P 3414 Learn to stand still and value silence.

Most of the problems we face from day to day take place in a chaotic atmosphere, or they are sown by chaos, and we can’t easily get rid of the thoughts afterward. We have been given the power to enjoy huge blessings as we learn to live with His inner peace and we cultivate appropriate silence. We don’t have to let the babble of this world creep into our minds and hearts to distract us from the reason we are here.

When I am not deliberately watching something on TV, I turn it off. I had to learn to love silence. Actually, my brain makes more sense out of this life when there is very little noise! I learnt this blessing, when the last of my three children went off to school. My house seemed like a morgue. The first day I laid on the floor and cried my eyes out – but then I got up and went about my daily routine, and I turned on the telly, or the radio for ‘company.’

That was fine, but over time I discovered that I knew the latest ad jingle better than anything else, and I began to hear the Lord’s voice less frequently. Not good! Anything that is not good, by the way, is not God — He is where good comes from. Weeks went by, and His peace became more elusive. At the same time, I was struggling with the kind of grief that comes when one area of your life changes, and you know it won’t or can’t change back again. So, as a last resort, I decided to bite the bullet, go cold turkey and turn everything off. Man, was that hard? Mainly because I was so used to ambient noise. However, I persevered and things began to turn around, including my quiet times.

Now, every day silence is like an old friend. My dear hubby leaves me by myself to tap away on the computer, while I’m writing this blog in total silence, every single morning. I hear the Lord far more clearly when there is nothing distracting going on. I’d never want to condemn anyone … I totally understand how the distractions of this life can help someone survive something difficult. The thing is, for me, it was very detrimental to my overall spiritual health, and I found a far greater benefit in treasuring silence.

Those “still waters” of Psalm 23, plus Psalm 46’s call to “be still and know that He is God,” helped me. Every single day. Silence became “my secret place” of refuge. I’ve found I can far more easily be “only a spectator” like Psalm 91 says … when I prioritise silence. Hilariously, I’ve been known as a chatterbox, and I talked very early. Yet, as an adult, I found “my strength” came from cultivating His silence, inside and out. Now when His silence leaves, so does my peace! But now I can do something about it. This virtually unrecognised trait has become one of those many riches Christ has given to all of us. I recommend valuing it, because this world has so much froth and bubble, and silence can help keep you sane!

At the same time I believe we have also lost the value of standing still, knowing we have the Lord Jesus’ and His  righteousness on our side. The bible says that like this “…having done all, stand. (Ephesians 6.) We do whatever He tells us to do and then we simply quietly, confidently, stand. That other guy may try to jump up and down waving his arms at us trying to distract us from simply waiting for the Lord. Sometimes we can make so much noise trying to get rid of the enemy …we can’t possibly hear Jesus. Meanwhile satan is delighted with the adverse publicity! ‘Standing’ is all about believing God when He speaks to us and waiting for Him to do what He said He would do.

Abraham knew how to do these things, this man had incredible faith in God, in the middle of impossible circumstances. He is called the Father of our faith – His faith was that strong. He knew the value of silence and standing still and listening to God. Just pause and think about how much fun that must have been for his wife, Sarah! Abraham was often away somewhere talking with God, and the Lord gave him tremendous promises. This man chose to believe Almighty God, in spite of his circumstances, and he was made righteous by his belief in God’s words. However, maybe Sarah’s faith was not all that strong?

The Lord was very serious with Sarah. Let’s quickly look at her experience, when three strangers announced that these two geriatrics would have a child. We quickly see that they are two different people who happen to be married to each other, and they each have different responses to God’s word. Three strangers turn up to predict Isaac’s birth in Genesis 18:10 -15… “Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him…  Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing … So Sarah laughed to herself …(and then she denied it )… “I didn’t laugh.” But the Lord said, “Yes you did; you laughed.”  God held Sarah accountable. She would have been better off if she’d stood still and said nothing!

Father God takes what we say seriously. We need to stand on what we tell the Lord we will do, or what He tells us to do, no matter what we feel, or what happens around us. “Don’t take your faith back” – is one of the most useful pieces of advice the Lord has ever given me. Be brave, silent, and stand still. Hold onto Him and hold Him to His word and don’t let go. We can give up too easily, and lose what is ours. Learning to live in silence and stand still, while we are waiting for what He will do next, are two qualities that are greatly underestimated. I’ve learnt to practise them, on purpose. Bye. 👋.

P 3413 Let’s not paint on windows of our mind.

Fear, and sin love to paint their tormenting little scenarios in our minds. I like to be positive on this blog, but the bible clearly says we need to ‘know our adversary.’  And one of his best tricks is to make me think that my adversary is … ME, MYSELF AND I!! I am sure you know what I mean – we often forget what the Lord has already done to set us free.

When something bad happens, we can instantly find reasons to blame ourselves. But what really happens is the other guy stands by whispering into our minds, reminding us of our mistakes and faults. Our poor motivation starts with a thought. Then he tempts us with something we think is good that distracts us from the real battle. God doesn’t tempt us. James 1:13: “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God” [for temptation does not originate from God, but from our own flaws]; for God cannot be tempted by [what is] evil, and He Himself tempts no one.” Find the ‘fatal flaw’ and deal with it.

