P 2375 What constitutes “CARES?!!”

It occurred to me this morning that in today’s world, the word ‘cares’ can be quite generic. So I want to spend some time following along from yesterday talking about cares and what that means in my life. Cares to some people could mean my kid’s friend doesn’t wanna play with him anymore. Or my best friend just moved away. Or I can’t start my car so I can get to work today.

But ‘cares’ can also be very big as well. They can be things like – my Mother is ill and I don’t know how to help her. Or my marriage isn’t working… or my child is being bullied at school. Cares are the things we drag behind us, like the tail on a comet. We need them gone, but we don’t know what to do with them or how to get rid of them – we’ve prayed and tried to figure out solutions but nothing works. Perhaps we even need to understand a difficult situation better because it’s bothering us  We dearly want to handle all these things in a Godly fashion, but emotionally .. we can’t – we end up exploding or not sleeping with worry.

Jesus talks about how He wants to help us with our ‘cares,’ and this means He wants to work for us, for our good, in all of the above, and more. I have lived the way I described yesterday – ‘casting my cares upon Him’  for a while now, and all I can tell you is – it changes things — and one of the things it has changed, IS ME! The Lord really does transform everything He touches. It’s glorious Jesus helps us, however, He doesn’t always fix stuff the way we think that those things should be fixed. But we can be absolutely certain that He will always fix them better than we ever imagined. Sometimes we just have to hold on and wait and use our faith.

So today, I want to give a few examples of what Jesus fixing cares, big and small, looks like here at our house. On one of our trips, hubby and I were on the road out in the middle of nowhere, taking bibles to outback places. By outback, I mean there were wild goats and pigs roaming around on the side of the road. We needed more petrol but there was no petrol available in the last little town we had stayed in. I had a large ulcer on my hip, and it was very painful. However, there was no way to get petrol where we were, so in the end we had no alternative but to press on. We prayed and told the Lord that we needed to get to the next town 200 kms away, and as HE told us to go there in the first place, it really was His problem if we ran out of petrol!

As we drove along … trying not to think about it! Hubby actually didn’t share what he could see right in front of him right away. Mainly because he couldn’t believe his eyes! As we drove off into the middle of nowhere, (where there are no petrol stations or people!), the petrol needle that was on empty kept going up and up and up! The car never faltered once and we eventually arrived safely at the other end of a very long road! We both held our breath for the entire journey – and we deliberately did not talk about it, because we had given it to Him. By the time we arrived at our destination there was more petrol in the tank then there was when we set out!! The ulcer on my hip was totally healed after I had a short rest. Hubby was off giving away bibles by that stage.

BTW, that little town we finally stayed in was a big source of copper for years, but the copper mine had closed and the little town was quietly shutting down with it. We prayed together that God would give them a new outlet and use for their copper, so the mine would reopen and bring new life to the town again. Months later I was reading the news and lo and behold there was an article about little towns and their financial situations. I read that this little town was again thriving. The copper in the mine was needed for something else! 🙌

OK now I want to talk about a smaller care. There is somebody in my immediate family that can be incredibly difficult to get along with – my faith is an enigma to them. If I don’t pray, when I see them, things get much worse. So I pray and I pray – and so does hubby – before I go to see them. I’ve learnt that prayer is great BUT some people need more! I need to do more. That person needs His help, and so do I – because we now have a history of failure. So when we’ve finished praying, we give it all over to the Lord and leave it there. Even on the car ride going toward their house, I refuse to pick it up again when it comes up in my mind.

I just keep saying: “I gave that to you, Jesus.” That BTW, is my active faith statement. When I trust in myself and my ability to handle the situation well… it does not go well. However, when I give it to Him, I am amazed at what He does with it. Because He cares for both parties – He takes care of it. Always remember —HE CARES FOR US –  we are on His heart. 👋🏻

“Listen to my testimony: I cried to God in my distress and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears! Gaze upon Him, join your life with His, and joy will come. Your faces will glisten with glory. You’ll never wear that shame-face again.” Psalms 34:4-5 TPT

P 2360 Look at what Almighty God can do with obedience!

Exodus 40:16“Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:19b “… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:21b “… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:23b “… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:25b “… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:27b “… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:29b“… as the Lord commanded him.”

