P2734 “Let HIS mind be in us …”

People like the Apostle Paul wrote what they wrote to equip the saints, as well as to promote unity, and maturity. And most times today’s saints are scrabbling about in the dirt fighting over this perceived bit of turf or that pathway, or this verse interpretation, or that application! All our theories are just that – theories. We are more concerned about being doctrinally right, than we are about learning to love people – even when they are difficult.  One day – we will ALL know how wrong we’ve been. In the Presence of the Lord there is no room for anything but worship and awe, so what WE think won’t matter! 🙌 At that point, all our theories and ideas will be less than dust atoms.

The early church had skirmishes with each other and things weren’t always perfect. However I am so sad about the things that are not resolved in our churches today. Our sure foundation is Christ, we cannot build on the rubble of disagreement. Where we fall down is we are not working to restore people when things get broken and God is not pleased with our hard hearts. These men and women in the book could not live without Him – so they did whatever the Holy Spirit said, so they could stay in step with Him and others!  I am not trying to be rude, but YOU are not the Apostle Paul … we know that he had sound doctrine  … and neither am I! Let’s learn to walk in humility toward restoration.

I know so many precious people who are waiting, waiting. waiting for the next move of the Holy Spirit to come. They want Him to fix the mess we have made, because we’ve allowed opinions to become more important than people or God Himself! Human passion does not equal God’s passion. When we throw ourselves on the altar weeping, what do we do after that? Many of us want Him to transform us in a heartbeat, when most of us have had a lifetime to learn how to co-operate with Him! It’s time to repent of wasting the time He has already given us, and start pursuing living the way that He lived.

Philippians 2:5-8: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”Humility is not about what we say – it is designed to be demonstrated, frequently.

In these turbulent times I’m personally looking for prophets that will tell us that we need to repent and repair things in our own lives, today – otherwise I’m not very interested in what they say. All I know is that Jesus will come back – one day, maybe soon, maybe not!… And He’s coming back for a passionate people who will die for each other and what they believe. The Holy Spirit is looking for the heart of Christ in all of us. And what we aim at matters. Even if we miss the mark, we need to keep aiming at loving one another, promoting unity, as well as embracing repentance when we are wrong. Humbling ourselves and admitting our faults to one another is part of the way that happens!

The Lord is looking for the harmony that comes from seeking His Face, personally and corporately. We’ve all been aiming too low, we are aiming at promoting our churches and their doctrines, not Jesus!  The Holy Spirit is the One Who would love to lead us into true unity. His Presence with us, in us and through us will be that Unity. Unity is not just agreement – unity is a heart attitude. Agreements can be broken. Read the book.

Transformation, for individuals and for all of us corporately, is a process. Let’s choose to participate in that process, voluntarily, every single day, whether we think it is necessary or not. Unity in the Body of Christ does not begin with everybody agreeing – unity is when you or I would die for someone else just because God loves them. I don’t have to agree with their theology!

Day by day, we His help to see and know one another after the Spirit, not just by what is said. Let’s learn patience from Him when people aren’t all they can be. To display kindness and mercy like He would to those who are in need. We will need to live in self-control when someone else jumps all over our toes. Lastly we must consistently practice attentive faithfulness to His ways. As we do these things, the Holy Spirit will help us. Unity is the centre of Christ’s joy. 3 John 4. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

The bible says things clearly. LOVE has to be our aim – our great quest. Love is not just another key – it is the way forward into UNITY. The Holy Spirit knows the way you should go, ask Him to help you walk that way. Let’s all pray for the same mindset that was in the Lord Himself … Bye. 👋

P 2591 My thoughts about mercy and grace.

“Overflow with mercy and compassion for others, just as your heavenly Father overflows with mercy and compassion for all.”” Luke 6:36 TPT. “Mercy is NOT getting what I deserve, and Grace is getting what I DON’T deserve…” Bill Johnson.