The enemy uses doubt like a spray can of paint while he is trying to twist or cover up the truth. Plus he tries to disrupt our thoughts with temptations, threats or intimidation. It happened to Jesus and it will happen to us, we are not exempt. But, because we chose Jesus we have a way to escape, thank you Lord! Knowing the Word of God is our way to fight! Let’s be alert and aware of the devil’s schemes, and remember how easily we can be outwitted. 2 Corinthians 2:11. “…in order that satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.”

Our enemy will always challenge God’s word. (Genesis 3.) he has no tender-heartedness, or pity in him, so he delights in preying on our ignorance or innocence. And another way he sucks us into his vortex of lies, is to challenge our identity in Christ. (Luke 4:1-13; Mark 1:34.) He tells us those promises in God’s Word are for someone much nicer and more spiritual than we are. Many saints suffer from his whispers that their salvation is not firm.

Our salvation, our turning to Jesus to save us, may not look like Brother-I-got-baptised-in-the-river-Jordan’s grand event. Instead, we simply went up the front and didn’t feel a thing … but we knew we had to make that choice and we did. Our enemy picks at the parts of our faith that are weakened by our own sin, doubt, and sometimes other people’s rejection of us etc. Daily, he prods at us to focus on those things.

Let’s focus on Jesus, what He did FOR us, and what He is doing IN us, right now. He is our true north! My prayers may not be answered and sometimes yours aren’t either … but that’s not the point. The point is what is your focus today? If we are not clinging to Jesus like a limpet on a rock, we could be making ourselves a target. The devil creates emotional tornadoes everywhere, and we can be easily overwhelmed by those thoughts that hit us upside the head … unless we choose to make the main thing the main thing. JESUS IS ALWAYS THE MAIN THING. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7. We cannot afford to face our adversary unprotected – we have armour! Let’s stand still ready to battle the accuser when he flings lies at us. We do things the way Jesus tells us to do them. He’s the One Who beat satan.

Under extreme circumstances, which we all face, it is good to SING! — “Be filled with the Spirit singing to yourselves, with Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melodies in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:18,19. Preferably not out loud in a public place, because people will look at you funny and perhaps send for the men in those white coats. I sing in my head, and I recommend that. I find my best fighting scriptures there too. It can be distracting if you happen to be talking to someone else, but it works – stay in listening-to-Jesus-mode, don’t switch off.

The bible tells us to “put on the whole armour of God,” because we need it. Ephesians 6:10-18. The first thing we do after making sure we have our armour on —is to make a stand. Plant your feet. You are a tree planted by God Himself by the riverside, don’t be moved. We have been saved by Grace, now we belong to Jesus. Ask for scriptures to fight the circumstances and feelings … we can’t afford to let ourselves entertain any kind of lie. Don’t worry if the person in front of you is piling up lies like some people pile up the trash – don’t you lie. Your truth is God’s truth, and that’s the bat we use to bash away the lies that come at us. We don’t care about what Sister-I-always-know-the-Answer says. What is Jesus saying, right here, right now – in His book?

Let’s press the refresh button, and remind ourselves that God loves me! Then quickly get rid of any sin that might trip us up, so we can stay in love with everyone around us. Peace is our portion. We live within His peace, and we spread that heart peace around us everywhere we go. As we acknowledge Jesus’ Lordship in our lives, we will get better and better at raising up the shield of faith.

Lastly, let the Holy Spirit frame your prayers. Yield to His will His way, daily. And please don’t let satan paint lies on the windows of your mind. They will block out the marvellous things the Lord has given us to see and do.  Bye.🔥.

P 3412 I will choose to know Christ Himself.

“Yet all of the accomplishments that I once took credit for, I’ve now forsaken them and I regard it all as nothing compared to the delight of experiencing Jesus Christ as my Lord! To truly know Him meant letting go of everything from my past and throwing all my boasting on the garbage heap. It’s all like a pile of manure to me now, so that I may be enriched in the reality of knowing Jesus Christ and embrace Him as Lord in all of His greatness.” Philippians 3:7-8 TPT.

We will get to know Jesus, day by day, particularly as we choose to live using our faith all the time. Don’t take a day off – it’s not worth it! It is great to know that we are His kids, saved by His grace, but I still need to be able to do the ordinariness of life. That day by day routine and include Him in those things too. So when we wash up – we glorify Him, when we go to work – we glorify Him. We are His kids, and we bear His Name, so our attitude to the ordinariness of life matters. Let’s be careful that we do not over-glamourise what Christianity looks like in action. Some of my most profound learning curves have turned up on a day that looked just like the one that went before it.

I believe we start living like this by putting into practice letting go of the past. We can oversimplify what that means. This thought isn’t just about the fact that you were bullied and tormented in school long, long ago, or whatever other dreadful thing happened to you. This life is far more about what is going on today! Stop and think for a minute … what did you do yesterday that you regretted afterward? Maybe you snapped at someone who didn’t understand what you were trying to say, and things were left awkward between you. When we talk about letting go of the past, the past is also the last two seconds, not just something that happened when you were five!