Exodus 40:32b “ …as the Lord commanded Moses.”

Exodus 40:33b “…and so Moses finished the work.’

Exodus 40:35 “Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.” I just want to mention that Moses was familiar with God’s Presence – he’d been in it a bunch of times. Yet this time Moses couldn’t get into the tent! The Lord’s Presence is not measurable – it is without measure.

Eight times God specifically gave Moses instructions about how He wanted this place of sacrifice and worship assembled. And then God kissed the work of men’s hands with His Presence, because of their obedience and attention to detail. As Christians we cannot afford to diminish or dismiss our call to obedience. That is the cornerstone of our relationship with the Lord Himself. Jesus obeyed God unto death. Why on earth would we think it is OK to skate right on over whatever He has told us to do, in the book?!

The whole of that glorious tabernacle was assembled under the Lord’s oversight. It was designed by God, downloaded by the Holy Spirit to Moses and his team, and carefully worked into a cohesive whole by Him as well. And God approved every single stage of the tabernacle’s assembly so much that He did not just make suggestions, HE GAVE DIRECTIVES. Ya might want to think about that for a month or TEN. 🧐

At the end of Moses’ life, after he had led this group of difficult and demanding people around for 40 years, and watched all his peers die off;  He hit a rock twice, instead of once, and missed out on seeing the point of that whole journey! However, lest you think our God holds grudges, it has been said of Moses – that God Himself buried the man when He died. Wow. Nobody else but the Lord knows where Moses is buried. How He loved that man!!

Back to us today, and that option-out button we all like to use when God tells us to do something or other, and we don’t like it, or we aren’t sure if it is Him speaking or not! The devil likes to cloud our minds and throw doubt into the mix of what the Lord tells us to do. I’ve learnt to obey anyway. Sometimes I stand there and look like a goose, and sometimes He does something incredible, and that would be me, standing there again, this time with my mouth open like a cod-fish – astonished. If it doesn’t surprise you, it wasn’t GOD! The only Person destined to look good when we serve Him is Him. The glory is always His when He speaks.

He’s an amazing God, so He does amazing things.  We simply have not learnt that the way to partake of such things always involves our obedience. He once put me into my car to go across town to meet someone I didn’t know, to talk to them – and I didn’t even know what I was supposed to say when I got there! When I met this person, in my whole life I never met someone who seemed so together. They had been a Christian for years and years, and ran some wonderful thing or other for the Lord. I was intimidated to the max. On the way there … … did you get that??? ON THE WAY THERE !!! … the Holy Spirit gave me three scriptures for this person.

I read them out to this person and they melted like snow, right in front of my eyes and wept profusely. All I can tell you is this, all of us have secret buttons, other people may not know where they are, but boy, GOD KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE! I have never seen this person since, but I do know their life changed in those moments. And all I had to do was to be willing to obey, even though I felt like a lunatic, temporarily.

If you want to see miracles, and watch Him work in astonishing ways – trust Him, take a risk and learn to obey. Start by obeying what it says in the book, and go on to do the things He asks you to do. Treat His book seriously and do what He talks about. Be the kind of person who forgives and repents, and learn to change your behaviour, with His help – even if you think you aren’t wrong! Let God Himself be the One to excuse you, instead of doing it yourself – or taking a personal census to try to excuse yourself!

BTW that tabernacle Moses built was destined to be an illustration of something much bigger … SomeOne far greater Who was to come.  I’ve said it so many times – Jesus is all over the Old Testament and the New. When you and I obey, we release His Grace into this world. His GRACE is unstoppable. Obedience is not optional, it really is mandatory. You never know what God will do with your faith!👋🏻

P 2314 It’s a Redemption story.

In the bible we have the clearest picture of our God and His desires for mankind. I can see redemption spelled out so clearly – over and over again. Destruction can and will overwhelm us, without our constant awareness of His glorious redemption. To women like Ruth and Naomi His redemption looked like Boaz. To the 2nd thief on the cross next to Christ, it looked like paradise was knocking on his door.

In Exodus 35:4-9 there is another redemption story: “Moses said to the whole Israelite community, “This is what the Lord has commanded:  From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze;  blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair;  ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood;  olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;  and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breast-piece.”

