P 2827 Make way for the road builders!

“A thunderous voice cries out in the wilderness: “Prepare the way for Yahweh’s arrival! Make a highway straight through the desert for our God! Every valley will be raised up, every mountain brought low. The rugged terrain will become level ground and the rough places a plain.” Isaiah 40:3 TPT. In this verse Isaiah describes our every day task for Jesus’ sake. He does it beautifully, accurately and passionately.

Not everyone likes the Passion Translation, so here’s the Message bible as well,  just because it also says it beautifully. “Thunder in the desert! Prepare for God’s arrival! Make the road straight and smooth, a highway fit for our God. Fill in the valleys, level off the hills, Smooth out the ruts, clear out the rocks. Then God’s bright glory will shine and everyone will see it. Yes. Just as God has said.”

You know, you and I are glorified rock removalists…road builders!  Our job is to get rid of anything in front of other people as they make their way toward God. Not to mention the odd stone that we could also fall over that is in our own path!! We must deal with those things that make people stumble. What do I mean by stumble? Well, Auntie Mary can’t get over Uncle Pete’s infidelity. That’s a big one! They need forgiveness and reconciliation.

Or someone has deserted one of their kids because this kid has done so many bad things nobody can count – so now they’ve disowned them. These people need the Prince of Peace. That’s a big boulder! Maybe your neighbour’s dog keeps doing his business on your lawn. That’s kind of pebble-sized, but highly annoying when you go to get your paper and find that stuff with your slippered foot … even little things are sometimes trip-worthy because they niggle at you.

So we pray because as rock removalists we have been given authority to speak to mountains – so a rock is nothing to us! Maybe your attitude to your spouse is antagonistic, or absent, or whatever!! Part of your job is to repair the breach. ←That just means fix stuff – preferably when it happens. The bible says: “…you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.” Isaiah 58:12 …so we get to prayerfully fix things around us that are not working, particularly relationships. You know, I think Isaiah picked up a lot of marvellous stuff when he made that trip up into the throne room.

As an aside, over the years I have heard people talk about an experience, or the feelings they had when the Holy Spirit came and touched them. Unfortunately, I have hardly ever heard anyone talk about the Lord pointing out sin, or changing their hearts! This has always made me wonder…because I know that the Holy Spirit doesn’t come to do nothing. Maybe the person missed the point. Back to road building …

Here’s a few more. We all know there are people we like to avoid … now there’s an easily-tripped-over rock.🎁 It’s nearly Christmas!! 🎁Yay! What about all those relatives you haven’t seen since last year? You know, the ones you aren’t looking forward to seeing this year? Leaving things unattended to makes a big PILE of rocks instead of a little one, and Jesus is very clear … He wants no rocks at all, thank you!! These verses are part of our job description. We’ve erroneously thought Isaiah was only in the bible to give us loads of comfort verses. Wrong!

Rock removalists get to remove boulders! The fun part is they get to blow them up with God’s word and Spirit-led prayer. Don’t be discouraged BTW, some of those blooming big rocks take a lot of spiritual dynamite, but Jesus told us that we can tell any mountain to go jump in the sea, so serve that thing in your life with notice and tell it “ready, steady .. JUMP!” And keep pointing the dividing sword of God at the situation, speaking redemption, peace and reconciliation as well.

We all want to do cool things, things that everyone will notice, but real rock removalists like to do things unseen, in their prayer closets. How many road builders have you stood and watched lately? That would be … like  …NONE? That’s what I thought. It’s a job that looks boring and repetitive and seems to accomplish not much that is visible.. Do remember those road builders the next time you are travelling along a nice smooth highway! Remember, roads connect A to B… otherwise people get lost.

And can I just mention that we do not have to be ‘nice’ to the devil? Rudeness is wasted on him, but we can definitely let him have it when we pray! True road building authority isn’t about yelling – it’s about knowing who you are. We must remember what we are here for, because we are walking along pitching rocks off roads … because Jesus Himself is going to walk along those roads. That’s the point of a clear road. It’s for people to walk on it without falling over or falling off, or turning back because they are discouraged.

BTW we don’t throw those pesky little rocks away, we use them to fill in the holes. We smother them with prayer – which is the best glue ever – and flatten out and fill the holes in people’s lives. The things that lack the Love of God — it never fails. Bye. 👋  More on this subject tomorrow.

P 2539 Fear must never stop me.

1 Samuel 23:1-3,4-5,9-13. “When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” he inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The Lord answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!…  “

First of all I want to point out today, that before David did anything, he went and asked the Lord …  It is essential that we learn to live by this game plan, because it is incredibly important to seek His kingdom first. Talking with the King ushers in His kingdom!

The next thing that popped up when I was reading this story, was the fact that David’s men were afraid to go when this battle opportunity occurred. They definitely did not want to go to Keilah, because they thought they would be even more afraid there!  These men were men of renown, they were known as ‘David’s mighty men’ … this was no rag-tag army filled with misfits and left-overs! Yet they were afraid before they obeyed, right where they were staying!

