P 3419 Keep on… keeping on!

“My beloved ones, just like you’ve always listened to everything I’ve taught you in the past, I’m asking you now to keep following my instructions as though I were right there with you. Now you must continue to make this new life fully manifested as you live in the holy awe of God—which brings you trembling into His presence. God will continually revitalise you, implanting within you the passion to do what pleases Him. Live a cheerful life, without complaining or division among yourselves. For then you will be seen as innocent, faultless, and pure children of God, even though you live in the midst of a brutal and perverse culture. For you will appear among them as shining lights in the universe,” Philippians 2:12-15 TPT.

It’s important to look at the things we end up focusing on day by day. If we constantly and consistently focus on the immediate, we will more easily lose sight of the eternal. These verses make it clear that there is only one way to live. In AWE of God Himself. Ignoring what He says won’t help me – instead I will be presuming upon His grace.

I think that most of us have absolutely no idea what our Father is like … or we would all live differently. God has withheld revealing His glory to us, for our benefit.  When Jesus revealed His glory once, Peter started babbling on about building shrines. He was in the middle of something awesome, yet this man was so overcome by what he saw, he wanted to memorialise the event, instead of worshipping Jesus. It’s one thing to know in our minds Who He is, and totally another to be confronted by His reality!

The fear of God is a real thing, and we all need it. A whole-hearted reverential respect for the Lord and what He says, plus following His ways, just might save our lives one day. Paul is saying here that we need a deeper passion for the things of God. I’m a big believer in grace so if I know I don’t have it, then I ask for it! Jesus is so kind, He will give us His kind of passion as a gift. So if I am to serve and worshipfully love and honour my Father in the way Paul mentions in Romans, I will need to accept that the Grace we’ve been freely given to approach our Father, is way out of proportion to who we really are. We can’t earn anything!

However, we are sadly mistaken if we think that the Lord doesn’t require our actions to match what we say. Change is not optional, it is essential. God wants to protect our hearts from the stuff that is coming next in our lives. It’s our choice and we have to exercise it, and live a new way – the way of faith. Let’s seize every opportunity to deal with our flesh. Our Heavenly Father loves faith, and He wants us to respond to Him in good times and bad, by believing in His goodness. Faith can’t be an optional extra.

I think most believers really want to do what pleases our Heavenly Father, they just can’t come up with the goods by themselves. Like Paul says in Romans 7:24, 25: “Wretched and miserable man that I am! Who will [rescue me and] set me free from this body of death [this corrupt, mortal existence]?” As believers we need to move past the diagnosis of our lack, into the arena of continuing to use our faith in His amazing goodness toward us, despite our shortcomings. God really is THAT good! Jesus has done the work for me. I just need to appropriate the GRACE He daily gives me, by using my faith and following His Ways now – “…not my will be done … THY will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

This is how Paul follows up Chapter 7 … in Romans 8, he says: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” What Paul is saying is that we might fall over as we are learning to live a life of faith, but we are to no longer to live believing we have to mess up, it’s inevitable. God Himself has already provided for everything because of what Jesus did.The Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection is utterly complete. What He did for each one of us is like paying 2 trillion dollars for a 1 cent stamp. He overpaid.

Plus when Jesus died, I died. Dead people don’t sin, they don’t even want to, they are dead, they want nothing. When I chose to live this life dead to what I want, and live it for His glory, then I am free to live my life the way Jesus taught me to live it. I will always need to rely upon His Grace, love, mercy etc. to get me through my days, deliberately going after these things for myself, and then I freely give them out to others.

I live my life with Him in mind … which means I am learning to live my life in Christ Jesus. Believing and acting on what we’ve been told to do, is our outward expression of inward faith. This does not mean life is going to be easy. It simply means we know He will help us through things step by step, growing our faith all the way. The bible helps us remember whenever we forget, and we have the Holy Spirit, Who never ever forgets anything.

Now I live this life, here and now, attached to Him, obeying His ways, looking to Him to start and finish growing my faith as I learn to exercise it. We must keep on, keeping on. It is our God-given destiny to get the hang of the Spirit-filled life, loving what He loves, doing what Jesus would do. Our new life has been already bought and paid for, and we need to move our old thinking out of the way, and start thinking like He does. Bye 👋.

P3409 Watch your head, Fred.

Years ago, there was a saying – “don’t get too big for your boots.” It was wise advice that warned anyone not to become fat headed in a situation that turned out very well. It means – don’t covet the applause. I think many of us can do this more easily than we care to admit, mainly because we need approval more often than we care to admit, and it can go to our heads!

Our Heavenly Father is so kind to us, but sadly we can start to think our church, or our denomination, are the only ones who have God’s favour. Mainly because of His gifts, or prevalent spiritual attitudes, someone’s ability to prophesy. At times we are influenced by the way we regard other people’s sin. EG: my sin is little … yours is … HUGE! “For who regards you as superior or what sets you apart as special? What do you have that you did not receive [from another]? And if in fact you received it [from God or someone else], why do you boast as if you had not received it [but had gained it by yourself]?” 1 Corinthians 4:7. That kind of puts a lid on it, doesn’t it?