So what are these verses in Exodus about? Are they about the local desert and wilderness ‘Stitches and Craft Show??’ 😳 These guys were formerly slaves – they were beaten, starved, and owned by somebody. So where did they get such incredibly rich and costly items? They were given to them by their captors the Egyptians, before they left Egypt. God gave the Israelites favour, so they were able to collect all these riches.

The point is not the riches, it is what the Lord did with them! Let’s just think about this, those precious materials were used to build a temporary house for God and man to meet… now that’s redemption! They were booty. The spoils of their captivity. God took the fruit of their captivity and turned it into a place of worship. 🧐 Think about it. He will do that for you and I. He will take the places of our greatest pain and loss, and make something so incredibly beautiful out of them – we will fall on our faces in worship.

I have two more illustrations. When Abraham went up the mountain to sacrifice Isaac, at that place of potential sacrifice, there was already provision. God provided a ram for Abraham to sacrifice instead of his precious son. On yet another occasion God provided a whale to preserve Jonah’s life – even though it was Jonah’s sin and disobedience that put him in that position in the first place!

My point today is this – do not let past failures, or circumstances, or even captivities, rob you of TODAY’S DELIVERANCE. Our God ALWAYS has a bigger plan. And don’t be surprised when the Lord takes whatever you give Him, no matter how decadent, destroyed or even wrecked it seems, and makes something glorious out of it! Just like the tent of meeting the Jewish people crafted, under the Holy Spirit’s tutelage and guidance. God had a purpose for it all – a place where He and mankind could meet.

He will take our failures, or exhibits of our captivity and destruction etc. and use those things we are ashamed of … TO BRING GLORY TO HIMSELF. Just follow the Holy Spirit’s prompts. JESUS IS A ‘BEAUTY FOR ASHES’ SAVIOUR! Those seemingly disastrous things become the places where our faith leads us on into further, deeper trust.

“For Yahweh is always good and ready to receive you. He’s so loving that it will amaze you— so kind that it will astound you! And He is famous for His faithfulness toward all. Everyone knows our God can be trusted, for He keeps His promises to every generation!” Psalms 100:5 TPT

Those scars that are still on Jesus’ body are not marks of shame —they are marks of redemption. Our whole bible is a redemption story. The whale in Jonah, and the ram provided for Abraham, show us He will do whatever it takes to bring about His purposes. Naomi and Ruth show us nothing is irredeemable. That tent of meeting shows us He will give us favour, but He has a kingdom purpose for that favour.

All these things reveal His character to us. Our job in the face of defeat, despair and suffering is to not faint but to use any and all opportunities to learn TRUST. Love the bible – in its pages are incredible redemption stories. 👋🏻

P 2302 Jesus is wholehearted.

By that I mean that He is not half-hearted about anything, and He is especially passionate about us. So much so ‘that Jesus ever lives to intercede for us.’ The bible also says this about our Heavenly Father:  “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with Whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.”James 1:17 He is Who He says He is – He can’t be any other way – HIS LOVING NATURE IS FIXED.

Our God does not have any secret unpleasant agendas. He is not hiding behind some curtain or or in some doorway waiting to jump out and say: ‘AHA! I’ve got you now. I caught you! I’ve got you dead to rights!’  Fat chance. That is just not Who He is. Even though the bible tells us ‘that Jesus Himself knew what was in the hearts of men’ – YET – He still chose to come and save us all anyway!

So when Christ tells us to:“… love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”Luke 6:35 NIV.

— we can instantly see that He is not just whistling ‘Dixie.’ He means what He says, because He did it first … That means it can be done …! Jesus was a human being just like us – He simply lived His life connected to the Holy Spirit. He was surrounded by people who misunderstood Him and hated Him … unto death. And some of them were His friends!! He knows about cost personally, and in order for us to effectively follow Him, we will have to go down the same roads of total surrender and relinquishment He walked down.

It is imperative that we remember that Father God did not spare His only Son, Jesus Christ. So all the whinging, whining, squalling, complaining and bawling we can turn on, will not exempt us from trial and trouble. By all means ‘ask and keep on asking’ etc. but remember that our goals may seem godly to us, but they can also be self-serving… all at the same time! Pruning away stuff in our lives we don’t need is painful — however purifying our motivations can be revolutionary and revelatory. At the same time we need to cultivate a firm trust in Him and act according to His Word. We cannot afford to give in to inactivity and doubt.

