P 2586 Stars and grains.

Genesis 15:4-6 “Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness.”

Genesis 22:17: ”I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,…”

If I were to give this blog an alternative title I would call it — “Dust off your prayers, hopes and dreams … and start thanking Me.”

We have all been through some incredibly hard times spiritually speaking, and not just recently — some of us have been stuck in hardship for a prolonged period of time. The Lord spoke the above word to me last Sunday, and I’m sitting here at 2.30 AM today, typing this because He told me to do it. You may be on the other side of the world to where I live, it makes no difference. The above verses from Genesis show us that God always has plans bigger than we can imagine. We all know, from experience, that His ways are past finding out – but we will see Him working with our own eyes – start looking.

When we pray, we often think about a truckload of blessings, but in these passages from Genesis the Lord shows us a SKY full of them. Abraham had his mind blown twice, and I sincerely believe we are about to see the Lord do what seems to be the impossible, again. Our part is to watch and give thanks, knowing only HE can do these things – we can’t.

There are relationships and the enmities between people that seem hopeless and broken, and I believe that they will start to turn and mend. Thank Him for every single one you hear about, whether it is at your house or somewhere else. The financial situations that seem doomed to worsen will see a trickle of help turn into a stream … People are going to listen and be touched by Him when you share His love and tell them about the Jesus you know, personally and intimately.

I want to be clear, I am not talking about some huge explosive revival, I am talking about a groundswell that starts small and builds over time. Breakthroughs are upon us, and our job is to thank Him for every single little tiny change and keep on thanking Him. Our God loves a grateful people so we need to be alert and thank Him, for everything no matter how small it seems. We need to thank Him for Who He is and what He is doing.  We need to stay alert and pray we will be awake and aware to see every little detail coming to pass. He’s looking for a groundswell of thanksgiving … even for the tiniest things, that seem almost insignificant.

Now, more than ever, we are to be grateful to be one of those tiny little grains of sand – one of those billions of unnamed stars. These are the days of the nobodies and God has been waiting for you and I to step up to the plate. We don’t have to be perfect, or gifted, JUST WILLING. The big rock stars of baseball or cricket have come and gone, and it’s just us now, the tail end … the guys who are lucky if they can see the ball, let alone hit it!

We may well be a people with not a lot of talent, but we know that Jesus is so big, He can break 5 loaves and 2 fishes and feed thousands. He can multiply anything. He has been breaking our lives and our hearts so He can begin this multiplication process. Give the mess that is in your little life to Him and start thanking Him for every detail that changes, no matter how small.

God spoke to Abraham and He told him that WE, you and I, are the answer to his prayers for a child. And no I have not lost my tiny mind! He told that man that His descendants would be like the stars in the sky …and Abraham did something amazing, he believed God. Something spiritually is turning that will not turn back again and we need to be alert and thank Him for everything He is doing. Every bit of hopeful news, every smile from someone who has forgotten how to smile. Every teeny tiny prayer that seemed to fall to the ground dead, is going to be resurrected. Watch and see what He will do with your little life.

Jesus broke bread the night before He was betrayed and gave thanks. We are that bread and He has been breaking us. As a result now we know that we cannot do anything without Him, and we’ve learnt, from experience, that we don’t want to, either. Now we can watch as He takes the broken crumbs of our lives and feeds the people around us. Just keep thanking Him for every single detail you see that changes. No matter how small –  we are going to start looking for the good. Stars that are without number … fill the sky. Grains of sand that cannot be counted make up the seashore.

We are the nameless, faceless ones, who only care that people remember HIS NAME, not ours. Bless you. 🙌 👋

P 2513 Jesus is the very best Prince – EVER.

When I was a little girl, I loved fairy-tales. Mainly because my home life was pretty real and raw, so I hid my nose in the Blue book of Fairies – and others like it. And BTW, Grimm’s fairy tales were actually, really GRIM! Even as I was growing up I held fast to the idea that some day my prince would come. Well, he did! A-n-d … that’s when I found out that childhood dreams are destined to crash and burn. Sigh.

However I also learnt, sometimes the hard way, that JESUS Christ is the authentic PRINCE, He’s the Prince of peace … and that has never changed.  Even now, I can sincerely say the very best thing I ever did with my life wasn’t having children, or getting married, or having a good job, or a nice home – the very best thing IS, and always will be giving my life to HIM. I wish I had known about Him sooner because I would have followed Him earlier!

