P 3214 Let’s aim higher.

My beautiful daughter said this to me the other day when we were talking about 1 Corinthians 13 and its application. She emphasised some words in 1 Corinthians 13:3, like this:“LOVE REMAINS!” In other words, our love for Him and others, shouldn’t float in and out with the tide. The Lord’s love STAYS with us, no-matter-what-happens, steady on its course, and ours needs to aim at that too. That thought stopped me in my tracks. As comforting as it is to know that His love will never fail me, what’s going on where I am? Let’s aim together at having His kind of enduring, never-ending love … the love our Bridegroom deserves. A love that dies for another’s sake.

Everything that the Lord mentions in these really well-known verses is designed to REMAINso that it becomes who we are. Previously it seemed to me that it was a bit of a dream to think I could attempt something like that. I believe obedience is the key factor when you want to walk with the Holy Spirit, but sometimes I’d give up for a while, because it seemed like I was letting the other person get away with being difficult. 😱 It is quite useful and just a little bit shocking, to let yourself hear your own thoughts out loud. All I learnt from wandering in and out of love as the mood took me, was that you can make an awful mess all by yourself!

Let’s look at what the bible says: ‘love is patient, kind, not envious, doesn’t boast, is not proud. It doesn’t dishonour others, and it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, and doesn’t keep a record of wrongs” etc. We can’t walk in His kind of love, and do the opposite the next minute! Love doesn’t change, so neither should WE! Big breath in … in other words we can’t have this kind of love one week, and lose it the next! Faith, hope and love remain. Ergo, if it doesn’t remain it’s probably me still trying my little heart out! When I’ve thought about these verses previously — before my darling daughter opened her big mouth, was: “Yeah, those things remain – in heaven!  Whoops.

I went a bit off my adult daughter momentarily when she pointed out that whole remaining vibe thingy. I didn’t like that idea much. I’m only human, and people mess up, everyone does. And that’s when I hit another speed bump – Jesus didn’t mess up and He was also human! And there I go again … underestimating the power of God to bring about real change.

Remain can mean more than one thing. It means that it lasts, but it can also mean if it is His kind of love — you have proof it exists because it is still there! You can’t shake it, break it, or lose it. I was always good at sums at school, and I did this sum pretty quickly… If I don’t have that kind of love then I don’t have the real thing yet. I’ve let my AIM settle for less. Now I know why the bible says: “Earnestly pursue love…” (1 Corinthians 14:1a) ‘Cos that stuff runs away from you, and we are going to have to chase after it, it won’t fall on us.

If I am going to let His love remain in me, I am going to need loads of help. I know that by myself, I definitely can’t remain in love – but just because I can’t do it, or I think I can’t do it, that should not change my AIM! People annoy me, just like they annoy you, and I have learnt how to repent, repair and move on …BUT … when I am having the same difficulty over and over and over again … it’s time to revise what is really going on.

I rapidly came to the conclusion that if I don’t choose to walk with the Holy Spirit, I’m going to blow this incredible lasting transformation in about 5 seconds flat. Actually, it’s probably more like two seconds — I was hopeful and I exaggerated!! The truth is — if the Lord doesn’t have a way to help me with this I’m sunk. The very best I can do is say nothing, and … I’m not good at saying nothing! Sigh. Guess what? God always has a way.

I did some further research. and I also found this verse. It said: “… follow after this kind of love…” I am assuming the translator meant follow after Jesus, because I don’t personally know anyone currently alive who is walking in this kind of love! However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t available to us. We too can learn to live and walk this way, but we will have to DIE to self, first. Jesus promises to teach US how. In 1 John 3:18 – we are exhorted to practise love: “Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth.”

That is challenging too. Plus it says in Colossians 3:14: “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” So this kind of love can be ‘put on.’ Some versions say: “clothe yourselves.” It seems to me that we need to put on this kind of love and never ever take it off!! Even if we are harshly provoked. It’s kind of like the idea some nationalities had in the olden days before proper heating. They sewed themselves into their long johns for the winter. (They did make provision for the loo, BTW.) They put that garment on, with no view in mind of taking it off again, any time soon.

