P 3319 Human beings are so fickle!

I was reading Psalm 74 yesterday. Some of the Psalms are almost a litany of complaints against the Lord, which seemed to be the Israelites’ automatic response to a lot of their immediate situations. Meanwhile I was captured by the attitude of the writers. These complaining attitudes also exist in Psalm 44, (74), 79, 80, 83 – and finally Psalm 89. That attitude is there throughout practically every book of the Old Testament. It led to tension and practically no trust! It seems to me that we often have no real knowledge of Who we are dealing with….

Almighty God Himself put the Israelite people where they were – He even gave them someone else’s land. (Read Abraham’s story) Meanwhile, He’s Almighty GOD so He can do that — after all He OWNS the earth!! … Just saying is all. Yesterday hubby gave a lovely aboriginal lady one of our coffee books, and she was talking about what she believes. The Lord asked me to write something at the beginning of the book we gave her. What He said to write really impressed me: “This is the great Southland of the Holy Spirit.” It’s always good to remember we own nothing. Ownership is an illusion.

Back to the Israelites, they wanted an easy road. Don’t we all? We try to figure out God’s ways and get all excited because we think we have worked out a way to get Him to do – this and that … And if we just do this — (pray lots, pray the right prayers, hold up the bible and remind Him of what He said in it, read the bible all the time, or join a worship group/intercessors group) — then He will do that. And we collect facts to back that idea up! Rots of ruck on that thought.

If we read the bits we don’t like much, we can discount that theory. The Israelite people saw Almighty God as SomeOne Who was in their lives to fix things. Like the temple;  or their enemies;  or this or that captivity;  or their unhappy lives;  or even their lack of fine cuisine! They seem to have no clue that God is G.O.Dunfortunately that also meant they had no real ongoing fear of the Lord! Eventually they made a huge list of rules to keep God happy and hoped that would do.

Father God is not a sugar-daddy, or our own personal assistant, or even Father Christmas! He is the Almighty all-knowing, ever-present, everlasting Father of us all and He owes us nothing! We are here to learn that we owe Him everything – including every single bit of our loyalty! It seems to me that this attitude of privilege is not just restricted to our current generations, it’s been an ongoing attitude, off and on, inside and outside the church for thousands of years.

Bad things have been egregiously attributed to His Character. Like calling disasters “an act of God!” with absolutely no regard to our personal contributions to our own fate! The Lord has given us FREE WILL, and we often respond to Him like we would to the wrong order supplied by McDonald’s! “Lord, why haven’t You fixed this and that in my life? Don’t You care for me anymore?” … OR … my personal UN-favourite …Isn’t my life hard enough? What a whiny group of spoilt fuss-pots human beings can be! We throw blame around like confetti, nattily avoiding responsibility

It’s a testimony to the Lord’s great Grace that He doesn’t drown us all, like He drowned everybody but Noah and his familyNow there’s a cautionary tale we seem to want to forget! But God made a promise and HE doesn’t break His promises. His promises REST on WHO HE IS not how He feels. Seven people followed Noah onto that ark… before the flood came. They did more than just receive the Word of the Lord, they acted on it.  I wonder what can He do with our undivided affection, attention, trust, obedience and loyalty?

Let’s not underestimate the value of our own faith. Somebody else may be watching you, while you are following HIM. Sadly, we can often be fickle and whimsical in our devotion to Jesus, turning it on and off like a tap. However, He is always there for us. Let’s remember that Almighty God has forever on His mind. Bye 👋.

P 3175 Piece of cake!

Christ is our message! We preach to awaken hearts and bring every person into the full understanding of truth. It has become my inspiration and passion in ministry to labor with a tireless intensity, with His power flowing through me, to present to every believer the revelation of being His perfect one in Jesus Christ.” Colossians 1:28-29 TPT.

Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority! Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.” Colossians 3:1-2 TPT.