Personally, I’m not actually sure Christians have absorbed the fact that the undeserved mercy and/or compassion we have been given, has been given to us in over-abundant excess – so we have lots, and we can give it away! We need to be alert and become the people who can discern His mercy when it comes toward us…. instead of choosing to become debt collectors, who collect other people’s mistakes! A whole lot of people have actually been very good to us, when we were too dumb to know the way we were acting, was not Godly. Recognising you have been given undeserved mercy and compassion is the best way I know to abound in it … as well as overflow with it toward other people!

Here’s a helpful hint – you and I have been given mercy because we NEED mercy!  And at the absolute bottom of that thought is the idea that you and I are not all that. Meanwhile, it does not look like we will end up being all that, any time soon either! 😂 Human beings can easily lack bigness of heart. But because we are following Jesus, and He allowed His big loving heart to be broken for our sakes, our only acceptable response to His bigness is to pass that mercy and grace we received ON to others who don’t deserve it either! We all need a whole of lot of mercy and compassion, all the time — particularly the overflowing kind.

The problem with human beings is that we can think quite well of ourselves, and we can be ignorant of how incredibly costly the mercy we’ve freely received from others  – IS. Godly mercy is expensive to those amongst us who turn the other cheek, walk the extra mile … and patiently wait for you to find out you are not the nice person you think you are! I try to remember that the MERCY I have been given cost Jesus Christ His life. He has given us such amazing transforming benefits by releasing His grace and mercy upon us. But one of the biggest things I need to remember is that He actively encouraged me to pass what I GOT from Him, on to YOU.

The best way to begin comprehend what mercy, compassion or grace really means, is to realise I don’t and will not ever deserve either one of them because of the sinful state He found me in. These graces are cultivated. God didn’t feel sorry for me – He forgave me! Therefore, I can’t brag about something I was given because the Giver is always the greater One. The truth is it doesn’t actually matter if you don’t deserve it either – you and I are in the same boat, and next time it will probably be my turn! We need to live this new life we were given remembering that we have nothing that was not given to us. (1 Corinthians 4:7)

Most people don’t understand how utterly rebellious we still are! Without daily recognition of God’s grace and His mercy that freely flowed out from the cross toward us … we can easily become a kind of penultimate narcissist with a complete self-interest that is totally pathological!  Sadly, there are people don’t even bother to hide that anymore. They wear their attitude with pride like a badge, and call it self-discovery!! To be merciful to difficult people in today’s world will take every bit of the mercy and grace Jesus has given us. We will have to go back to Calvary’s well over and over again. That’s what “leaning on Him” means. We are in a process, with His supervision, that will soften our hard hearts toward the world we live in, if we let it.

A hardened heart does not comprehend mercy, or grace. The more we allow the Lord to break our hearts with what breaks His heart, the softer our hearts will become. Human beings don’t want to live like that. So this means I will continually need to get these things from the Lord, to give to you! That takes humility. Very few of us know that we aren’t naturally humble. We’ve all learnt to make nice polite noises, and remain silent in the face of someone else’s bad attitude, and so we hope that will do. The wisdom to keep your mouth shut is not the same thing as deliberately loving the person who hurts you.

Here’s a thought that may save your life and sanity, as well as your often-broken heart  … people who lack these things, can’t give you what they haven’t got! They are childishly stuck in ‘me first’ and ‘my turn!’ These dear folk might understand these things in principle, but the reality is this, they are scared to face the revelation of who they actually are – inside. Christians are not nice. We are redeemed not nice!  When we face who we really are – in the light of His goodness and unconditional love – it stops being scary, and His grace and mercy get bigger.

Everything that we thought was good about ourselves DISSOLVES in the reality light of Christ’s own character and loving kindness toward us. We need to be progressively reshaped into His image one decision at a time. And learning to receive and give away grace and mercy empowers us to do it. 👋

P 2482 Avoid self-deception like the plague!

“Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception.So always let His Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life! If you listen to the Word and don’t live out the message you hear, you become like the person who looks in the mirror of the Word to discover the reflection of his face in the beginning. You perceive how God sees you in the mirror of the Word, but then you go out and forget your divine origin.” James 1:22-24 TPT.

Because it is a New Year, this is one of the times, we hopefully like to revise our thinking. It is incredibly easy within this honour system the Lord has given us, to deceive ourselves. The only clue we have that we are doing that is the absence of the Holy Spirit. The absence of His Presence means we have fallen out of harmony with Him and He has simply quietly gone away. He’s incredibly gentle and humble, and He likes to remain unseen, and so it is up to each one of us to honour Him by taking what He wrote in His book, seriously.

I make it my priority to pay attention to His way of life – the stuff written in His book – plus the things He says to me  personally… and they are also in the book! I would rather look like a goose, than accidentally send Him away. Sadly, my humanity still gets in the way regularly – I wander off into judgment. Watching the NEWS is one of my downfalls. I start having opinions!! And if you pick on one of my kids I will still love you but … you won’t be my best friend quickly! You can see that I am not perfected in this area …. but like the scripture in my blog title says …I press on…  … I press on because Jesus is my only hope. I simply do not know how people manage without Him!

Reading the bible and agreeing with what it says, is just the beginning of change. The way to read this book is to check yourself against every single line and then ask the Lord, “Do I do this?” And if something pops into your head, then you follow it up. When it comes to forgiveness, I just repent – Meh! It won’t kill me!! Actually, hilariously, 😂 it will! … But in a good way. Teehee. If we are continually hurting others, we are not abounding in love. It is way too easy to write off someone else’s pain as their problem … but if you have contributed, then how hard is it to take what you did seriously enough to ask for their prayers and help, and the Lord’s help? That’s what humility looks like.

Unfortunately, some forms of humility can be imitated, but in our heart of hearts we really do know when we are feigning something … it simply doesn’t resonate, and the matter keeps on coming up! Then the only person you are fooling is yourself. To me, obeying what the bible says and paying particular attention to what Jesus taught us, is my way of presenting my body as a living sacrifice. That’s my go-to method of worship at all times. Anyone can sing and wave their arms about, but unless our hearts are engaged in the process of renewing our minds and actions, you can go away from worship the same way you went in.

Even when I actually don’t want to obey, I still go to the Lord and tell Him that I know that my attitude is wrong, and I desperately need His help to obey Him. Then I go and do whatever it is I don’t want to do … using my faith. I believe all this nice-ey nice-ey pretend stuff is hobbling the Body of Christ. We can all put on a good show, for a couple of hours on Sunday …but what is actually happening inside? If hearing someone’s name makes me want to punch them on the nose, then I haven’t hit real repentance yet!! Even worse still –  I definitely haven’t hit His kind of love! I can give my attitude a fancy name, or hide behind my hurt …or I can confess my fault and face my flaws – knowing that the Lord will always love me. That’s a done deal.

Hubby sent me this verse this morning – he didn’t know what I was planning to write about: “I consider Your Word to be my greatest treasure, and I treasure it in my heart to keep me from committing sin’s treason against You.” Psalms 119:11 TPT. The WAY I value His word dictates the measure of love I have for Him. If I lightly dismiss it, and then excuse myself, because I think I can’t help it … then I am resisting the Holy Spirit. I have stopped operating in faith and gone back into feelings. It means I have forgotten what I saw about myself when I read it. The more I dismiss His word, the harder my heart gets against what He wants. It also hardens my heart against others at the same time.

Reading without doing, is self-deception, and that attitude is one of the hardest things in Christianity to get rid of. Everybody else thinks you are Mr or Mrs Nice-guy but inside you are a fake pile of dirty stinking old rags. We need to remember that SIN is the one thing we all have in common! Pretending we are perfect, is self-deception. Not dealing with myself over whatever it is is just sheer laziness! Jesus provided a WAY. I exhort everyone reading today, to pay real attention to the mirror of the Word, it is the only way forward.👋🏻

P 2247 Our generosity needs to abound.

