P 3399 For parents of kids of any age.

Back when I was actively involved in mothering my kids, I noticed that doing bible studies, taking time to pray with them, plus other Christian activities, were all great – but the most powerful impact by far – came from displaying my OWN FAITH. They needed my faith to be worked out daily in front of them. I was their witness to Jesus, in good times and bad. It was not just what I said, or taught that mattered — my actions and reactions did. They were learning about Jesus as they watched me trust Him.

Our living faith needs to be visible to our children – otherwise it becomes yet another theory. If that is difficult and you are constantly wrestling with your faith, then let them see that. Let them see you turn to Him for His help. I learnt, that you can’t just teach your kids and expect that they will somehow ‘catch’ Christianity like a cold, or farm out your responsibility to a Christian group. You get to sow the seeds in their hearts.

If you want to raise them to believe in Christ and all He did for us, you will need to make a quality choice to demonstrate your faith in front of them – in good times and bad. Meanwhile being positive all the time, creates pressure on a child. They feel things very keenly, it is far better to be real. Saying: “I’m not coping with God’s answers right now,” sets the stage for them to still go to God when they are not coping too!

Today I want to share a testimony – I hope it illustrates my point about visible faith adequately.  When my three children were very young, they wanted a swimming pool, but we couldn’t afford it, and so the kids were greatly disappointed. They were just little kids, so they wanted one anyway. On one very hot summer’s day they came to me and presented their reasons for wanting a pool …their Dad was at work at that time … and I knew darn well it was going to be an uphill battle.

So that day, I tried to pass the buck off onto the Lord, and suggested that we all pray together and ask Jesus for a pool instead. Anybody can see I had a wonderful attitude about this. Not. It wasn’t a very long prayer, and then I sent them off to have fun under the sprinkler. Later … that very same afternoon … my sister-in-law rang me. “We have something we want to pass on to your family,” she said – “It’s a pool!” We have just built an in-ground pool at our house, and we no longer need our above-ground pool anymore.” I nearly fell over. I mean, I couldn’t believe it! That instant answer to prayer floored me.

Then she uttered the magic words; … “Of course the kids’ uncle will come and install it properly, no charge at all.” My brother-in-law installed pools professionally!! Wow!  I told her, I would call back after I had talked to her brother. He said; “OK. ” All we needed to do was buy some sand and chlorinate it. My brother-in-law worked so carefully to install that pool, the guy was a master at what he did. The kids kept running in and out watching him, they were so excited. A week later they were swimming in it, and it had been  installed professionally!

Jesus cares about childish faith. All the teaching in the world can’t give your child your faith. But you can help them to grow their own, by inviting them to pray with you, and then leaving the results with Him. The Lord is so kind, He lives way above our human limitations and restrictions, He simply doesn’t see them. Meanwhile my kids all knew that pool came from God Himself!

I exhort you, please don’t let your own fears, spiritual struggles or concerns stop you from visibly using your faith to encourage your children. Teach them there are times God says no – but because He is God, and He knows everything — He will have a reason for it. Many times since then my kids and I have had to pray for something they desperately needed, and the Lord kindly provided for them. I want to testify that those things stick with them..

Let’s quickly look at the prodigal son in Luke 11. This young man remembered what he had already seen in his own home years ago …. “When he came to his senses, …” He remembered what he had seen his earthly father do, and it prompted him to take a chance and go home!

My adult kids have their own living faith now. It is expressed differently than mine, but they have fought through their own disappointments and troubles to a better place, and  strengthened their own faith as they learnt to walk with Him themselves. Faith can create memories, just like it did for the prodigal son. David did that too – when he ran at Goliath, he had the memory of God helping him to kill a lion and a bear.

The Holy Spirit will help our families remember what they have seen Him do, right at the moment when they need it, and that’s for kids of any age. Bye.👋

P 3398 Faith has one primary purpose.

“If you want to be made right with God by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from the revelation of grace! But we have the true hope that comes from being made right with God, and by the Spirit we wait eagerly for this hope. When you’re joined to the Anointed One, circumcision and religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is living in the faith that works and expresses itself through love!” Galatians 5:4-6 TPT.

You know I’ve done enough stupid stuff in my life to know that positive talk won’t help me to use my faith and love others. Mainly because whatever you talk yourself into, you can talk yourself OUT OF! Plus satan would be de-light-ed to help me to go the wrong way. Even other people’s reassurances won’t help when my focus goes off – ‘whatever the Lord is doing,’ and lands on ‘what’s in it for me?’

