P 3207 He goes where you go.

Here are a few scriptures that Jesus Himself said regarding His role in this life. John 5:19: “For I have never spoken on My own initiative or authority, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment regarding what to say and what to speak.”  We have been given a new mandate. We are to do what He did. And in John 5:19: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” We walk with Him every day, just like He walked with the Holy Spirit. Where He goes, we go. Where we go, He goes.

In these verses the Lord Jesus is teaching His disciples Who they should always rely upon. Our personal intimate connection with our Heavenly Father is essential. Jesus died to give it to us, in other words, it was worth His life to give us this privilege. We all need to think about that carefully. Everything the Lord said and did was said and done for a reason, and we are part of that reason. He also did what He did to glorify His Father, but that is for another day.

Over the years Christians have sincerely tried to make Christianity a bit easier, more manageable, even simpler – because most people today are busy people. But that just eventually means our faith has to fit in around everything else we have to do. The result of that kind of thinking is that we end up grappling with things we should simply give to Him. We get bothered about all sorts of things that He will gladly bear for us. Busyness, worry, sadness etc. bothers our sleep. Those heavy things change our moods and twist our emotions. It is better to choose to die self… than try to fit our faith in God into our already busy lives. My advice is to put Him first.

I often remind myself, when I am caught between a rock and a hard place, that I can do something or other for just one day. Sometimes just for the next minute! Relating to the Lord needs to be our priority. I am not talking about fasting all day and all night for 40 days and 40 nights — and/or praying all day and all night for 40 days and 40 nights! I am talking about a minute by minute intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, His precious Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

They have done absolutely everything to facilitate our ability to relate to Them. It’s finished. That work is done! Now it is over to us. We are not an afterthought to Them. So let’s not let the Trinity be an afterthought to us. At the same time, it is not wise to pick up guilt, shame etc. simply because we are busy. Treat them like a red hot poker  – put them down. We need the same approach to our Father that Jesus had. His purpose, no matter what He did, or what came at Him, was to serve His Father’s will. Our purpose changes our priorities.

Let’s go quickly to the Old Testament to look at Jonah. The scriptures are full of so many stories of individuals that God Himself interacted with to impact their lives. You might say Jonah is a ‘one off,’ but the truth is — he’s also a great example of God dealing with an individual. Boy did Jonah have adventures! He was thrown overboard in a ferocious storm, and then God sent an uber-whale to pick him up! Then God grew a vine to shelter him and to teach him about what was going on through a physical illustration. He speaks to each one of us in many different ways.

These stories about others, are in His book as an illustration. Some people lived successful Godly lives and some did not. Let’s look at Israel. In 1 Corinthians 10:6-11. “Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.”  Every decision to sin, takes the Lord out of our focus, and eventually, out of our thoughts.

The Lord utterly loves and values you – there is no-one else like you in this world. I don’t care if  ‘nobody knows your name,’ or if you’ve got 2 million followers on social media! You can give Him something nobody else can give Him… your love and affection, your way of looking at this life, your heart reaching out to Him every time you think of Him — even if it’s just for a brief moment  Just turn your head and smile, the Lord knows what you are doing … and He loves it.

The greatest person in His kingdom is the least – so nobody is unimportant! Jesus did not look, or talk down to anybody. And whenever we look at Him, walking, talking, healing and interacting with people — we are seeing our Heavenly Father in action. The Lord Jesus came here so He could look each one of us in the eye, and we could see God’s love in His eyes. Now we show that love to others, because He lives inside US.

Your thoughts;  your heart;  your life; your family — all these things matter to Him. Maybe in your life it seems like nobody ever really listens to your heart. Yet in the Lord’s eyes, you are valued and valid, simply because you are His. It is His love for each one of us that validates us. Not what we’ve done – or what we wish we hadn’t done. The fact that He, the God of all the Universe and beyond, Who made heaven and earth, loves us…That’s what validates us. Remember, He walks with us now, He goes where you go. Bye 👋.

P 2448 I’m a fan of James.

Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.” James 1:17 TPT. ” Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].” James 1:17 AMP

I really like James. His subject is always related to Who God is, and what He expects from us. When you write a blog like the one I write every day, you should really only have one point each time. I sneak a couple of others in every now and then – but James jumps about like a grasshopper in a grass fire! This means that sometimes even the smallest part of each paragraph or chapter has an individual point worth meditating on. You simply can’t rush reading James! The deeper you dig, the more you will find.

He’s full of prayer points. He makes reading, simply for the sake of general reading, harder. James is a book to be studied, not just casually read. I find I have to stop and think and pray a lot! We need to savour what he says as we go along, then decide to take the time to chew on each of his points, because James has not made it easy for us. Instead we simply have to stop and pray and ask for help. Today I want to look at the above scripture. I put it in two different versions to help give it breadth. I often read the same thing in other versions when I read from the book of James!

As he carefully tells us, our God has given wonderful gifts to mankind — salvation is definitely the greatest one. However, wisdom is also a great gift. Further on in this book James tells us to ask for wisdom, and use our faith to receive it. Wisdom will not simply fall on us, we have to go after it. Every single thing Father God gives us is great. – no matter how it looks at the time. And these gifts are not meant just for you and I, they are meant to be shared with everyone else around us.  Someone once told me that the best gift from God, is the one you need at that moment! That sounds good to me.

