P 3473 Have extra-fit faith!

“We can get so busy looking at the waves that we forget to look at Jesus!” My daughter said that to me the other day, and I thought it was so accurate. Having faith that works matters. Otherwise, when the roof falls in … and nowadays the roof can quite literally fall in on anyone … that’s when we hit despair and start spiralling down. Our faith resources can be depleted by everyday difficulties, and we become disappointed and disillusioned because our faith is not in God … it is in what He is supposed to supply.

That’s when those waves start looming and we start sinking – because we are looking in the wrong place. Our faith is not in walking on water, or getting whatever we need — our faith needs to be in Jesus’ ability and His willingness to help us. We can nearly drown if we don’t prayerfully assess how fit our faith is for the mountain we are facing, or if we try to do whatever it is without our eyes on Him.

We can totally miss what Father God wants to give us, when we take our eyes off Him. When Jesus said “COME!” — it was the whackiest idea any of the disciples had seen thus far. But Peter was so enamoured by the miracle of Jesus on the water … that he wanted to do it. Jesus could have said: “Your faith isn’t up to this Peter” — because it clearly wasn’t — and Peter and 11 other men would have missed out on seeing what faith in action does. IT TAKES A RISK. God won’t stop you or I from trying, just remember to ask Him if you are up to the answer to that prayer you keep on praying. If the answer is ‘no’ or ‘not yet’ then ask Him to help get you fit for it.

A number of years ago the Holy Spirit told me to learn to lean on Jesus and not on my own understanding. I think Peter failed because he knew more about the ways of the wind and the waves, than he knew about the power of God! It is so easy to be distracted by the things we think we already know. We end up making those things our yardstick and fail to remember that God’s ways are higher, more sure, more reliable than ours.

At one time, Jesus made wine out of water … BUT WE make wine out of a whole lot of effort! We can get so distracted as we think about how a miracle will help us, that we fail to realise that faith grows as you exercise it. Our faith may only be little (a mustard seed) – but it must be IN HIM, and not just in the answer to our prayer. Peter wanted to do what Jesus was doing to prove that it was really the Lord. “Lord, if it’s You,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to You on the water.” His faith was not engaged in God’s matters, it was engaged in proving something.

Our faith is designed to grow as we stretch it daily. We can’t live an ordinary life doing what we want, and expect to grow miracle-working faith! Our enemy will fool us into thinking we are failing in our faith, because some things don’t turn out the way we prayed they would. But the truth is, are we learning to lean on Him, or are we still independently minded? Will we trust God more the next time, or less? Human beings like to categorise things – God has a WAY, not just a category. We need to know His Ways.

Peter had faith. He climbed out of that boat … against years of personal knowledge and experience. I think He simply needed the Holy Spirit’s input to put his faith into action and keep it there. This man didn’t just take His eyes off Jesus, he transferred his faith to what he could see and what he already knew. The task was bigger than his faith, and his personal knowledge about where he was standing, overcame him.

Getting extra fit faith is not the same as spending a fortune on gym membership and regularly going there to build up your strength. That’s all about what you can do. It’s the wrong direction for eyes of faith. Eyes of faith look at Jesus not our puny muscles. Let’s look carefully at what He said and did: “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God ..” Romans 10:17. Our faith grows as we get to know Him through His Word.

We must stop trying to manoeuvre God into doing this and that, and become intimately acquainted with what He wants and what He doesn’t. The faith to move a mountain starts and is strengthened by knowing the One Who made that mountain, not by looking at bulldozers and explosives or how high, wide or deep that mountain is!

We learn to exercise our faith by living daily for Jesus. When things are easy, and the water of our lives is still and steady … OR when this life is riotous and the water looks like a washing machine in full cycle. When hard things happen, let’s pray – give it to the Lord and wait for further instructions. If that takes time, then we relinquish it and walk away, and leave it with Him. Safe in the knowledge that we are merely spectators, not the main event.