“Catch us the little foxes, it is the little foxes that spoil the vine …” Song of Solomon 2:15…  Sometimes we can get stuck over someone else’s big sins against us, and the little things that we do can be easily glossed over. Our responses to someone else’s rotten attitudes are still our responsibility. In plain language – let’s learn to own our own attitudes. Specks and planks anyone? Matthew 7:3-5. Nobody makes us do anything, any compulsion we feel indicates a stronghold. Strongholds can be broken and our attitudes come from inside us.

In a movie I saw recently, the heroine made this remark: “Oh, I don’t do the past… it’s so over …!!” That remark made me laugh because it is exactly my meaning today. Let’s leave the past behind and make today a better day. We will get nowhere fast if all we do when we look at someone who has hurt us, is to see them through the lens of their past sins. Caution is great. But building a whole doctrine around something, just so we can stay in the slums of our own stupidity is dumb. Paul has a bit to say about that too.

“I admit that I haven’t yet acquired the absolute fullness that I’m pursuing, but I run with passion into His abundance so that I may reach the purpose for which Christ Jesus laid hold of me to make me His own. I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead.” Philippians 3:12-13 TPT.

None of us have acquired the absolute fullness we are pursuing … however,  it is way too easy to forget that we have something else we can do, when this kind of attitude is bashing on our door. Jesus has the richest kind of abundance that never runs dry. So I can use my disgruntled, painful energy to run toward Him instead. When I do that I am not injuring anyone else.

At the same time … I can choose not to be flattened by my own penchant for playing in the dirt of my perception of what you did and why! I can’t know that, and what does it matter anyway? I’m going to need all my energy to run after Him. Otherwise I’m dragging yesterday’s garbage behind today’s list of things I must do!! Let’s discipline ourselves and learn, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to keep short accounts. Because our aim is to bring His love with us, not drag along garbage.

We can also get so caught up in yesterday’s victories that we forget that today is another day to praise and glorify Jesus for what He has done in us, and through us. Here’s something that helps me heaps. When we glorify the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit we become immersed in what surrounds Them … in Their love. They have perfect love between Them. We need the Trinity. Even a glimpse of Who They are, individually and together, will overwhelm us. Doing that will take our eyes off ourselves, and put our thoughts squarely back onto why we are here.

I will choose to know Christ Himself, instead of focussing on me, so I will deal with my past. That stuff that is recent, plus the long term, and pull my focus back onto everything that the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit have done for me. That’s a great, ever-present overriding thought, on any day. Bye.👋.

P 3411 Our hearts are so important…

… they show us what’s inside us. Our lives today seem to be all about experiences, good and bad ones. We are raising an instant gratification kind of generation. The result is many people have become cautious about using their faith — yet we are told very clearly that we cannot please God without using it. The glory of Jesus Christ is that He has already walked this earth with the same kinds of stubborn, decadent and hard hearted people that are alive right now.

The Lord deliberately walked through His life, with Love, Grace and Truth all over Him, and the men who walked with Him, wrote it all down. At any given moment you and I can read about what Almighty God wants from His kids, because now we have a physical illustration, of God’s will for mankind, Christ Himself. As well as a signed document — the bible.

This book is a serious eternal document. The Lord Jesus signed the New Covenant in His own blood! “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28. The proof of what Jesus did is not only written down. It is signed. When we come to Jesus to save us, we sign our part of that document with our faith, that’s why we are baptised. We are choosing to give Him our lives so that we can live for Him.

“For this reason He (Jesus) is the Mediator and Negotiator of a new covenant [that is, an entirely new agreement uniting God and man], so that those who have been called [by God] may receive [the fulfilment of] the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has taken place [as the payment] which redeems them from the sins committed under the obsolete first covenant.” Hebrews 9:15-18. Like I said, this new covenant is a serious thing not lightly entered into.

Our faith when it is in action looks like this: I do what the bible says, based upon the fact that I believe the bible is God Himself speaking to me. This means I choose to add my life (substance), to those words … those things that were only words before I acted on them. I started my new life by being baptised, (an action), and I continue to live in it by obeying His Word. I can’t trust my feelings, they will tell me it’s too hard and I can’t do this or that. So I need to use my faith to obey. He has promised to help me. I give time from my life to do whatever He asks me to do, and when I do that I am putting His new life in me, into whatever I am doing.

My actions prove my faith is real whether I get to see the results I want or not. When I choose to live using my faith, I am investing my own here-and-now life into what I’ve read, and Almighty God promises I will see results. If not here, then I will in heaven. What I do daily, shows the world that what Jesus asks me to do, is worthy of everyone’s attention, because my faith in Who said it, has motivated me into acting on it. There can be no faith without accompanying actions. We don’t pick and choose what we will obey — the Holy Spirit chooses those things for us.

Many people feel around trying to find faith, when their faith  actually becomes evident by the way we respond to God and each other. Faith is not a feeling, it is a way to live. Just like being a business person or a doctor is a way to live. Jesus Christ lived by using His faith, and then His disciples chose to live and die for it, and so have many others.

Like you, I’ve set my heart on being obedient with the Holy Spirit helping me. That’s what faith looks like, it is always on standby, ready to do whatever He tells me to do. I am prepared to look like a goose and to have other people question everything I say or do. I know that every time I obey, I will get another glimpse into the One I have chosen to follow. Jesus walked this way when He walked the earth. “This is because I have never spoken on My own authority or of My own accord or as self-appointed, but the Father Who sent Me has Himself given Me orders [concerning] what to say and what to tell.” John 12:49.