I think we need to let the Lord stitch us so far inside God’s Word – forever – that we have no thought about ever taking it off!  We must be so committed to Jesus and His cause that we will die rather than excuse ourselves. We cannot afford to think that obedience to His word is OPTIONAL any more. The thing is, if I look at love as a lifestyle, I will probably get overwhelmed and be tempted to opt out. I need to be devoted to what I believe, minute by minute.

I’m just going to leave that thought there so you and I can stew on it. I think that sounds like a permanent change. How about you? Let’s aim higher. Bye. 👋

P 3004 We get in for free!

“You can pass through His open gates with the password of praise. Come right into His presence with thanksgiving. Come bring your thank offering to Him and affectionately bless His beautiful Name!” Psalms 100:4 TPT.

I enjoyed a Wednesday morning recently, when one of my precious grand-daughters came to our house to help us prepare the Great Wall of blankets for distribution. We are dropping off the first pile today. It is always so special to hang around with my family. The grandkids are all beautiful people – their parents have done an amazing job raising them. These young people cause me to give thanks over and over again, because they like to be around me. Are they perfect? Nope! But, then again… neither am I.

What the Psalmist is saying when he wrote this verse in Psalm 100 verse 4, parallels what happens with our own  families – it is not formal – it is joyful. He is saying that our deep affection for Jesus just bubbles out of us in praise and thanksgiving, all the time. I can instantly recall my appreciation for my family at any time — because they mean the world to me. And because I know Jesus, I can’t help but praise Him. Then that praise will lead me into worshipping Him. Worship is much more than singing and dancing and magnifying His Name — it also includes me presenting my body to Him as a living sacrifice, daily.

We can go and visit with Almighty God in our hearts, using our all inclusive free pass plus our faith and thanksgiving, whenever we like, wherever we are. Imagine the incredible privilege we have been given. We don’t need an emissary or an Ambassador to introduce us, or someone who will explain who we are – we have the greatest Ambassador of all time standing right next to the throne of God – and He knows who we are – personally!

The very minute we begin to praise God, the gates of heaven swing open and we can go right on in and approach the eternal throne of His unending Grace, giving thanks for all He has done for us every single step of the way. In those moments we need to present our body to Him as a living sacrifice, as an offering of our gratefulness. Jesus gave us His life, and we give Him ours – daily – not just on Sunday!

Because of what the Lord Jesus did for me, and what He is still doing, right now … at this very second — I can call on His Name and spend time with Him anywhere, any time. “I am not ashamed, because I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12.  I know HIM! And when I give Him myself, I remind myself that  He has given me Himself. That’s not a fair exchange – it is unparalleled in its generosity. Jesus Christ is the best family member ever, He loves us no matter what mood we are in. Let’s just stop and thank God that He is never, ever unapproachable.

Almighty God loves the thanksgiving songs and praise hugs we freely give Him. He knows when our hearts are heavy, but we still choose to give Him praise despite our circumstances. That’s called a sacrifice of praise: “Through Him, Jesus, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.” Hebrews 13:5. Our God is so aware of sacrifice – He made the greatest sacrifice of all time!

No matter what is going on around us, we don’t just praise Him because it makes us feel good – although it will!  And we don’t praise Him to use Him, or get something from Him – although He is incredibly generous. We praise Him for Who He is, because He is worthy of all praise and honour. LOVE SPEAKS! It quite simply can’t help itself! You can’t shut it up!!

I love my grand-kids because they are my offspring’s offspring, and they delight me. But my love for my family is not in the same ballpark as GOD’S LOVE FOR ALL OF US. We are so privileged, we can get our Father’s attention at any minute of the day. The bible tells us “His ears are always open to our cry …”How amazing is that?! The next time you spend a few moments just quietly appreciating Him, remind yourself that we have been given a total-unlimited-complete-accessibility-at-any-given-time-any-time-of-the-day-or-night PASS.

Let’s not waste it because we think we are too busy right now to pray. Instead, go through the gates thanking and praising Him all the way.  Ask Him to go with you wherever you go – He loves doing that. Tell Him you will stop for anybody He wants you to speak to. And always remember, we get in for free. Bye🥰.

P 2792 Speak life.