Having extra fit faith means everything we do revolves around that faith. We hold nothing back because Jesus held nothing back. If Jesus wouldn’t do it, then we won’t do it either. Faith is the substance of Jesus Himself, kissing our prayers, as we choose to learn to daily trust Him with our whole life. Bye. 👋

P 3372 His Kingdom matters.

“We pray that you’ll live well for the Master, making Him proud of you as you work hard in His orchard. As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work. We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father Who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that He has for us.” Colossians 1:11,12.

I’m a container, you are a container … all of God’s children are containers! Jesus is our example, our illustration, of the way the these ‘containers’ of ours are meant to work. We are here to distribute His kingdom wherever we go. And the Holy Spirit is God’s Personal Envoy sent into our lives to reveal to us what He wants from us. The bible is a book about God, written by God, for people. It’s both a treasure, and an adventure. Let’s take the time to discover what’s inside it! Otherwise we will waste a whole lot of time and effort doing the things that won’t last.

Our God lives in eternity and He understands eternal things … and … we don’t. Our imagination in these areas is incredibly limited, it can get in our way. Some people imagine heaven, or the kingdom of God, as a place where everyone walks around in long nighties, smiling and laughing  – with pretty flowers, all kinds of tame animals, and everyone is happy and has lots of peace – all the time. That may all be true, I haven’t checked it out yet! I’m still here! However, Jesus took the time to teach us over and over again about the way the kingdom of God looks, and … He didn’t once talk about nighties, animals that talk, or rainbows everywhere. That sounds more like “My little Pony” or “Care Bears” to me!

In reality, I believe the kingdom of God is explosive 💣! It can bring about the best in mankind – or the worst. When we meet it we can’t ignore it. God’s kingdom challenges our ideas and it transforms difficult serious matters with just one shard of His wisdom. His kingdom is so vast, yet also unexpectedly available, that you and I can usher it in down here on earth, by simply praying:  (“Your kingdom come …”!!)

The bible says God’s kingdom is like a number of things:  a mustard seed, yeast in dough, hidden treasure, a pearl of great price. It grows, and you discover it and give up everything for it. Yet nobody knows how this happens. Personally I think it is our God’s rule and reign everywhere, and if the Holy Spirit is given His freedom, God’s kingdom will manifest itself. It can be within us now, here today … where you are … But it is also still to come.

Life in God’s kingdom seems to be the opposite of what we know. It is the right side up version of everything we do on earth. We can introduce others to it, and its way of life, and those people will be transformed as they learn to live their lives FROM that kingdom! People grow and become who God destined them to be.

Let’s look at Mark 1:14–15 “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” God’s kingdom comes near when someone’s heart softens and they are repentant. Then that person turns their back on sin and turns toward the God Who made them. His kingdom is furthered by our obedience, and it produces – by itself — heaven-sent qualities. The word ‘Love’ means something in this world today, that it does not mean in our Heavenly Father’s kingdom! In His kingdom, love means sacrifice.

The book of Revelation gives us clues as to what is of primary importance in God’s kingdom. Our Almighty, Eternal, Omnipotent, Omnipresent Father IS! Ordinary men and women can’t even stand up because of His glory. Meanwhile, how blessed we are to know a God Who is so incredible, and yet He wants to know and love us personally? We were made for His Kingdom to flourish and prosper inside us, because His kingdom flows from our inside – OUT. We can’t pretend that kind of stuff, other people will be able to easily sink our own self-efforts. His kingdom is other-centred, with Jesus as our reason for all we do.

We show our Beloved Saviour how much we love Him as we worship with our whole being, not just by singing or praising Him. When we willingly obey Him, we choose to live grateful lives that are laid at His feet, for His kingdom to come in the lives of many others. Everything that happens to us here on earth, is linked to His kingdom coming in our lives. That grumpy mother-in-law is … preparation. That job you hate is … preparation. Your kids’ ingratitude – preparation. The people who actively hate you – are even more preparation!