People often say to me that they do not hear God’s voice. Today, I don’t want to go into impressions etc. or thoughts that stand out in our mind. My point today is that we have a BOOK FULL of things God told us to do. I tell people to begin with the Beatitudes, but the gospels have loads of instructions. Find something you don’t do and do that! Ask the Lord to help you and then just go and do it. Let God Himself tackle how the other person responds. Obedience to His word releases heaven. We are literally becoming a part of “… on earth, as it is in heaven.”

Many hurt people don’t want to forgive, because it seems like they are giving someone else a licence to do whatever they did in the first place, all over again! That bit is not ours, we are forgetting God inhabits GRACE. Proverbs 4:23 tells us that He’s interested in our hearts not our feelings. “Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.” Our part is to guard our hearts. Faith is not just about results, it is far more about a freely given life of sacrificial obedience to Jesus.

When we pray and want to be like Jesus, we will end up walking the same roads He walked. We will have to forgive people who are not sorry. Sometimes it seems like they will never ever acknowledge what they’ve done, and most of the time they think they are right and you are wrong! But that bit is out of our control. This life is about the state of our own heart. The Lord cares about that, because our responses show what is inside us. Just keep presenting your “paid in full” cheque, signed by Jesus Himself.  The Lord paid for them. He paid for you. Guard your heart and walk on. Bye. 👋

P 3410 God is Limitless.

“But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.” Galatians 5:22 TPT.

This kind of limitless love is not only ours to receive, but it is also ours to give away. We already have His overflowing love to give to everyone we meet … within us. When we have Jesus Christ in our lives, we have limitless love available to us. It’s our purpose. Just like birds sing, because it is what they do … we give away love. It’s natural. And it means we choose to stretch our faith by using it, instead of just talking about it. The thing to remember is that when we give away all of those things mentioned in Galatians 5, it is HIS love in different forms.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t seem have endless patience! However, I don’t have to have endless patience, I’ve learnt to ask Him for it, and then step out in faith and exercise it. This is a demonstration of His love through me, for someone else – and I give it away by not letting what I’m really thinking fly out of my mouth to punch someone else in the face! While I am doing this, two things are happening, I am learning self-control, and I am also learning what God’s kind of patience looks like. Meanwhile, I’ve also learnt that not everyone we meet needs our opinion.

LOVE, God’s kind of love – hopes all things, bears all things and it never gives up. Even though WE aren’t automatically like that, we can learn His kind of love by responding to His word using the faith, He has given us. The bible teaches us, in2 Peter 1:3: ”His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and goodness.” WE ALREADY HAVE IT!

So whenever we meet true joy, we are meeting His love. When we meet endless patience, we’ve met His love in action. even when we experience never faltering faith, this means we’ve encountered and been operating from the presence of His Love. We need to stop expecting other people to bring these things to us on a platter and start living a sacrificial life, because that’s what Jesus told us to do.

Love has so many expressions. That is what Galatians tells us. In our society, love has been downgraded into feelings, but God’s Love is a powerful limitless force – it constantly displays itself through actions. The Love that God Himself has for mankind displayed itself in Jesus Christ, and that is clearly explained for us in Galatians 5, and 1 Corinthians 13. Through these words, Almighty God’s passion for mankind’s destiny is revealed. It was fulfilled by Christ, and then released – and now it is a part of our history!

Everything around us is a part of His story! Jesus Christ is Father God’s Way of endlessly saying “I love you and I forgive you.”  He says this to each of us personally, and those words are also an everlasting promise to all of mankind. Jesus is God’s Love perfectly personified. So what does that mean to me? I left my old self behind when I said ’yes’ to Jesus, now – day-by-day I choose to live that out. Read the book and see the Lord Jesus’ responses to other human beings. Do the same. He didn’t lecture people, He taught them when He had the opportunity and it was necessary, but most of the time He simply demonstrated what God’s love looks like in action.

Whenever we read about what Jesus did, do we nod our heads in agreement, smile, and go about our day without any thought of participation? This revelation of GOD’S LOVE CAN BE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED, daily. We are His demonstrators. As we read His Word, worship Him, talk and pray with others, or walk around enjoying everything He made, we are experiencing His love for us. Let’s pray for eyes to see Him at work in our lives and hearts.

His kind of love was created to be given away, not kept in a box hidden from other people. God’s love is like the bread and fish that Jesus gave to the disciples, to give to the people who were hungry. Because we’ve been fed by His love, now we give it away. The disciples saw the miracle of multiplication He performed. That’s all WE do. We give away what He has given us, and He multiplies it.

And we give it away in the same form we receive it – by using our faith. Most days I don’t ‘feel’ anything when I sit down and start to write this blog. I start typing as He opens up His thoughts to me in ways that I can understand them. If you like titles, then let’s say that the Lord gives me insight. He takes the scriptures in the bible and turns it upside down and explains to me: ‘This works like that.’ That is how I write this blog. I am not wise, sometimes the phrases in the bible sound to me like someone tipped over a scrabble bag. But, as I pray, the Holy Spirit enlightens me. The second before that insight I’m as dumb as dirt. But there’s one thing I do know, He tells me stuff for ME first, then I am allowed to share it with you. And the Lord chides me if I am not doing what I write here.