Doubt, you will remember, leads to double-mindedness. Thoughts like: ’Is this God? IF He’s a good God, why would  He hurt me?’  Our feelings and logic cannot be trusted when it comes to knowing God. What does His BOOK say? We need more than a passing acquaintance with the bible. At any unclear moment I ask for WISDOM. “ If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5. It’s hardly rocket science. 😶 Unfortunately we can’t expect to follow Him without bumping in to our own unredeemed selves, as well as other people’s agendas… therein lies most of our conflicts.

There have been times in my life when Father God has surprised me with ‘more than I had ever hoped or dreamed’ and other times when He does something so wonderfully and gloriously sneaky, I have no words left. I usually get the giggles instead. Because He has not just surprised me – He has delighted me as well. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the LORD and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

Pastor Chuck Swindoll says this: ‘God is full of surprises. But it takes a sensitive spirit to see them, to be jolted by them. Too many Christians are lulled into languor. Some can warble all the Christian songs, recite all the right Bible verses, and quote this preacher and that teacher, but their Christian lives, down deep inside, are jaded. Are you in that condition? When that happens, you become calloused and insensitive, and you’re in for a life of boredom and mediocrity. How tragic for that to happen! The walk of faith is designed to be a walk of adventure, filled with periodic and delightful surprises.’

My sentiments exactly. Jesus is passionate – that’s what we are aiming at too.  Bye.👋🏻

P 2292 Disposing of myths…

There was a theory in Christianity like 30-40 years ago that ‘what you say is what you get.’  I’ve found that human beings are fascinating … we are always looking for the easy way, or the soft touch or an escape clause etc. etc. But actually I think we have all gone a bit soft. Not in the head, mind you, but emotionally speaking. When things get tough … sadly, ’the tough don’t get going’ … They are far more likely to squawk and complain their heads off and drive their poor pastor nuts.

God is not obliged to answer our prayers, He always hears us – but we are now living under His Grace. We can ASK – but then we trust. Unfortunately, I think we’ve become way too used to outsourcing our problems instead of getting alone with God and working things out with Him.

I can remember, years ago, way back in the Ark – metaphorically speaking – after some huge difficulty or other, crying my eyes bloodshot. I was surrounded by piles of soggy tissues, and I explained to God that I just couldn’t take any more, and could He please feel sorry for me and come and help me out of the mess I had somehow manage to get into? You know, I really don’t have experiences, or hear an audible voice – I’m a plodder… one foot after the other kind of thing … This one time I actually heard HIM LAUGH!

Well that was a tad discouraging! So I said so. But that didn’t seem to make a lot of difference. His reply was even more discouraging… “You don’t know what YOU can do,” He said. You know, He was right!  I’ve learnt the Lord God maker of heaven and earth – always IS. Since then I have been through far worse things, still crying, complaining and filling up our oceans and landfill with even more tissues. But I survived. Despite my heart and mind telling me I couldn’t possibly live through this kind of pain … I DID!

“But the love of God will be perfected within the one who obeys God’s Word. We can be sure that we’ve truly come to live in intimacy with God, not just by saying, “I am intimate with God,” but by walking in the footsteps of Jesus.” 1 John 2:5-6 TPT.

As you can see, it isn’t, what you say is what you get … it’s what you get – YOU GET! 🤔 And then comes the joy of learning to live with whatever the problem is, while you are trying to grow through it, and at the same time straining forward to follow Jesus. That’s the real rubber, hitting the real road – impacting lives. I wish I could tell you after all these years that I have learnt the magic formula to managing hard things but … NOPE!!  However, I have learnt to give UP much quicker … but then again, that could be old age. Are you cheered up yet? 😂

Here’s my genuine advice. Go into His book and look for a reality rush. Try reading Hebrews 11. Particularly V13. “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” So are any of us better than Abraham or the guys in this list? No! Jesus Himself said:’In this life you will have trials … but cheer up, I have overcome the world.’ John 16:33.