We need to do more than learn about His kingdom, we need to actively participate in it because that’s when we will carry His kingdom with us. When we host the King, we host His kingdom! So, in this life, we deliberately choose to ‘go and seek His kingdom out.’ This world is our testing ground. Will we trust what Jesus said or not? It is foolish to act like we have other options, or that we have more time tomorrow. We have no control over time. I urge you to chase His kingdom, and seek it first. Bye. 👋

P 2987 Tell someone what’s good about them.

“So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise Him all over again. Yes, He is my saving grace!”Psalms 42:11 TPT. Critics often spring up all around us like field mushrooms, but an encouraging soul is a joy to those who live with them.

I have the above thought from Psalm 42, practically every single morning. Actually I think I have had it for a little bit more than 8 years! Daily I sit and stare at a blank page in ApplePages and wonder – what on earth I am going to write this time? My hubby often sends me scriptures that have spoken to him that day, and they inspire me into the flow of what God wants me to say. But sometimes I just have to tell my soul to “cheer up and get going!”

I think talking to our soul when we are under stress or strain is good for us. It establishes Ownership at a moment of great vulnerability. Psalm 42:11 says that like this in the KJV:“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”The Psalmist instructs his soul to turn away from despair and focus on God’s goodness and help. In other words, He’s talking to his own soul and telling it what to do. This is a fantastic thing to do, my spirit is the boss of my soul.

For me, the “hope in God” prayer is right up there with the “help” prayer…It sits right next to the: “I’m in pain and it is awful” prayer. I also have often prayed a prayer that says: “God can do anything.” I hold fast to that one too, and sometimes I throw in: “You can get me through this Lord.” But there are times when all I can do is to mumble: “God You are good.” I’d love to tell you that after praying these prayers the pain or hardship just melts away … but it doesn’t. Praying like that simply pulls my focus back onto Him and reminds me that I am no longer my own, SomeBody bought and paid for me!

Then I start to remember that Jesus suffered too, and He has always been utterly righteous, and He did not deserve what happened to Him. The Lord bore it all bravely, mostly in silence. There are definitely days when  I pray to be more like that! Faith to me, is utterly relying upon the Holy Spirit to get me out of whatever mess I have fallen into – whether it is pain or some dumb thing I have said or done. The truth is, I can’t live without Him and His wonderful guidance and help. At the same time I want to say that I’ve noticed that there can be some time between this kind of prayer and the answer, but it gets answered!

Like you, I fight discouragement a lot. Personally, I think it runs riot in our streets. And the news does not help me with it either. To be absolutely honest with you, I’ve discovered that very few Christians are often encouraging — and encouragement from our brothers and sisters is like a service station we pull into when we are running out of love. (Petrol!) Today I just want to briefly touch on what encouragement looks like. I have a dear friend and whenever she encourages me, she is specific. She says things like this: “when you said or did this, or that, I was helped by it.” Specific encouragement is like putting the highest grade petrol into someone’s tank — it gives them a whole lot more ‘go!’

Encouragement is not flattery. Actually flattery is about gaining something for yourself. It happens when someone says nice things to another person for their own purposes. However, encouragement enables the other person to get up again, and go on. This kind of encouragement has no gain, except to benefit the other person. It is a spiritual impartation of courage toward someone else, with no gain except that you want to see that other person receive hope again. It assists the person who has fallen over and needs to be lifted up, so they can believe that God is for them. We all limp, and fall down. And we all need help to stand up again!

So there are two kinds of encouragement, one from someone on the outside of our inner life, and the one that we deliberately choose to give ourselves when we need it. Learning to encourage yourself in the Lord is a worthy occupation. Like everything else we do, it takes faith that God will not only hear us, but He will help us in our time of need. The wonderful thing about our faith is that we only need a mustard seed of it to access the kingdom of God!