There is a very important balance that we need to maintain in our lives, and we will definitely need the Lord’s help to do it. Being someone important in today’s church communities has perks. So if you are known as wise, or you have a visible gift, or you are seen as spiritual — people can treat you differently. They think you have some sort of formula that means you can tackle life better than they can. Christians do this because they only see the man or woman of God in front of them. They miss the marvellous, glorious, multi-faceted loving God behind them! It is error to focus on a person, not on the One Who has given us the gifts. We end up over-emphasising people, and ignoring or diminishing our God Who gave this gift to them, and the church.

So many Christians are following a man or woman! It is great to identify gifts, but if that person makes a mistake or falls down, we are more inclined to vilify them, instead of helping them up again. Human beings can’t live with that kind of intense scrutiny. What we are looking at when someone has these incredible gifts is God Himself in action, through a human being. That human being is fallible! But God is NOT. I’ve met many Christians who follow Brother I-have-the-gift-of-miracles, or Sister I-can-prophesy-at-the-drop-of-a-hat, but they left their church because the person they were following turned out to have feet of clay. We must look beyond the person and see our Generous Father Who loves to give and give and give.  Please, please don’t follow a person —FOLLOW JESUS!

Love your pastor, support his ministry, and praise God for the man or woman of God and the gifts He has given them. Fantastic. But don’t put them in a place that was never theirs in the first place! This life has plenty of hard knocks in it, and it can turn anyone’s head to find that they are being appreciated for something that was given to them before they were ever born. Unfortunately those actions transform from faith in Almighty God, into a performance from the platform. We need a holy REVERENCE for God Himself…  “The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding.” Proverbs 9:10.

Let’s acknowledge what Father God has graciously given us when He gave us so many gifts — but those gifts will never surpass the generosity of the Giver.  When Ananias and Sapphira decided to be clever and cheat God — they got dead in the process. Those people who saw it fell on the their faces in the reverential fear of the Lord. They saw beyond those two dead people in front of them, to the God Who deserved far better … and they responded. We can wait for God to appear in our churches like He did that day with Ananias and Sapphira, or we can choose to get on our faces and give God the glory He will always deserve, right now! Whether we feel Him or not.

It is a terribly demeaning thing when we tolerate popularity in the church, and we choose to see one church as better than another. Our churches are to depend on Him, we do not control Him. He must always be in His rightful place. As the King of our hearts, our Saviour, our Lord, and our Master. It is always our joy to serve our King – even if we are cleaning out the church bathrooms.

Let’s remember that He is not with us to be at our beck and call. Before we got here He was here, when we’ve gone … He will still be here. That’s what everlasting means. It is not just a matter of respect, we all need more reverence. We can respect an enemy and still hate them. Reverence on the other hand, means we cherish every moment with Him. He’s the reason we get out of bed, each day. We listen carefully for a word, a whisper of our precious Saviour in our hearts.

Too many greatly needed saints have fallen over because we’ve lost, a deep loving awe, and profound respect for our Heavenly Father. We put those poor people on a pedestal and they fell off! When and if God uses anyone, we need to watch our head, Fred, because human beings can quite easily get puffed up by acclaim. Bye 👋.

P3406 Living like the bible is true.

Every single day, many people reading this blog get on public transport, or maybe they walk or get into a car, and head off to their place of employment. Before they go, they don’t check out how many accidents have occurred to their type of bus or train or car – they just get in the vehicle and GO. They have put their faith in arriving on time, and in one piece. We all need this kind of faith in God’s Word. What if we treat His Word the same way we treat ordinary things like public transport? What if instead of this life being clouded by stuff, we responded to Jesus’ teaching like He is in the room with us?

Instead of remembering those things that we think didn’t work, our thoughts need to be continually drawn back toward what Jesus has said and already done. Then all of the focus goes off me and my efforts, and over onto His finished ministry. His ministry benefitted every single one of us. Let’s live like we believe that.  Instead of living this life randomly, remembering Jesus at oddly choreographed moments — or perhaps when the roof falls in —- He needs to become the centre of everything we give our lives to.

So when we go to work, raise our kids, interact with others …  even our leisure time … is now lived for Jesus. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” Colossians 3:23.  As we choose to live this way, we will be transformed daily, because living this way means we are using our faith. Over time, our thinking will change— it shifts to what Jesus wants from me and what He did for me. Now I read the bible listening for Him to speak to me.

There is no need for a debate about whether I should forgive or not. That’s a done deal. I give freely and love others without thinking up good reasons why I shouldn’t!  There is no longer a debate going on inside me. Nothing is about  who is right and who is wrong— our new life in Christ is about knowing what He says and living my life the way Jesus would. Every choice, every step we make to do things His way, is a step or choice toward total transformation. So we choose to respond to things the way He would, because we can be like Him. And in this process our own ideas, plans and programs fall away. He becomes the central pivotal point – not what Sister-always-has-an-opinion thinks, or Brother-if-you-don’t-believe-what-I-believe-you-are-going-straight-to-hell thinks! Our thoughts centre on what does the bible say, and what would Jesus do??

It seems to me that we’ve mistaken authority for dictatorship, and they are not the same. Nor are we ruled by a consequences consensus. That’s what gave us all these denominations in the first place. Is Christ divided? 1 Corinthians 1:13 says otherwise. The Apostle Paul was utterly brilliant — until God Himself blasted him and threw him off his horse — then he also had to learn to think about absolutely everything he had already known from Christ’s perspective. Meeting Jesus didn’t just change this man’s mind, it changed his life! God must have given Paul a huge dose of humility on that trip to heaven!