In the beginning of my relationship with the Lord, He and I were going to change the world! I was convinced that when I told people that He is real … they would instantly believe me, because of my sincerity and passion. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely still got all that passion. But now, wisdom and years and years of living this new life, have shaped me into someone with more understanding than I had – to start with I stopped believing in fairy-tales a long time ago.

I met the Lord when I was in my twenties. At that stage, I had 2 little ones under 2, both of them in cloth nappies at once and I was permanently tired. Then we added another one 3 years later!  We didn’t have those nifty disposable nappies back in the ark. Which means that I didn’t technically add to the mountain of rubbish we are trying to shove under the grass all over the planet!!  Hmmm … the real truth is, we didn’t have disposable nappies back then …but — I’m pretty sure that if we had had them, I would have used them!!  I’m not stupid.

Chasing 3 kids under 5 kept me pretty busy in those days. I didn’t have a car or drive. So we walked – everywhere. In the rain, in the cold, in the heat. We walked 1.5 kms to the shops, and we stopped and looked at nature along the way. Actually I think I used those nature pauses to just plain rest! It was a pretty BIG hill, especially when you were pushing a heavy stroller UP it to do the weekly shopping. That stroller looked like a Christmas tree on the way home, with shopping bags hanging everywhere.

I think I spent a lot of time as a young mother being terrified something awful was going to happen to the kids or I would ruin their lives. I’ve always felt inadequate for the task of raising children …but then the Lord saved me and that meant, at that time, that I had even more pressure on me to get it right. PS… of course I didn’t! If you are raising kids right now, reading this, God’s got you – He’s been raising kids for thousands of years.  Almighty God Himself grew the lovely adults and parents my kids have all become.

On a further fun note …. about growing older  … without your permission! I’ve found that life has presented me with interesting challenges. There is a world of adjustment to face as bits of you start to wear out. Yes, yes, I know you saw someone on TV the other day, who inspired you to believe (falsely), that old age is going to be as good as you want it to be – just keep fit and use this face creme. Maybe you saw some old guy or gal with a face that has been reshaped so many times, it now looks like it has been ironed.

Yet these old/young codgers are still able to cheerfully hang upside-down from the roof like a bat, or they are doing 50 one-armed push-ups every day. Don’t you believe it – they are selling something! Meanwhile, I couldn’t even do that stuff when I was young! Fat chance now! It’s all a big lie you know! The bible says Moses was 80 and his eyesight was fine and so was his hearing – so that wasn’t common – that’s why those words are in there!

However, now the Lord and I have found a new way for me to live. Quietly. You won’t see me roaring around the suburbs at 3.00am doing donuts in the car park! The truth is, I have never done that in my life! But nowadays, I’ll be pushing up Zzzzzs in bed, groaning as I roll over. 😴 But you know what? The older I get the more grateful I am for SomeOne Who doesn’t see me as an old crock, He sees me the same way He has always seen me … I simply belong to Him. And that means even more to me now, than it did in the beginning.

After Jesus came into my life, I had SomeOne Who loved me so much, and my great joy is that He is so much wiser than I am. He is always more than happy to help me. The reason I gave this blog this title today is:  despite my childish wishes, blunders, and all my sins – both wilful and accidental, my Lord has never ever changed. But because of Him, everything about me has changed. One day my Prince DID come – His Name is Jesus! 👋🏻

“And His Name shall be called … Prince of peace, …” Isaiah 9:6

P 2462 Get rid of the stuff that is holding you back.

1 Peter 2:1 “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” First of all, when I find a “therefore” I want to know what it is there, for! That means I went back and read 1 Peter 1. Therefore means in the light of what was said before it. When I did that I found a pearl… without even trying. 1 Peter 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.”

You know, a lot of people regard the opening and closing remarks of books in the bible as irrelevant, or advertising, or quite simply, polite contextual greetings. They are not. God can use the writer’s opening and closing remarks. This is a letter, but it is not like our letters. Every word in God’s book is profitable.

