P 3317 We get the order wrong sometimes.

This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: by having a passionate love for God and by obedience to His commands. True love for God means obeying His commands, and His commands don’t weigh us down as heavy burdens.” 1 John 5:2&3. TPT.

I think we can get the order wrong when it comes to loving others. We strain and we stretch ourselves, like possessed people in a gym — trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear – or in my case, trying to make a thin person out of a fat one! Desperately hoping if we take up planking, sprints, cycling, weight lifting or crunches, we will restore our bodies to the energetic life we enjoyed in our youth. Fat chance! Meanwhile who wants to spend their entire life trying to be something that they are not! Here’s a thought …

Why not expend all our energy getting to know the King of all Kings? He knows what our bodies can and can’t do, and He knows those things in each of our lives that are in the way and stopping us from important things like loving Him and loving others. The verse above tells us that loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength leads to loving our neighbour as ourselves.

We often get that thought the wrong way round. And so we end up trying so hard to love Sister Susie and her kids, or Brother Erwin and his! Sister Susie, BTW, is the church’s best source of unsolicited information, and Brother Erwin’s kids do wheelies and burn outs in the car park!  Unless each one of us is transformed by God’s Grace, we simply won’t easily get along – we are all too different.

We often throw the word ‘Grace’ about like confetti at a wedding, Oops! Sorry. I meant rice at a wedding! Instead of polluting the world with teeny-weeny tiny bits of paper, now we are cultivating rice paddies in front of our churches! So we can’t throw confetti anymore, the mad conservationists have objected to it. I’m with Charlie Brown … good grief!!

A while ago when we noticed the temperatures rising, we started focussing on saving this world – um! Didn’t the Lord already do that? What about taking care of the souls that are rapidly leaving this earth? Sometimes we have different priorities. Try telling a starving person to recycle the wrapper on food, when they haven’t eaten for days! Personally, I think people are far more important than anything else. So how can we agree? We are all like grumpy porcupines trying to find a way to get close to each other. BTW, if I think you are nuts that’s not going to help!!

Let’s use the time we have in this world to love Jesus, and others. That will help us learn His Ways, and out of that will flow those rivers of living water that we would all like to have living inside us. The sad truth is — I probably can’t love you, easily. And a couple of hours of effort each Sunday won’t cut it!  I can easily smile at you, and pretend to listen to your conversation, while I am waiting for a space to say something I think is better than what you just said! But after ten minutes of trying to talk to each other like that, somebody’s going to probably want to leave.

Our God knows us all, each and every one of us, and He loves us as individuals, dearly … and … glory of gloriesHe has chosen not to see what unpleasant people we can be. And He loves us in our humanity. I have learnt that Love can’t be legislated! Let’s go to Him, day by day with our little empty cup of “I can’t be bothered” and “Why would I care about them?” And instead, receive a full to overflowing cup of acceptance, repentance, patience, love, grace, etc. which we then freely give away to each other. And if my cup gets bumped, and I lose some Grace just because I’m moving about, then I go back to Him and say “More Grace please Jesus, thank you.” Amen.

If my cup is empty then what can I give you? I have to go to the Source, the Lord Himself, and replenish what I have lost. You don’t find any of those graces lying about in the street, and you can’t go to a shop and buy them either. But as we voluntarily give Jesus our love, our obedience and time, and He gives us His nature in abundance back – then our cups will overflow again.

Spending time with Him is an investment in our new life. Think about it. What did the disciples have to give the Lord? Fishing advice? He knew how to fish better than they did. Maybe their experience, or their sparkling personalities? I.Don’t.Think.So. Those men gave up their whole lives to follow Him and receive from Him. Receiving from Him, is as important as giving.

Just think about being Mrs Peter, or Mrs John, or Mrs Andrew for a minute. They had to sacrifice everything to let their husbands follow the Lord. Our TIME is all we have. I may not have tomorrow, but I do have NOW. So like Paul, let’s choose to say, “I will!”I will read the bible and I will sing songs to Him. I will pray for others and I will pray for me’…I will talk to Jesus on the bus, at my desk, in the car, in the shower, in my bed – at every opportunity. It’s all an act of our will.

God is a Father Who loves His kids! When I began to think about this, I realised I too understand that people are irreplaceable. I am a parent, I could not replace even one of my children, their partners, or my grandchildren with someone else, anymore than I can fly. Although I have been tempted occasionally! The reality is, the people I know and love are irreplaceable to me. Almighty God is a w-a-a-y better parent than any of us could ever ever hope to be.