Yesterday I looked at David and his faith-filled interactions with the Lord. No matter what happened in his life, David’s heart stayed right with God – even when he was corrected. You and I are blessed to be able to live that way too, because of Jesus and what He did. So this morning, hubby and I were talking about how much we need to be reminded that God doesn’t love us for what we do or don’t do – He loves us because Love is Who He is. Now we always have a choice in the arena of faith. Do we believe Him or not? Will we let Him make ‘love’ who we are?

If we don’t make that choice to deliberately keep aware of His Grace, we can become so focussed on serving the Lord, and making sure we do everything right – that we forget to enjoy every single day what we have been given. When we live with rules and judgment over ourselves, we are much more likely to give that junk away to someone else: Peter made that clear when he said: “…such as I have give I thee!” Acts 3:6.

His focus in the above scripture, was spot on. He honed in on being a benefit to those around him, not the law. So giving away what he had, meant that he lived aware that he had fresh clean water bubbling up inside him. His faith was always active. I want that, and I’m pretty sure you do too – that’s why we are all taking this journey together. When our focus is on right and wrong, eventually, we will start focussing on, and judging ourselves, and others.

This wrong kind of perspective can distract anyone from the revelation we’ve been given about God’s Grace and what He has done for us. Jesus did not only come to save us from our big or little sins – He came to save and restore our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Sin is the lesser thing, the Lord Jesus’ primary focus is always on redemption and restoration and His love being shed abroad in our hearts – by FAITH. We receive love by faith, and we give it away … using our faith.

When we read the gospels, it is clear Jesus wants us to know what His Father likes and wants from us. And self-recrimination and condemnation of others is not on that list. Micah 6:8 tells us that God has shown us what is good. “He has shown you, O man, what is good;  And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”

Adam and Eve lost their fellowship with God; but Jesus, the second Adam, is the Founder of a whole new spiritually-aware kind of people. He came to restore us and exponentially increase our faith, love and fellowship with our Heavenly Father, so that we could begin to know the kind of Oneness that the Trinity enjoys. We cannot have that when we have enmity with one another. Our focus will go off faith and fellowship and love, over onto finding fault with others.

That’s when we decide to protect ME at someone else’s cost. Maybe we don’t like these people because they do this and that, or we don’t like this member of our family because they did so and so. You know, loving people doesn’t have to mean we give them permission to mistreat us, or that we approve of the way they treat others. Loving them means that we use our faith, put them into God’s hands, and live the way He says.

We can’t afford to embrace the idea that everyone thinking the same way is the criteria for restoration. It isn’t! It can’t be! We don’t all think the same way! Almighty God Himself has to be the One Who unites us.  However, His love is a universal language, and expressing that love, using our faith, as He leads us, can take away barriers. That’s what God’s love given freely to all of us undeserving sinners did! It took away all barriers. We can now enjoy Who He is, and He can expand our viewpoints over and above our prejudices – so that our prejudices… fade … away.

If someone is in error, then we need to remind them from God’s Word what His way looks like. If necessary then we will engage the church leadership in this process. Withdrawing love cannot be the way forward. As we co-operate with the Holy Spirit, and let Him love people through us, we will learn to release our faith as we choose to live in love. Meanwhile Galatians 5:6 says: “And we to whom Christ has given eternal life don’t need to worry about whether we have been circumcised or not, or whether we are obeying the Jewish ceremonies or not; for all we need is faith working through love.”

The law can’t produce what faith does, in our own lives or in the lives of others. Faith has one primary purpose – to activate our lives with love. Bless you 👋.

P 3397 God is our place of safety and shelter.

“Keep me safe, O mighty God. I run to You, my safe place. I said to Yahweh, “You are my Maker and my Master. Any good thing You find in me has come from You.” And He said to me, “My holy lovers in the land are My glorious ones, who fulfil all My desires.” … …The way You counsel me makes me praise You more, for Your whispers in the night give me wisdom, showing me what to do next. Because I set You, Yahweh, always close to me, my confidence will never be weakened, for I experience Your wraparound Presence every moment.” Psalms 16:1-3, 7-8 TPT.

Isn’t this fantastic? I must have read it about ten times. I think because of the pressures we all face daily, it can get very hard to hold onto how loving, generous, good and gracious the Lord is. These verses, by the way, come from David talking to God, after he became an adult. This is not that teenager on the side of the hill watching sheep — this is the man who faced many struggles. I often need to read and reread in the bible the history of other people and their interactions with God. There are people in there who have faced all kinds of terrible trials – yet they chose to have a heart of worship and praise.

Let’s look at the beginning of David’s relationship with the Lord: “And when He had removed him (Saul), he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also He gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will.” This is reported in Acts 13:21,22, by Paul.  The Psalm and this testimony are referring to a time in David’s life when he was already king. I don’t know if you ever have these thoughts but when I read those two passages, they blew my mind. Almighty God is telling us — this man, this king … this fallible human being who stole another man’s wife, got her pregnant, and then had her husband killed! … is a man after God’s own heart? It makes me ask: “what was it about David, that brought out that response from God Himself?”