At the same time, I’ve learnt to press in, and ask questions. I marvel that SomeOne so wonderful, bothers to share with someone like me. That’s why I like to encourage others to press in and then act upon what the Lord says. I’m not special, but I know that He wants to relate to each one of us in personal, practical ways. His ways are limitless and they are there for the taking for everyone who wants more. Bye for today, 👋.

P3409 Watch your head, Fred.

Years ago, there was a saying – “don’t get too big for your boots.” It was wise advice that warned anyone not to become fat headed in a situation that turned out very well. It means – don’t covet the applause. I think many of us can do this more easily than we care to admit, mainly because we need approval more often than we care to admit, and it can go to our heads!

Our Heavenly Father is so kind to us, but sadly we can start to think our church, or our denomination, are the only ones who have God’s favour. Mainly because of His gifts, or prevalent spiritual attitudes, someone’s ability to prophesy. At times we are influenced by the way we regard other people’s sin. EG: my sin is little … yours is … HUGE! “For who regards you as superior or what sets you apart as special? What do you have that you did not receive [from another]? And if in fact you received it [from God or someone else], why do you boast as if you had not received it [but had gained it by yourself]?” 1 Corinthians 4:7. That kind of puts a lid on it, doesn’t it?

There is a very important balance that we need to maintain in our lives, and we will definitely need the Lord’s help to do it. Being someone important in today’s church communities has perks. So if you are known as wise, or you have a visible gift, or you are seen as spiritual — people can treat you differently. They think you have some sort of formula that means you can tackle life better than they can. Christians do this because they only see the man or woman of God in front of them. They miss the marvellous, glorious, multi-faceted loving God behind them! It is error to focus on a person, not on the One Who has given us the gifts. We end up over-emphasising people, and ignoring or diminishing our God Who gave this gift to them, and the church.

So many Christians are following a man or woman! It is great to identify gifts, but if that person makes a mistake or falls down, we are more inclined to vilify them, instead of helping them up again. Human beings can’t live with that kind of intense scrutiny. What we are looking at when someone has these incredible gifts is God Himself in action, through a human being. That human being is fallible! But God is NOT. I’ve met many Christians who follow Brother I-have-the-gift-of-miracles, or Sister I-can-prophesy-at-the-drop-of-a-hat, but they left their church because the person they were following turned out to have feet of clay. We must look beyond the person and see our Generous Father Who loves to give and give and give.  Please, please don’t follow a person —FOLLOW JESUS!

Love your pastor, support his ministry, and praise God for the man or woman of God and the gifts He has given them. Fantastic. But don’t put them in a place that was never theirs in the first place! This life has plenty of hard knocks in it, and it can turn anyone’s head to find that they are being appreciated for something that was given to them before they were ever born. Unfortunately those actions transform from faith in Almighty God, into a performance from the platform. We need a holy REVERENCE for God Himself…  “The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding.” Proverbs 9:10.

Let’s acknowledge what Father God has graciously given us when He gave us so many gifts — but those gifts will never surpass the generosity of the Giver.  When Ananias and Sapphira decided to be clever and cheat God — they got dead in the process. Those people who saw it fell on the their faces in the reverential fear of the Lord. They saw beyond those two dead people in front of them, to the God Who deserved far better … and they responded. We can wait for God to appear in our churches like He did that day with Ananias and Sapphira, or we can choose to get on our faces and give God the glory He will always deserve, right now! Whether we feel Him or not.

It is a terribly demeaning thing when we tolerate popularity in the church, and we choose to see one church as better than another. Our churches are to depend on Him, we do not control Him. He must always be in His rightful place. As the King of our hearts, our Saviour, our Lord, and our Master. It is always our joy to serve our King – even if we are cleaning out the church bathrooms.

Let’s remember that He is not with us to be at our beck and call. Before we got here He was here, when we’ve gone … He will still be here. That’s what everlasting means. It is not just a matter of respect, we all need more reverence. We can respect an enemy and still hate them. Reverence on the other hand, means we cherish every moment with Him. He’s the reason we get out of bed, each day. We listen carefully for a word, a whisper of our precious Saviour in our hearts.

Too many greatly needed saints have fallen over because we’ve lost, a deep loving awe, and profound respect for our Heavenly Father. We put those poor people on a pedestal and they fell off! When and if God uses anyone, we need to watch our head, Fred, because human beings can quite easily get puffed up by acclaim. Bye 👋.

P3408 King David, an example of God’s faithfulness.

“Holy Spirit, there is nowhere I can run to escape Your Presence! You won’t give up on me because You are too kind to leave me the way You found me. You guide me, counsel me, and show me the paths that lead to life. Today, make me more aware of Your goodness so that I can share Your goodness with others.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Isn’t this a great prayer? I didn’t write it by the way, I wish I had! It contains some beautiful truths about Who our Father is, plus it reveals His character, His intentional engagement with us and His ever-present, unfailing love for each one of us. Personally, there have been so many days when remembering His love keeps me going. Today I read Psalm 34:1-3.…“Lord! I’m bursting with joy over what You’ve done for me! My lips are full of perpetual praise. I’m boasting of You and all Your works, so let all who are discouraged take heart. Join me, everyone! Let’s praise the Lord together. Let’s make Him famous! Let’s make His Name glorious to all.”