We can waste a lot of our God-given time reflecting on where we’ve missed it, and end up living in the land of regret. It is good to be aware of where you’ve fallen short of the mark, but not to the point where you can’t even see the mark anymore! That mark is this – Jesus’ sacrifice and His wonderful love for mankind. We have all been given a priceless gift …total reconciliation with God. Yes, He knows what we are like;  yes He knows we fail;  but our wonderful Father, God, is far greater than we can ever imagine. Right here. Right now. He sees us complete in Christ. That’s because of Who He is, His nature – not our spirituality.

The best news ever, is this… Jesus did not fail. He was tempted in every aspect of this life, just like we are, He got tired, just like we do, He had responsibilities, just like we do. Listen to this particular responsibility!  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18&19. Howzat for hard?

Yet Jesus quite naturally walked and lived with SomeOne that we need to learn to walk with, minute by minute, day by day — the precious Holy Spirit. The good news is this – I don’t have to be all that – Jesus already did it for me. Our hearts need to be awakened all the time, to the reality of His truth – by reading and acting on the stuff that is written down in His book.

For instance, the bible says: ‘agree with your adversary quickly.’  Matthew 5:25. We’ve been lied to by our enemy who told us: ‘There is no way you can ever be like Jesus. After all, you did this and that. And something much worse, yesterday!!’ So I agree with the enemy when he accuses me, but then I refer him to the bible, because that is what Jesus did when He was tempted.  I point to the cross because I know I have nothing else but His Grace to commend me.

Sometimes I think we’d rather hide in the wine press, like Gideon did, than be seen! The bible says the people recorded in the Old Testament are there ‘…as an example to us.’ 1 Corinthians 10:11. Let’s not hide like that young man did. Instead let’s remember God has a plan and we are already in it! Our problem is we need to maintain our faith in His goodness, His promises … not just focus on our sins. We have weak wobbly faith in a tiger-pouncing world! It’s time to get up off the mat and get back into doing what we’ve been destined to do …telling and showing everyone around us how much Jesus loves them!

A lady came here yesterday and in the course of our conversation she mentioned that she didn’t go to church but she did talk to God. She said this like she thought it was a bad thing. Like somehow she was sneaking into a rock concert without a ticket! We assured her she didn’t need a ticket, because God heard every word she said. Then we went on to reassure her that Christianity is not a club you join, it’s a Person you meet, so we don’t have to shout out our number as we go through the door! She laughed, and said: “You should tell people that more often!”  We need to remember …’it is the kindness of God that leads people into repentance.’  Romans 2:4. The-people-who-haven’t-met-Him-yet are often more happy to hear the truth than we are to give it to them!

However, we all know that sometimes witnesses can be quite reluctant. Cop shows on TV taught me that!! There is no such thing as getting it right, there is only obeying Him, or not. He’s a Redeemer! He can take the mess we’ve made of our lives, and turn it into something more wonderful than we can imagine. At the same time the Holy Spirit knows our frame. He also knows our weaknesses …but when we give them to Him, He will give us His strength in exchange. We don’t have to give someone else a 20 course dinner about what the bible says, in our testimony – we just give them the fresh bread He gave us this morning when we read the bible!

There is the saddest parable told by Jesus Himself, about a rich man and a beggar. Luke 16:19-31. As the beggar talks to the rich man he says: “And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.” Let’s choose to take the time to tell others that–SomeOne, God Himself!–came here and made Himself that bridge between what people think they know about Him and Who He really is. Tell them Jesus is everyone’s bridge back to God.  Our testimonies are powerful, because the Holy Spirit handpicks the people He sends us to.

Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him (satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”  You and I don’t have to be the whole band – but … you can be the banjo Jesus plays on… OK!… Let’s not be picky … you can be the flute instead! Piece of cake. Bye.👋

P 3111 The fixed point.

Isaiah 43:4-11. Since you are precious and honoured in My sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth—everyone who is called by My Name, whom I created for My glory, whom I formed and made.”

Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf. All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of their gods foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right, so that others may hear and say, “It is true.” “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no Saviour.”