I prayed about why the Lord said this to David, and then I went back to the bible for an answer because I didn’t have one! My revelation for today, was that our Heavenly Father’s heart must be very different from the kind of heart I often see displayed in our churches. We don’t seem to have the same way of looking at things – at all. Father God told David he would pay for his sin, and the baby died. He also had a terrible time with his other sons, who died too. But what I came to understand is that those things did not change David’s heart of praise and worship. I think  he had such confidence in His Heavenly Father’s Love, goodness and faithfulness as well as the Lord’s forgiving nature.

We know from the scriptures that David praised God purely because He is worthy, not because life always worked out well for him. He had the absolute assurance that when God forgives – no matter what it is, you will be forgiven. And that is that. Done and dusted. This king accepted the punishment that God thought was necessary, and at the same time, the Lord kept His good opinion of this man, as we read in Acts 13. His choice to believe in God’s goodness is such a witness. Sad to say, I’m not so sure Christians feel that way about someone who has sinned badly. We are more likely to judge the behaviour, and not the man’s heart. We need to pray over and over again for eyes to see what our Father sees.

The following verse tells us clearly that God chose David because of his heart:  “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” This statement occurs before David ever sinned, when he was still a young man. My conclusion is this, our hearts deeply matter to the Lord. Without His influence, we can mistakenly accentuate our sins and shortcomings, and ignore the fact that the Lord says clearly that He loved David’s heart. Let’s ask for protection over our hearts to keep them from being broken by satan’s lies.

I think David is in the bible to teach us what a yielded heart looks like. Because of him, we can see that hearts make mistakes and have to undergo correction, but God’s opinion of this man did not change, because His behaviour was never going to be the criteria! A Saviour was coming … The One Who was sent here to take away the sins of the whole world — and that included David’s sins too. Sin is our enemy, but unconfessed, cultivated and a lack of repentance from sins can slowly drag us away from the only One Who is the Answer. So will fear of recrimination from God Himself.

My conclusion is this: Our heavenly Father uses flawed instruments to bring about His will and good pleasure, because His criteria is not what we often think it is. “Let Him who boasts, boast in the Lord!” His ways are very different from ours. We think pleasing God is simply about behaviour, but Father God is more concerned with the state of our hearts. I’ve added this today because it is such a good prayer:

“Lord, you’re so kind and tenderhearted and so patient with people who fail You! Your love is like a flooding river overflowing its banks with kindness. You don’t look at us only to find our faults, just so that You can hold a grudge against us.” Psalms 103:8-9 TPT. Thank you Lord and Amen! Bye. 👋. PS Good thing to remember, God doesn’t just extend mercy to us, He extends mercy to our enemies too.

P 3396 Don’t be scared of their faces!

Well, here we are again, at 4.00am, in the middle of a tiny town in New South Wales. It’s freezing – but some of you out there know a lot more about freezing than we do! Hmmm… I married the most wonderful man nearly 39 years ago, as I am typing this he is getting me a cup of tea. Most men would be thinking about justifiable homicide, and mumbling about strange women with even stranger habits, and yet he’s helping me! He has just set me up with my computer and about 200 pillows, so I can type.

Inspiration sometimes hits me around 3-4am — when anybody with a lick of sense would be sleeping… Except this bed is harder than a rock, plus the fan that I need to have – rain, hail, heat wave or snow – it keeps my face temperature down … but the rest of me feels like an icicle. The strangest bits of you wear out when you get older! One side of my face gets hotter than a furnace and bright red, the other side is normal. Go figure …

Today I wanted to write about a common problem anyone can have when it comes to talking to strangers about Jesus. First of all, it can be very daunting , especially if you have an agenda. That means instead of being relaxed and smiling, every bit of you is tensed, even your hair follicles, because you are waiting… waiting … for an opportunity to somehow insert your faith into the conversation. It becomes a huge strain that shows on your face and in your attitude… you just gotta witness. Cue the gritted teeth. DON’T DO IT. Seriously! Love people and see what comes next. That’s what we do.

There was one place we stayed in where everything about that place said: “How dare you two come here! Go home immediately.” Grumpy people kept popping up like burrs in the lawn. And then we saw these two fierce looking cleaners, who were about 18 years old, and they were totally covered in tattoos and spikes. Even their hair was spiked – as well as bright pink! They seemed madder than a starving Rottweiler.

And here comes hubby, limping along, because he has a sore foot, and he’s carrying two blocks of chocolate. He simply told them they were doing a great job and he wanted to thank them. They melted like snow in the tropics. Suddenly, despite their outward appearance, they were two ordinary young women who were highly delighted to have someone notice their efforts. And all it took to tell them about Jesus was two blocks of chocolate!