God knows whatever source we need, whether it is self-encouragement, by speaking to our souls, or external encouragement from our brothers and sisters. And in my experience, sometimes we need both! Encouragement is listed as a spiritual gift in Romans 12:8. But we are all instructed to do it in 1 Thessalonians 5:11. “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

So keep up the good work and keep asking for His inspiration to encourage others. This road can be long and hard and we all need help along the way. Tell someone what’s good about them! And don’t forget, we can always speak to our own soul too. Bye. 👋

P 2969 Hope maintenance.

“Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for His miraculous power constantly energises you. Now we offer up to God all the glorious praise that rises from every church in every generation through Jesus Christ—and all that will yet be manifest through time and eternity. Amen!”Ephesians 3:20-21 TPT. Jesus is our steadfast anchor and hope, and the bible is hope’s back-up and proof that what we know is true. Finally, our praise and prayers mirror what we hope for!

You and I need to take the time to protect our own hope. We can’t always just jump in and start out with faith, because our faith can be weakened by circumstances, emotions and trouble. Christ’s birth, life, and death have established HOPE on the earth, permanently.”To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.“ Colossians 1:27.This is not a transitory thing, it is an eternal thing. It is an established, firm, foundational fact. We cling to His incredible goodness. Faith will spring up in us, as we continually maintain our hope in Who He is and what He did for us.

We need to remind ourselves about what the Bible says, instead of focussing on what is going on around us or inside us. We ask the Holy Spirit to remind us of the incredible things the Lord has already done in our lives that are good, filled with hope, grace and truth. Verses like those two above, are so helpful, they remind us that God has dominion over everything else that is going on, and He doesn’t just want to answer our prayers — He wants to bless us while He is doing it! He has our best interests firmly established in His heart.

Here is another well known verse that show us ‘hope’s purpose.’“May Your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in You.” Psalm 33:22. Our hope is an investment in God’s greatness, not in our ability to believe! There are times when we hope for things that are bigger than our faith seems to be. However, God is always good, He will get us there, He will turn our hearts toward Him! Just be honest with Him and ask for His help. When we asked Jesus to save us He made our heart His home. We could be bad at living like that is a reality, or good at it, none of that makes any difference at all to HIS goodness.

Things happen all the time in this life, stuff like —- a loved one is desperately sick, or the job we want to be available isn’t. Maybe we need somewhere safe to live. Of course we pray about such desperate things, but our hope needs to be in WHO He is, not just the answer to our prayers. If our hope is in the answer to our prayers then our hopes can be shattered if things don’t turn out the way we think they should. We must start with the known, the reality, the substance of Who Jesus is — His character, and His attitude toward people like me, we are the people He loves. All of that is in the bible.

Sometimes we desperately hope for things that are beyond our immediate scope of belief. Pray and ask Him to walk you through your failing hope and faith, until you are again standing on His goodness. Things like these are a place for us to continue to stretch our faith IN HIM. Here is an example: it is one thing to believe God can get you to work on time when the trains are late — and totally another to believe He can heal someone who is severely depressed! He can! But we can drive ourselves batty struggling and striving to stretch our hope and make our faith into something it isn’t … yet. When you find a weak place, let Him be your strength.

You and I might have a mustard seed size of faith, and still grow a big tree that will shelter others. The important factor in that sentence is time. We never arrive, we are always in transit in this life – that’s part of the adventure. We need to invest our hope in His goodness, like we invest in breathing or having enough water — not in our ability, or inability to pray. Let His goodness be a fixed point. Then hope will not disappoint you. HE never changes. But our ability to hope in Him answering our prayers might easily be swayed or changed with adverse  circumstances.

That’s why our hope must be in Who He is. Our thoughts aren’t about things like – did He answer my prayer this week, last month, last year? Our prayer needs to be fixed to the only true fixed point – is Jesus God or not? Can God do anything or not? Anything else leaves us open to being knee-capped by the other guy when we get overwhelmed by whatever is going on. God is good. He gives good answers. No matter how things look now, He’s got this. He’s with you in what is going on. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.” Hebrews 11:1. We hang onto our hope in Him, until we hit faith and we return to the certainty of Who He is … now we have substance … we aren’t trying to push faith out, we know that we know Who He is.