Unrealistic expectations have killed off more faith than any of us will ever understand this side of heaven. Our faith must always be in God’s goodness, not in answers. Answers are simply the result of the outworking of His plans for all of us. We restrict the Lord when we try to explain or interpret His ways with our finite minds. We will always need the Holy Spirit to help us. ALWAYS! Otherwise we will start reducing Almighty God to SomeOne after our own image … and that is not good at all!

What we say is definitely not always what we get – Father God always gives better than we ever imagined… in His timing. His timing is different from what we asked for or hoped, or thought, but it is always perfect. Let’s let God be God and we’ll just be us!  Deuteronomy 32:4 (KJV) “He is the Rock, His work is perfect: For all His ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, Just and right is He.” And that is definitely worth thinking about. 👋🏻

P 2287 Trust.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

Trust is an amazing thing, it undergirds faith. Any building that has no strong foundation is doomed to fall. Those amazing skyscrapers that tower over us in our cities start from an absolutely huge hole in the ground. The bigger the building the deeper and more complex the foundations are. Trust is the foundation of everything else we learn from Him. Everything else is like a multi-storey building which is seen by other people;  but the stabiliser, the thing that keeps us strong when storms come, is trust.

Even faith is built on trust. If you have trouble with your faith, then my suggestion is perhaps you have trust issues, and maybe you and the Holy Spirit can spend some time in the Word praying over it. Even the love we receive from God Himself, however we receive it, is based on trust and our personal decisions and choices about the authenticity of His WORD.

Unfortunately, we learn to trust, or to not trust, as the case may be, almost from infancy. You can see this when a loving Father throws his toddler up in the air and he catches them. That child is not afraid. At the front of my mind and heart is always the thought that: ‘“HE knows the way I should take …” Jesus talked a lot about His death toward the end of His ministry. He was preparing the disciples for what came next, even though the thought was distasteful for them. But, after His death, because their trust in Him was not yet deep enough, they did not appear to cling to what He had already told them. Rather they clung to each other like frightened children.

So words alone sometimes do not produce trust – we need the Presence of the Holy Spirit. How do we deepen our trust in God in a way that will lead to a firm trust foundation? We make friends with the Holy Spirit, and we study His ways. Plus we deliberately pay attention to the things He does. This means living our lives watching out for, and appreciating even the seemingly smallest miracles of protection and provision in our lives, helps trust grow.

Secondly, and this almost sounds like an oxymoron (!) – to learn trust you have to take risks. Taking risks is the last thing you want to do when you have trust issues. But it is a sure way to deepen and strengthen your foundations. If your trust has been abused by people, then I recommend doing a character study about Father God’s totally reliable character.

At the same time there is nothing like trusting the Holy Spirit and speaking to someone about your own faith, when inwardly you are feeling afraid. Using your faith in these moments gives us an opportunity to experience God’s grace in action. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee.”  When the person we are speaking to cracks open like an egg, and we can see their heart, then we know whatever we heard from the Holy Spirit was accurate and He is there with us!

I believe most Christians nowadays do not have the sort of abiding trust we are going to need in the difficult days that lie in front of us. The saints of old had a tangible trust that Almighty God always knew exactly what He was doing. However, today’s generations think way too much of what they think they know, and not enough about what He says, in the book! I urge everyone reading here today to stop playing it safe, and relying on their own understanding, and start following our Mighty GOD as He is described in His book! This is one of the finest ways I know to get to know Him intimately. Bye 👋🏻.

P 2272 The Lord will fight for you.

Exodus 14:13&14  “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

These verses from Exodus 14 talk about the sort of commitment the Lord has toward our own personal situations. The Israelites are our illustration. They have escaped from Pharaoh and now he is in pursuit, so they complained at Moses and told him to reorganise God because they didn’t like their current circumstances. 😳

First of all I think their responses are quite normal for a people who have no real faith – or for anyone whose God is a concept and not a reality. The very essence of the story of the Israelites and the Promised Land is they were constantly wanting God to prove Himself to them. These people had grown up on the stories about how they came to be in Egypt in the first place. They called Abraham their father, yet none of what they had learnt and memorised was a comfort to them.