This is David speaking and he is talking about his favourite subject, God Himself.  ‘David wrote this Psalm after escaping from King Achish of Gath. He was constantly being pursued by King Saul, so he fled to a Philistine city. And when he was recognised he feigned madness to escape execution. He wrote this Psalm when he was finally safe.’

So this man, this King-in-waiting — who refuses to take his God-delegated throne by force, has been running away from practically everyone and yet he still so focussed on God’s goodness and kindness that when he is finally safe – JOY comes out, not just relief! These verses really made me think. When some hardship or other comes along, what is my reaction? Can I still see the Lord in the middle of my life crashing in on me on every side? When everyone else deserts me, am I incredibly glad He is still with me?

I’m not prepared to share my answer, it embarrassed me. It is not a sin to try to pray away our troubles and strife, even if we have caused the mess ourselves. But true heart repentance is only available to us as we begin to understand we can’t do anything at all without Him. Humility of heart is a huge key and David had it. As I see it, problems come up when we are so focussed on whatever is going on, we can’t see God in our situation anymore. And then — sadly — we actually stop looking for Him … because we are too busy trying to fix things on our own.

Here’s another Psalm, written by David at another time. This Psalm is addressing yet another terrible situation. He has been betrayed, again, and he is desperate for deliverance from those who seek to kill him. “Trust only in God every moment! Tell Him all your troubles and pour out your heart-longings to Him. Believe me when I tell you—He will help you! Pause in His Presence.” Psalms 62:8. David’s first thought is: “God is faithful, He will help me!” Meanwhile, can you believe this guy wrote PSALMS while he was running for his life??

It seems to me that this man’s heart was so precious to God because under pressure all that came out was David’s faith in our Heavenly Father’s goodness. He knew about God’s unswerving faithfulness to us. Here’s another important scripture for us to think on today:  “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.” Psalm 51: 10,11.

These verses are great ones to pray over ourselves. While  the rest of the world runs about trying to impress the Lord with their great exploits, David understands the way to God’s heart lies through the way we regard Him … and this prayer shows us that we can ASK for a right heart.  We simply need to accept His Way of doing things is not the same as ours.

What an example to us David’s life is. As we read about him we watch him run, stumble, and also fall. In times of ease, he gets complacent. and he forgets Who he is serving ,and makes terrible mistakes. Yet his faith in God’s goodness is outstanding, and his ability to repent is monumental. It is almost like David had no deliberate thoughts about how to  cultivate his heart – rather his responses come from not being able to bear the separation sin brings.

Because David is God’s idea of a heart that is right before Him, I think we need to note that it is this man’s belief that God is good, that holds him fast in that attitude. It has nothing to do with his actions, but everything to do with his responses. These difficult situations, in the main, aren’t about what King David is actually doing … with the notable exception of Bathsheba. Instead, they are far more about someone else’s jealousy of David’s position before God. An ambitious heart sometimes envies someone else’s pure motivations. It will often credit the other person with the same motivations they have.

David’s love and passion for God’s Presence drove every other thought out of his mind.  When he allowed his humanity to overtake him, he immediately remembered that God is a God of forgiveness, and he threw himself on His mercy. He never forgot our Heavenly Father is faithful and despite our  circumstances, our God will help us! Bye. 👋.

P3406 Living like the bible is true.

Every single day, many people reading this blog get on public transport, or maybe they walk or get into a car, and head off to their place of employment. Before they go, they don’t check out how many accidents have occurred to their type of bus or train or car – they just get in the vehicle and GO. They have put their faith in arriving on time, and in one piece. We all need this kind of faith in God’s Word. What if we treat His Word the same way we treat ordinary things like public transport? What if instead of this life being clouded by stuff, we responded to Jesus’ teaching like He is in the room with us?

Instead of remembering those things that we think didn’t work, our thoughts need to be continually drawn back toward what Jesus has said and already done. Then all of the focus goes off me and my efforts, and over onto His finished ministry. His ministry benefitted every single one of us. Let’s live like we believe that.  Instead of living this life randomly, remembering Jesus at oddly choreographed moments — or perhaps when the roof falls in —- He needs to become the centre of everything we give our lives to.

So when we go to work, raise our kids, interact with others …  even our leisure time … is now lived for Jesus. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” Colossians 3:23.  As we choose to live this way, we will be transformed daily, because living this way means we are using our faith. Over time, our thinking will change— it shifts to what Jesus wants from me and what He did for me. Now I read the bible listening for Him to speak to me.

There is no need for a debate about whether I should forgive or not. That’s a done deal. I give freely and love others without thinking up good reasons why I shouldn’t!  There is no longer a debate going on inside me. Nothing is about  who is right and who is wrong— our new life in Christ is about knowing what He says and living my life the way Jesus would. Every choice, every step we make to do things His way, is a step or choice toward total transformation. So we choose to respond to things the way He would, because we can be like Him. And in this process our own ideas, plans and programs fall away. He becomes the central pivotal point – not what Sister-always-has-an-opinion thinks, or Brother-if-you-don’t-believe-what-I-believe-you-are-going-straight-to-hell thinks! Our thoughts centre on what does the bible say, and what would Jesus do??