Silence from heaven is never final … it means it is faith-stretching time – during that time we need to dig into our hope chest and remind ourselves of Who He is and what He has done for us. Hope maintenance facilitates growing and strengthening OUR faith. We stop using other people’s experiences to push us along, and start developing our own history, our own stories of His grace in action. Then we can’t be stopped. Remember:  “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12 . I believe that hoping in God’s goodness is the key that breathes life into overwhelmed struggling, sad hearts. Bye. 👋

P 2860 God will deal with it!

Sometimes we need to use our faith to deal with the blooming great rock that is in the middle of the pathway between us and what God asks us to do. And then we need to keep on walking forward in faith. Let’s look at Mark 16:2-4“Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.”

These dear women wanted to make sure that the Lord Jesus was buried reverently, according to their religious customs, so they woke up early and hurried to the tomb. They loved the Lord so much they wanted to minister to Him in this way – even though, in their minds – He was dead. The bible teaches us that Father God loves to surprise His passionate lovers!  On the way to His tomb the ladies suddenly realised that a whole lot of big soldiers had rolled a huge rock across the entrance, and these women had no hope of moving it. They showed their faith in God when they kept on walking toward the tomb!

When I read those words today, I thought of many past scenarios in my own life, where I had projected my own physical, mental and emotional inadequacies, into a situation and felt hopeless. Actually, those inadequacies had become the hypothetical large rock in my way … but those oppositional things didn’t exist in reality. My mind used logic to bring them up  It made me wonder how often we do that to the Lord – we start out in faith and end up in logic!

So here’s an illustration from my own life. There are times when the Lord says to us: “I want you to go to this city or that state.”  In my mind’s eye, I immediately eliminate the apparent rock of air travel, because of my disabilities. To start with, a two hour air trip takes us nearly 4 hours. We have to get on the plane long before anyone else, and we can’t get off until the people on the plane have been off-loaded, and they are on their way home! Waiting is not good for chronic fatigue. The result is like trying to drag a dead horse around.

Meanwhile our luggage is often the only bit left on the carousel, going round and round all alone. Poor little lonely suitcases!! 🤣  Plus we can’t afford to go on a plane because it is too expensive. If we were to allow even those two thoughts, (and there are loads more)to guide us, we are putting a (faithless) rock in our own path, and suddenly going by plane seems insurmountable. It just seems easier to go with our own understanding – which, means limited faith. This happened to us recently – and yes, we are going by plane!

Of course we would be foolish to ignore the fact that plane travel is a pain in the neck, that’s the rock-that-is-in-our-way and we know it is there, it was there the last time we looked! Yet we cannot live by the fear that we are inadequate and can’t move it, because the bible says: “The just shall LIVE by faith.” And fear and faith are completely incompatible. The thing I’ve noticed about fear is that it is a pesky little gnat, it slinks away to return at a moment’s notice! So here’s what I do:  as I walk along toward the blooming great rock that I know will be in the way of what I need to do … I give that obstacle and its removal to the Lord, every single time the thought of it harasses my mind and emotions. And I do that on repeat.

Sometimes, as I get near whatever mythical-rock-that-shall-not-be-moved-by-the-likes-of-ME — I begin to wonder what incredible thing God will do this time to fix the situation I find myself in. Thinking like that creates a sense of spiritual anticipation. David ran at Goliath, remembering that he had once killed a lion and bear with the Lord’s help, while he was minding sheep. I like that action. I like the idea of running at my enemy yelling and screaming: “God did it before and He will do it again.” Sometimes I even remind the other guy how dumb it is to get in the Lord’s way.

