P 2952 The heart of God is restoration … not condemnation.

John 8 …“But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came back into the temple [court], and all the people were coming to Him. He sat down and began teaching them. Now the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. They made her stand in the centre of the court, and they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women [to death]. So what do You say [to do with her—what is Your sentence]?” They said this to test Him, hoping that they would have grounds for accusing Him.

But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with His finger. However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, “He who is without [any] sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Then He stooped down again and started writing on the ground. They listened [to His reply], and they began to go out one by one, starting with the oldest ones, until He was left alone, with the woman [standing there before Him] in the centre of the court. Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” She answered, “No one, Lord!” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you either. Go. From now on sin no more.”]”

The Lord Jesus Himself disposed of this woman’s accusers. Praise God, this shows us we can trust Him to dispose of ours, too. She was a nobody – yet God saw somebody! The Lord did not condemn her for her sin, He FORGAVE HER. Our job after acknowledging His Grace gift to us, is to release to other captives what we were freely given – because we are filled with the knowledge that we don’t deserve His GRACE either.

In this passage there is Love, Grace, Wisdom, Faith and Freedom, all over the Lord’s actions! Jesus knew they did not bring that woman to Him just to humiliate her – these scribes and Pharisees brought her to Him to accuse HIM! This incident was about Jesus, not just about that woman. It was a set-up, a sting!  But all Jesus had for her was compassion and forgiveness, plus the freely given opportunity to start a new life and live right before God. The greater sin was in the hearts of her accusers. Sometimes we ignore our sin because we choose not to see ourselves. We think of our actions as ‘good’ and condemn someone else because their actions are ‘bad.’

“However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, “He who is without [any] sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” When absolute truth is in front of us, we dare not refute it, nor should we try to – the best response is to own what we’ve done. Lies, bitterness, resentment, hatred, all these things produce shame and guilt and they thrive in darkness. That’s why we cannot tolerate them, and confession brings us into the light. We are His —  so now we are officially living in the Light, HIS light.

I often wonder if these religious men had stayed longer to press the issue, what might have come out about their lives? Some versions of this passage indicate the Lord wrote stuff about the woman’s accusers in the dirt at their feet. They were so quick to try and catch the Lord breaking the law, but then they slunk off when confronted with the power and love of God for forgiveness, present in the Person of Christ.

Right after the paragraph about this woman in John 8, Jesus proclaims that “He …is the light of the world”“”…He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” We cannot tell ourselves that we are following Jesus if we choose to tolerate darkness in ourselves. I’m not talking about what we watch on TV or even how we talk … I’m talking about our hearts – the attitude of our hearts toward others matters. Our hearts need to continually be filled with His light. His Presence loves the light. (James 1:17)

There are two points in this story, it is not just a story about Jesus forgiving an adulterous woman! In the church we can push the truth of what He said here away from us, and not take it in, by making this story about something we think we would never do!  Adultery. Jesus wasn’t trying to hurt these deeply religious men – He was exposing the darkness inside them that kept them captive. He came to save them too! Maybe they left because they didn’t want to confront the reality of who they had become.

Religion counts outward actions more important than the state of our hearts, but Jesus clearly said elsewhere, it is what comes out of our hearts that shows us what is inside! God does not expose our sin to shame us. He wants to set us free, and we need to be able to see our sin in order to come out of harmony with it. The attitude in the Pharisees that accosted this woman, and then tried to trap Jesus with what she was doing, is the same one that will drag us all under if we let it. We can easily see someone else’s sin as worse than ours!!

Religion imprisons us, it does not set us free. It excuses our behaviour and accuses someone else. That’s called deflection. Jesus did not approve of this woman’s lifestyle, instead He lovingly gave her an opportunity to change, that’s what He does! He gave the religious leaders that opportunity as well. They turned Him down. Walking away may not seem like a big deal, but postponement hardens our hearts. The heart of God is restoration not condemnation – HE loves to forgive…. He did not come here to condemn sinners – He came to SAVE them. Bye.🩸

May God bless you today, as you choose to take the time to remember what was freely done for you.

P 2842 Are people drawn to the light in us?