Yesterday when we arrived where we stayed overnight, everything was upside down. The hosts weren’t quite ready, we were tired, which set everyone’s teeth on edge – so we prayed for His Grace and then behaved like we already had it. (That’s called faith.) And the mood began to change. Hubby gave away three bookmarks. And a grown women, a teenager, and a five year old were our new best friends. The littlest one was even more delighted when hubby gave her two books about Jesus. This morning at around 3.00am I suddenly realised how privileged we are. That little one heard about Jesus for the first time in her life, and He was there to hear and see her happy pleasure.

We go to quite a few places, and we sometimes find a certain version of the King James Bible has been lovingly donated. What a ministry that is! Praise God for their faithfulness … I do, however, have a few problems with it. The language. Most people do not speak King James English anymore. Plus it is a big fat thick book, and wherever it turns up, it looks like nobody else has ever even opened it, let alone read it! Wherever we go, if I see a KJB I always put a pass-it-on card inside. Sometimes desperate people will read that bible, because they need someone to care about their life… “Does God care about me?” Like Paul … I’d rather speak two words that can be understood, than a whole book full of ??? what on earth does that mean??

I remember when I first came to know the Lord, I was astonished to find out that Christianity had its own music. I had only ever listened to the radio and I had never heard anything even remotely like it. I’ve been in love with Christian music ever since. Now I send people clips from Youtube. I once played my mother a DVD I had made of beautiful scenery from a trip we had just taken. She didn’t even look at the pictures – she was totally entranced by the music! Of course, I immediately got miffed about that and had to repent on the spot. We sometimes blame the devil for our own inadequacies. Ho-hum.

Not so long ago, we gave one of our coffee table books of Psalms to a young woman of another faith. She didn’t even see the pictures, she was captivated by the words. Let me tell you anybody can be a seed sower. You just gather seed and chuck it everywhere. When you do that, led by Love Himself, all kinds of sweet things happen. Here’s what Jesus thinks about it: “He (Jesus) turned to His disciples and said, The harvest is huge and ripe. But there are not enough harvesters to bring it all in. As you go plead with the Owner of the harvest to thrust out many more reapers to harvest His grain.” Matthew 9:37-38.

Dear Lord we need more feet on the ground, thank You! Amen! Did you notice that I am not worried about seed? I’ve been praying for artists, and song writers, and wordsmiths, to paint, sing and say stuff, in plain English, that can be freely given away. One lady we know makes beautiful handbags for abused women. Ask Him for inspiration. Share what you love to do – do it and include others. I used to share my roller skating time when I was younger. Last of all don’t be afraid of their faces, there are real needs behind those grumpy looks. Bye. 👋.

P 3395 He is faithful.

“For we have already experienced “heart-circumcision,” and we worship God in the power and freedom of the Holy Spirit, not in laws and religious duties. We are those who boast in what Jesus Christ has done, and not in what we can accomplish in our own strength.” Philippians 3:3 TPT.

We need to learn to use our faith in His goodness, no matter what is going on around us. Heart circumcision occurs when we allow the Holy Spirit to cut away all those things that will make us stumble, lose faith, become discouraged, or forget what Jesus died to give us. We are exhorted to worship God in the Holy Spirit’s power and the freedom we have already been given. We can stay in our old-life chains by choice, but those chains cannot actually bind us anymore! We must push against them using our faith. What binds us is our perception. It simply feels like we can’t do it. Remember satan always wants to illegally imprison us.

It is always our choice to totally rely upon what the Lord Jesus said and did – despite the hard things we will face as we choose to live that way. Like a butterfly struggles to be free of its cocoon, you and I need to struggle against those whispers that run about our brain telling us ‘following Jesus is futile … it’s all too hard.’ All that ghastly stuff our enemy whispers to us in our darkest moments. Even our day-to-day circumstances can seem to conspire against us.  Like Paul said very succinctly in 2 Corinthians 4:8-10.

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.”

What does this faith walk look like in real life? It looks like these verses describe — daily death to self, and complete surrender. We will have times of despair when we stretch and use our faith to live for Him. It is normal! Jesus suffered that way too. And living a life of love in this unloving world can be hard. But because we don’t just want to pay lip-service to God, then we must, with His help … conquer those things in our lives that want to cloud our view of Him and His will.

Overcoming is not just about standing somewhere, looking victorious, with our flag lifted high, and light flashing off us everywhere!  It’s far more about that person who is bloodied and bruised and on their knees, weeping before their King. You can tell a seasoned saint, their love is more than skin deep. You and I may not always initially conquer stuff – but now we know where to go! This means we will fight our own thoughts, other people’s comments, our old tendency to sin, and circumstances. Plus other people’s sins against us.