It seems to me that we’ve mistaken authority for dictatorship, and they are not the same. Nor are we ruled by a consequences consensus. That’s what gave us all these denominations in the first place. Is Christ divided? 1 Corinthians 1:13 says otherwise. The Apostle Paul was utterly brilliant — until God Himself blasted him and threw him off his horse — then he also had to learn to think about absolutely everything he had already known from Christ’s perspective. Meeting Jesus didn’t just change this man’s mind, it changed his life! God must have given Paul a huge dose of humility on that trip to heaven!

The way to be transformed is to make the same choices Jesus made. He chose to die to what He wanted, or thought he needed, to live for the will of His Heavenly Father. By the way, it is one thing to metaphorically die to self — it is totally another to lay there and let someone else do it for you. That spouse, that neighbour, that boss, that child who drives you mad, is God’s grinding wheel to transform your life. And if it seems like it is killing us … that is what it is supposed to do! It is part of the process of dying to ourselves and daily learning to live for Jesus. It is as real as those nails and that cross were. Let’s use our faith to step out of the boat of this world’s opinions and start moving into our Heavenly Father’s ways. What if what we know about the Lord was more real than the things around us?

We learn grace when we choose to act like Jesus would  toward people who are not treating us well. Have you noticed that today many people have the most amazing energy to persecute others? It goes on and on – like most TV soapies. We can choose to default on our God-given new life arrangement, and many Christians do. It is so much easier to explain away the bits we feel we can’t do. But it is far better to seek out what He says in the bible, particularly in the New Testament. It’s not difficult to think like Jesus does, it is just very hard on our flesh.

When we live, day by day, moment by moment choosing to follow the Lord, we are choosing LIFE. ABUNDANT LIFE.  We have yet to see fully what that means, we simply know that Jesus Himself lived like this. Heaven comes down, because heaven is attracted to the smell of sacrificial living, when it is done for Jesus’ sake. Let’s keep this fact before our eyes, Father God sacrificed His Son to redeem anyone who wants to be saved. That shows us that what we run away from, the Lord goes toward.

As we live like His Way of thinking, doing and being is true, and it is — that’s when our faith-filled actions lead to His truth totally saturating and inhabiting our lives. Faith is the pathway into this new way of life God has given us. We don’t just live this way to raise the dead, we also live that way to raise our hopes when all seems lost. That faith that saved us, will transform our lives as we use it day by day. It all starts with what we SAY or choose not to SAY.

Living the way Jesus Himself did, day by day, by loving others and choosing to obey Him – means we are living like the bible is true. IT IS. We will continue to have only a little of the power of God, while we choose to put our faith into simply being saved. I believe that power is released through walking by faith in love, humility, daily releasing His grace to others, and following Him. Bye. 👋.

P3405 We are God’s poems, in this world.

“We have become His poetry, a re-created people that will fulfil the destiny He has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfil it!” Ephesians 2:10.

And you thought you were not all that valuable! You and I are daily becoming a poem, a individual and collective Psalm to the glory, goodness, grace and long-suffering kindness of Almighty God. And if that doesn’t make you smile, then I’m concerned for you! Father God doesn’t make mistakes, so neither of us can be one… and neither can anyone else.

Say this to yourself – ‘God says I have a destiny, because He has given me one. I am not a mistake or a screw up. I’m here for my Father’s glory and honour.’  Amen. Father God is so present and engaged with all of us. Sometimes we don’t see Him because we aren’t looking. There is no task in our lives that is too small. You know, the lug nuts on our car tyres hold the wheels on – they don’t look important, but if they all come off, so does the wheel. Our wheels can start to come off if we believe what we do is irrelevant.  We cannot afford to let our limited human thinking, limit Almighty God.

Because He IS limitless, humanity is still discovering those things that are old news to Him. Yet He has hidden treasures for us in this world, things that we are only just discovering now. We think we are clever when we find them. But just imagine how brilliant Father God is — HE HID IT! My advice is “don’t limit God” — and never think your problems are too big for Him, instead ask Him to help you with them. Remember, He is writing all this down because … your life is a poem.

People are so funny! They ask the Lord for a parking spot if they need one, but they don’t see world affairs the same way. Our lives are governed and planned out for us by Him, and we’ve found, because of Jesus, we’ve met people we would never ever have met. That’s how BIG His plans are for us. There is a surprise at every turn, so we’ve come to appreciate the small things He does. Years ago, we were driving around in the wilderness area of Tasmania. We were in a very remote area delivering bibles when we recognised someone in another car, who had pulled off the road.

This person is famous, they are on Australia-wide TV all the time. We turned around … because God said …”Turn around” and we went back and gave this guy a bible. We chatted briefly, and then left. To be honest I am not sure he appreciated what we gave him all that much, but he was very gracious about it. At the time, we were the only two cars on that road! For the next few years of his life, this particular man had more trouble than Job did. Did he use that bible? I dunno!! We sure prayed for him! I know we were part of a much larger plan from the Lord to get his attention, we became a part of the poem He is writing over that person’s life.