Fear is never a sign to quit. Fear is a sign we should press in to God! One of my favourite sayings is “do it anyway!!” I usually end up in a wrestling match with myself but, in the end, I’ve been doing it anyway for the past 50 years. Fear is not a good outcome indicator. But faith defeats fear and … … does it anyway.

Verses 4&5“…Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”  So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah.”

As you can see, these guys went and WON —by God’s Grace!  They put their feelings to one side and obeyed. This is an essential thing to do when He tells you to do something you are downright scared about. Fear has kept so many of God’s precious kids from His blessings. There are blessings galore that are waiting to be heaped on us, they will fall on us because of our simple obedience. To start with we will be more free than we were before! So:  we need to go and speak to that person…. or go and do what He keeps telling us to do. If we need it in writing then read the book…!!

Verses 9-13 “When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod.”  David said, “Lord, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me. Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Lord, God of Israel, tell your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will.” Again David asked, “Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord said, “They will.” So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place.”

David’s mighty men experienced fear, but they were not afraid without a good reason. We, too, often have plenty of good reasons! These guys had already tangled with King Saul and his wicked ways, plus his deceit, so they definitely had good reasons to be afraid. That man was a slippery customer! But they followed their leader as he was following God — and God saved them and the town of Keilah as well. They accomplished their objective despite their fear and the circumstances. Our God is like that. He loves to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat! Remember the cross.

He is the same God Who says in: Isaiah 61:3 TPT “… to strengthen those crushed by despair who mourn in Zion– to give them a beautiful bouquet in the place of ashes, the oil of bliss instead of tears, and the mantle of joyous praise instead of the spirit of heaviness. Because of this they will be known as Mighty Oaks of Righteousness, planted by YAHWEH as a living display of His glory.”  We are His righteous oaks … … whether we feel like it or not!

Jesus died to give us these things, but we dare not just cherry-pick the bits we like. We all want the flowers, the joy, and the new garment, but to get them we need to go through the crushing, and ashes, and heaviness!  Meanwhile our feelings have nothing whatsoever to do with WHO HE IS. How can we learn to trust Him if we let fear rule our lives? He loves to snatch victory from defeat. The guys who look the least like the winners, the ones who start out fearful, and those who dare to believe Him  – WIN!

The following verse is also worth thinking about because it points to the fact that He is MIGHTY:  “You build Your balconies with light beams and ride as King in a chariot You made from clouds. You fly upon the wings of the wind.”  Psalm 104:3. TPT. Our God is not weak and wobbly, There is nothing too difficult for Him to handle – including our fear. Bless you. 🥰

P 2364 Tie your heart into this.

“For this reason the Lord is still waiting to show His favour to you so He can show you His marvellous Love. He waits to be gracious to you. He sits on His throne ready to show mercy to you. For Yahweh is the Lord of justice, faithful to keep His promises. Overwhelmed with bliss are all who will entwine their hearts in Him,waiting for Him to help them.” Isaiah 30:18 TPT.

Here’s a word of wisdom for you: “YOU DON’T HAVE TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM GOD.” He’s a safe person – ergo, you can also trust what He says in His book! Isn’t that scripture above just amazing?  When you take the time to turn off the voice inside your head that says that this is poetic language and not personal, and read it like God Himself is talking to you instead … you will see what I mean. He looks for opportunities to bless us. What’s not to love about SomeOne like that?

God is waiting to be good to us, He wants to show His favour and mercy, so we can see His love in our own lives, on the spot, not just somewhere out in the future – but right here right now!  I mean WOW! THE God of the Universe and beyond, the God who made people, galaxies, ants, whales and puppy dog tails, can’t wait to be good to us! Imagine that. Let’s just leave that ‘out ‘ there and think on it for a bit. I dunno about you, but thinking like that always makes me happy …

Did you read the condition that is attached to these most excellent promises? ‘entwine their hearts in Him, WAITING for Him to help them.’ (OK, OK – I’m about to do an — I told you so!! I told you that waiting can sometimes be a part of the deal.) I read this very appropriate scripture from the Amplified version of His book. It is my personal all time favourite version. Hebrews 10:35&36 “Do not, therefore, fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward. For you have need of patient endurance [to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising], so that when you have carried out the will of God, you may receive and enjoy to the full what is promised.”

Don’t’cha just love that word … FLING … as in “fling away … “ In a fit of anger, frustration, or even depression we can throw away our confidence in His unchanging, eternal love, just like we would throw away a broken frisbee. These verses are saying – don’t do it!  It reminds me of those cartoons when something disastrous is about to happen and the little man is running, in slow motion, yelling S-T-O-P! Instead of panicking, maybe we need to WAIT.

Have you ever thrown out something and regretted it afterwards? Actually, it seems to me that I’ve thrown out many things only to need them, like… one week later. Ugh! Frustration looms. It’s amazing the things you can keep, thinking that this thing might – save me money, come in handy, be useful for this or that – only to end up with rooms full of little boxes, post bags, blister wrap, etc. – which, BTW you never use! OR … if you do finally find a use, then you can’t find the blasted thing under the pile of the 94 other little boxes etc etc. My point is we need to keep our confidence in Him fresh and handy!