Mark 4:21-25: “He said to them, Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”

I think the reason we sometimes hide from the light, skip church, don’t read the bible, and we don’t pray – is simple. We don’t want to be convicted or convinced of our stinky attitudes. Maybe whatever we are doing, we don’t want to be found out, so we pronounce church things as ‘boring’… when the reality is – what is said comes way too close for comfort. Where is His light in your life currently at? Is it tucked away, under the bed? Many people build walls to keep them safe, a coffin has walls – a coffin is made for dead things.

As you can see from the above verse, hiding His light within us is a waste of time and energy. One day, everything we’ve said and done quietly, perhaps even sneakily – concerning Mrs Kerfoops across the road – will be shouted from the housetops.BUT!… “IF we confess our sins, He will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done.I LOVE 💕💕 THOSE LITTLE WORDS… BUT IF …!! This is a good time to praise God for His ongoing, always active, ever-forgiving love in our lives.

The awful stuff we hide from others, and – even worse – from ourselves! … needs confession and healing. Why not wipe the slate clean, make reparation wherever necessary and move on …??  The point Jesus is making in these verses is that the light of God’s Word is meant to shine in us, and through us, not be hidden away … so we can save face. We are not undercover brothers – WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. That’s why He said don’t put that light in a place where it can’t shine — the light of God is meant to be seen.

At the same time, the light and power of God within us, changes our perspective. It doesn’t just illuminate sin – it makes our surroundings clear and visible. There is way too much darkness all over this earth, because Christians look like everybody else. Being hidden doesn’t mean we are safe – it actually means the people around us can’t see our faith in action. Sadly, who we really are, is who we are when we are squeezed tightly by our circumstances. And no! I don’t much like that sentence either!!

You and I live wherever we live, because we are to be His light. So the people who live around us can clearly see the dirt and squalor they are choosing to live in. We don’t have to be pompous and look down our noses at others either. The plain truth is this world is currently living in a majority rules situation — they don’t have any light, because we are hiding who we are! God’s Love is His Light! Everyone will know we are Christians by our love, and because LOVE is a verb not a noun, this is something that others can see and experience for themselves. We are Christians – We choose to live and die, loving others

You and I are the front-line of what Jesus wants to do on the earth today. Forget people focussing on the pastor, they are looking at us to see if what we say we believe, is real. And if that sentence doesn’t give you and I something to reflect on, we’d all better think again. We aren’t just here to stand up for what we are against – we are here to shine His light and love around, everywhere we go.  His love, needs to be in every dark corner of this world. Loving Jesus means we are for the people He came to save. People were drawn to Him – are they drawn to us? On that happy little note, bye for now! 👋

P 2233 There is no light like His light.

The world we live in today does not like the light, so it has hidden and distracted itself away from it. Maybe they like to think it is more fun in the dark … but the real truth is, they don’t know any better. I am of the opinion that the church needs to stop throwing rocks and abuse at the-people-who-don’t-know-Him-yet, and begin to realise that we are also guilty of ignoring the light of God! What’s our excuse? We know the truth, and the-people-who-don’t-know-Him-yet don’t even know exactly WHO they are rejecting!

John 1:9-12 “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him.”

Just because we’ve been blessed by the Holy Spirit with spiritual insight that Jesus Christ IS Who He says He is – that does not mean we can skate merrily on by waiting for our turn to go to heaven one day. We act like salvation is the Lord’s final goal. His goal is transformation – which is a very b-i-g step beyond salvation. It’s called total surrender and it’s not just for the pastor or the evangelist.  Every single Christian has a purpose, a role in His plan. Let us recognise what we are here for and go and do it.

The power of recognition relies upon sight, and sight relies upon LIGHT. Sadly, the people of this world cannot see Christ, because the church is not being the LIGHT. Yet, the bible tells us clearly that we are to be the light of this world … Jesus said so: in Matthew 5:14:“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”  However, being the light doesn’t mean we just run about constantly pointing out the dark – it means we shine with the reality of Christ IN us. We glow with His light and love, and that ushers in illumination and revelation. The people around us will see the darkness when we shine.. “But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” Luke 5:8. Take the time to learn how to shine.