YOU are irreplaceable to Him. He loves us so much He sent Jesus here, to show us His heart toward each one of us. Let’s not get the order wrong anymore, love God first, and then – you can love others. Bye. 👋

What fills our hearts comes out, if we spill it.

P 3066 Position yourself to catch the Wind.

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If you truly want to follow Me, you should at once completely reject and disown your own life. And you must be willing to share My cross and experience it as your own, as you continually surrender to My ways.” Matthew 16:24 TPT. I believe the secret to this verse is in the words: ”if you TRULY want to follow Me.”

This thought is repeated in Luke 9:23-24 TPT: “Jesus said to all of His followers, “If you TRULY desire to be My disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace My ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to My ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice, giving up your lives for My glory, you will discover true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will lose what you try to keep.”

We often look at our actions, we don’t often look at our aims, desires or wants. So we can quickly feel broken-hearted when we know we’ve failed the Lord. Especially if we revise the things that miss the mark. Those self-accusations won’t help us to follow Him. If you and I think we have messed up too much, we will start to AVOID Him, not follow Him!

Meanwhile, that is not what He is saying here. Our wants and desires matter to Him. But it is LOVE that is meant to lead us into the place of obedience. Forcing ourselves, creates resistance. I think this means we need to change our primary focus – don’t look to other people for that kind of love, look to Jesus. Then BE the person you need others to be to you!  Read His book like a love letter. Go to the Lord and tell Him that you want to be close to Him, that you long to make Him your heart’s primary desire, but your flesh is weak. Tell Him you need His help. Then let the Holy Spirit be your Personal Coach and follow His instructions – they are in the book.

There are things that make us feel guilty – whether the guilt is real or not. But until they are confessed and dealt with and put aside …we can easily rationalise away the real issues and start fighting the Wind…literally! A kite doesn’t try to fly – it simply positions itself to catch the wind! The Holy Spirit is the wind beneath our wings.  I may not need what you need right now. I may need His loving discipline, but you could need a hug! Christianity is not ‘one size fits all!’

We have a Saviour Who personalised everything He did and said as He ministered to individuals. He didn’t go digging around in the coal cellar of people’s hearts, He accurately touched the sore spot in there, and then put His love and truth in its place. When a dumb thing came out of someone’s mouth – He addressed it. The secret to living a day-by-day Godly life, is check out internally what we are aiming at. If I choose to follow Jesus, then I will put down anything else that stands in my way.

Jesus is telling us here, that we cannot follow Him and still live a selfish, greedy, angry life. Those things do not work together. Walking in Love is the Answer. He lived His life showing us the way to follow Him. But the Lord will not beat anyone up because we are not dead to ourselves. And if we analyse our every thought and move that will just take up our precious time. Instead we need to be thanking Him, for all He has done and Who He is. It’s about our focus and our focus must be His love FOR US.

He has done all of the work, all the heavy lifting. In these scriptures He is saying… to achieve what we want, death to self is the only way. He’s pointing to the direction we simply must take. We can’t step into what He has given us through guilt, reprisal or condemnation. He loved us, walking right into death and then He went through that into a new life. That action has given us unfettered access to His heart. The Holy Spirit will lead us, and help us for free, we simply need to let Him have His Way. It takes faith. Jesus has told us what the results will be if we choose to live this life not following Him.

Because of what the Lord did, we cannot afford to let condemnation strangle us anymore. Kick it off. Tell those thoughts you want to follow the Lord — that filthy snake can’t lead you anywhere but down the drain! Love is our Leader now. Jesus knows we are weak. OH!… but He is so strong! He can get us through anything, including our own weaknesses. He’s with us, as one of us. He is our Friend that is closer than a brother. And He has sent us His most cherished Helper – the Holy Spirit. He created each one of us. He knows what needs to be changed and when it needs changing.

Whenever love prevails, our responses will be different. When we feel empowered, and safe;  His acceptance and Love gives us room to grow, without pressure. The decision to follow Him is difficult because it means we don’t call the shots anymore. But we are giving that power over to SomeOne Who put up His hand and said: “I see those sins My brother or sister committed, It’s all real. It hurt and destroyed other people. But kill Me instead of them. LET THEM LIVE!!”

The Holy Spirit wants to guide us through any potholes, pits, and mudslides of this life, into a new way to live. Catch the precious Wind of Love and start your adventure with God Himself. Bye.👋

P 2804 Thoughts from a Grannie.