In the Lord’s family, as His kids we need to be hallmarked by our generosity to others. Both those who deserve it and, yes … even to those who don’t! Judgment is not part of our new creation in Christ make-up – we left that on the cross. We need to be givers in the way we think, and what we give is not as important as our attitude toward giving. Our first response needs to be: “How can I pray? How can I help? What do they need?”

If we want to be like our Heavenly Father, our elder Brother Jesus, and the Precious Holy Spirit we must be sincere, generous givers. “God so loved HE GAVE …” Giving is Love’s expression! And if you don’t find it easy to give sincerely, then please don’t just give up and excuse yourself by saying … “God didn’t make me that way (!)…” And please don’t say that’s your personality type! “Ask and keep on asking …”  for it. Pray to give with an open hand and an open heart. I think we can so-oo misuse that asking prayer Jesus gave us.

You know that particular verse is not just about asking for things … it’s also for the Godly traits we can see we lack! Ya might wanna selah that for a minute or two!  🤔 Jesus Himself gave humanity every minute of His spare time. When He was not talking to His Heavenly Father. He gave Himself to US.  Others – that’s our theme. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to help us with the practicalities. Like I said, this stuff is worth thinking about and acting on.

Givers don’t have to think … how much? They ask the Holy Spirit … ‘how can I help, what do these people need?’ They are not worried about their own supply, because walking with the Lord has taught them that everything they need will come from Him. This life we live as Christians is about faith. Giving generously to others teaches us about faith in ways we cannot imagine. We will never live in lack when we realise that God really does supply all our needs.

And if we don’t have it, then we don’t need it!  I am not BTW talking about giving away everything you own and sitting on the curb! Although Heidi and Rolland Baker did that and found out firsthand that God has an endless supply. Now they live in His house not theirs – rice and beans may not seem like a meal fit for a king but it is nutritionally sound and they feed thousands daily. God Himself supplies that need – miraculously.

Many Christians want to see miracles, and here’s what I’ve learnt personally – start out by being a giver. God loves givers because giving is a reflection of His nature. Be someone who actively looks for ways to bless other people. It doesn’t have to be always about money, it can be time, or service, or words of encouragement. Just actively find ways to be a blessing. Meanwhile, a free bit of advice, take the time to choose your words carefully – we can all give people the benefit of the doubt when they do something dumb.

Last weekend our immediate family came around to our house to help hubby with the garden because at the moment, he only has one active hand – the other one is still in recovery mode. They worked like busy little bunnies making sure some very hard jobs were done. This is how you show other people that they matter, to God and you. Most people can say ‘I love you’ fairly easily – it’s doing ‘I love you’ that’s hard!

Everywhere we go, when we are on the road, people say to us: ‘We didn’t know God cared this much about us.’  Giving is His way to live this life we’ve been given. Unfortunately, dismissing other people’s needs, and their hopeless situations will harden our hearts. When that happens it get’s easy to think: ‘Someone else better equipped than I am will get that ‘- then you think: ‘I don’t have enough for my own needs’ … and then you think: … ‘well it’s really not my business anyway – those people should live more carefully.’ Aren’t there agencies to help them or something? Then finally you think: “I have my own family to look after.” Tada! One hard heart coming up.

None of those excuses are illegitimate by themselves, but they are what I called them …excuses. Ask yourself, why do I have to make excuses about stuff like that?  Who do I really trust when it comes to money?  God, or my own ability to earn or save. Jesus reminded us that our Heavenly Father feeds the birds. Here is my final thought: the poor do not want our mangey old cast-offs anymore than we do! Please be a generous giver. Bless people. I promise you, it’s all over the bible. 👋🏻