The way to be transformed is to make the same choices Jesus made. He chose to die to what He wanted, or thought he needed, to live for the will of His Heavenly Father. By the way, it is one thing to metaphorically die to self — it is totally another to lay there and let someone else do it for you. That spouse, that neighbour, that boss, that child who drives you mad, is God’s grinding wheel to transform your life. And if it seems like it is killing us … that is what it is supposed to do! It is part of the process of dying to ourselves and daily learning to live for Jesus. It is as real as those nails and that cross were. Let’s use our faith to step out of the boat of this world’s opinions and start moving into our Heavenly Father’s ways. What if what we know about the Lord was more real than the things around us?

We learn grace when we choose to act like Jesus would  toward people who are not treating us well. Have you noticed that today many people have the most amazing energy to persecute others? It goes on and on – like most TV soapies. We can choose to default on our God-given new life arrangement, and many Christians do. It is so much easier to explain away the bits we feel we can’t do. But it is far better to seek out what He says in the bible, particularly in the New Testament. It’s not difficult to think like Jesus does, it is just very hard on our flesh.

When we live, day by day, moment by moment choosing to follow the Lord, we are choosing LIFE. ABUNDANT LIFE.  We have yet to see fully what that means, we simply know that Jesus Himself lived like this. Heaven comes down, because heaven is attracted to the smell of sacrificial living, when it is done for Jesus’ sake. Let’s keep this fact before our eyes, Father God sacrificed His Son to redeem anyone who wants to be saved. That shows us that what we run away from, the Lord goes toward.

As we live like His Way of thinking, doing and being is true, and it is — that’s when our faith-filled actions lead to His truth totally saturating and inhabiting our lives. Faith is the pathway into this new way of life God has given us. We don’t just live this way to raise the dead, we also live that way to raise our hopes when all seems lost. That faith that saved us, will transform our lives as we use it day by day. It all starts with what we SAY or choose not to SAY.

Living the way Jesus Himself did, day by day, by loving others and choosing to obey Him – means we are living like the bible is true. IT IS. We will continue to have only a little of the power of God, while we choose to put our faith into simply being saved. I believe that power is released through walking by faith in love, humility, daily releasing His grace to others, and following Him. Bye. 👋.

P3402 Move from plodding into yielding.

“Let me emphasise this: As you YIELD to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self-life. When your self-life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit you hinder Him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your self-life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self-life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit. But when you yield to the life of the Spirit, you will no longer be living under the law, but soaring above it!” Galatians 5:16-18 TPT.

Paul just said that better than I ever could. Yielding is a dynamic approach to the Word of God. We don’t have to have some sort of passive, informal laissez faire attitude.. We have the Holy Spirit and His book – They are always right!  However, I just want to try to break this stuff down a bit so it is more accessible. If anyone has things in their life they think can’t do without — then that stuff is distracting us from our purpose. I ask Him: “Lord in this area of my life why aren’t You enough? I know You are, the bible says so! But something inside me is pushing me in the wrong direction. Please reveal it to me.” I don’t want head-knowledge to push me into places, where He personally wants to lead me.

We need to remember, that the Lord in His infinite wisdom, sees our sincere efforts toward obedience, and He undergirds us. Our God got His hands bloodied and broken while He cleaned up our lives. He knows our hearts, and our want to – is as good as – we did it. However, we cannot afford the luxury of continuing to return to the same captive place over and over again. The enemy waits for us in those places of temptation and memories of wrong doing.

Let’s keep on pressing on, facing Jesus and the cross – pushing away those temptations and replacing carnal thoughts with His ways and His way of thinking. Our ‘want to’ counts, because we can be assured He will help us, but that isn’t the final step… Faith comes next! I have sat with Him said: “I don’t want to do this, but I will do it anyway. Please help me to do this without making the other person feel awkward.” It’s called trust – we learn to trust Him as we let Him take care of whatever it is, and bring us through to a new place. And then we begin to take faith steps.

At the same time, we won’t always notice when we are being hindered by something, Have you ever said to someone else: ‘I can’t hear the Holy Spirit the way you do, what am I doing wrong?’ My next question is — ‘who am I mad at?’ I mean, who makes my teeth clench, and I react to them like I just heard fingernails down a blackboard. Who can’t say a word right around me because they set me on edge? Deal with that. Forgiveness is not a feeling – it is a GOD TRAIT. When we haven’t got access to it, something is blocking the flow between us and the Holy Spirit.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14,15. Forgiveness is not an optional extra that depends upon how dastardly the deeds were against you — unforgiveness puts us in opposition to God Himself! In this modern world, our minds and emotions have been let loose to wander, plot and plan. There are times we can’t hear God, because we’ve wandered onto this world’s wavelength, not HIS. And because we are spiritual people, the enemy will hiss lies into our ears, telling us things that are not true … but they seem true at the time.

The time to yield hardly ever comes up when I feel ready. You and I have been invited to a ‘come as you are party.’ We come as we are, honestly and truthfully, and leave His Presence with a brand new vision of a different way to live. Yielding to His will His way makes it easier to accept the difference. Otherwise doubt creeps in. If I am in doubt then I check things out with my spouse, and if necessary, also my pastor, because they both watch over my soul.