Briefly, lets’ go back to our ‘living hope’ … our hope is not in what we think we believe. And that’s because people can believe the dumbest things!! Our actual firm hope is in the fact that Jesus Christ died and was raised from the dead and He now sits at the Father’s right hand.  HE is our hope. Who He is and what He did. Everything else is spiritual fluff! (And no, I am not splitting hairs – hope belongs to something concrete, it is not a theoretical thing.)

The reason our hope sometimes dies very quickly is that we are hoping in the wrong direction. EG  … our hope is in answers to prayer! Hope cannot diminish when it is in the right place. I urge us all to put our hope in reality, not in wish thinking, or prayers, no matter how nicely we phrase them. What Jesus Christ did for us is proof that He can be trusted. So we actually put our hope in His trustworthiness and not in some pretty or earnest prayer! Jesus Christ really is Almighty God. He really came here, and He really loved humanity, and He really actually died and was raised from the dead! Hope in that. Base your hope on WHO He is and what He did. That will change the way you pray and help you to trust Him. BTW, this is why we pray in Jesus’ Name. Because HE is our hope.

Now let’s go back to 1 Peter 2:1 ’Rid yourself of all envy and malice …’Why does Peter say that? Because envy and malice block our eyes and ears to what God is actually saying and doing. We stop seeing and hearing spiritually, and make our choices from the wrong place … the flesh! We cry: “I desperately need You to fix this Lord,” but we don’t and sometimes won’t, fix our own attitudes. When we entertain malice, envy, hypocrisy, and deceit etc. we become defensive and offensive, instead of loving, patient and kind.

What we soak our minds in actually affects our attitudes and behaviour, and I am not talking about TV shows! Mulling over someone else’s sin against you is not profitable. Nothing is gained that way except more angst. Instead we need to identify if we have envy etc.etc in the way we think, and repent, then refuse to think like that. Seriously… we are the boss of our own thoughts! Don’t entertain them. Some people ask that junk in, tell it to put its feet up on a comfy chair, go and get it a cuppa, and then they wonder why they can’t shift the thoughts! Our minds are constantly at war – it is not safe to entertain rubbish. Here’s a dumb thought – offence will fence you in.

If a thought comes into my head, that does not mean I need to give it a party! I can refuse the thought. And I can keep on refusing it until it leaves. Personally, I do my best to look carefully at my thought patterns because I want to watch over my own heart. I am not obsessive about it, but I listen to what I am thinking because:“as a man thinks …so is he …” (Proverbs 23:7) And some of my errant thoughts deserve jail, not entertaining!  However, Paul says in Philippians 4:8 to “let your mind dwell on these things. Whatever is right … whatever is profitable…”  Live there! Start looking for the good profitable parts, even in bad things. Bad things awaken urgency within us to get closer to God. And that’s a good thing to start with! Then start being grateful.

I hold my thoughts up against the Word of God and if my thoughts are wrong I chuck them out. Bad things start festering when we ignore the fact that we are mentally chewing on unhappy relationships and difficult people. It is our part in this eternal arrangement we are in, to get rid of the stuff that is holding us away from our true inheritance. 1 Peter 2:1 tells us that. And most of the bad stuff starts out as thoughts. Try monitoring your thoughts sometime, it will surprise you. 👋🏻

P 2437 Kindness without measure …

“God’s love is meteoric, His loyalty astronomic. His purpose titanic, His verdicts oceanic. Yet in His largeness nothing gets lost;  Not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks.” Psalm 36:5-6(MSG) Why on earth would anyone follow someone else? I mean seriously! Our God’s love is bigger than anything we can imagine or think. He is out-of-this-world loyal to every single human being, and none of us will ever earn it or deserve it. His purposes and loving kindnesses are so huge and comprehensive that they are beyond all our imaginings, and our wildest dreams.

And … He never ever loses sight of even one of us, every minute of every day, all day, every day. Our Father even knows when an ordinary little bird falls to the ground! All this is because Jesus Christ came here in human flesh and lived among us. Now human beings cannot say that Almighty God does not understand humanity. He understands from within what happens when we are happy, sad, embarrassed, hurt, crushed or we feel humiliated or can’t cope … and He does all that, even better than we can, imagine that! SomeBody Who knows you better than you know yourself.

