him again. The Holy Spirit helps me, and praise Him, He will help and allow His kids to learn LOVE in all its forms.

We can gladly embrace the Love God has for every single human being, because our focus is not on what they have done, or did or didn’t do — it is on Who He is and what He already did! As we let that kind of love in, using our faith — it opens us up to the infinite possibilities of His Kingdom. He helps us by pointing out where we are falling down … so we don’t have to fall down next time! He lets us learn His Ways with His loving Eye upon us. Our God is never an absent God – He can be silent – but He is never gone!

You and I are a part of Him now, because we are His Body. We know we will always be received and He loves to help us to be ministers of reconciliation.. We need to make Him welcome, as our personal tutor/teacher/helper/guide/interpreter. We just need to A.S.K. I am so grateful that He lets us learn. I’ve found that the action of letting Him, or allowing HIM to take charge, is a HUGE thing.

Despite this word’s actual size, it is incredibly important. It has opened the door to a whole other way to live – in another Kingdom – His! Bye. 👋