Plodding along playing ‘hit and miss’ with our faith, means we can get frustrated and give up really easily. This world is like being in the middle of a fire-fight, with bombs and machine guns blazing away all around us. We will always need the quiet steadfast love, experience and kindness of Jesus, to keep us sane, safe and moving forward. If you have ever followed anyone you will know you have to keep your eyes on them, or you can easily lose them in a crowd. My favourite question to ask myself is this —’what is Jesus doing right now?“

Here’s a thought: He is not likely to be screaming at the kids, or that guy who just pinched your car parking spot. If we happen to be screaming, then we need to take a breath and stop, we’ve lost our peace. Don’t concentrate on who pinched it! Concentrate on yielding to Him so you can get it back! Ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. I am learning to stop in the middle of a sentence when that sentence is not going to be profitable. A-n-d …. sad to say … at other times I stop in the middle of a sentence when I forget what I started out to say, because it is another senior moment! Getting things right is not our aim, our aim is to stay firmly fixed and grounded within His love. (Ephesians 3:17.)

The Lord loves to helps us, we can always have His input. Plus the blueprint for our own lives will come more clearly into focus. Moving from plodding to yielding is costly. We will have to give up our idea of immediate answers, in favour of learning to wait for His ways to be revealed. However, plodding along does not usher in joy! As Christians we are blessed to create the atmosphere around us, we don’t just plod through it. Yielding to Him opens this world up to Who He is.  Walk with the Holy Spirit – the flesh will fade away. Bye. 👋

P 3398 Faith has one primary purpose.

“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace! But we have the true hope that comes from being made right with God, and by the Spirit we wait eagerly for this hope. When you’re joined to the Anointed One, circumcision and religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is living in the faith that works and expresses itself through love!” Galatians 5:4-6 TPT.

You know I’ve done enough stupid stuff in my life to know that positive talk won’t help me to use my faith and love others. Mainly because whatever you talk yourself into, you can talk yourself OUT OF! Plus satan would be de-light-ed to help me to go the wrong way. Even other people’s reassurances won’t help when my focus goes off – ‘whatever the Lord is doing,’ and lands on ‘what’s in it for me?’

Yesterday I looked at David and his faith-filled interactions with the Lord. No matter what happened in his life, David’s heart stayed right with God – even when he was corrected. You and I are blessed to be able to live that way too, because of Jesus and what He did. So this morning, hubby and I were talking about how much we need to be reminded that God doesn’t love us for what we do or don’t do – He loves us because Love is Who He is. Now we always have a choice in the arena of faith. Do we believe Him or not? Will we let Him make ‘love’ who we are?

If we don’t make that choice to deliberately keep aware of His Grace, we can become so focussed on serving the Lord, and making sure we do everything right – that we forget to enjoy every single day what we have been given. When we live with rules and judgment over ourselves, we are much more likely to give that junk away to someone else: Peter made that clear when he said: “…such as I have give I thee!” Acts 3:6.

His focus in the above scripture, was spot on. He honed in on being a benefit to those around him, not the law. So giving away what he had, meant that he lived aware that he had fresh clean water bubbling up inside him. His faith was always active. I want that, and I’m pretty sure you do too – that’s why we are all taking this journey together. When our focus is on right and wrong, eventually, we will start focussing on, and judging ourselves, and others.

This wrong kind of perspective can distract anyone from the revelation we’ve been given about God’s Grace and what He has done for us. Jesus did not only come to save us from our big or little sins – He came to save and restore our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Sin is the lesser thing, the Lord Jesus’ primary focus is always on redemption and restoration and His love being shed abroad in our hearts – by FAITH. We receive love by faith, and we give it away … using our faith.

When we read the gospels, it is clear Jesus wants us to know what His Father likes and wants from us. And self-recrimination and condemnation of others is not on that list. Micah 6:8 tells us that God has shown us what is good. “He has shown you, O man, what is good;  And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”

Adam and Eve lost their fellowship with God; but Jesus, the second Adam, is the Founder of a whole new spiritually-aware kind of people. He came to restore us and exponentially increase our faith, love and fellowship with our Heavenly Father, so that we could begin to know the kind of Oneness that the Trinity enjoys. We cannot have that when we have enmity with one another. Our focus will go off faith and fellowship and love, over onto finding fault with others.

That’s when we decide to protect ME at someone else’s cost. Maybe we don’t like these people because they do this and that, or we don’t like this member of our family because they did so and so. You know, loving people doesn’t have to mean we give them permission to mistreat us, or that we approve of the way they treat others. Loving them means that we use our faith, put them into God’s hands, and live the way He says.

We can’t afford to embrace the idea that everyone thinking the same way is the criteria for restoration. It isn’t! It can’t be! We don’t all think the same way! Almighty God Himself has to be the One Who unites us.  However, His love is a universal language, and expressing that love, using our faith, as He leads us, can take away barriers. That’s what God’s love given freely to all of us undeserving sinners did! It took away all barriers. We can now enjoy Who He is, and He can expand our viewpoints over and above our prejudices – so that our prejudices… fade … away.