In my lifetime I have had several occasions to look at the things I’ve said, or done, and wonder: “Where the heck did that awful stuff come from?”  Yet Father God knew those things were in there, inside my heart, long before I found out. He never excuses my sin – the precious blood of Jesus covers me. We are all naked before Him without any excuse, and He took the most precious Person He has, and covered all of us. Father God does not wink at any sin … He doesn’t have too, He legally and legitimateIy took care of it. Personally, I am so greatly impacted by His incredible kindness toward me, because I know it is so totally undeserved.

In my lifetime so far, I have been appalling to other people. When situations pressed me hard, what was hidden inside came outside! Despite knowing Jesus and doing and saying all the right things for years – those things did not comfort me when I was so incredibly sick I might die. Instead I was angry, because this life hadn’t given me an opportunity to feel loved, fulfilled, or happy. Under that overwhelming, internal pressure, things like hatred, disgust, rage and indifference to other people’s pain came out of me so strongly it scared me. That’s when I knew, that I knew, that I KNEW … that I do absolutely really need a Saviour. I looked hard at myself and I didn’t like what I saw. And I had been saved for years. God was good to me – He showed me my real self.

But I also saw, in a fresh way, that our God is incredibly loyal to us. The bible is filled with real-life stories about people who severely tested His loyalty  – in the Old Testament and the New. But He consistently and constantly extended Grace to them, He allowed them to learn. Those few verses in Psalm 36 above remind us that He is not just a kindly old man in the sky, who remembers us at Christmas and maybe on our birthday … Or even SomeOne Who only loves us when we do well. No! Now I know in person: “The Lord is on my side, I will not fear. What can man do to me?”Psalm 118:6.

Listen to this verse, it will blow your mind: “But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him’ – these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God” (1 Cor. 2:9 NRSV). Thank you Lord for the Holy Spirit.  Without His Presence with us, and within us, as He opens our eyes and ears to God’s endless possibilities … we might faint, or fail along the way. I very nearly did, but He caught me. And in time He stood me up again on my wobbly legs and taught me how to walk with Him in Spirit and truth. Not just lip-service and angst and entitlement. You know, when you think you are already a pretty nice person – Grace and Mercy do not mean so much to you.

BUT the bible says: “God sheer mercy and grace:  not easily angered,He’s rich in Love.”  Psalm 103:8. WOW!  Again, Almighty God’s never ending love is our personal proof that love overcomes everything else. Because of my own experiences, I do not understand why Christians don’t cherish mercy and grace more. After all, most people want it for themselves when they know they are doing something awful — but I just don’t get why we don’t readily give His mercy and grace away to other people. Christian or not. It seems we’d rather hang onto the bad things … more. satan sure does mess with our minds.

Here’s a news flash for anyone reading this blog today — and this means you! HUMANITY DOES NOT DESERVE MERCY AND GRACE …no matter how nice we think we are!! Like EVER. Oh, but there is a fountain, that bubbles and bursts with Jesus’ life that constantly flows over us … That fountain of life, grace and mercy cost Father God everything He held dear. But in His heart He gained so much more, you and I. Speaking for myself, I know now, personally, that I am not worth it! But boy am I grateful. Bye. 🤗

P 2416 Mercy is a fountain.

“Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has shown us His extravagant mercy. For His fountain of mercy has given us a new life—we are reborn to experience a living, energetic hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3 TPT

In everything we do and say, we must never forget God’s mercy, because of what Jesus Christ did for us. This mercy is not a small pool of water – it is not even a large body of water like the pool at Siloam – it is a fountain. A fountain has life in it. It is not static;  it flows, dances, bounces and beams light in every direction. A fountain is a symbol of His joy dancing over each one of us – all the time. We spend our lives in that fountain! Bathing in it, praising God for it, allowing God’s mercy to impact the way we think and act.

Our Heavenly Father’s mercy is like that. His mercy transforms everything it touches. We do not have to instruct people into the kingdom of God. We simply need to bring them into the proximity of that fountain. Our relationship with Him provides the proximity. So how do we do that? We extend mercy and grace to everyone – whether we like them or not! Then we stir up that fountain within us, and act on everything He says to do to keep it alive and bubbling.

