P 2348 Really?? Have we become this small?đŸ˜±

Look, I totally get that we cannot, and must not, even by inference, give others permission to live sinfully. Yes, there are people in our society who live what we might call depraved lives. But please !! It’s time for the Lone Ranger and Tonto to climb down off their horses and walk amongst the ordinary people living in this world and start living a life of love – instead of judgment. Some of our finest warriors will be people who have been snatched away from the fires of hell!

Meanwhile what do WE have that was not GIVEN to us? “For who regards you as superior or what sets you apart as special? What do you have that you did not receive [from another]? And if in fact you received it [from God or someone else], why do you boast as if you had not received it [but had gained it by yourself]?” 1 Corinthians 4:7.

Where do we ‘get off’ looking down our noses at other people – people who may never even have heard of the Saviour – and start judging their lives. We are not here to be permissive but we aren’t here to be judgmental either. Is this really how we think we should introduce people to the One Who loved them before this world began? Like that’s gunna work! Condemnation just drives people further into excuses, and defensiveness. If we want to see people set free, then we need to stay in Love with the Saviour and live a life of sacrificial love toward everyone around us.

“Oh, but they will go to hell if they don’t repent and change their ways.” RIGHT. So our plan is to use FEAR to push them into God’s ways? Fear always leads to faith doesn’t it? NOT!! Hmmm. Aren’t we confusing FEAR with CONVICTION? Have we utterly forgotten who WE were before Jesus saved us? Speaking for myself I was a huge bag of superiority – “I would never do stuff like that!”  says I as I looked down my nose at others. Meanwhile even though I didn’t blatantly lie, but I exaggerated heaps – and of course, that meant I was always the hero of any little story or anecdote I told.

I was guilty of lust, plus a complete lack of honesty. I couldn’t stand my sole parent and the way I was raised, and I said so to anyone who was dumb enough to ask me about it. I hated some people with a passion — usually people who had the effrontery to not like me! In short I was as ugly inside as most people are, but I had become quite adept at hiding it so I would be accepted. But it is hard to hide yourself from yourself, you gotta be dedicated to do that stuff! That kind of self-deception has to be practised.

You know sometimes I think we have not matured enough to understand that sin is not contagious, it is a choice. I will concede that bad circumstances can, and will often appear to line up against us, and temptation often pops up when we are at our weakest. BUT… people make bad choices for many many reasons.

Some things are not actual life-style choices, instead people are driven to these dark places because they cannot cope with how they feel, and our common enemy takes advantage of their needs and weaknesses. When we are starved of love and natural human affection we are easily swayed onto darker pathways. Desperate, lonely people do daft things to fit in. And
sometimes these things are also the cumulative result of cultivating rotten attitudes and activities.

Following Jesus means we leave that proud judgmental lifestyle behind us. We call our SIN – SIN. Not whoopsies. We don’t blame our parents for our unloving ways, because we have and regularly read HIS BOOK and understand that our parents probably did the best they could based what this life shoved at them! We look at the next guy and think: ‘that could have been me, God have mercy on us both!’

Jesus touched the unclean. He interacted with two thieves – Judas and Zacchaeus – one repented and turned his life around and the other didn’t. He even dealt kindly with promiscuous women, and spoke into their hearts instead of condemning them. The only language we’ve been licensed to speak now, is LOVE. Christians fall down when we use the bible as a club to punish, damage, judge and banish people – when in truth the bible is that glorious balm in Gilead that will save the sin-sick, wounded soul.

We need to remember where we were when He found us and called us. We have been GIVEN the greater portion, so let’s use that for everyone’s good and find His better ways to reach out to the lost – ‘cos they ain’t called that for nothing! đŸ’•

P 2281 We are here for the one in front of us.

“Jesus continued, “In the same way, there will be a glorious celebration in heaven over the rescue of one lost sinner who repents, comes back home, and returns to the fold—more so than for all the righteous people who never strayed away.”” Luke 15:7 TPT

Would you like to bring the Lord Jesus joy and give Him glory? Then love on the person in front of you. We dare not ever lose our heart for the lost, or the ones who know Him and have wandered off. The biggest hurdle to today’s modern churches reaching the unchurched people groups around us, is the idea that reaching people for Christ is one man’s job – the evangelist. In bigger churches they probably have a designated evangelist and sometimes he is the youth pastor.

While Mr and Mrs It-Ain’t-My-JOB and family, sit securely in their seat, week by week, knowing that Jesus’ desire to go after the unsaved is taken care of by somebody else. I am going to go out on a very large limb here, right to the very edge of a little twig that bounces up and down, and say that just because somebody else has a title, that does not relieve us of the responsibility to talk to the person in front of us.