If someone is in error, then we need to remind them from God’s Word what His way looks like. If necessary then we will engage the church leadership in this process. Withdrawing love cannot be the way forward. As we co-operate with the Holy Spirit, and let Him love people through us, we will learn to release our faith as we choose to live in love. Meanwhile Galatians 5:6 says: “And we to whom Christ has given eternal life don’t need to worry about whether we have been circumcised or not, or whether we are obeying the Jewish ceremonies or not; for all we need is faith working through love.”

The law can’t produce what faith does, in our own lives or in the lives of others. Faith has one primary purpose – to activate our lives with love. Bless you 👋.

P 3397 God is our place of safety and shelter.

“Keep me safe, O mighty God. I run to You, my safe place. I said to Yahweh, “You are my Maker and my Master. Any good thing You find in me has come from You.” And He said to me, “My holy lovers in the land are My glorious ones, who fulfil all My desires.” … …The way You counsel me makes me praise You more, for Your whispers in the night give me wisdom, showing me what to do next. Because I set You, Yahweh, always close to me, my confidence will never be weakened, for I experience Your wraparound Presence every moment.” Psalms 16:1-3, 7-8 TPT.

Isn’t this fantastic? I must have read it about ten times. I think because of the pressures we all face daily, it can get very hard to hold onto how loving, generous, good and gracious the Lord is. These verses, by the way, come from David talking to God, after he became an adult. This is not that teenager on the side of the hill watching sheep — this is the man who faced many struggles. I often need to read and reread in the bible the history of other people and their interactions with God. There are people in there who have faced all kinds of terrible trials – yet they chose to have a heart of worship and praise.

Let’s look at the beginning of David’s relationship with the Lord: “And when He had removed him (Saul), he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also He gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will.” This is reported in Acts 13:21,22, by Paul.  The Psalm and this testimony are referring to a time in David’s life when he was already king. I don’t know if you ever have these thoughts but when I read those two passages, they blew my mind. Almighty God is telling us — this man, this king … this fallible human being who stole another man’s wife, got her pregnant, and then had her husband killed! … is a man after God’s own heart? It makes me ask: “what was it about David, that brought out that response from God Himself?”

I prayed about why the Lord said this to David, and then I went back to the bible for an answer because I didn’t have one! My revelation for today, was that our Heavenly Father’s heart must be very different from the kind of heart I often see displayed in our churches. We don’t seem to have the same way of looking at things – at all. Father God told David he would pay for his sin, and the baby died. He also had a terrible time with his other sons, who died too. But what I came to understand is that those things did not change David’s heart of praise and worship. I think  he had such confidence in His Heavenly Father’s Love, goodness and faithfulness as well as the Lord’s forgiving nature.

We know from the scriptures that David praised God purely because He is worthy, not because life always worked out well for him. He had the absolute assurance that when God forgives – no matter what it is, you will be forgiven. And that is that. Done and dusted. This king accepted the punishment that God thought was necessary, and at the same time, the Lord kept His good opinion of this man, as we read in Acts 13. His choice to believe in God’s goodness is such a witness. Sad to say, I’m not so sure Christians feel that way about someone who has sinned badly. We are more likely to judge the behaviour, and not the man’s heart. We need to pray over and over again for eyes to see what our Father sees.

The following verse tells us clearly that God chose David because of his heart:  “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” This statement occurs before David ever sinned, when he was still a young man. My conclusion is this, our hearts deeply matter to the Lord. Without His influence, we can mistakenly accentuate our sins and shortcomings, and ignore the fact that the Lord says clearly that He loved David’s heart. Let’s ask for protection over our hearts to keep them from being broken by satan’s lies.

I think David is in the bible to teach us what a yielded heart looks like. Because of him, we can see that hearts make mistakes and have to undergo correction, but God’s opinion of this man did not change, because His behaviour was never going to be the criteria! A Saviour was coming … The One Who was sent here to take away the sins of the whole world — and that included David’s sins too. Sin is our enemy, but unconfessed, cultivated and a lack of repentance from sins can slowly drag us away from the only One Who is the Answer. So will fear of recrimination from God Himself.

My conclusion is this: Our heavenly Father uses flawed instruments to bring about His will and good pleasure, because His criteria is not what we often think it is. “Let Him who boasts, boast in the Lord!” His ways are very different from ours. We think pleasing God is simply about behaviour, but Father God is more concerned with the state of our hearts. I’ve added this today because it is such a good prayer:

“Lord, you’re so kind and tenderhearted and so patient with people who fail You! Your love is like a flooding river overflowing its banks with kindness. You don’t look at us only to find our faults, just so that You can hold a grudge against us.” Psalms 103:8-9 TPT. Thank you Lord and Amen! Bye. 👋. PS Good thing to remember, God doesn’t just extend mercy to us, He extends mercy to our enemies too.

P3392 Wisdom must be sought.

Sometimes we verbally understand, but we still can’t see what Jesus is showing us, because our minds are so filled up with the things of the ordinary life we are living. We listen carefully, but there are times when we can’t hear what the Lord is saying – because we already have a preconceived idea about the subject and the answer. Those things stop us from mixing what we read, or can see, in the bible, with faith. The following thoughts are suggestions by the way, and I hope they will prove to be helpful in the area of gaining wisdom – they help me. The bible clearly tells us in James 1:5-8:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” Double-mindedness is sure to shoot any one of us in the foot. To have a single mind, we need to keep our focus on what Jesus wants. He is more important than our own personal, or even denominational principles.