This includes showing mercy to people who don’t deserve it. PS neither did we!  That fountain resides in us now, the minute we said yes to Him. Everything Jesus Christ did on our behalf contributes to that living fountain. We stepped under/into that fountain and it began to bubble and grow inside us. Christ’s mercy is always so incredibly extravagant beyond our wildest dreams, because that flow always exceeds our demand upon it. Why would we abuse such Grace?

Our God knows everything, but that is no threat to us. Not to His kids. It is a promise that the fountain of His life is more than adequate for everything that has happened to us in our lives so far … and it will carry us in its sweet waters right on to the end. The thing is – when we appreciate that fountain and the cost that was paid – we would not dream of skating on by doing the minimum we can, hoping we can somehow fool Him into thinking it is enough. We would never dare take advantage of such a glorious gift that was given so freely for all of us.

Christ is always our example, and the men and women who followed Him after His death and resurrection illustrate the sort of devotion we need to cultivate and protect in our ordinary everyday lives. It means whenever I talk to my neighbour, that mercy fountain within me reaches out to them, it embraces them. There is no pressure needed, because that fountain is so appealing, so incredible, so sweet, it draws everyone in. Are they grumpy neighbours? Then this fountain is more than adequate. Ask for His help! He made His help for us available through that fountain.

We have found as we talk to people all over this country that religion glazes their eyes and stops conversation. But mercy and grace opens unseen doors within them and you cannot shut them up. The person in front of us who seemed business-like and together, is suddenly transformed into a person with needs and hopes and dreams. They cannot believe that God is interested in them. They are drawn to His fountain – inside us  – they know they need Him. Both hubby and I would say we are totally inadequate to do this work, but daily He rises up within us, like a fountain springs into the air alive and working. He does whatever is needed!

Mercy and joy go together. They transform lives by their very presence in us and through us. We will get so blessed by blessing others! Believe me this world has nothing to offer that competes with the reality of seeing His Presence touch someone. His little hidden ones, out there in every nook and cranny of this grumpy old world, know His voice. They may not know His Name, but something inside of them knows His voice.

You and I carry that glorious wealth inside us everywhere we go. I exhort us all to bathe in that fountain, take it in with every single breath, and then allow it flow through us. Enjoy what Christ died to give us. Don’t spend so much time feeling guilty – use your time to be grateful.  Like Jesus said to His Father in the Lord’s prayer:“Manifest Your kingdom realm, and cause Your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 TPT.

“Use me Lord. Let your joy-mercy flow out of me.” Bye.👋🏻

P 2401 It’s good for us, but sometimes we fight against it.

“In this all-out match against sin, others have suffered far worse than you, to say nothing of what Jesus went through—all that bloodshed! So don’t feel sorry for yourselves. Or have you forgotten how good parents treat children, and that God regards you as His children? My dear child, don’t shrug off God’s discipline, but don’t be crushed by it either. It’s the child He loves that He disciplines; the child He embraces, He also corrects.God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children.

This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best. At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off big-time, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.” Hebrews 12:4-11 MSG

… So that thing we’ve learned to love/hate, isn’t actually … tying our shoes … it’s Father God’s discipline! This scripture in Hebrews is food for thought. I really like the way the Message bible puts it … it is so clear and comforting. These verses reinforce that the difficult stuff that happens to us isn’t punishment – it’s training. Ya might want to sit and think about that thing that has been driving you batty. Maybe you are not being persecuted or driven nuts by someone else. Maybe it is part of growing up in God!

I can still remember teaching my children when they were little how to tie their shoes, over and over again. I know, nobody does that anymore because we all live in the land of velcro! But back in the ark, it was expected that by the time your little darling landed in kindergarten – he or she would have learnt how to tie their own shoes … as well as take themselves to the toilet. Shoe tying tried my patience heaps.

You know, sometimes I wish I could go back to those days for a do-over? It is a real shame how much easier it is to develop patience, and long-suffering, when you aren’t under pressure to run out of the door and deliver three kids to kindy or school. Especially if you are on foot.  Maybe one of your kids is a Dilly Daydream with their nose in a book, and they wouldn’t hurry if they were chased by a shark!

As I’ve gotten older, patience has become a bit more accessible to me. I’m much slower now, so I have had to learn to be patient with myself! Back then? Not-so-much. Sigh. I can remember recently talking with my now grown-up son many years later, discussing parenting styles. He was being very kind to me considering how little I knew about what I was doing back then!