Tell everyone you know, saved, or not: “God has a purpose for your life;” or, “The God of the Universe and beyond loved you w-a-y before you were born.” My helpful hint for today is to practice speaking His destiny into the people around you – everywhere you go. Stop and make the effort to tell somebody they are doing a good job. Even when they mess stuff up, pick the time when they do stuff right and point out what they did that was a blessing to you.

We have the power of life and death in our tongues. Here’s Proverbs 18:21 GNB: “What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words.”God gave us this power, so it is essential that we use it for good. Half the planet is racing about joining this social media outlet or that, because they are looking for their destiny, their place in this world.. God has a plan for every single one of them! Human beings need acceptance and approval, even if they are doing ordinary jobs. We must look for the good in this life, and lift someone else’s spirit by telling them what we have seen. And yes, I mean your spouse and kids! Keep your marriage friendly, tell your spouse what they did right!

Sometimes people express their uniqueness badly. They take most if not all of their clothes off, behave appallingly, or have lingering doubts about their sex or personhood… or worse, they don’t like who they are. So they can end up doing awful stuff simply because they feel life is in opposition to them. They live their lives based on: “every man for himself!’ This is why we can’t possibly start to relate to people by choosing to focus on their SIN. We need to start with WHO they are in HIS eyes. God loves them. Living this way may take lots of practice, because it’s a new way to think! His way. Meanwhile, ask and keep on asking for His GRACE – you will need it!

Like I said yesterday, opportunities to dislike situations or people, will fall on us everywhere we go. It doesn’t take talent to be a critic but it definitely takes talent to recognise someone else’s good points! Gracious, generous actions are getting so rare nowadays they make the news!  We need to be dedicated to His Ways and walking in His love, to even begin to see what’s good in other people. The people around us may seem ordinary, but they are extraordinary to Him. He has a plan for their lives, He wants to bring out the best in every single person we meet.

Remember, Jesus called local fishermen to be His disciples. He wasn’t looking for clever people, religious people, or popular people. What about Zacchaeus? Like he was Mr Popularity – the tax guy! Even one of the women who followed Him had a dubious past. And let’s not forget Jesus chose Judas! Father God sent His Son to ordinary human beings just like us. Sadly this world is choosing every day to qualify or eliminate people because they don’t have His knowledge and expertise. Let’s remember, He made them, He knows why they are here and who they can be.

But the one thing that makes every single person ever born, extraordinary, is the ONE WHO CHOSE TO LOVE US! We are made precious because the most Precious Man of all Eternity loves people! Read the book. Here’s Paul. He wrote this to the Galatian church: “I’m obviously not trying to flatter you or water down my message to be popular with men, but my supreme passion is to please God. For if all I attempt to do is please people, I would fail to be a true servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 TPT.

As you can see, flattery or pleasing people is a waste of time, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be used by God to truthfully speak life into someone who has no idea of who they really are in His sight. Everywhere we go. This encapsulates what I want to say today – Christ is IN US. So, we can be the thermometer or barometer and fit in — OR, we can be the thermostat instead and lift the mood and atmosphere around us, and introduce a touch of His life to others.

God is good to all of us whether we deserve it or not. ‘The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike…’ Here is a great reason why we are to live like this. It’s  from Matthew 5:43-48 in the Amplified bible: “…so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father Who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].” Our motivation as His Kids can easily be revealed to the-people-who-don’t-know-Him-yet, and living like that is tied to the way we treat the people around us.

Speaking life to everyone around us ushers in His kingdom. I learnt that when I expect bad things, that means I can only see bad things, and those bad things definitely outweigh everything else! I had selective sight, because I chose to put blinkers on. But when I began to expect to see good stuff, I saw it, even if it was only faintly there. It changed everything. Now my view has changed permanently. There’s an old saying:”If you are looking for trouble, you are going to find it.”  We can have our Father’s Eyes — my advice is to stop looking for the bad, and speak life instead. Bye 👋

P 2777 Conquering the storm of worry.