Yeah, . I tell my Saviour that if He really wants me to do what-ever-it-is, then this is His problem, and if that rock/hurdle is still there, then I am packing up the fight and I will go home. I remind the Lord that I am easy either way, going home, or pounding on a rock that I can’t move … but my mustard seed of faith is still in whatever HE is going to do next. I have even been known to say: “How are You going to get us out of this one Lord?”

I just want to say that at the same time during this process my emotions will be jumping up and down yelling: “Gotta find a solution NOW!” So I tell that stuff to shut up, in His Name. Whatever happens, I like to remind myself that one way or another our God will deal with that rock! And in the end, I get a brand new testimony of how wonderful He is! On that note, bye again for today. May God bless you!  👋

P 2848 Risky living.

To be a risk taker means that we choose to take hold of whatever courage we do have and use it. Jesus taught us that our faith needs to only be the size of a mustard seed – and a mustard seed as you can see, is a very little seed. ”For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20-21. I think a major flaw in the way we use our faith is we wait for some feelings, like confidence or assurance, to come first. And sometimes we need to work on our stinky attitude because that is the mountain we are currently facing! Risk takers put their feelings to one side and act on what the Lord told them to do regardless of the consequences.

A risk taker sees the bible as God’s instruction manual, complete with all sorts of interesting stories about Almighty God intervening in the lives of His kids. Take Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego … Meanwhile fancy calling your kid those names!! Teehee. Moving on … these three men’s faith changed the destiny of a king, and saved their lives. This is what they said to the king in Daniel 3:8:17-18 “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and He will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if He does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Right there … “even if He does not…”…  that’s the tip of the spear of their faith. They threw that faith spear into the heart of a King and it pinned him to the wall. Look at what comes next:  “Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” These three men and their collective faith changed that king’s attitude, he was watching to see if they had been delivered!  The power of their testimony overcame the enemy and they released their faith through what they said, then they let God be God. At the same time they got to walk around in that fiery furnace with Jesus … well, it says a fourth man … but I think it was Him! They came out of there not even smelling of SMOKE.

Hubby has this saying, I love/hate it. “If you want to see a miracle you are going to have to need a miracle first.”Think about what that means. I love what he says because it is true, I hate it because I like life to be easy. Therein lies the problem. We all want to see miracles without getting chucked into a fiery furnace! You know if you put gold into a furnace, all the impurities trapped within the gold, come to the top and you can skim them off. That action produces pure gold. The impurities can be seen clearly when the gold is fluid, they float to the surface.

We can see what is really going on in our hearts by our reaction to difficult, awkward, dangerous, unsettling  circumstances. Just like the process of gold refining – our anxieties, fears, short-comings, and lousy, cranky attitudes come to the surface under the pressure of opposition and trouble. What we often do in those times is to wait out the trouble, or try to deal with it, so we can get to the end of whatever is going on, and exit the problem and go back to ?normal?. Instead, as much as we are able, we should take note of our impurities and give them to Him, and ask Him to deal with them. And yes, I do know that is hard when you are going through stuff, but confession is good for us!

Jesus, our primary example of faith in action, did it too. The Lord said this in the garden of Gethsemane:“And after going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible [that is, consistent with Your will], let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39. He prayed the same kind of prayer that those three men prayed facing the furnace. Jesus exercised TRUST … to the death! Some people call this prayer the prayer of relinquishment. Actually, I pray it all the time. It is my “hands off” prayer. I give the situation to Him, like our three faith heroes did when faced with a fiery end, and then I leave the results to Him.

That is why today’s blog is called risky living.  I would like to acknowledge that my title is also the title of one of the great-books-I’ve-read. “Risky living” by Jamie Buckingham. He is one of my all time favourite authors. Sadly don’t go looking for this book, because all his books are now out of print. That book would benefit this generation heaps.

Dear Jamie is with the Lord now but I loved his writing because he was so honest about his failings and his humanity, as well as being crystal clear about how good God is … despite how dumb we are! God is faithful, as I said yesterday, He has given us people who are gifts! Jamie Buckingham was such a gift to me. He taught me that when I gave my life to Jesus, now my life is about furthering His kingdom. not my own.