A-n-y-way, my son laughingly made this remark about a question I asked him when I was fed up and he was younger and being naughty. I used to say: “Do you want a smack??” His comment was: “Honestly Mum, can you imagine any sane kid saying yes to that question??”… “Oh, yes please, Mum I’d love one!?” 😂 I’m so blessed that we’ve been able to laugh over the some of the stupid stuff I did and said. He has kids of his own so now there’s a lot of understanding between us.

I just want to assure you if you have little kids at your house, hold on … they will grow like weeds and then one day sooner than you think, they will be gone. However, teaching them stuff they are going to need later on in life is extremely difficult, because not every kid is compliant … the little darlings. That means that parenting is not a whole lot of fun. Meanwhile, I am soooo totally over those ads with fake happy families in them. The idea that 4-5 people of various ages, are all outrageously happy at the same time, just because you fed them some fancy chicken, or pizza, is lunacy. Advertising is lying for profit!

Right now, I want to pause and just try to get my mind around how patient the Lord is with all of us. Some things in my life have come up over and over again, and I promise myself each time that I won’t do this or that … but then provocation happens, or it’s a bad day and I fail. I am so grateful to Him. I need to be reminded over and over again that the Holy Spirit is my teacher, and He is incredibly patient with me. He won’t withdraw His love and approval, ever.

Some days I just can’t seem to get my heart and mind around the fact that trouble in my life is not punishment.

The Holy Spirit will not fail any of us … because He cannot fail. I’m praying I will stop fighting against His wise counsel because I know His discipline is good for me. Bye … 👋🏻

P 2355 Meekness is not weakness.

I believe the body of Christ has yet to discover the true value of meekness. The One Who rules the world and also made it, was led away by wicked, jealous men and yet He said nothing. He also said nothing when they beat Him mercilessly, and shoved a cruel crown of thorns into His head. He even gave His hands to the men who nailed them to the cross. God’s will was more important to the Lord than His own, even when it involved torture.

These things are Christ’s life illustrations, they show us we need the Holy Spirit’s help all the time, because He knows the way through whatever this life throws at us. There will always be a temptation to retaliate strongly to injustice and cruelty. And … there are also times we respond passively, underhandedly, by trying to control things. That’s not meekness. A meek person accepts God’s will and His timing – no matter the personal cost.

The word MEEK means “quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on. It is a companion to submission and having a submissive heart.” Bad things are going to happen to all of us, we can’t avoid them, but to have a heart like Christ has, that means everything to a meek person. Bill Mounce, who is a biblical Greek expert, defines the Greek word praus – translated meek or gentle – as: “the positive moral quality of dealing with people in a kind manner, with humility and consideration.”

At the same time meekness doesn’t see someone else’s sins, mainly because it isn’t even looking for them! The whole purpose of this grace is to find out what the King wants, and do that! Anything else is white noise. A meek person will deal with themselves no matter what the other guy is up to, because they take what Jesus said personally, so they remain humble and always available for change.

Meekness starts and is perfected in our relationship with the Lord, first of all. Accepting His will for my life helps me accept whatever He does with yours. Our God totally believes in each one of us because He sees us one of us through the filter of the cross, but we must not abuse that filter for our own purposes. Instead a meek person is grateful – that Jesus would stoop so low to make us acceptable – that provokes submission, and service to others in them.

I decided that this would be a good time to say that meekness is a fruit of the Spirit!! In the bible in 1 Corinthians 13 it is called “long-suffering.” In today’s society meekness is the total opposite of what we are being taught is … our rights!!  We discard this particular Grace at our own peril.  When meekness is rejected as weakness people become narcissistic. They say thing like: “My rights and needs must be met so I will take them by force if necessary!” A person Who is meek is more likely to care about your rights than their own.

However meek people are not passive people, they have simply made a decision that walking with the Holy Spirit is more important than anything else – including their so-called rights. A submissive meek heart can be cultivated under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, leading and correction. “All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5.