Let’s look at Stephen in the book of Acts. IRL he was a  deacon, a steward, a helper. His designated job was to look after the widows and orphans of other nationalities and make sure that they were not overlooked. You know sometimes we need to approach other people’s wacky ideas sensibly, and bring about a resolution that is simple and takes care of the problem. Stephen was delegated that job. People were getting their knickers all twisted and knotted up because they thought their widows and orphans were being neglected. Stephen was one of several answers to the problem.

I don’t know if Stephen was divinely inspired or just a very well read helper – OR BOTH – but he knew the Old Testament well enough to be able to expound it in a clear and concise fashion from Abraham to Christ Himself to a bunch of guys who had studied that subject all their lives. His reward for such spiritual lucidity was they threw rocks at him until he was dead. He became the first martyr. In my opinion, upon reading Stephen’s story in Acts, he was glad to do it – He is a perfect example of “for me to live is Christ, to die is gain
”

Timothy was Paul’s student, his helper and His unofficially adopted spiritual son, and yet he founded churches himself.  Again, a further example of the fact that you never know what the Holy Spirit will do with obedience. It was said of the entire early church that: “these are the people who have turned the known world upside down.” However, most of the men and women who died for what they believed, and for sharing it with others, are not mentioned by name in the book.

Ordinary does not mean overlooked by God. If you read His book carefully, you’ll find very few men and women who would’ve raised a headline in today’s news. They simply obeyed Christ’s clarion call to go and make disciples. My question today is: in the face of their courage and dedication, how can we dare not live lives worthy of all Christ did for us?

I think it is a sad statement that most of us just pay lip service to Jesus’ final words to His disciples. He may not ask us to go to Upper Mongolia, but we’d better be ready in case He does! He has not asked us to build thousands of churches either. A sad fact is, most of our churches today are not founded on a group of people who are newly saved – they are more likely to be founded on a group of people who became disgruntled and disenchanted with their last church or their pastor!

What ARE we doing with the eternal life God gave us? In the Western world we seem to be content to just puddle along building our own little denominational kingdoms. Jesus didn’t ask us to build churches
HE said HE would do that. (Matthew 16:18) Our job is to treat our salvation as a personal calling.  We are here for the person in front of us. So we live our lives asking the Holy Spirit, ‘what do you want me to do for this person, Lord?’ Then we do it.

We read the bible, obey what He said, absorb His Love for mankind from the book, and give what He gave us for free, away to someone else. We have our part and the Holy Spirit has His. We love on them – He draws them to Christ.  It ain’t rocket science. đŸ‘‹đŸ»

P 2240 Let’s turn this thing right-side up!

Christianity has been a ‘no no’ kind of religion for centuries. ‘You can’t do this, or that
and call yourself a Christian. People with tattoos are not Christians etc.’ The enemy of our souls has switched our primary focus from God’s Love and power, to ferreting out sin – wherever we think we find it. We are all experts on what anyone can and can’t do, because the bible says so… (?) We can make the bible say many MANY things. The bible is not a legal document, nor is it a weapon to prove our point – it is a tool to set mankind free from satan’s lies.

Our vast knowledge of sin and how to avoid it
 or not
means we are still eating from that wretched tree in the garden of Eden that led to our downfall! Personally, I want to eat from the tree of life. Jesus made that tree available to me and boy do I need it! However, we cannot eat from both trees. đŸ˜¶ If you do you will get thoroughly confused and tied up in the legality. We need to carefully pray about what we are eating – it has a consequence – it colours what we are giving away. We try to avoid this type of clarity about judging others, because it seems that we have no idea how to handle it. Sadly, the Holy Spirit is not always our Leader and our Guide – He has become the Person we want to come to our meetings to make our lives more blessed. 😱

Jesus Himself didn’t divide people up into categories the way we do. Let’s remember that the Lord knew about Judas’ thievery, and He deliberately spoke to the Samaritan woman. When Christ looked at humanity, He saw people made in His Father’s image, and ANYTHING that might spoil that image …He either taught against it, corrected it, or He healed it. 🧐 So why are we using the the bible as a weapon to sort people? Our in or out theology is tragic. God’s Holiness does not tolerate ANY sin, big or little. However, it would be a tragedy if we pushed out anyone who could be changed when they met Him. I know that when I met Him, He changed my known world!

Paul said this in 1 Timothy 1:15-17 “This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of His great patience with even the worst sinners.”