Even my personal comfort is subject to His will. It is an important truth and we should choose to learn not to be tossed about by fiery trials. “Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.” 1 Peter 4:12 MSG. Bye, 👋.

“Praise be to the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.” Psalm 144:1.

P 2588 Can you tell me how I can hear God?

It’s like the telephone or the internet. First you need a connection! Jesus talked about that in John chapter 3 – He told Nicodemus …“you must be born again.”  This is not necessarily a feeling – it isa spiritual transaction. To hear God all the time, you need to give your life to Him. BTW, this is not a try now and buy later system. When you jump in, and surrender to Jesus Christ, you are all in – you can’t just dangle your feet in and hope that will do! This place is a place of decision and complete surrender. That means I have given away my life, my hopes, my dreams to Him.

It is a serious place. This decision is not just about whether you will spend your life in heaven one day or not. It is about here and NOW, because when we’ve made this decision, we want to become God’s kids. Now, we bring heaven with us wherever we go.  This process is described in Galatians 2:20. NIV. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

The minute I gave my life to Christ, for Him to use for His purposes, I died. However, I am not a zombie, nor am I subject to mind-control! Instead, I have been given power to control my own mind because of what Jesus Christ did for me. Sadly I can still choose to do and say dumb things, but now I live my life knowing Christ has already forgiven me – He will not give up on me.

Because of my decision to follow Him, His life has flooded my heart, soul, mind, and body, and I found the real reason I am here… Which is to serve Him, and you!  An eternal seed was planted within me when I made that decision. It is up to me to water, fertilise and care for that seed, otherwise I am just going to stay a teeny tiny fragile little plant who expects everyone else to look after them. However, I was born into God’s kingdom to grow and mature. I can’t blame my pastor if I don’t talk to Jesus, or read the bible or obey what God has told me to do in His book. Like the mustard seed Jesus talked about in Matthew 13:31-32. I’ve been designed to grow into a spiritual tree, that gives other people spiritual food, shade and shelter, in this life.

From the moment I was born again, I was given spiritual ears to hear Him and spiritual eyes to see Him at work in my life, and in the lives of others. However, He does not necessarily talk to me through a booming voice, or angel visitation, He talks to me in the place where I have always talked to myself. Some people call that my conscience, or my thoughts – others might say: “He speaks into my heart.” Because this new kingdom we have entered is spiritual, we can be deceived if we don’t read the bible. The bible is the manufacturer’s handbook, so it tells us what spiritual people are, and what they do. Jesus’ life and death is our visual aid. He shows us what living a life of love toward Him and others looks like.

Because … the devil has been talking to you and I from the moment we first understood language– we know that satan also talks to us in the place where we think. he’s been lying to us and telling us God does not want us or care about us, because we are not special enough!  It is up to me to read the bible so I know for myself, what God says — then I can hear when satan tells me a lie. satan is pushy, loud, and mean. he twists things and tries to make us feel stupid, small and inadequate, because he uses the place where we self-talk, to play on our feelings and bring up old circumstances. satan will even use our rational thought processes against us.

We have been absorbing knowledge one way or another all of our lives, However, what we’ve absorbed from that knowledge does not have to be accurate. It can be influenced by who taught us, or our past experiences., and by the dumb things we’ve chosen to do or read, or the people we’ve hung around with. Not every thought that pops into my head is God speaking, and sometimes those thoughts that sound like me are my enemy. satan sounds like me because I am used to his whispering. Nevertheless, I must always take whatever I hear/think, and hold it up against what God says in His book.