That’s the secret to recognising your destiny as the Holy Spirit writes your ‘poem.’ Please don’t ever think you have to be the whole ball-game … Eg … the batter, the pitcher, the short-stop, the umpire … instead, wait in the dug-out for your turn. God will call you when He needs you. When He wants me to say something, He says: “You’re on!” Most of the time I don’t even know what to say, but it isn’t ever about what I say — it’s about carrying the One Who I am walking with. Peter recognised the eternal quality that was in Christ, when he said to Jesus “… You alone have the Words of eternal life.” So whatever Jesus says, has LIFE in it.

Part of our daily focus is about paying attention to the process of being re-created. Poetry is about the little phrases just as much as the big ones, so let’s seize any seemingly minor opportunities and follow them through. Sometimes when the Lord does stuff, He doesn’t need a brass band! The Holy Spirit loves to speak in whispers, nudges, and thoughts. Be encouraged and follow the thread and do what He says. The Holy Spirit and our Lord Jesus are with us to help us with our daily lives. Remember, Jesus is the Living Word, if anyone knows what to say – He does!

You and I are poems that are destined to glorify Him. One day we’ll be dead and gone, but the Holy Spirit will continue to write poems over people’s lives until Jesus comes back! It is in God’s incredible nature to appreciate beautiful things, but His idea of beauty is not the same as ours. We see beautiful things as an arrangement of features and physical attributes – the Trinity sees beauty as an inside job. Mother Teresa was stunning – a glorious loving poem written to God’s glory!

Finally, let’s remember that we are not our own, anymore. SomeBody bought and paid for us. “We were purchased with a preciousness…” 1 Corinthians 6:20. Verses like these are written right throughout our very own Psalms to remind us of Jesus’ grace and obedience toward us. It is our destiny to be a Love poem to Him. Bless you. 🙌

P3404 What dominates you?

“May my only boast be found in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Him I have been crucified to this natural realm; and the natural realm is dead to me and no longer dominates my life.” Galatians 6:14 TPT.

Scriptures like this one come up, and if we are being real with each other, our response can easily be: “I don’t know, I sort of hope so.” But this whole thought sounds lovely doesn’t it? Especially the thought that this world no longer has that kind of hold over us. First of all, I want to encourage anyone reading this to resist the temptation to feel guilty if your answer happens to be: “I don’t live that way.” Guilt, shame, blame, etc. will cloud, and eventually overwhelm, our sense of God’s love, peace and acceptance toward us.

Yes, maybe you lost your temper last week and shouted at someone. Or perhaps lately you have been plagued by fear, but that won’t change the reality that SomeOne already paid, in real time, for whatever we’ve done. The point isn’t that we did whatever it was, the point is what are we going to do about it NOW? Are we going to allow ourselves to go round and round about something that no longer exists, or are we going to go to Love Himself – repent, and start thanking and praising Him for dying in our place. Jesus is praying for us, right now. He is not up there with a pen and paper and list of dumb things we have done. You asked Him to wash you with His blood and He already did!

It says this in Romans 8:31-34. “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one—for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honour at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” Hallelujah!

Instead of walloping yourself over the head with a handy umbrella, why not ask yourself why do I think I can’t live the same way Paul did? Nine times out of ten we feel bad because we are judging ourselves, and we are not happy about the answer. But in this statement Paul is pointing out that God is already for us. So let’s concentrate on the fact that Jesus voluntarily already reached that mark for us. How we feel about scriptures like these two, have absolutely no bearing on their reality and truth. The work is already done. Our thoughts and feelings must never rob us of His overriding truth.

It’s like praying for more faith. There’s nothing wrong with that — but it helps if we are using the faith we already have, to praise and thank Him for what we’ve already been given.  We need to hone our focus, so we choose to  switch our thoughts off who we are … and intensely focus on Who He is and what He did. Is He trustworthy? Does He love us? Does He speak truth? I love that last one… Jesus is Truth. Game over… we win! This life is just a shadow, it’s a pale imitation of the reality ahead of us, those thoughts should dominate us.

Jesus leads us, He never shoves, bullies or coerces us. He doesn’t have to, He’s the real deal. His peace inside our hearts is our reassurance. God’s grace is bottomless. Here is something wonderful to chew on today, His mercy is brand new every single morning. Imagine that! There is no such thing as left-over, partly used up, mercy — God’s mercy is brand new and fresh every single day. Focus on that.. Don’t wait to be better, or do better, or be in a better place – do it now. Start thanking Him for it, and then give away the very things you have been given to everyone around you. Instead of keeping score, let things go. This is how we remain aware of what we’ve been given, we choose to live in utter gratitude and unrestricted generosity.

The natural realm is temporary. People in war torn countries can tell us all about temporary things. One minute they have what they need, the next everything they had carefully collected and treasured is gone — including the people who dearly matter to them. Praise God…Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever! I love that it says yesterday, first. Let’s get rid of yesterday’s junk that can trip us up — and live in His light, His love, His truth, today. We need to leave the past behind us when we choose to forgive, repair, repent and then move on toward tomorrow.

Jump in the river of His love for you. Even when everything inside you screams at you to defend yourself and explain, or tell the other person your side of the story. The power to overcome those things that easily grind us down, is in the river of His loving forgiveness and acceptance. We need to leave our sins under the blood and jump on in. We cannot afford to let the devil and his lying ways dominate us. We will get discouraged if we do. Instead we submit to our Lord Jesus, because He loved us first. Let’s flow in love instead of being dominated by fear. Bye. 👋.