Jesus is speaking to His disciples in John 14:15-17:“If you love Me, you will obey My commandments Then I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth, Whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see Him or know Him. But you know Him, because He resides with you and will be IN you.”

Christians all have a live-in … Counsellor; Comforter; Baptiser; Advocate; Strengthener; Sanctifier; Spirit of Christ; Spirit of Truth; Spirit of Grace; Spirit of Mercy; Spirit of God; Spirit of Holiness; Spirit of Life. And just because we cannot always hear or see Him at work, that does not mean He is not with us! He is FAR bigger than our measuring sticks, but unfortunately, He sometimes falls off our radar because … HE IS NOT LOUD.

This world we live in today likes to loudly feature what we can see, feel, touch, taste, and experience – it quite gladly shows us demons … … but refuses to acknowledge Almighty God! When SomeBody or something does not line up with our instantly focussed, darkly-imagined world, those people fall under suspicion and doubt – they are accused of trying to steal someone else’s fun away. They are restricting someone else’s freedom to express themselves. I think that’s when and why, we end up labelling things … without consulting the Creator’s greater knowledge.

The reason Christians choose to get to know the Lord every single day, is because the Holy Spirit reveals the truth of the Word of God to us as we read it. He reminds us, over and over again, that Father God loves us dearly – He teaches us, step by step, that we are part of something far greater. At the same time, He is also praying for each and every human being, every second of every minute of our lives. I have learnt that the kingdom He comes from is so much bigger than the world I inhabit – so I have learnt to refuse to be limited by the things I don’t yet understand! I will be prayerfully careful with those things, but I refuse to be limited, because I have a limitless Father!

When I only look at my own limitations, or the limitations of the people around me, and I choose to be guided by them, I cease to grow. That’s when I have put ‘fitting into the status quo’ above ‘growth.’ Loads of people do that. Life kicked them in the teeth when they have tried to stretch, or extend the edges of their thoughts and now they are looking for safety more than adventure. Here’s what I have observed … safety becomes a BOX that limits my God-given possibilities.

Jesus told us to be like little children, and healthy little children are curious. They start out in this life asking: “Why? Wat dat? How?” But instead of fostering that curiosity, human beings made a great big container and they named it school and instruction – and now we plonk these precious bundles of natural curiosity into it, hoping against hope that “school” will teach them… something – anything .. that means they can make a living some day. We are not trying to make decent human beings – just societally functioning ones.

Unfortunately, school rarely teaches most children how to think, instead they teach them how to learn. That channels most people’s thinking processes into established streams. It takes a very brave inquisitive child to push against these established schools of thought. Many children who refuse, for one reason or another, to be ‘streamed’ are labelled today with man-made diagnoses, that limit their ability even further to become who they are to God. If we want to go higher than the status quo – our aim should to be lift them higher than we’ve already come.

Sadly with these non-conformist kids we say: “something is wrong with that kid, so we will give it a great big name that means this kid is a dud who won’t do what it is told, or is too dumb to learn.” We limit them with our fear and labels. Oh, we do it nicely, because we’ve learnt to practice our PC, so we pat the kid on the head and say: “Poor baby, this one was born broken.” And then we use them as a statistic to prove our ideas are right.

Maybe in our societies today, the dollar has become more important than our kids, So instead of teaching them how to explore our world safely, we stick a lid on them and tell them this is all there is, that only a few people can grow up to be special. You can make great clones that way. However … God made us all individuals for a purpose. We each have a role to play in His plans for this world – and it won’t necessarily just be on the sporting field, stage or TV!

What we call education, steals away His purpose, under the guise of things we must know to survive. It has stolen away faith from many, and labelled it ‘a minor need in some individuals who are already weak.It does not see faith as something that opens doors, it sees it as an enemy. It is our job, as parents, and grandparents, aunties, and uncles etc. to foster our children’s interest in this bigger world of faith. That bigger world is HIS world. And you can give your children a far better start in this life if you teach them how to really SEE – spiritually. Don’t expect our schools to do it, it’s our job to teach them about that bigger world, which is far realer than this one.

Instead of just teaching them to digest facts and information that can be proved or disproved – let’s teach them about His kingdom. Let’s tell them what that looks like. Help your kids to see that words on a page in His book, can expand into dreams, visions, and a greater reality that will bless everyone, not just themselves. And that’s this Grannie signing off for today! Bye. 👋