They did what many of us do, they thought following the chosen leader was going to be enough and while they were being delivered, God was brilliant, He was wonderful, let’s all sing and have happy dances together. 🥳 Have a party. But at the first sign of trouble because their faith had no root, they were like the stuff you see blowing around in Western movies … tumbleweed.

In the ninth and tenth plagues, it was obvious that God was making an exception for them, it was pitch black for the Egyptians when it was broad daylight for the Israelites. The Egyptian firstborn died and theirs didn’t. It was made clear to these people, by signs and wonders, that God was on their side. He had a purpose in mind, and He was going to perform it. Sometimes we can think if we can only see a miracle, if only something spectacular changed, then it could increase our faith. That doesn’t seem to have worked out very well for these people! Here in these 2 verses, God is promising to fight for them but the fear in their hearts was greater than anything He said.

The truth is, seeing the miraculous and the extraordinary can be a wonderful way to boost your faith, but only if you have a mustard seed of faith inside you in the first place! Faith doesn’t fall on us from the outside, it’s our hearts that need to be changed – we need to learn to trust Him, no matter what. These people’s hearts need to be softened toward Almighty God. It is all too easy to be crazy about Jesus when we first meet Him, but then the trials and tribulations of this life erode that faith to a point where we almost become skeptical, hardened against the very God we profess to love.

Sometimes bad things happen, so we pray, we get other people praying, we find a bunch of scriptures that express our needs and hold them up to heaven, but the real problem is inside us. Our faith is not strong and steady. HE wants us to grow in our own personal knowledge of how much He cares for us. But we just want the pain to go away, or we need a rest, and we need an answer. Every unmet disappointment, every time our hope is deferred, our heart gets sicker and sicker.

I believe God fights for us all the time and most of the time we don’t see Him at work because the only answer that is acceptable to us is: ‘I need this fixed, I need it right here and right now.’  One of the best ways to pray is also the hardest – ‘Thy kingdom come Thy will be done ‘ etc. ‘and please give me the strength and courage to wait for YOUR answer.’ Yet despite what the Israelites felt and thought, God’s plans for them never changed, they simply needed to learn to TRUST HIM! He was always there, sometimes working out of their view, paving a way into a new life for them. A glorious revelation of Himself.

Christ in us IS the hope of glory. The way to make our faith deeper isn’t always to be snatched out of problems, the way to make our faith deeper is to exercise it when it looks like there is no hope. Hanging onto the fact that He is good! Our faith should always be in Him. Who He is – not what He does.

“I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.” Philippians 4:12-13 TPT

P 2269 We need to use our faith to access His Grace.

Think of Grace as a huge endless heavenly container that has all the provision you will ever need to access in this life for anything you need to do. It is limitless. It is time to rely upon His boundless Grace to change our ways of thinking being and doing instead of misusing it as an escape clause to remain the same not change. We can’t see it, BUT … it’s in the book! Having faith is about trusting God to be true to His Word.

At the immediate point of impact when somebody says or does something that hurts or irritates us … we need to take a breath and ask the Lord for help. It’s a choice. It’s a hard choice because we are used to making decisions without referring to anything else other than what we know. Or maybe in desperation, we try to make scriptures back up what we want. Faith is about Who HE is – can we trust Him to work everything together for good, even in our bad moments?

Think of it this way God knows the way through anything we come up against, no matter what difficulty we are in. This is why we need His help, to put this Grace that is so readily available in our time of need, into action. In Exodus the Israelites could not go into the promised land because  it was in signs and wonders and provision. We need to change our focus. Our faith needs to be in Him, in the One who did everything for us.

We don’t have to feel ashamed of being inadequate in the face of trials and tribulations. Our GOD loves to help and protect us. The more we use our faith to access His grace the more our faith will grow. Faith is not just the thing we drag out when the sky has fallen on us, or something bad has happened. If we live that way then we could easily find that our faith muscle will atrophy, and we have no faith strength to make it through whatever it is that confronts us.

The Lord Himself told us to live by faith. Living by faith means it’s a day by day thing, sometimes minute by minute. The only way to strengthen this kind of Living interactive  faith is to continually use it. Unfortunately we are way too used to relying upon our own understanding and strength so we automatically do some things out of habit or personal ability.

