P 3121 The kindness of God.

Almighty God’s kindness is not an open-door to live however we want … mainly because a lot of what the Lord says in the bible is definitely not lovey-dovey! That’s why I put that giant chunk of scripture on the page below today. Wherever we are reading – the gospels, or the Epistles, we can see that sin separates us from Him, other people, and His wisdom. However God didn’t wink at sin in the Old Testament either — His plan for mankind deliberately included permanent provision for dealing with it in the New! Our Saviour JESUS! Because the Lord is Who He is and He gave His all—He has an expectation that we will obey Him and trust Him. He sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us, and so He does not have to prove Himself, or His love, or His faithfulness! HE ALREADY DID.

Romans 2:1-7: “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, forbearance and patience, not realising that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when His righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honour and immortality, He will give eternal life.”

His kindness is a pathway we must choose to acknowledge, and deliberately walk down, because it will lead us back to Him. After all, He is the One Who knows all things, believes all things, and hopes all things; especially when we focus on how much the Lord has been good to us… instead of our perceived injury or injustices. That’s when we begin to change our focus from what the other guy did—to what we have most likely done, because we’ve become aware of this blooming great log in our eye reminding us! His kindness  has already been released toward us, we don’t have to pray it down, it’s already here. Now we act on it using our faith. These actions only run into difficulties if we hate to admit we are wrong and we refuse to move on.

Hubby said something really insightful about that yesterday, it reminded me of Jesus’ illustration in Matthew 7:3-5. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” If we can see it then we have it too, and ours is probably worse than the other guy!

It isn’t the plank that obscures our vision … although it does! It’s the fact that we will go to great lengths to distract ourselves from dealing with our own sin – in spite of any immediate discomfort. We can easily identify what someone else has done because we’ve done it ourselves … that’s how we know what their splinter is! Have you ever had something in your eye? I don’t know about you, but the world stops for me until I get whatever it is out! I couldn’t possibly see, think or say anything, because that awful pain takes all my attention. Having something in our eye, is a no brainer … it makes itself known and it can’t be ignored.

Sometimes that unacknowledged plank/log takes up so much of our focus and attention, that anything we think we can see in someone else’s eye, is totally immaterial – because we are in no actual shape to help them. Or even accuse them. The reality is we can’t can’t see anything properly because of our own unacknowledged pain and impaired sight. We have been blinded by a huge, sinful, judgmental attitude.

We can also get irritated because we can identify the splinter, but we simply don’t want to deal with our own plank! At that time we are definitely more likely to hurt the person who has a speck, simply because we can’t see properly! However, when we get rid of our own log, then we can help someone else with their smaller injury. And we will probably deal with things in a more kindly fashion, because the memory of our own pain is still fresh!!

When God tells us we have no excuse, we need to believe Him! That rebuke is His kindness in action, sent to lead us back to a position of humility and reconciliation with Him. However, our own pride will quite quickly make us fall over, and we can end up sitting on the floor wondering how we got there! Pride causes us to imagine that we can handle anything, because we sort-of kind-of, know it all. Sometimes we even barge into someone else’s life, acting like that we know  – when the reality is our plank means we can’t see it all!

I don’t particularly care what anyone’s qualifications are… we have been told respect and love one another as a priority, and the Holy Spirit won’t take anyone else trying to do His work, lightly. He has a far sweeter, kinder touch than we can ever hope for. After He has dealt with us, we will be humble when we help someone else.

These things in the bible are not suggestions—the Lord Jesus Himself took the road of humility and look what He accomplished. We are privileged to watch the Expert handle this life in ways that may seem foreign to us, as we read the book! God’s kindness will lead us into repentance. Go after that. Bye. 👋

P 2735 Who are you angry with?

If someone asked me that question I would probably say: “no-one.” Actually I might think about it for a bit, and maybe I would come up with one or two people that kinda irk me every now and then but my response would be: ‘… I’m not angry! No way!’ Now here’s a laugh for you … or you could cry. I’ve done both. Ask the Lord who you are mad at, and sit and wait for His answer. ps Don’t believe that little voice inside your head that says you are OK. That voice will tell you that you are a perfectly splendid person who never gets mad, it’s someone else’s fault for provoking you. That’s that liar – it’s not Jesus.