The best thing anyone can do to prevent deception is to know, for themselves, what the Holy Spirit has said in the bible. We need to keep reminding ourselves that we are now God’s house:“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

We are meant to digest His book by reading it, and then we must obey — do what it says. That’s how the bible becomes part of us. It will change our minds and thinking. It will help us diagnose our own wrong thinking, as well revealing as satan’s whispers. We are in a war … we live in enemy territory.  Some of the worst wars often happen INSIDE our own heads! But sometimes we blame satan for stuff that is really us. Maybe we chose it, or we continued to participate in things that the bible says are not good for us. Everything we do in this life is about choices. As we start to mature, we will make better more informed choices.

When you and I hear, whispered quietly inside our own thoughts, “I love you” ….that’s God speaking! satan doesn’t love anything. I urge you to pray for eyes to see the Lord at work in your own life, plus ears to hear Him, then check out what you hear with what it says in the bible. The bible is one of God’s ways of manifesting His steadfastness. 👋

P 2272 The Lord will fight for you.

Exodus 14:13&14  “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

These verses from Exodus 14 talk about the sort of commitment the Lord has toward our own personal situations. The Israelites are our illustration. They have escaped from Pharaoh and now he is in pursuit, so they complained at Moses and told him to reorganise God because they didn’t like their current circumstances. 😳

First of all I think their responses are quite normal for a people who have no real faith – or for anyone whose God is a concept and not a reality. The very essence of the story of the Israelites and the Promised Land is they were constantly wanting God to prove Himself to them. These people had grown up on the stories about how they came to be in Egypt in the first place. They called Abraham their father, yet none of what they had learnt and memorised was a comfort to them.

They did what many of us do, they thought following the chosen leader was going to be enough and while they were being delivered, God was brilliant, He was wonderful, let’s all sing and have happy dances together. 🥳 Have a party. But at the first sign of trouble because their faith had no root, they were like the stuff you see blowing around in Western movies … tumbleweed.

In the ninth and tenth plagues, it was obvious that God was making an exception for them, it was pitch black for the Egyptians when it was broad daylight for the Israelites. The Egyptian firstborn died and theirs didn’t. It was made clear to these people, by signs and wonders, that God was on their side. He had a purpose in mind, and He was going to perform it. Sometimes we can think if we can only see a miracle, if only something spectacular changed, then it could increase our faith. That doesn’t seem to have worked out very well for these people! Here in these 2 verses, God is promising to fight for them but the fear in their hearts was greater than anything He said.

The truth is, seeing the miraculous and the extraordinary can be a wonderful way to boost your faith, but only if you have a mustard seed of faith inside you in the first place! Faith doesn’t fall on us from the outside, it’s our hearts that need to be changed – we need to learn to trust Him, no matter what. These people’s hearts need to be softened toward Almighty God. It is all too easy to be crazy about Jesus when we first meet Him, but then the trials and tribulations of this life erode that faith to a point where we almost become skeptical, hardened against the very God we profess to love.

Sometimes bad things happen, so we pray, we get other people praying, we find a bunch of scriptures that express our needs and hold them up to heaven, but the real problem is inside us. Our faith is not strong and steady. HE wants us to grow in our own personal knowledge of how much He cares for us. But we just want the pain to go away, or we need a rest, and we need an answer. Every unmet disappointment, every time our hope is deferred, our heart gets sicker and sicker.

I believe God fights for us all the time and most of the time we don’t see Him at work because the only answer that is acceptable to us is: ‘I need this fixed, I need it right here and right now.’  One of the best ways to pray is also the hardest – ‘Thy kingdom come Thy will be done ‘ etc. ‘and please give me the strength and courage to wait for YOUR answer.’ Yet despite what the Israelites felt and thought, God’s plans for them never changed, they simply needed to learn to TRUST HIM! He was always there, sometimes working out of their view, paving a way into a new life for them. A glorious revelation of Himself.

Christ in us IS the hope of glory. The way to make our faith deeper isn’t always to be snatched out of problems, the way to make our faith deeper is to exercise it when it looks like there is no hope. Hanging onto the fact that He is good! Our faith should always be in Him. Who He is – not what He does.

“I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.” Philippians 4:12-13 TPT