There are times we can mistakenly think that those niggly little seemingly incidental, unimportant disobedient things we do, have gone away. But in reality they’ve actually turned us inch by inch away from the path He’s put in front of us UNTIL WE CAN NO LONGER SEE THAT PATH AT ALL. It is up to us to keep our relationship trimmed, full of oil and ready to ‘go” when the bridegroom calls for us. Meekness lies down that pathway of clarity, humility and obedience. Independence is a luxury we simply cannot afford. We need Him and we need each other.

Jesus Himself said – in the Beatitudes: Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Meek people have great faith. They believe that life can be changed by utterly surrendering to the King, because they have learnt there is NOTHING this King cannot do with totally submitted yielded vessels.  👋🏻

P 2210 Do this to remember Me.

We all know these verses and say them at communion. But there are times when I wonder if we understand what we are saying – maybe sometimes we say it without thought. I don’t think that eating and drinking communion regularly is the main thing in the Lord’s eyes – I think regularly and intentionally remembering Him and what He did for us, IS.

Yeah, I know a whole lotta people dun got mad at me for what I just said. In some denominations communion is an extremely important sacrament. I am not trying to diminish the importance of obeying what Jesus said … far from it. But the accent should be on the Lord, not the bread, biscuit, grape juice or wine. It’s the remembering that counts – not the vehicle we use to do it. I think communion is a cue. Listen to this in Youversion:

“Let me go over with you again exactly what goes on in the Lord’s Supper and why it is so centrally important. I received my instructions from the Master Himself and passed them on to you. The Master, Jesus, on the night of His betrayal, took bread. Having given thanks, He broke it and said, This is My body, broken for you. Do this to remember Me. After supper, He did the same thing with the cup: This cup is My blood, My new covenant with you. Each time you drink this cup, remember Me. What you must solemnly realize is that every time you eat this bread and every time you drink this cup, you reenact in your words and actions the death of the Master.” 1 Corinthians 11:25,26. Communion is to remind us – it is not the most important thing – what Jesus DID is the most important thing!

If you would like a more familiar version here’s the KJV:“After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till He come.” I’m a big fan of reading more than one version – it opens our eyes to more than the words. I think it can help explain the meaning more clearly. Jesus is telling us that we are to remember Him and what He did, when we break the bread and drink the wine in communion. The sacrament of communion is not the holy thing – remembering Him and what He did, is.

The Lord Jesus never took His spiritual eyes off His Father – He only did what He saw His Father doing. Communion is a way to keep what Jesus DID for us in front of our eyes. When His Presence, His will, His Ways are more important than our own, we will begin to live the same way He did… mindful of our Father’s wishes, as well as other people.

Reading the bible is another way to remember Him. I went to sleep last night chewing on a verse, because it seemed to me that I had not seen what He wanted me to see … yet … and I’m still chewing!  It is a fatal error to think we already know stuff because we can parrot off what the bible says. We will never really know everything this side of heaven – and I strongly suspect we won’t know everything when we get there either! Our God is beyond our comprehension! Meanwhile, there is so much more in the bible than we currently understand. We can’t study it out, we need to live in the Lord’s Presence to give us eyes and ears – we need His revelation.

Remembering Jesus is not like sending your Grandma a card for her birthday! Maybe you’ve written the date of her birthday onto a calendar, or put it in event’s calendar on your cell phone and it merrily chimes to remind you. That’s not remembering … that’s being reminded! Put the word remember into the present tense – in these verses remember is a NOW word, not a special occasional one. It is not about doing something to remind us, it is about living daily that way. The Lord Jesus’ idea of remembering is more focussed. He threw away His own agenda and focussed on His Father’s agenda instead.

Like Paul said: “…for me TO LIVE is CHRIST!” That kind of remembering is current and powerful. When we cultivate an awareness of His Presence, His word, His loving kindness and goodness will be a gold thread running right through the very centre of our lives, all day, every day – not just when we take communion. And I know I ain’t there yet! Lemme put this another way – people who are promiscuous forget they are married. They left their awareness of their marriage vows behind, to do something else. Jesus needs to be in the forefront of our minds, He is never a PS!

In conclusion, it is good to realise that we don’t have to remember Him – we want to remember Him and what He did for us. That sort of focus will keep us humble and grateful. Let’s not let this life’s pressures take our focus away from why we are still here .. to serve Him and worship Him for all He did for us. Remembering is a key to opening our hearts wider than before. 👋🏻