At the same time it could also be you, making excuses for yourself. Err on the side of caution and press into the Lord about it anyway … and take a pen … because you are going to need one. Yeah, I know, I seem so sure of myself about this subject … that’s because I’ve been doing stuff like this for quite a while now. One time recently when I asked the Lord that question He said: ‘the postman!’  I’m like … ‘the POSTMAN Lord??? Really??? What on earth did HE do that gave me an opportunity to be angry at him?’ Then the Lord spoke this magic sentence “… remember when you were waiting impatiently for that important parcel … and it didn’t come?” … …

Aha! The Lord and I were about to have a teaching moment. I am dumb, but I have learnt not to talk over the top of Him! I’ve also learnt to agree with Him and let Him explain to me the error in my thinking. Plus I get a freebie – a way to deal with it. He gave me this picture and I kind of liked it – I hope you find it helpful. Suppose getting mad at someone else was represented with something concrete:  every time you get miffed at another person or situation because it doesn’t suit you – someone gives you an orange. Would you like to guess how many oranges you will have at the end of the day? Mine was 3 bags and still counting!  No wonder I am always tired!! I’m carrying around 3 kgs of oranges, voluntarily!!🍊

Meanwhile calling anger by another name does not change a thing. It just makes ME feel better and more in control. You know what I mean, calling it lesser things like – miffed, ticked off, irritated, cross, displeased, provoked and irked – those are just a few synonyms for angry, and there are lots more …!! 🙄 Just having kids can throw you headfirst into plenty of opportunities to be angry. Meanwhile if you actually stumble into rage, please count me out. I have no brilliant ideas for dealing with that one! Maybe take a cold shower??… Like I said … not a clue!

My very, very elderly parent forgets what she just said. And she also forgets what you said three seconds ago when you answered her. So she asks “How are you?”…   every three minutes. It seems like time stands still just being around her and you are caught in this time warp! You try to change the subject but the minute there is silence – off she goes again! That’s on ME, BTW, not her. I can, however, with the Lord’s help have compassion on her, my brain cells are slowly dying off too.

Another fav irritating thing that happens with astonishing regularity is caused by our dog!  She loves to bark at anyone who comes within a half a mile of our house. I mean they could be 4 houses down and just walking along, on the other side of the road, minding their own business … But she goes off her rocker explaining to us that there’s  a person! I roar at the dog, because I’m embarrassed at the noise she makes – but let’s not talk about me shouting at her, that’s another thing altogether!

Now over to a few solutions. Well there aren’t any. Just get over yourself and repent. My dear parent is going to continue to ask “how are you” because she’s stuck, and she’s polite and wants to contribute, and praise God she is still here to do it! And the dog is going to continue to announce every stranger who walks past our house. However, personally, I am getting so sick of collecting oranges! What to do? Here’s what the bible says: “Be angry but don’t sin, don’t let the sun go down on your anger.”Ephesians 4:26. Now that’s good advice … I need to take it … I often remember that scripture the day after I fall in!

Sadly, there are some things that we can let the sun go down on, and come up again, etc. etc. over and over. Here’s the only thing I can suggest. Forgive whoever it is on purpose. Go in person if you can and ask them for forgiveness, then every single time it comes up in your mind, or that person does whatever it is AGAIN, remind yourself you already forgave them, and repent for digging up dirt on somebody else. Next, deliberately take the time to ask the Holy Spirit if that irritation etc. is standing on something. Do I remember this advice all the time? Of course not!

Some things remind us of the past or someone else, and then we react badly because we are standing on a mound of hurt. Repent, forgive whoever it was and ask for healing. Other people’s sins should fade out of our lives – yes, even if they do continue to do the same thing over and over again. It is OUR sin we are concerned about … of course I am an abject failure at that one too!  My advice, don’t let anger ruin your days… and if you do! Repent quickly. Bye 👋

P 2486 It’s the everyday things that drive you crazy …

… and then, bingo bongo – there went your happy day! There is a grevillea right outside our front door, and I sit near that door, typing this blog. A noisy miner bird also sits there on said grevillea, and chirps it’s little heart out, day after day after day … endlessly! It is always there – right when I am typing, and it is not there – when I am not! These birds are permanent, persistent, utterly piercing, bossy boot-type natives, and they are not easily dissuaded from harassing one of my favourite native birds — the lorikeet.