This means we are living our lives acknowledging the power of God but not using it. It is no wonder that faith fails to uphold us, when it is the emergency spare. To live by faith means we live by our confidence in the power of His Word, from His book. Because we have become so used to referring to what we know, and going on with that –  this will mean praying without ceasing, sometimes.

Not the sort of prayers that we sometimes use and try to hope in …these honest sorts of prayers … like help Lord or I need You, Lord. Heart prayers, not just pretty prayers we hope the Lord will accept. He already permanently accepted us, forever. In our efforts to be reverent and to pray the sorts of prayers we think God wants to hear, we’ve lost the ability to communicate with Him in every day language that comes  truthfully from our hearts. He’s our reference point, which means He knows what we need before we do! Believing in His goodness, and acting upon that thought in mind, means we are moving in faith.

This does not mean that we run around like loose cannons blaming our mistakes on the Lord, and taking credit for the victories. It’s an attitude of heart that says ‘I can’t do anything without You’ Jesus. We do not lose our independence by force, rather we surrender in favour of His great great wisdom and insight. I often find myself praying what do I do here Lord?

True freedom exists when you have the freedom to make a choice. Automatic responses are not choices either. They are a reflex action. Sometimes we do things ourselves because it seems quicker than leaning on Him. The more we practice leaning on Him – using our faith, the more it becomes the way we think. That’s called renewing our minds. Do you think Jesus was ever so distracted by His circumstances, or whatever was going on around Him that He forgot about His Father or the Holy Spirit? He started from what God said and went from there. He was still Himself, but He was Himself with the benefit of the Father’s wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s applications.

Using our faith is an investment in our relationship with Him and whatever ministry He has for us. Faith needs to be like sneezing or sitting down … a part of life. Remember we must never be afraid of getting it wrong, Jesus redeemed everything but He cannot redeem our inertia! Grace is accessed by faith, no matter how wobbly that faith seems to be to us. Let’s live our lives believing the bible is true. He said He did it, so it’s done. Bye 👋🏻

P 2252 Trust is more than a word!

Genesis 15:6 “Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.” I think this is one of the most important verses in the Old Testament.  Paul says this about Abraham in Galatians 3:6-9 TPT:“Abraham, our father of faith, believed God, and the substance of his faith released God’s righteousness to him. So the true children of Abraham have the same faith as their father! And the Scripture prophesied that on the basis of faith God would declare Gentiles to be righteous. God announced the good news ahead of time to Abraham: ““Through your example of faith, all the nations will be blessed!” And so the blessing of Abraham’s faith is now our blessing too!”

Abraham’s example of faith and trust is an illustration of our new place of freedom in Christ. We accept that what Christ did for us, was complete. Being subject or powerless to avoid any kind of sin is living in slavery!  Christ set us free to choose to follow Him and the Holy Spirit leads us into a new way to live. Just like Abraham chose to follow God to a new land – we choose to follow Christ into our eternal destination – living in His kingdom right here, right now. We use our faith to live this life differently, as the Holy Spirit leads us.

Abraham’s decision to follow God’s instructions, implicitly, even to the point of sacrificing his only son, Isaac, shows us the focus of this man’s heart. He utterly trusted God. In conversation with Isaac about where they would find a lamb for the sacrifice – Abraham said this: “…“God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”And the two of them went on together.” That was a faith statement and it also pointed toward Christ, 4,000 years later! Jesus is our Lamb of provision – He is our way out of serving sin… His Spirit leads us into serving God.

We need to actively learn, day by day, to trust our God … and that means we will do some dying to self along the way! To live in Christ’s freedom means we leave our old life behind, and we use our faith to live the life that God has prepared for us. Sin is not our main focus – what He wants for our lives is. We know that God Himself has provided the sacrifice for our sin, just like He did, on Mount Moriah, with Abraham and Isaac. So we press on, following in the footsteps of Christ, denying ourselves the things we want, in favour of the things HE wants. We’ve decided, once and for all, that what He said He did, He did. It’s finished. It’s done.

Now it is our responsibility to live our lives, every single day, for love’s sake. Because of our devotion and allegiance to Jesus we accept that the things that happen to us, around us, and in us, are opportunities for change. That change consists of finding out what Jesus wants us to do in any kind of situation, for His kingdom to come. That’s the way we live now – we choose Him. He chose us, and now we choose Him right back.