Here are four keys I really like and use, that talk about walking in wisdom. The first is we need to live prepared to say: “I’m sorry.” There is nothing more powerful than a genuine apology prompted by repentance. Some of us say: “I’m sorry” like we are saying: “Would you please pass the salt?” Sadly, that can be merely lip service, not repentance. I believe “I’m sorry” is a heading, under which both people can come to understand one another better. This means we will gain back our brother and learn something … all-at-the-same-time!

My next step about finding and recognising wisdom is this: “I need help.” In the verse above from James, he advises us that we should ask the Lord to help us. Father God Himself is the source of all wisdom. He knows what we need to hear, and how we need to hear it. In my limited experience, many people often go from one person to another asking the same question. It seems to me they are looking for someone to agree with what they think or hope, rather than actually seeking God’s wisdom. God’s wisdom is an arrow that shoots straight at the heart – it does not miss its mark. Man’s wisdom can be corrupted by human agendas.

The Holy Spirit’s wisdom is sound and strong, it doesn’t have to look for a consensus, because His Word can stand up anywhere, despite any opposition. When we count how many people said this, and how many said that, and then pick a winner suiting ourselves, that’s foolishness. Our Heavenly Father’s wisdom is sovereign, and if we want a second opinion about what we think we’ve heard from the Lord, then we need to go and dig about in the bible, or find someone else, a more mature Christian, who knows stuff we don’t yet. Some people have walked with Jesus for a while, and they’ve picked up His wisdom along the way.

That leads me to my next point, which is this: “I don’t know.” We haven’t “arrived’ anywhere – we are all still in His processes, so we are always going to need to hear His point of view. The bible is a huge book that has so much in it. Give yourself a break, not knowing everything is not a disaster, it’s human. Feel free to ask questions of the pastor, or more senior members of the Body of Christ. Do a word study for yourself.

Most of the wisdom I have personally gleaned, comes from doing things the wrong way first! Sigh. Not knowing in our hearts, or understanding something is not a sin. It doesn’t make us stupid, or, even worse … un-spiritual! We often accidentally misunderstand the Lord and each other. And the Lord is non-partisan – He gives wisdom to profit everyone, not just a select few. In today’s world, knowing things equals power. Our carefully cultivated, deep abiding respect for the Lord and His Ways, is the beginning of wisdom.

Here’s the last one: “I was wrong.” All of us could find ourselves stumbling over this one. It has become very easy to avoid responsibility for our own actions. People move from denying whatever happened, to publicly stringing others up naked, by their toenails … out of pure spite or revenge. We dare not use His truth to prove our own point, unless we are sure He asked us to do it. That’s not what truth is for!

I’ve noticed that other people are so desperate to vindicate themselves they resort to using the media to make a point. Saying things like: ‘It’s not my fault! It can’t be my fault, I will fall apart if it turns out to be my fault. NO! A thousand times NO … I simply must blame you, because I can’t face my own sinfulness and lack of love. ERGO: YOU made me do it. It’s YOUR fault.’

That sort of attitude cannot foster a cohesive and interactive congregation, where relationships can thrive. It can also be why churches have cliques, or why we shop around and try to find someone else who shares our pet answer to life – simply to use their opinions to reinforce ours. In other words, I’ve decided my safety will take precedence over yours, and now we are stuck in a situation that is going nowhere.

So! Let’s recap: we have four less-than-popular attitudes that could limit the possibility of us walking in wisdom as His child, unless we choose to take them in. “I’m sorry,” I need help,” “I don’t know,” “ I was wrong.” These things will all come naturally as we learn to embrace humility. We can easily limit ourselves by working hard to maintain a point of view that is not a reflection of His heart toward others. Lastly, God’s wisdom must be sought, treasured, and applied to ME, first. Bye 👋.

P3385 Don’t let fear knock you out of the ring.

“So we can confidently say,“The Lord is my Helper, I will not fear, what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6. That’s one of those rhetorical questions nobody likes. That’s probably because most of us could give quite a list of stuff man can do to us. But I wonder if we know, just as thoroughly, how much God has done for us, right here, right now? Time for revision.

This verse tells us, He didn’t just save us, He also enables us. “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8. Notice the predominant word “all.” Now let’s look at 1 John 4:18 it says: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.”

Begin by revising how much God’s perfect love has given you, personally. Yes, He saved you, and yes, He has helped you – thank you Lord! But there’s more … read the bible. Go through your journals. A journal can help you revise what He has already done for you spiritually, physically, and mentally. After all that revision – go and find someone who needs His love and love on them. The action of loving others uses faith, which releases more faith. Faith fights fear, so use yours. Go and spread the love He has already given you around. Start SINGING!! “Sing for joy to God our strength …“

Moving on to Psalm 55:22 MSG bible: “Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders, He’ll carry your load, He’ll help you out. He’ll never let good people topple into ruin. But you, God, will throw the others into a muddy bog, Cut the lifespan of assassins and traitors in half.” And we think video games are blood thirsty! The point is, God’s always with us even though we may not feel it. The bible says it, we believe it, and that settles it.