The local lorikeets also love our grevillea. This means we often have a bird-sponsored turf war in our front yard. It’s like ‘ringside-with-the-wrestlers’ only with birds!! Now, you might perhaps think that a dear little bird singing sweetly to me daily is a cheery thing. It’s NOT! Actually I’m pretty sure this bird would be in with a chance to play the didgeridoo – it can chirp and breathe all at the same time! On and on and on and on, for hours!!  I wish I had a great BIG gun! I’d shoot the blasted noisy miner stone dead. OK, OK – that’s a wish thought! Please don’t climb on your ecologically-sound, avian high-horse!  Despite my wishing this bird would drop dead … Hmmm… no.

My dear trusty, loving, helpful husband … who totally understands how strident and interrupting to my thought processes this bird’s chirp is … … mainly because it annoys the living daylights out of him too (!!!) … My dear Hubby stealth-walks outside. He sidles along the edge of the door and he sneaks up on the little darling and shoots at it with a … (wait for it) …water pistol! 🐦🔫!!  BTW, in case you are concerned we are hurting it, it quite easily chirps it’s head off in the rain undeterred, so it does not, ap-par-ently (!) dissolve in water … More’s the pity.

Instead it simply flies away to return to annoy me yet another day. It may seem like a dumb bird, but once it has been squirted, boy can it learn! The minute hubby’s hand hits that front door again, all pistoled up and ready to fire away… off it flies …And then it comes back quite quickly when he goes back inside, to recommence it’s torment. Yaaay. Meanwhile, it also successfully chases away my real-true-fav-friend, the lorikeet. Yes, I know the aptly named noisy-(I’ll-say)-miner, is not as pretty as the lorikeet. It’s call is definitely right in there with whiny little kids who want an icecream 🍦 …  but I totally refuse to feel sorry for it – ordinary-looking or not. Instead, I quite often feel provoked into bird-icidal thoughts about it!

My not-friend, the miner bird, reminds me of how easy it is to lose one’s cool. Everything is fine and dandy and suddenly … you are on your last nerve ready to thump the next human being who innocently says ...”Good morning!” cheerfully. Hmmm…. apparently today is going to be …complain about the wild life day … and once commenced on my current totally irritated course I cannot escape.🏃 Run for your life!

Perhaps I have been slightly brain-damaged by a rampant noisy miner. So now, let’s move on to my next least-fav indigenous thing, possums. One paid a visit to us last night, plus the night before. It’s a sociable little furry thing …it comes over to practise it’s high jumps for the Olympics at 2.00am. Apparently it is possum hoe-down season again. Wretched little monsters. They are either ON your roof or IN it – either way … grrrrr!. Way over in New Zealand, our southern cousins have more sense than we do – they kill possums. THEY actually think they are a pest. In Australia, of course WE must not harm the little darlings. But our friends, across the ditch, the New Zealanders, are very clever, sensible people. They make wool and knit socks out of their fur. (True story!)

Back to my critter rant … presently, in our semi-tropic summer, we currently have millions of mosquitos the size of a small dog and they are more aggressive than a black-mamba. My dear hubby has to take our normal-sized dog outside regularly, to do what a dog’s gotta do. To get this mission accomplished, he has to wear even more clothes over his normal clothing – it IS over 30o here! Then he sprays himself with 3 different repellants and puts on his trusty mosquito repellant wrist band … and yet!! …don’t’cha know … Those nasty legalistic little blighters still manage to bite him…Somewhere the repellant wasn’t!

While we are briefly on about things that irritate the living daylights out of me – I also hate, loathe and despise spell-check … it does not like my informal way of writing, so it yells at me, and bullies me all the time. I’ve yet to figure out a way to yell back at it … but I’m working on it! Now, in case you haven’t already guessed, I thought I might write about a blog about whiny irritations today, because, in the anti-climatical aftermath of Christmas, I’ve very cleverly found some. Actually, I found them when I wasn’t even looking! Meanwhile that stupid bird is ba-ack doing it’s thing.

Have you ever noticed that once you are irritated it is hard to escape from it? Me too! It’s kind of like a whirlpool, and you go round and round and round – gathering in even more stuff … while you are going under. Aha! I think I’ve worked out where I was amiss … I let sin reign. So now, I will depart, before I get totally sucked under and ruin this entire day. I pray you are more successful than I am in fighting off irritations. I just gotta go and find that water-pistol … bye ..👋🏻

Romans 2:12 ESV “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to MAKE YOU obey its passions.” … Now there’s good advice. 😂