So, how does the Lord’s church in 2023 manage to remain hidden? By our personal, and denominational choices. We’ve said ‘yes’ over time to so many things that the Lord does not agree with, that this world hardly knows what we actually stand for. Sadly, when we do stand up and say: ‘Well, you can’t do that, that’s against our religion” … This world turns around and says – “Good gracious, are YOU still here?? I thought you’d all died off years ago.”

The world around us does not know Who Christ is because we’ve failed Him. Time to repent. We reduced the Living Word of Almighty God to images. A baby in a manger, a cross on a chain, a big black book. We are here to be His Word in this world, alive and visible to everyone around us. That’s what light does. It shows up what’s in the darkness by illuminating stuff.

In this current age, Christians would much rather tell this world where it is WRONG – than love them – we say: “it’s too hard to love them, they are impossible.” Instead of blaming them – it is time to examine ourselves! We need to live this life shining with His love for others. “They will know we are Christians by our love …”  For us that means ‘show’ as well as ‘tell.’  You know if we want to truly follow Jesus, like the disciples did, then we will have to walk down the same roads He walked on. Transformation into light happens on that journey.

Christianity is not meant to be a walk in the park, or a trip to a fun fair – with lots of groovy rides. We are on a death march. Our reward is not in this life. We have watered down the gospel to make it somehow more palatable, and doing that has diminished what Christ died to do. We need to repent before it is too late, or we will never reach our full potential in this life. Sadly humanity habitually thinks that we all have more time.

Our times are always in His hands … however, let’s remember that it is always time to be about our Master’s business. Even when we are very busy walking down some dusty road and we see someone bruised and bleeding in the dirt. We are never too busy to serve humanity. Christ wasn’t ever too busy – and being His light means we don’t have that option either.  👋🏻

P 2196 The danger of judgment.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5.

Other people’s flaws are not anyone else’s playground for entertainment. However, in today’s current society, other people’s actions are spread around like peanut butter and jelly! You can’t watch the news without being informed of this or that person’s dreadful behaviour – their condemnation is often the headline! I have noticed that when things are retracted, because they were wrong – the retraction is always teeny tiny and glossed over.

Lately I’ve noticed that judging our pastors and leaders has also become almost a national sport. Plus we criticise other denominations like somehow our truth is better than, or more right than – what they believe. I noticed recently that one very prominent church has hit the headlines again – and my first thought was: “Oh you poor things. Dear Jesus bring your truth into this mess. Amen. I have to be honest, my next thought was: “I am so glad I’m not anyone noteworthy, sadly I have plenty of things I’ve done and I would hate to have those things paraded around in front of the world!”

These things are hardly ever put into context. Jesus did not condemn the woman caught in adultery – He gave her protection from her accusers and a new way to live. We must never forget that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Christians have the power to speak life and hope into despair and devastation. We don’t need deliverance – we just need to stop doing it! Let’s treat any knowledge we have as a point of prayer. I think people judge others because they feel powerless. However, …“To whom much is given, much is required.”  I love an old OLD song by Stormie Omartian – I’m believing for the best in you …”

What I hear the Lord saying in Matthew 7, is that if we can see it, then we can definitely pray for it. And maybe we even have IT ourselves. Before you prepare a rope to lynch me for saying that, I just want to mention that sawdust comes from wooden planks! Our eyes can get gritty because we have done the same thing, though perhaps not on such a grand scale. Or … maybe nobody found out? Therefore we can recognise the other person’s plank because we know what it feels like personally. Again, another good reason to pray! That knowledge should promote kindness, forgiveness and empathy – not judgment. What’s wrong with them is also wrong with us.

The fact that the Lord says we will be judged the way we judge others, ought to scare the living daylights out of us! Yet we nod our heads and agree with the bible, and then toddle off to dismember this person or that relative – usually behind their backs. It is as if we lack the spiritual ability to see other people the way the Lord does. Yet we ARE the light of this world. We don’t lack light – sight should never be a problem for us! Jesus is saying don’t use the light we have to hurt people –use it to help others. Nothing will separate us faster from the precious Holy Spirit than judgment. “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24.