But as for me, Your strength shall be my song of joy. At each and every sunrise, my lyrics of Your love will fill the air! For You have been my glory-fortress, a stronghold in my day of distress.”Psalms 59:16 TPT. Sheep follow their Shepherd, they don’t have a care in the world – they just jumble along eating and sleeping. Our God is so strong! Let His strength be the place you choose to hide in. We need to remind ourselves, as we read His book, that He will never change. What was true yesterday, in the bible, will be true today and tomorrow! Wake yourself up with the knowledge that you are loved so dearly. Despite the fact that a lot of people in this world don’t always understand you – Almighty God does. His Love is all-encompassing and perfect. He’s the perfect Shepherd.

Verses like this one from Psalm 59 are in the bible to be an exclamation, exhortation and proclamation into every single day we are given. Reminding us that:  🎼 “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it! 🎶 Some of those wonderful old songs keep me going when trouble tries to crush me. That and the knowledge that even though it feels like I have no strength – He is always my strength. Teehee! Now that old children’s song is going to play over and over in your head. Gotcha!

The bible is an enormous help to me, it stops me from flailing about when I feel like I am drowning from worry or sorrow or fear. Flailing about makes you sink…! … No matter how many thousands of words we inwardly throw at our difficulties, worry does not accomplish anything. I have had to learn and practise handing things over to Him: ’Our times are in His hands.’ It’s a learnt skill. In my natural mind, giving stuff to the Holy Spirit makes perfect sense … because absolutely nothing can be changed by worrying.

Yet my emotions often jump up and down and insist … “if you can just think of an answer …!!!” Round and round I go getting dizzy. Then fear kicks in. That’s why we need to read the bible every single day, we need an arsenal of bible verses to chuck at difficulties and problems. It has taken me years to admit that: “I can’t actually fix most things, by myself.” Many of my grand problem-solving ideas, involve somebody else’s co-operation or actions! Good luck with that!! People will do what they will do. That particular thought just flows naturally into getting frustrated with them.

The best course is to step back in behind the Shepherd and give everything to Him … and leave it there. Then I amble on, walking behind Him like a dumb sheep. If those worrying thoughts continue to niggle at me, then I keep right on handing things back to Him. Even if I accidentally start trying to figure stuff out, I repent and … repeat “There’s that thing I gave You Lord, please forgive me for worrying over it again.” Amen. Worry can’t change anything but your mood!  It can take you from a good place to a bad one in a heartbeat.

God’s answers to problems are not the same as ours praise HIM!… They are way better, for everybody involved!! Plus when we are worried, we can become more self-centred. But when we hand things to Him and leave them there, we become God-centred. We must keep our eyes on our Shepherd. Even a nasty thing like worry can be used to remind us that God has us in the palm of His wonderful hands. It isn’t lazy to give things to Jesus, it’s sensible. Some things in this life are totally outside of our control. I got tired of trying to figure out which was which, so now I just hand everything over.

One day I asked myself: “How much of my life have I wasted worrying about things I had no hope of changing?” Now there’s a survey nobody wants to do! Sadly, worry always feels like you are doing something – when you actually aren’t. It feels that way because it is WORK. It’s the kind of work that exhausts you mentally and emotionally. You can get so tired from trying to figure out an answer, that you become impatient with everyone else around you. That’s not good!

“Let this hope BURST forth within you, releasing a continual joy. Don’t give up in a time of trouble, but commune with God at all times.”Romans 12:12 TPT. Tell the Lord what’s going on, talk to Him! Prayer is simply stepping into His rhythm and walking with Him. At the same time ask Him for His opinion. Then listen for the bible verse that will suddenly appear into your heart. He speaks ‘bible’ to me often. There are times when I cannot remember even reading a particular verse but it pops up anyway. He’s a fantastic Shepherd.

Here’s a last thought —- let’s use the phone for more than texting or social media. Let’s get a bible app that helps you look up words or phrases. I don’t know about you but I can’t always find what I’m looking for, the net helps me all the time! That storm of worrying will pass – we just don’t want to be one of its casualties.  Baa! 🐑

P 2596 There is no hole too deep.