Actually, it is far more accurate to say: We’re with Him!  Don’t look at the size of the things coming against you, look at the  power of our God to get you through. Read and reread the book! Sometimes we are viewing this life through the wrong lenses. Let’s not borrow someone else’s glasses, let’s ask the Lord for HIS. His eyes see the things we don’t. (Ephesians 1:18)

2 Timothy 1:7 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” What a way to identify the Holy Spirit!! Anything short of this verse means we are messing about in the wrong spirit. Never forget we are all in a battle, we live in enemy territory, and we don’t belong here.

Now let’s recap what our truth is: God is with us, and He will help us. We do not need to be afraid of someone else’s face. When I was little, and I did something my parent didn’t like, I would see ‘the unhappy face!’ However, our Father’s face always says: “I love you so much, and I am here for you. Let’s do this thing together.” He’s not just sending you out – He’s going with you!  The same God Who helped Abraham and the Lord Jesus is going with us.

We were not designed to carry burdens in this new life Jesus gave us. Part of that new life is freedom. Freedom means I can refuse to accept the weight of whatever is going on. I still get to fix whatever He tells me to do, but I am obedient, under His instructions, and the weight of what the Lord says I need to do, will not drown me.  I can stand still and see God Himself work on my behalf – I just have to learn to leave my clock behind. Our God doesn’t do timetables, and He does not fit in with ours. Instead, He does PERFECT TIMING. There’s a difference.

If Father God did not give me a spirit of fear then what the heck am I doing with it? Why am I entertaining these thoughts? Jesus was teaching His disciples God’s Ways, in Luke 11:10, 11.“If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing—you’re at least decent to your own children. And don’t you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask Him?”

Jesus is using these illustrations to demonstrate the fact that God is wa-a-y more loving than we are. Because our Father is like that, we can, and should, always expect loving help from Him, not trickery. Good outcomes. Trickery comes from the other guy. We will have to fight our feelings; they can come at you roaring, or even in insidious whispers, telling you God has left you and He doesn’t care.  Fear is a shadow on the wall of the reality of Christ IN us.

Let’s fight for what matters – it’s OUR peace, and Jesus paid dearly for us to have it. It’s called ‘renewing your mind.’ We have the Word of God to remind ourselves our side already won! We may live in a war zone – but Jesus already won this war. Don’t let the enemy knock you out of the ring. Bye 👋.                                                                             ”Dear Lord, I thank you that I can come to You always for any reason. I’m grateful that when I pray to You, You answer me. Help me to come to You at the beginning of my fears and anxieties instead of waiting until I can’t stand them anymore. The quicker I come to You the better. You want to free me from ALL my fears. Help me look to You for help all the time so that I can be radiant with Your joy. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”

P3381 The Needy ones!

“Jesus told them, “Go back and tell John what’s going on: The blind see, The lame walk, Lepers are cleansed, The deaf hear, The dead are raised, The wretched of the earth learn that God is on their side. “Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves most blessed!” Matthew 11:4-6. In the Good News version the last verse reads like this: ‘How happy are those who have no doubts about Me!”

I found this verse yesterday, when I was reading in Matthew. Jesus is reassuring John, who is nearly at the end of his ministry, that GOD HIMSELF IS NOW IN THE HOUSE!! Wow! You gotta love the sweetness of that. John can now go on into glory because his job is done. SomeOne else has come to totally fulfil and complete the foundation of repentance and transformation John laid. This man John had lived a solitary, straightened life and at the end of it, he pointed out and spoke about Jesus. Our Saviour has appeared, and He is preaching healing, deliverance, freedom and salvation for all. Even the most miserable among us.

Jesus shows great compassion when He talks about the healing and restoration work that has already begun. Then He adds this wonderful sentence: “The wretched of the earth learn that God is on their side.”  That means so much to me. I love that the sick are healed, that is fantastic. Me too, please! But I’ve felt wretched, cast away, talked about behind my back, passed over, despised and ignored … even by members of my own family. It took me years to realise that I didn’t have to live with shame anymore. This verse reminds me that God is on the side of those people that the rest of the world would like to pretend don’t exist.

I imagine that there are a lot of people reading this that have experienced incredibly difficult things, and for many of you it has been far worse than I can bear thinking about. But right now, let’s stop to look at John, who had been so brave, so heroic, so dedicated to God’s purpose that it affected the way he lived his life. Now, at the end of his time, he needed reassurance. It illustrates this man’s humanity, and God’s Grace toward him.

It is an interesting fact that no matter how spiritual someone looks, life can savagely kick them, and they don’t always deserve what they get. Some people have been severely persecuted for speaking truth, just like John! Some have called out sin where and when they saw it. What a blessing this little conversation is for all of us! Our Loving Heavenly Father overlooks no-one, even at the end of our earthly lives.

Meanwhile, for your information: wretched means … deeply afflicted, dejected, or distressed in body or mind: extremely or deplorably bad or distressing; in exile, a despised person. That sounds a bit like John’s life. Today, that’s what I briefly want to talk about. There are precious people all around us that this world wants to throw away. Plus the ones who have fallen so far down a hole they can no longer look up and see the light — they are too bowed down, and full of rejection and despair. Jesus dearly loves them, and God is on their side.