Almighty God is giving us incredible reassurances in this scripture. It hits the spot for me. One of my kids and her daughter live way down South from where I live, so I have had to learn to hold fast to what the Lord  promises in His Word. When I read this passage, I feel such concern, compassion, and love from Him for myself, and the family I miss so much. Hubby’s family is way down South too!  Jesus wants us to know today, that it is part of His overall plan to bring all the lost, wandering, and far away sheep back together again. Praise Him!

Life today, seems very ‘stretched, intense, and stressful’ to me. People go on enormous holidays, and they think nothing of travelling great distances by plane. When I was a child, a big trip for us was travelling in an old car to go to Bendigo to visit my Great Grandmother. Yes, I was fortunate enough to know my Great Grandmother! It was not an easy journey to see her, but it was worth it! She’s with Jesus now – so our story together will one day continue.

Great Grandmother was my favourite person as a child – despite the distance between us. She and my Great Grandpop had chickens, grapevines, fruit trees and veggies. Her house was always spotlessly clean. Plus … boy could she cook! OK … I think I just momentarily  went way off track, thinking about her cooking. We used to drive up to Eaglehawk, which is just outside of Bendigo, a few times a year, and it seemed quite a distance in our ancient Rockne car. See pic above – that’s not our car BTW – that’s just the model.

From Pretty Sally, the tallest hill around, to Bendigo is 140 kms and the distance from our home in Kew to that spot was 60kms. Yet in our long journey north we had to stop twice to put more water in the radiator. It took all day to get there, nowadays it only takes 2 hours in our modern cars! Our old car would always conk out at Pretty Sally Hill, and we’d have to wait for the radiator to cool down to put water in again. If you didn’t do that, you could crack the head, and then …bye bye, Rockne! The car would belch steam to let us know the water had boiled and we should stop.

I loved all the little towns between Melbourne and Bendigo – today you bypass most of them. But on our journey, we’d stop, have an ice cream or a cup of tea – and then we’d start off again. Back then cars didn’t have any air conditioning except for opening the windows! And going to Bendigo seemed like the ends of the earth to a fidgety kid ten year old! I think I fell in love with the country at an early age. But distance is nothing to God. Wherever your family might be, wherever your memories are – nothing can stop God from reuniting people.

Today, lots of people visit the South Pole to see penguins in their natural habitat, for their holidays! And I can get from where I live to where my daughter lives by travelling in 2 hours on a plane. My point is a small one. Whatever the distance between you and your loved ones, Father God is promising, in this passage, to reunite all of us with Himself, and the ones we love and miss, simply because He is good and He has claimed us for His own. When you are His kid He looks after you! Even death cannot separate us from Him. The story of Lazarus proves that!

The Lord is establishing His authority and sovereignty, in this passage in Isaiah, and He reminds us that anything else that wants to push its way to the centre of our thoughts cannot legally come between us and Him. Even before Jesus died for us all, God always took care of His kids. His sovereignty is superb and supreme. Anything else that exalts itself against His will, has to fall away, and any other gods aren’t worth even talking about, in the light of Who He is. Today He wants to reassure us that He will keep His promises. Nobody else can do what He has done. Or what He is doing right now for you, and what He will continue to do to keep His promise to you and His plans for your future.

That means His promises are totally secure – backed  up by something so incredible we can hardly conceive of it. WHO HE IS. You know – that’s what always comes under question when bad things happen to us. IS HE WHO HE SAYS HE IS? Our enemy uses doubt like a politician uses too many words. Father God tells us to hide His Word in our hearts, so we won’t sin against Him, for those times when doubt batters at us. But at the same time we are also learning that His Word is stronger than anything else in this world.

Think about this: we are standing on what Father God said, and what the Holy Spirit DID about His proclamations. The Lord Himself is our fixed point in our endlessly wound up, merry-go-round world! Fractured families and friendships happen – but our God is mighty and consistently loving. He truly loves reconciliation, and He will always be faithful to His Word. Bye. 👋

P 3007 “Take My yoke upon you … and learn from ME!”