Sometimes that may mean that our days pass uneventfully, but those are the days that we need to stay focussed. Because we’ve learnt, that when we least expect it, we are going to need our faith … in the heat of sudden battle. We’ve learnt that our faith is developed by the everyday choices we make. It is strengthened every time we use it. Our faith will be tested, just like it was for Abraham! And he is called the father of our faith – he did it first. This is why we need to practice letting go of what we want, and learn to trust God instead. True freedom comes when we live in that trust because we are not driven about by our own sinful desires.

However, there is no real working faith if we simply let life happen to us. Instead we need to purpose in our hearts to rely upon God’s Grace to only do those things we need to do – and some of those things will involve sacrifices. That is part of our new life, our commitment to Christ. We cannot serve our God part-time or half-heartedly. We will end up disappointed and we will miss out on the freedom Christ died to give us. As Christians we need to pay attention to developing our trust in His ways. 👋🏻

Titus 2:11-12,14.“God’s marvellous grace has manifested in person, bringing salvation for everyone. This same grace teaches us how to live each day as we turn our backs on ungodliness and indulgent lifestyles, and it equips us to live self-controlled, upright, godly lives in this present age.”…  … “He sacrificed Himself for us that He might purchase our freedom from every lawless deed and to purify for Himself a people who are His very own, passionate to do what is beautiful in His eyes.”

P 2226 Jesus helps me to keep going.

When I sit and read about the Lord, and think about what He did while He was on this earth, and how HE struggled with facing His own death – it helps me to keep going every day. First of all, let’s look at the fact that the Lord needed to pray 3 times in the garden of Gethsemane. He needed to pray what He was facing through, and He waited on God for the spiritual strength to carry it all out. Jesus prayed until He knew the job was already done – spiritually speaking. His total surrender, in those awful moments, gave Him the power to endure what came next. He died to Himself in that garden and it was a terrible battle.

This scene shows me that it is OK to struggle with spiritual stuff – it doesn’t mean I’ve missed His will, or I am going the wrong way. When things are hard to do – we need to press into Him. Jesus spoke a great deal about His death in the days before the crucifixion, so He already knew this time was coming. Yet He still prayed for that destiny to be taken away! He struggled with God’s Will. Praise the Lord, because Jesus is my visible illustration of God’s Will in action! It’s OK to struggle – remember to surrender and then go into trust. Push on past your fears etc.

Let’s look at this in Matthew 26: 38-46 …“Then He (Jesus) said to them, (His disciples) “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” Then He returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with Me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

“He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may Your will be done.” When He came back, He again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So He left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners…”

Jesus allowed Himself to feel the total appalling impact of what was coming toward Him. He didn’t hide from it, or  have a stiff-upper-lip mentality, nor did He deny the reality of what He was facing. It’s OK to hurt, it is OK to be disappointed or even grieve about whatever has happened to us. But, at the same time, we need to remember that we have HOPE – His Name is Jesus … He is our anchor. If someone you love is suffering then pray that God will give them real HOPE in the face of adversity.

Jesus was very hurt with His disciples, for not praying with Him. I think He was also disappointed for their sake. Getting in touch with God in a crisis is the only way to get through whatever is coming next. The biggest test those men had ever faced was hurtling toward them… and they were vastly under-prepared for it. He was still caring for them on the brink of His own pain, suffering and death.

Lastly, the Lord Jesus helps us to have courage because He did everything He did for all of us. Our failures, fears, sicknesses, disappointments, sins, those things were all dealt with as He struggled with the concept of being a substitute for us. He was about to be separated from God’s bright Presence and He did that deliberately for our sake. He became our separation so we don’t ever have to be, or go anywhere without God’s Presence again!

In times of despair difficulty and trial – I think of the Lord Jesus saying, with such incredible faith: “… Your will be done.” That was a faith statement. Christ had never physically suffered to the point of His own death and He had to rely upon the Holy Spirit to bring Him out of that grave. Jesus knows how hard it is to have faith in times of crisis. His vulnerability at that time helps me keep going when stuff happens in my life.  Praise Him. 👋🏻