We are blessed to live on this side of Calvary and know that our sins were all thrashed into and onto Jesus’ body, soul and spirit, as He died a despised sinner’s death for us. He was our totally pure and innocent Saviour, Who practiced love wherever He went. Jesus didn’t deserve that punishment that was meted out on Him. But let’s never forget that Calvary was also a heavenly transaction. Everything Jesus did had an effect upon this world, and the next.

He didn’t just come to die for our sins … … thank God that He did that! He came to show us, in Person, what God’s Kingdom is supposed to look like. What it looks like right now where He is. We are His people. The people who re-present Him. A representative generally refers to something, or someone that acts on behalf of others, or serves as a typical example of a larger group. We are His people and we know our Saviour – we are here to do great exploits for His sake. That means we will see miracles, but it can also mean loving those who don’t, won’t, or can’t love us back!

You and I have been appointed by Jesus to be His hands and feet, and we have the honour of bringing our Father’s incredible love to one person at a time, as He leads us. We carry that love with us to the desperate, the lonely, the forsaken, the wretched ones of this world. Personally, I think we could find these people in the most peculiar places! In palaces, governments, offices, digging ditches, in prison, begging for food and water, stealing from others … many are in our schools. The people who have no hope. Some are quite obviously wretched, others have their pain and suffering well-hidden by bright fake smiles. Many people hide because otherwise their shame, or even their heartache can be seen.

Yet, like John, they are not only loved by our God, they are to be commended for surviving things we can’t even bear to think about. This world thinks it is terrible to be called wretched — but today I realised it is a beautiful thing. God dearly loves the wretched, the sick, the sinners, the lost, the unlovely, the silently suffering ones, THE NEEDY ONES … and He is on everyone’s side. Man is that a great sentence! Bye. 👋

P3379 What have we learnt?

Let’s take a look at what happened at the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11:3-9:

“They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let Us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that We may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”                                     But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.                                                                      So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.”

This is a difficult passage of scripture to look at. It presents what I would call, an interesting situation. Almighty God interfered with man’s plans — by wrecking their communication with each other. Hmmm… Smart phone anyone? It is fascinating how in today’s world, satan has come up with a similar way to bring about the same result. If human beings are dangerous and clever enough to do all that stuff on our own … and history proves this to be true … then …

…let’s pause and imagine what a people who choose to be connected to each other, and worship and serve Almighty God can do!

The temptation in the Garden wasn’t just about being disobedient, that couple wanted to be like God. It’s just like the stuff that went down at Babel. Human beings think we can do anything! We’ve walked on the moon, see how clever we are! Almighty God made the moon … and He put it where it is with His fingers! Humanity needs to get over itself … We can’t even feed the poor that live in our neighbourhood, because making ourselves feel more important has taken precedence.

The knowledge of good and evil is a dangerous thing in the hands of unredeemed people. They can end up making plans to rule the world! Let’s not even mention that they think that they are so smart they don’t need God anymore. And, even today, we are still busy trying to make a name for ourselves.

Right now, it seems that we talk at each other, and use abbreviations and trite phrases to communicate our feelings — with likes and dislikes. Thumbs up, or thumbs down.  What makes me sad, is that people are buying into this stuff – even our children! It seems we are doomed to continually make the same mistakes. Yet we still think we are smarter than God.

Right here and now in this world, human relationships have again been scattered and made null and void. If we don’t like someone else, we either kill them, blow them up, maim them, divorce them or avoid them. Co-operation has gone right out of the window, and we’ve traded in true human engagement for convenience … and loneliness. Pretty soon we will all be using AI to talk to each other. When will we learn we are not in charge here? What have we learnt from the Tower of Babel?

Even in our churches, holy things have been so twisted that we don’t feel free to actually be real with each other anymore. We can’t seem to tell others what is really going on in our hearts. We are afraid that a whole lot of judgment will rush toward us, roaring down the turnpike!

Just like it was at the Tower of Babel WE must decide – is there anything we can’t do?  … YES! … We can’t save ourselves!! And despite our very best efforts to live forever, we can’t do that either. Many people are trying so hard to preserve their lives, yet they end up looking like the Crypt Keeper whose face has been carefully ironed instead! Yikes! Meanwhile, praise the Lord, eternal life is safely in the hands of our Heavenly Father, who cannot be corrupted or make mistakes.

My point is that we are not as smart as we like to think we are. Yes, we can build the tallest buildings on the earth, and search the deepest trenches in the ocean – but we cannot save ourselves. We will continue to be a hard-headed, hard hearted, wicked, pitiless, miserly, miserable people who torment and torture each other — without Christ Himself showing us another way to live. Humanity was made to live in God’s Presence! Father God visited Adam and Eve every single evening to talk with them. Look at what we have given up! Oh, thank God, His mercy endures forever …!!

Jesus took EVERYTHING to the cross with Him. Like the bible says: “It’s finished!” God has done something so extraordinary, because of what Jesus did for us. He has given us the opportunity to walk with Him again. Right here, right now, today. We can use our faith in what Christ did for us, to rise above our past and have a truthful, fruitful relationship with Him, and each other. Jesus Christ freely chose to represent us before God’s wrath. It was the greatest work of restoration of relationships this world has ever, or will ever, see. And Father God’s goodness sent Jesus after us.

“…When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26. There will always be lessons for human beings to learn. Humility is a great starting place. Bye 👋