As I have said before, God’s timetable and ours may not be the same, but the secret is to not quit, just because His ways are far above ours. His plans are already in place. When we defer to Him, we will be blessed to see Him do what He loves best – loving on people and setting them free. That includes US! Let’s remember what the bible says – first, last and always. The Holy Spirit’s goal is the total transformation of our hearts, souls, minds and bodies, so we can be in this world like He was.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2. Amen!

The reality is, our faith in His goodness will be stretched. Faith needs to be exercised, but just like physical exercise, it ain’t always fun! We can’t afford to skip reading the bible, praying, or living this life with Him centred in our thoughts. Our aim is to do what He says, so we purpose in our hearts to know and trust Him, no matter how things look. That is the place we choose to stand. And if I flop over, or you flop over in despair occasionally, there will be no judgment. We may have to wait to see what He will do, but in reality, our opinions aren’t worth a bean, be-cau-se … He always has a far better plan than we can imagine.

There can be times when we can’t find the Lord, or hear Him well enough to follow Him, and that is simply because our souls aren’t prospering. This has nothing whatsoever to do with how we feel, even though our feelings may be jumping up and down and shouting at us. Instead it has everything to do with Who and what we are looking at. We’ve been told to fix our eyes on Jesus – He’s the Author and Finisher of our faith. Disappointed eyes see so much less than faith-filled eyes can see. We are to live this life, cherishing His character and what He has done, and we refuse to budge.

Total commitment is essential to survival. Almighty God is not SomeOne Who serves us – it is the other way around – we serve Him. Our Christian walk is all about faith because: “…without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6. Remember Peter was looking at Jesus as he walked on the water, then he looked at his circumstances – and his faith fell over and his body started to sink.

In the darkest of times we must “hold fast to what …(we know) …is good …” 1 Thessalonians 5:21. GOD IS GOOD, hold onto Him!  With all my heart I believe that there is true spiritual breakthrough in front of each and everyone of the members of His body. Let’s practice using our faith no matter what is going on around us. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for ”HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL.” Hebrews 10:23. Bye 🙏.

P 3393 And a-w-a-y we will go… … again.

Very early this Sunday morning, we shall pack the last few items into our car and set off again. The Lord has asked us to go and take more bibles etc., blankets and toiletries to two separate hubs out in the country, because the weather has been so very cold and the people out there need to know SomeOne wonderful cares for them. Jesus, of course.

As we travel, we often also find ourselves comforting the people who help those who are down and out. The government workers suffer because there are far too many people and not enough funds. Plus as we go, we pray for and help those whose lives have taken a terrible turn and they are now on the streets, or hiding from brutality, grief, and chaos. They are the homeless and defenceless.

The news has finally begun reporting on the crisis our farming communities are currently facing. Many families on the land rent their properties and their rent has gone up too. And some, who have a mortgage, are now facing those awful rising interest rates. Sadly, the oil crisis has caused the prices of fertiliser, feed, seed and spray to rise. 64.1% of farmers have been heavily impacted by rising transportation costs.

Australia runs well because of our truck drivers, but it is a hard life, driving vast distances, and the roads are often not good out in the bush. All these people need our prayers, plus any emotional, practical, and financial help we can give them. When we act like they don’t matter, we are biting the hand that feeds us. They provide our food!  Let’s do more than think about that.

Here’s some info -14% of our entire population, that’s approximately 3.7 million people Australia-wide —including one in six children …are currently living below the poverty line. I am choosing to speak for those human beings among us who have no voice, they are too busy to have one!

Especially farmers – those faithful men and women who are far too busy getting up at 3.00am to 5.00am to milk their cows or pick their crop, to be complaining about the way someone else lives. The people in our cities simply cannot afford to forget them. Those who work on the land suffer the hardships of this great, wonderful, sometimes frightening land we live in — along with children, the elderly and the disabled. We need to help each other.

My own personal success rate with growing our own fruit and veggies at our house is about 5%. So I definitely need them or I would starve. I don’t even want to begin to think about killing a chicken! I just thank God for someone with greater skills than I have, who will do that for me. Maybe today we can take the time to prayerfully remember those people who put the food on our plates. And I don’t just mean just the supermarket magnates – who have entirely different problems! I mean the little guy stocking the shelves all day every day, just so you can have your favourite brand of Cornflakes.

In the past 21 years we’ve found that we don’t always have to give money to help, even a tiny bit of love shared, lightens the load. We just try to spread kindness, compassion around wherever we go, as He leads us. When His Grace visits these precious souls He loves so dearly, we’ve seen people with tears pouring down their faces because we simply came to help them however we could. “… I was in prison and you visited Me…” Matthew 25:36. Poverty, despair and abuse, are all types of different prisons.