Whatever we want to learn about God’s kingdom can’t be second-hand knowledge, because that stuff will simply fill our brain and puff us up! Unless we choose to action what we’ve heard it can’t change our lives! I can carefully listen to my pastor, but unless I go away and pray over the things he said, I’m deceiving myself. Meanwhile the pastor is probably praying everyone listening to him will action what he says in the first place! Because when we act on what we’ve heard – that introduces opportunities for inner transformation.

God’s word is ‘near us’ when we study it and want to understand it… but it becomes a part of who we are when we act on it. However! When I enforce the Word on myself, without asking for the Holy Spirit’s help, I can develop things that are not desirable. I can easily become proud and religious, or easily intimidated, and overwhelmed by life’s circumstances. James clearly tells us how to make the bible a part of our inner selves:

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. (Chapter 1 – Verses 22-25)

We can so easily be self-deceived if we read the Bible and then dismiss what we read as something ‘that doesn’t apply to me.’ Maybe we don’t want to face a realistic picture of ourselves? Instead, it is wise to ask the Holy Spirit to show you where what you have read applies to you and what He wants you to do about it.. Father God wants us to become so saturated in His Word through our actions, that wherever we go … we respond just like Jesus did. He didn’t just speak, He acted. This means our behaviour will change and other people will see God in action in us and through us.

Willingly forgiving anyone in all kinds of circumstances, is a sign of God’s Word on the inside. So is generosity in all our dealings with other people. If we pray for patience, and then give up when it seems like nothing has happened, that’s when we need to carefully survey our surroundings and the people in them, and look for the ones that drive us crazy! These people are our God-given test cases. After we find them, we need to go on to thank Him for these impossible people who are giving us daily opportunities to change the way we respond. Instead of cursing them, this is an opportunity to bless them.

Likewise, when things don’t work out according to our prayers, we need to reinforce our faith with action, instead of worrying or panicking. Like I said yesterday, God always has a bigger plan. The thing to do is to keep our hope in His redemptive power alive, through prayer, thankfulness and HIS WORD. His absolutely totally reliable goodness is our eternally, ever-fixed mark. We hold onto His promises and keep the faith that God is good, all the time. This means that if we cannot see any good — then we are not through the difficulties …YET! Hold fast!“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9.

Our faith is always in God Himself, not just in what He does or how He does it. When our faith is in how God does stuff we can misguidedly try to manipulate our circumstances, or the Lord Himself, into doing whatever it is we want. Almighty God won’t be fooled by this deception. We are not God, He is!

I think we have totally misunderstood the Way faith works. We can rush about quoting this scripture. and that passage, up one hill and down the other, but all we are doing is bludgeoning our faith, trying to make it fit and submit to a standard that we think we need from it. Faith is not about getting – it is about Giving God Glory at any time, in any place. It’s about Him — not how well, or poorly we use it. Our faith has substance because God Himself has substance!

I have yet to get excited about being overtaken by trouble and difficulties … but I am learning if I go to the Lord and ask Him what He wants me to do about the situation I am facing … He will answer me. I want to learn – and I know that Jesus wants to personally teach me. I’ve picked up the yoke of walking together with Him. The Lord was human just like me, tempted the same ways I have been – He understands the weariness that can overtake us in the middle of the battles we face. Sometimes we need to know the way THROUGH situations rather than the way OUT.

The Holy Spirit will always be our personal Leader and Guide. He leads us through any wildernesses in this life. He tells us daily how to walk, where to go, and what to do. Just three minutes ago, hubby texted me to say that he had met 9 Samoan fruit pickers and given them all bibles. He was just going about his business in the little town of Mundubbera in outback Queensland!  Almighty God is the best co-ordinator ever!!

He is all WISE, all KNOWING and… FOR US! Let’s learn personally from Him, through our circumstances – good and bad. When we pick up Jesus’ yoke and deliberately learn from Him, we are honouring Him and His Ways above all else. Bye.🤚