Psalm 16:1-11MSG: “Keep me safe, O God, I’ve run for dear life to You. I say to God, “Be my Lord!” Without You, nothing makes sense. And these God-chosen lives all around—what splendid friends they make! Don’t just go shopping for a god. Gods are not for sale. I swear I’ll never treat god-names like brand-names. My choice is You, God, first and only. And now I find I’m Your choice! You set me up with a house and yard. And then You made me your heir!

The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake is confirmed by my sleeping heart. Day and night I’ll stick with God; I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go. I’m happy from the inside out, and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed. You canceled my ticket to hell—that’s not my destination! Now You’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of Your face. Ever since You took my hand, I’m on the right way.”

Isn’t this a terrific Psalm full of good advice? It is a testimony speaking about living life His way. When I read this today, it reminded me of a fantastic testimony hubby and I have from years ago, and today I thought I would share it. Many years ago my husband was working full-time as a clinical nurse. One day he was walking an older gentleman back from a procedure, when the old man slipped and started to fall. Hubby reflexly rotated to try and catch him before he fell and my dear fella badly injured his back. Thank the Lord the old man was unhurt.

Long story short, hubby went into months of agony with countless steroid injections, back braces, scans, X-rays, and saw many, many doctors and specialists. The diagnosis was grim, he had worn away the disc between L4 and L5 and the bone was rubbing on the bone, producing constant excruciating pain. The pain was never going to go away, plus he had to take pain killers for months and months… Meanwhile the pain killers messed with his head.

At the same time the hospital kept trying to prove there was nothing wrong with his back, and they were not at fault. Work Cover insurance ignored us. Eventually we were informed that because we had fallen far behind in our mortgage payments, the bank was going to take our house, within the month. It was an awful, awful time. Even back then I was not well, and we had no other resources to fall back on. This went on over eighteen months.

You know, in order to see a miracle, we must need a miraclethey are not just entertainment! … We loved our house and we were going to lose it through no fault of our own. The lady from work cover consistently said that hubby would NEVER receive a pay out – even though everybody knew that he had been injured through work – meanwhile we had endless rounds of appointments talking to people who continued to say: “no help for you!” We kept praying, sometimes complaining, and sometimes with little or NO faith.

Months later out of the blue, this lady called us again. She said: “I’ve got some news for you, I don’t agree with it, but they have taken your case to a higher power.😂 So they have agreed to pay out your superannuation.” Hubby was still on the phone with this lady he had talked to for months, but his knees hit the floor and he cried out: “Thank you Jesus!”  I heard him from the kitchen! Meanwhile, we knew who the ‘Higher Power” was!

The pay out was a bit more than we needed to get rid of the mortgage once and for all. But in order to get this payout we had to go for financial counselling, because it was hubby’s superannuation – so we agreed. The morning of the appointment a word from the Lord dropped into my heart. He said: “Render unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to Him.” OK, we didn’t know what that meant but … we took note of it. Everybody at the financial counsellor’s offices was lovely to us. ‘Would we like a cup of tea? The parking’s  free. How can we help you?’

So in we go to see the consultant. The nice man began explaining how he could save us even more money, with a bit of creative accounting we could avoid paying any taxes on the money we received. He said this earnestly, insisting that it was legal! God reminded us of what He’d said, and both of us knew immediately what that meant. No wriggling out of doing what was right. We had to pay the taxes, $18,000 – $20,000 … a fortune to us. And we thanked the man sincerely and explained we were Christians, so we wouldn’t be depriving the government of their tax.

It was hilarious. The mood in his office changed instantly. The nice man couldn’t get rid of us quickly enough, well we did give testimony about how we got the money in the first place! He probably thought we were going to preach at Him! Especially when we explained that we also needed to tithe on this money. So, we didn’t GET a cup of tea. Nobody gave us a voucher for the parking, In fact they couldn’t get rid of us fast enough. Meanwhile we laughed all the way down in the lifts!

When we arrived home that same day … true story! We had a letter in our letter box – it was a cheque for the exact amount of money we needed to pay the tax!  (We tithed on that too!) God is never any man’s debtor. Praise the Lord!! 🙌 There is no hole too deep that the Lord Jesus cannot find us, there is no difficulty He cannot get us out of.

ps Hubby had an operation shortly after all this … but that’s another testimony. Bye 👋