The Body of Christ has been told to live this way. It’s not an optional extra. Over the years, many of us have left ministry to our leaders, instead of understanding that we can all do something.  This time some children in a local school bagged up the toiletries for us. When we take care of the poor and disadvantaged, we are doing it for Jesus, because He has chosen to totally identify Himself with them. He has also been rejected and misunderstood by the world around Him. Not to mention His parents, and immediate family. (Mark 3:20-21), (John 7:1-5), (Mark 3:31-35).

For three and a half years the Lord Jesus Himself lived on the road, going from town to town, walking long distances. And He lived like that to totally identify with all of us. He slept by the side of tracks, and relied upon the kindness of friends and strangers for food. He even ate grain straight from a field, and drank water from a well!

At the beginning of His life – not long after He was born, in the poorest of circumstances, His parents took Him as an infant and ran for their lives from persecution. This is one of the many things I love about the Lord Jesus. It says: “…He shared our sorrows and pain….” Not just in theological theory, but in practice. A follower, is someone devoted to Jesus’ Ways. They choose to pick up their cross and learn from the Master Himself, daily.

Jesus Christ, God incarnate, deliberately chose to live like we do. I remind myself … that the KING of heaven chose to live like an ordinary human being. This means He knows suffering, firsthand. After all, none of us can live this life without bumping into it! That’s why the Lord Jesus is the perfect Saviour. His compassion for mankind is so much greater and all encompassing than we can imagine. We don’t have to be millionaires to care or share. When our lives are not our own, its easy. We just share whatever we have.

So off we go again… Bye …🚙  PS I’ll be writing blogs as we travel, and a huge thank you to all those who are praying for us.

P3392 Wisdom must be sought.

Sometimes we verbally understand, but we still can’t see what Jesus is showing us, because our minds are so filled up with the things of the ordinary life we are living. We listen carefully, but there are times when we can’t hear what the Lord is saying – because we already have a preconceived idea about the subject and the answer. Those things stop us from mixing what we read, or can see, in the bible, with faith. The following thoughts are suggestions by the way, and I hope they will prove to be helpful in the area of gaining wisdom – they help me. The bible clearly tells us in James 1:5-8:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” Double-mindedness is sure to shoot any one of us in the foot. To have a single mind, we need to keep our focus on what Jesus wants. He is more important than our own personal, or even denominational principles.

Here are four keys I really like and use, that talk about walking in wisdom. The first is we need to live prepared to say: “I’m sorry.” There is nothing more powerful than a genuine apology prompted by repentance. Some of us say: “I’m sorry” like we are saying: “Would you please pass the salt?” Sadly, that can be merely lip service, not repentance. I believe “I’m sorry” is a heading, under which both people can come to understand one another better. This means we will gain back our brother and learn something … all-at-the-same-time!

My next step about finding and recognising wisdom is this: “I need help.” In the verse above from James, he advises us that we should ask the Lord to help us. Father God Himself is the source of all wisdom. He knows what we need to hear, and how we need to hear it. In my limited experience, many people often go from one person to another asking the same question. It seems to me they are looking for someone to agree with what they think or hope, rather than actually seeking God’s wisdom. God’s wisdom is an arrow that shoots straight at the heart – it does not miss its mark. Man’s wisdom can be corrupted by human agendas.

The Holy Spirit’s wisdom is sound and strong, it doesn’t have to look for a consensus, because His Word can stand up anywhere, despite any opposition. When we count how many people said this, and how many said that, and then pick a winner suiting ourselves, that’s foolishness. Our Heavenly Father’s wisdom is sovereign, and if we want a second opinion about what we think we’ve heard from the Lord, then we need to go and dig about in the bible, or find someone else, a more mature Christian, who knows stuff we don’t yet. Some people have walked with Jesus for a while, and they’ve picked up His wisdom along the way.

That leads me to my next point, which is this: “I don’t know.” We haven’t “arrived’ anywhere – we are all still in His processes, so we are always going to need to hear His point of view. The bible is a huge book that has so much in it. Give yourself a break, not knowing everything is not a disaster, it’s human. Feel free to ask questions of the pastor, or more senior members of the Body of Christ. Do a word study for yourself.

Most of the wisdom I have personally gleaned, comes from doing things the wrong way first! Sigh. Not knowing in our hearts, or understanding something is not a sin. It doesn’t make us stupid, or, even worse … un-spiritual! We often accidentally misunderstand the Lord and each other. And the Lord is non-partisan – He gives wisdom to profit everyone, not just a select few. In today’s world, knowing things equals power. Our carefully cultivated, deep abiding respect for the Lord and His Ways, is the beginning of wisdom.