Like Paul, we must remember we were sinners and have some compassion on the lost, without living in FEAR that we are authenticating someone’s sinful lifestyle. To do that we will need the Holy Spirit’s wisdom. Ananias in the book of Acts didn’t want to go to the Apostle Paul after his conversion. Ananias had a big conversation with the Lord about the man who eventually wrote most of the Epistles. And he took some convincing to go to Paul’s side. Our knowledge of good and evil is flawed by our doctrines. We must stop eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and start eating from the tree of LIFE.

What we think we know, has been overshadowed and prejudiced by what we’ve been taught, over a lifetime of swallowing our own church’s doctrine. But we are told, in the bible, to live our new lives being constantly filled with the Holy Spirit, because He knows stuff we don’t know. Let’s focus on that, and treat others with respect, even if we don’t agree with how they live and find what they do ugly and potentially defiling. Clean comes from the inside, out.

Jesus Christ touched unclean people whenever He met them, and the clean inside Him
made them clean. That’s where we need to be aiming – by eating from the right tree. We must live our lives so motivated by the Holy Spirit and His wishes, as a community, that the power of God in us, transfixes and transforms other people’s lives. Lot lived in Sodom and Gomorrah, but he hated it. ”But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him.” 2 Peter 2:7.

Let’s hate the sin, and love the sinner, and turn this thing right side up – by eating from the tree of life when we eat from the bible. đŸ‘‹đŸ»

P 2219 Hope is a wonderful thing!

To continue with what I wrote yesterday, I wanted to mention the importance of hope today. “There once was a shepherd with a hundred lambs, but one of his lambs wandered away and was lost. So the shepherd left the ninety-nine lambs out in the open field and searched in the wilderness for that one lost lamb. He didn’t stop until he finally found it. With exuberant joy, he raised it up, placed it on his shoulders, and carried it back with cheerful delight!” Luke 15:4-5. TPT.

In my immediate family, we have “lost sheep” – people who no longer follow Christ. Some ran away grumpy, on purpose. They got cheesed off because the Christian life did not turn out the way they thought it should.  And some just kind of meandered off not looking where they were going. Sheep are dumb – they don’t know what is good for them, they can be so busy eating and meeting their own needs, that they forget about the Shepherd and how much He loves them
 until they get into trouble.

As you already know, I rarely include someone else’s thoughts in my blog, but I read this prophetic exhortation, and I thought it was worth including today. Many of us have one or more individuals in our families that have gone away from their faith in Christ. This excerpt was such an encouragement to me, I hope it encourages you too.

I Hear His Whisper … THE PRODIGALS WILL RETURN. “I am calling home the sons and daughters who have forgotten Me. You will see a waterfall of love and mercy bring My children from afar. I have walled them in. They haven’t roamed as far as you expected. They are never outside of the boundaries of My love, and I have never left their sides. I know how to woo the hearts I created. They cannot find what they need outside of Me. In My mercy, they will be restored with fresh passion to seek Me and to know Me.

Dry your eyes, and with a hope-filled heart, look with eyes of faith. The lost ones are coming home. Your delight must be in finding them and loving them back into wholeness and dignity. You will remove loneliness from their hearts. You will see them restored. Even within your family, there will be healing and grace as I recapture hearts and ignite their longings for Me. Love well. Forgive completely. You will see the restoration you’ve prayed for. My will shall be done in their lives.” by Brian Simmons and Gretchen Rodriguez.

I loved this prophetic word, because it is all about what God is going to do for us, but it includes an exhortation for US to prepare our hurt, disappointed hearts, to receive the ones who broke our hearts back again. Those who have been lost to us have been lost for many reasons. Right now is the time to deal with our side of everything that happened. “Make a clean break with all cutting, backbiting, profane talk. Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.”(Ephesians 4:31)

It has taken me a long time to absorb the fact that I can add to my own struggle with others, by what I say.  If I choose to continually rehearse someone else’s sin over and over again, it may seem like a form of self-protection. Plus it seems like you are reminding yourself of what happened so you don’t fall for the same guff again! But the reality is, my self-talk can also cement someone else back into a place that no longer exists for them. That attitude, that action, only exists in my own memory. Personally, I am not who I was even last week – or last month – or last year! God is changing me, daily and boy do I need it! Let’s not colour in tomorrow’s miracles with yesterday’s half-dead felt-tipped markers. He’s doing something new. Hold on, it’s coming

The Lord is going to do what He has planned to do so quickly, that we will be astonished. So we need to prepare take the time to search our own hearts and minds now, with His help. Let’s start thanking Him for what comes next, and remember – you and I could have easily been the sheep that wandered off. None of us are exempt from the seduction of the spirit of stupid, in this funny old world of ours. Cultivating hope is a wonderful thing. đŸ‘‹đŸ»