Our confidence in His goodness is meant to sustain us through the times when we are barely treading water and we are desperately holding onto our hope that that little dot on the horizon will turn out to be a boat or a plane and not a shark! That’s when we need to tie our hearts into scriptures like this one in Luke 11:11 …“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”

Well, that’s pretty self-explanatory really. The thing is, in the past we tied these verses, and others like them into material things. But verses like this are equally, if not more powerful, when applied to godly concepts. Hey, if you need a new working washing machine then ask away! If your car is grinding more than jump-starting, then ask away … we simply need to remind ourselves that sometimes we have to wait for the good and perfect will of God.

He likes whatever He does to bless a whole lotta people. Everybody around us!! If we are mingy and selfish and want that blessing, right now, just for ourselves, then we might end up waiting a while. In the meantime we probably need to adjust our attitude and with His help – we can! That’s how we tie our hearts into His ways. By letting Him change us! 👋🏻

P 2359 Psalm 3.

King David’s song when he was forced to flee from Absalom, his own son: “Lord, I have so many enemies, so many who are against me. Listen to how they whisper their slander against me, saying: “Look! He’s hopeless! Even God can’t save him from this!”  Pause in His Presence. But in the depths of my heart I truly know that You, Yahweh, have become my Shield; You take me and surround me with Yourself. Your glory covers me continually. You lift high my head. I have cried out to You, Yahweh, from Your holy presence You send me a Father’s help. Pause in His presence

So now I’ll lie down and sleep like a baby—then I’ll awake in safety, for You surround me with Your glory. Even though ten thousand dark powers prowl around me. I won’t be afraid. Rise up and help me, Yahweh! Come and save me, God! For You will slap them in the face, breaking the power of their words to harm me. FOR THE LORD ALONE IS MY SAVIOUR. What a feast of favour and bliss He gives His people! Pause in His presence.”

Some times the people we love dearly, the ones who are our family, can do the most damage. It doesn’t even have to be what they say – neglect and abandonment can devastate us. The first point I want to make today is that this kind of scenario is not a walk in the park. We can’t just click our heels and the bad bits will go away. These things severely test us and often challenge our belief systems. They test our resolve to follow Him no matter what happens.

Some things are a choice, but when it comes to family, those things are the places where we find we are most vulnerable. Family is about history. They knew you when. You knew them from birth…. That kind of history tears at our hearts like very little else, and betrayal from those who are meant to protect and care for us brings deep wounds. My advice is this;  start this process with healing, not rebuking or blaming your self. Ask the Lord Himself to be your Father and help you with the places that are bleeding inside from all that betrayal you feel.

Don’t make excuses for them, and don’t make excuses for you either. It is what it is. David’s son was trying to kill him to take the throne. It wasn’t a whoopsie, or an error of judgment, it was a deliberate act of betrayal for Absalom’s gain. If you read the story, (2 Samuel 13-37 -15-12), Absalom went about whispering in other people’s ears, trying to turn the people’s loyalty away from David. That is not a mistake, it is deliberate SIN. In Absalom’s case it was jealousy and pride. He was beautiful and popular and he knew it and then pride took over.

Sometimes our family member/s are not simply making a mistake, they have joined their allegiances with destruction. They may call it correction, or caring for you, but because you are maintaining some degree of freedom or other they do not have, they will try to stop you anyway they can. Jesus Himself said this about families in Matthew 10:36 –“Don’t think I’ve come to make life cozy. I’ve come to cut—make a sharp knife-cut between son and father, daughter and mother, bride and mother-in-law—cut through these cozy domestic arrangements and free you for God. Well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. If you prefer father or mother over Me, you don’t deserve Me. If you prefer son or daughter over Me, you don’t deserve Me.”

Look, if Jesus Himself talked about it, then difficulties like this aren’t totally unexpected. My only advice is grieve for your loss and ask the Lord to heal your heart with His Grace and Love, and then, immediately go on to choosing forgiveness. Some family members will turn around, and others will see your forgiving heart as something that can be used against you. Then you will need grace, grace and more grace. Don’t leave home without it, because Grace can do the impossible.

Don’t just content yourself with forgiving out of some kind of familial loyalty – ask and keep on asking for His Grace to truly forgive. INSIST. Meanwhile difficulties like this can take time to heal, so keep on believing God is helping you – and don’t quit. Take your focus off the family member/s that are persecuting you, and deliberately give those people as an act of your will, to Jesus. And then keep on doing that each time they come up in your mind – eventually Jesus in you will win.

At the same time it is good to go on into blessing these folks until you find you really mean it. It’s all a process and an extremely hard one at that. Your job is to watch over your heart and leave the work to the Holy Spirit. Let’s give thanks that we have a Parent Who never stops loving us, and He is totally devoted to the restoration of families. 👋🏻