Here’s the last one: “I was wrong.” All of us could find ourselves stumbling over this one. It has become very easy to avoid responsibility for our own actions. People move from denying whatever happened, to publicly stringing others up naked, by their toenails … out of pure spite or revenge. We dare not use His truth to prove our own point, unless we are sure He asked us to do it. That’s not what truth is for!

I’ve noticed that other people are so desperate to vindicate themselves they resort to using the media to make a point. Saying things like: ‘It’s not my fault! It can’t be my fault, I will fall apart if it turns out to be my fault. NO! A thousand times NO … I simply must blame you, because I can’t face my own sinfulness and lack of love. ERGO: YOU made me do it. It’s YOUR fault.’

That sort of attitude cannot foster a cohesive and interactive congregation, where relationships can thrive. It can also be why churches have cliques, or why we shop around and try to find someone else who shares our pet answer to life – simply to use their opinions to reinforce ours. In other words, I’ve decided my safety will take precedence over yours, and now we are stuck in a situation that is going nowhere.

So! Let’s recap: we have four less-than-popular attitudes that could limit the possibility of us walking in wisdom as His child, unless we choose to take them in. “I’m sorry,” I need help,” “I don’t know,” “ I was wrong.” These things will all come naturally as we learn to embrace humility. We can easily limit ourselves by working hard to maintain a point of view that is not a reflection of His heart toward others. Lastly, God’s wisdom must be sought, treasured, and applied to ME, first. Bye 👋.

P 3390 Without Jesus we can do NOTHING…

… ergo … Jesus must become the central focus of our lives. He talked about a way to live – not just a life-style with optional extras. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5. Nothing eternal can happen without Jesus, and what He has already done for all of us. Nothing. He died, rose again and sent us back the Holy Spirit to help us, and now we dare not do anything without that guidance. After all the Holy Spirit is the Spirit Who helped Christ live and die, for His Father’s glory.

Let’s chew on this next scripture a bit: “If I give all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profits me nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:3. If we can do nothing without Him, (and the scriptures make that clear), then why would we get up every single day and try very hard to do the things that we think or hope will please God? Instead let’s make His kind of love our priority, and stop striving our way through each day. Love has to be our starting place not an add-on. Every time we listen to the Holy Spirit and do things Father God’s way, we are glorifying the Father.

Jesus deliberately sent the Holy Spirit back to help us.“I will not leave you alone, I will come to you.” John 14:18. Listening to the Holy Spirit means we are listening to Father God’s will. In another version it says: “I will not leave you as orphans.” Because of God’s great love for each one of us, we are not orphans, because we are never alone. He has promised to be with us. If we want to live this life in fellowship with Him, we need to learn how to speak His language of love and remember that everything He does comes from that love. Here is something to think on:  it is utterly impossible to speak ‘love,’ and go out and live and act like everyone else does. That’s why we’ve been called ‘vessels set apart, fit for the Master’s use.‘

So, I need to do more than just memorise the scriptures, although: ‘…hiding His Word in our hearts, so we may not sin against Him”… is not a bad thing. However, as we learn and experience what the bible says about the way God Himself sees love, then we will begin to understand how to speak His language. Love sent Jesus to the cross — first of all it was His all-encompassing love for His Father, plus His overwhelming love for all of mankind. Love for us caused His Father to send Him here in the first place! If the Lord Jesus could do nothing without the Holy Spirit’s help, then neither can we.

Let’s look at the way Jesus faced death: “And going a little farther He (Jesus) fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 36:29. The Lord prayed for relief … for rescue … for a way out … but there was none. The next time it appears as if you are stuck in something or other, then try praying the prayer Jesus Himself prayed when He was faced with the unthinkable. “Not what I want, but what You want Father.”

The major difficulty we face daily, is that we want an easy answer to everything, so we can continue to live our lives uncluttered by complications. But that is not how God loves – He sees trouble and difficulties as normal – as opportunities for change . (John 16:33) His love looks for the best in us because He can already see the results! I think, for Almighty God, cost is a part of expressed love and the results are often long term! We can’t afford to do this living day-to-day stuff – without His ongoing guidance. And He has not left us alone.

It can be easy to ask: “why won’t God answer my prayers? Well, maybe neither you nor I know what’s good for us! Perhaps the Lord has entirely different plans for our specific situation … ask Him! “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. I’m sure you can see from that verse that the Lord has our future in mind, not just the immediate present. The nation of Israel became Jesus Christ’s own people – God’s plans for Israel were already in place.