Personally, I want and need mercy, loads of it, every single day. Judgment is the most dangerous thing a Christian can participate in … Always remember, human beings judged Christ – anybody can be wrong. 👋🏻

P 2157 Take the veil off – it’s time for show and tell.

2 Corinthians 3:7-18 “Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

Therefore, since we have such a hope, WE ARE VERY BOLD. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only IN CHRIST is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, Who is the Spirit.

There are times when I think the reason many Christians act like people who are hiding, a people with a veil on,  because so many great Christian people have crashed and burned in front of the world. There is enormous pressure on the guys in the spotlight. So let’s go back to what Jesus said: “YOU are the light of the world.” That puts all of us in that spotlight.  When we left evangelism to the guys who were publicly known, we put them under intense scrutiny. I don’t think anyone can take that kind of scrutiny. It’s time for us to take off the veil we’ve all hidden behind, and let God’s glory be seen, in us and through us.

We must not be ashamed of, or hide the gospel. That’s kind of doing what Moses had to do back in Exodus and it is no longer necessary – the glory of God was destined to shine through us. Yes I mean today!  Ya might want to pause and think on that for a lifetime or so. 🤔 Moses had to hide his face way back then, because his face was shining with the light of God’s glory and the Israelites might have worshipped him! Today, our job is to be used by the Holy Spirit to unveil that which has been veiled in the past. We don’t have to have a veil over what we believe. We are destined to bring His revelation of His LOVE into this world. Do you want a ministry? THAT’S a ministry!

We’ve been given a love that suffers long, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things etc. etc. – now we get to give it all away. It is our time to be who we are IN Christ Jesus and to shine with His glory! To do that we need to become fully acquainted with how He works, Who He is – and start deliberately, daily following Him. We don’t need to be a paid-up member of that club to start now – its a choice… SomeBody Else paid our fees. The people-who-don’t-know-Him-yet may have a veil over their hearts, but knowing Jesus removes that veil for us – hiding our light under a basket isn’t in it!

Walking with the Spirit of God is not some sort of special ‘club’ that only a select few can belong to. The Spirit of the Living God rejoices over each and every single one of us. We can’t be born again without Him. He is the One Who guides, teaches, and transforms us into Jesus’ likeness, as we live each day to obey Him. Transformation is not a one time event, it is a daily walk made by our choices, with the help of the One Who went before us.  None of us will come out of that walk alive, instead we choose to die to ourselves. The Body of Christ needs to unveil the gospel, bit by bit, as it has been worked inside US. This means that the world can see it – live and in colour, through us! And if that scares you – then rejoice! Your heart is doing just fine – it is a good thing to have a holy fear of Holy Things.

In the years gone by, we told everyone around us about our own particular brand of Christianity, and most people said: “Thanks, but no thanks!” The bible explained that would happen, some people are happy to have veiled hearts that don’t want to learn – that’s not our business. Our job is to proclaim, to shine – not to convert. Happily God has no problem speaking to humanity, and He knows how to reach us all. The point is – PEOPLE NEED TO SEE JESUS in and through us. God’s glory is His goodness – the people around us need to see the goodness, the loving kindness of our God, through us.  We become living bibles. Walking, talking, living, showing and reflecting His glory, His love, to others – as a way of life. Even our responses to life’s difficulties make a difference.

So start cheering immediately if you can’t do that, because neither can I! Only ONE PERSON COULD – but praise God – JESUS CHRIST WAS ENOUGH!  Listen to this: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Yay! 🥳🎉 We can’t do this by ourselves, we have a Helper. The Body of Christ must rise and shine – it’s time for show and tell. 👋🏻

P 2152 “Who do YOU say that I am?”

Jesus asked this question once, and it is a great question to ask the Lord about ourselves. The Lord Jesus is our Saviour, we need to care what He thinks about us and the lives we live. We can all spend a whole lot of time justifying our lifestyles, and not enough time checking that lifestyle out with the King! Who are we in His eyes? Jesus sent His disciples out to work for God’s kingdom. Ya might want to think on that.