At the same time the verse above contains revelation about Father God’s character. Who He is, how He relates to us. Our precious Father is not deceitful, or whimsical. He doesn’t change His mind according to His moods … because He doesn’t have them! Our Heavenly Father is not subject to moods like human beings are … His love is always ON! He doesn’t like us one minute, and not the next, simply because we did some awful or dumb thing or other. Jesus Christ took care of that.

When you read the Old Testament, God’s incredible patience, and endurance with man’s poisonous self-serving manoeuvring, plus controlling manipulative ways, becomes apparent. Mankind constantly questions the Lord’s purity of purpose all over the place in the Old Testament. That is still a huge danger for us today. We can end up negating our own faith by questioning His goodness and His loyalty to us. In this scripture, James highlights Father God’s goodness. It needs to be firmly established within our hearts, without question. However, we must continue to look for signs of His loving goodness, when we read – otherwise His goodness becomes an add-on to our own needs.

The Holy Spirit will help each one of us uncover how loving and kind He is. Just simply ask for eyes to see Him as you read it. Otherwise we can end up looking for something to benefit ME, help ME in my hour of trial, and miss the very best part. HIM. God is always the best portion. The more revelation we have about His Love and Character the more our faith will grow. I have personally discovered that the more I intentionally look for the best in other people, even when it seems elusive, I will see something good I haven’t seen before. Living like this changes my attitude towards others.

This scripture in James tells us that Almighty God never changes. That word never is powerful. Never means … not ever! So when our circumstances are not favourable or even incredibly difficult, GOD HAS NOT CHANGED TOWARD US.  Our circumstances must never dictate our faith. We need to practice relying upon His goodness and faithfulness to get us through life’s hard bits, and continually look for evidence of His involvement in our lives, despite our personal situations. Acknowledging that I don’t know everything, diminishes pride and it humbles me … all at the same time.

All of this may seem obvious, but under extreme pressure we can easily question “why?”  ‘Why has this thing happened, why are things so difficult? In those times I believe that it is almost impossible for us as human beings, to understand the kind of love, wisdom, forbearance, faithfulness, and gentleness Father God gives us AS A GIFT. I love that James reminds us that if it is good, then it is God, and even when it looks bad, it can still be Him …working in ways we do not understand. We can count on that fact because God’s loving consistency is without question.  Bye. 👋🏻

P 2289 The art of speaking to your soul.

So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise Him all over again. Yes, He is my saving grace!” Psalms 42:11 TPT

Way back in the ark, eons ago … I had three small kids. The youngest, at two, often felt quite overwhelmed by the older kids. They could, temporarily, out-talk the youngest and out-smart and outrun the toddler as well. They could do practically everything better than the little one could. This situation caused the toddler quite a bit of angst and suffering. But the kid grew as children do, and eventually everyone had to run to keep up with them!

However at the time, with a list of things this child had to remember, this dear little person felt a tad overwhelmed. One day they had enough! Everybody seem to know better than this child did and have something else for them to do or learn. So the toddler ran into their bedroom distressed, and they threw themselves on their bed yelling all the way: “I’m the boss, I’m the boss, I’m the BOSS of my bed!

We all kind of got the point instantly, and were a bit more considerate of this kid’s age after that – we realised that child was feeling quite powerless.  But in spite of all that a toddler figured out how to encourage itself!

Sometimes our own souls need reassurance and if none is forthcoming then we need to talk to ourselves, and do it positively. That negative stuff will do your head in. Self-sabotage is for the birds … and … they don’t like it either. 😂 Do yourself a favour, don’t shoot yourself in the foot, instead when we need to repent and repair things – do it. Then move on! This life has far better stuff to focus on than our failings. Somebody said it better than I can recently – “Don’t look back like Lot’s wife.” Great advice!

It is good to start telling yourself that setbacks are temporary, and mistakes are a part of this life. Bring to mind the sorts of Scriptures that build up your personal POV, instead of tearing it down. The fact that the Lord Jesus thought each one of us was worth dying for is enough to shift our focus away from whatever has been going on and put it firmly back under His supervision. He doesn’t love us because we get things right – He loves us because we are His!

Jesus’ own security was deeply rooted in the Father’s love for Him. His primary focus was always about ‘what was going to be good for the person in front of Him.’ It is not healthy for human beings to live with self-hatred and self criticism. That stuff leaks into other compartments and then it ends up coming out of our mouth unbidden – and suddenly we can find ourselves finding fault with other people all over the place.

We were not saved to become fault finders! Instead we are to be a God-given source of encouragement for many. At the same time, we need to actively practise being able to cheer ourselves up, despite our circumstances, by focussing on what the bible says about who we are in Christ..

This Psalmist knew the real secret of maintaining a healthy spiritual attitude – don’t just focus on yourself and your actions or feelings etc. watch and see what God is doing on your behalf. We can use our energy to make excuses for ourselves OR – we can admit our faults, confess them, make reparation and use our energy etc. to remember everything the Lord has done for us. That focus changes moods! We can encourage ourselves in the Lord, and modify our self- talk. Plus deliberately remind ourselves of His unfailing love and grace toward us. And I have found it useful to not just parrot off those words of loving hope – the secret is to let them sink in.

The fact that Jesus loves you and me, is extraordinary. HIS LOVE IS LIKE THE OCEAN! Bye 👋🏻