The bible says: we are the light of the world. But, we probably won’t ever stand on a stage and speak to thousands – meanwhile the Lord has already given each of us our own platform. We were never destined to be invisible, because if WE don’t speak, then how can He reach them? Right now, it’s way past the time that we must put ‘our beautiful feet’ into ‘the shoes of the gospel of peace’ and BE THE GOSPEL wherever we go. We have no guarantee about tomorrow – some of us may not be here.

However, it is too easy to get hung up on speaking the right words. Everybody feels awkward when they talk about their faith. Yet, so many people who came before us have said to themselves: ‘With the Lord as my Helper I will not be afraid. What can they do to me?’ We must all move out of our comfort zone and into the God-Zone and just do it.  We need to decide, for ourselves, that whoever is in front of us is OUR JOB. It’s not rocket science – simply love the person in front of you. Ask Him how.

Here are some other simple things to remember. We breath in and out, every single minute of every single day. This battle we are in is going to be won by our focus. So minute by minute, breathe IN His love for you … (look at the cross if you’ve forgotten how much He loves you) … and then breathe everything He died to give you OUT into the world around you. Whether the people in front of you deserve it or not. Forgiveness is heaven’s currency. We all want heaven on earth, but we won’t see it if we don’t trade in His currency! Do yourself a favour and stop expecting the Lord to adapt to you, your life, your feelings … He’s Almighty God – we adapt to HIM..

Another tip is to take a big breath before you decide to let someone have a piece of your grumpy mind. They probably don’t want what you wanna give them anyway. 😶 The reality is, we need to hit the pause button at the point of irritation or provocation and that takes self-control. (It’s a fruit of the Spirit.) And then… say nothing. No matter what the other person says – just say nothing. Why? It’s the back and forth niggly comments at each other that get us going in arguments. Here’s something else I’ve learnt the hard way – people can’t hear you clearly when you shout at them they turn their ears off. Living like this makes room for us to hear what the Lord wants to say in those difficult moments.

Next, value peace. Seriously. I’ve also learnt that nobody can take our peace away, we actually surrender it. Mind you, there are some people who know how to try to insist on stealing it, 😱 but they can’t make us give up what we want to keep. Here are some choices I face when there is a conflict: – “Do I have to be right? Do I actually need to explain myself? Or would I rather hang on to the peace that passes all understanding?

“A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city, and quarrelling is like the bars of a castle.” Proverbs 18:19. Don’t offend people and then get mad at them when they respond in kind! That’s called provocation. “Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others.” Ecclesiastes 7:21-22. Yeah. Excellent point.

Here’s yet another tip: We cannot decide to serve God all day, at breakfast, or whenever our quiet time is, and expect that this decision somehow covers the whole day. Do you really think the enemy of your soul is just going to go away and leave you alone because of a decision you made hours ago? To get strong we must repeatedly exercise our spiritual muscles – over and over and OVER again. I tell myself: “For His sake!”(I’m not shutting up for your sake – you just made me mad! 😂) I think the Lord is allowing this day-to-day stuff to badger us because we all need the practice.

You know, some electronic gizmos nowadays have a default button. When the stupid thing goes whoopsie, you can press the default button and it goes back to factory settings. We need Jesus as our default button. Even if ten minutes ago we were shouting at someone, let’s not write the whole day off, let’s go and find our peace and grab it again! He needs to be our reset button. Go, pray, exercise forgiveness, and repent lots.

Let other people teach you about your faults. This is very humbling, but instead of dismissing what someone else is saying, listen … take what is said seriously – they cared enough to make the point! Try doing the things they say. Ask the Lord to remind you to make adjustments. What they are saying could be HIM speaking to you. Don’t ever be too proud to learn from someone who seems like your enemy.

Lastly, ask yourself, who does God say I am? And then realise that adjustments may be required – maybe even a reset. I do more praying in the loo, than I do anywhere else. That’s because I need to reset my attitude and align it with His Grace, instead of chasing the wind of my thirst for vindication and revenge.  Bye. 👋🏻