There is more than one way to look at the things we think that God is saying. I think this is why we shouldn’t use the scriptures to hurt one another, because the bible can say more than one thing at a time. It’s in layers. Have you ever read a verse and gone back 6 months later and seen something brand new in it, something you had never seen before? Maybe that’s why brother-such-and-such doggedly says: ‘this verse only means that’ … and sister I’ll-always-argue-with-you says: ‘no it doesn’t, it means this.’ It may well be that both people are just looking at the same thing from a different direction!

We can’t understand what the Lord is saying, if we already have a pre-conceived idea what the answer should look like. Let’s live this brand new way of life with bigger thoughts. His. We can do nothing without Him. 1 Corinthians 13:12  “We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing Him directly just as He knows us!” Bye. 👋

P 3389 It’s always Personal.

I believe the Lord treats each one of us as individuals. Especially when it comes to salvation. Many people make a strong personal decision that they want to follow Christ, and then they start going to church. For others baptism is a catalyst. And some hear something preached that strikes them in the heart and they are convicted and convinced of their need for a Saviour. An even smaller group are simply pole-axed when Jesus sovereignly makes Himself real to them.

We only know about the 12 men Jesus called —- but others also followed Him around — 72 went out on a mission trip, and there were 120 in the room at Pentecost. We don’t know their stories. These are all legitimate ways to get to know Christ. Ananias and Sapphira were followers of Jesus until they decided what Jesus didn’t know wouldn’t hurt Him. It’s what we do about stuff next, that matters.

The place many of us stumble is in the area of commitment. Total commitment. Those people all have one thing in common – the Lord Jesus means everything to us. Whatever He wants us to do, we do. In contrast, loving Jesus, and going to heaven seems to be more than enough for others. And many of us think that total dedication belongs to people like pastors, evangelists, missionaries, prophets etc. Today I want to talk about the importance of moving from … Getting to Know Christ — into deliberately choosing to follow Him, day by day.

The bible shows many examples of this, I have chosen two. In Matthew 19:21 it says: “Jesus answered him, “If you wish to be perfect [that is, have the spiritual maturity that accompanies godly character with no moral or ethical deficiencies], go and sell what you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk].

The guy in this story walked away, sad because He was too attached to material things. This is why I want to differentiate between knowing about Jesus and deliberately following Him. This choice is every individual human being’s responsibility. We choose for ourselves to change the direction of our lives, get rid of the things the Lord says to get rid of, and then walk in this world the way He walked in it. It is not enough to agree with Him, or even like His principles. “A disciple, when He is fully trained, will be just like His Master.” Luke 6:40.

Let’s read John 6:60. This comes up as Jesus talks about eating His flesh and drinking His blood:  “Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?” When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you? What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.”

We can often be offended by the bible, because it jumps on the things we think are OK. Why did these people quit? Because what the Lord Himself said offended them. These people judged Him, they said; “That’s just wrong. I’m not doing that.” It would have been better for them to simply ask what the Lord meant by what He said, but they took it literally and left. People leave churches and Christianity itself for even sillier reasons. There is a deeper meaning in what the Lord said here, and the people who walked away didn’t press in to find out what that was.

He will test each one of us. He knows what is in the heart of man and He tests us, because He is preparing us. Love does that! It sees what is coming next. We prepare our children for school, when they are tiny because we know they will have to go. God’s love for us means He does not want us unprepared for what comes next. We learn to train our mind, body and spirit into obedience to Christ – and like James says, the hard bit is to teach our tongue not to flap about saying anything and everything!

I wish I could tackle the problem here, of the Charismatic bent to feel something when we follow Jesus. The truth is, more than half of us feel nothing. We set out to do what He says to do, acting in obedience, not on feelings. I personally feel nothing most-of-the-time. The bad feelings however, can sometimes assault me all over the place! I’ve had to learn to choose to believe the Lord, no matter what else is going on – in season and out! For years I struggled with the ‘feeling stuff people” who seemed to fall down or laugh or cry at the drop of a hat. I was jealous (!)—  now I’ve learnt that Father God values our obedience no matter how we feel. John 20:29.

Following Jesus is personal. Just like being a Christian isn’t an inherited thing, every single one of us needs to choose for ourselves Whom we will serve. Sometimes daily. I cannot blame you, or others if they are making my life difficult – my response comes from me. It is very hard to grow the fruit of self-control. Taking what we read in the bible every single day seriously is personal. When I read about others in the bible I ask the Lord: “Do I do that?” If it is a bad thing, then I repent on the  spot. If it is a good thing, then I thank God for giving me the Grace to prevail under difficult circumstances. Bye 👋.

P 3388 Just include Jesus in everything.

I want to start today’s blog with something that the Lord has said: “WE CAN demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. WE CAPTURE, like prisoners of war, EVERY THOUGHT and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 TPT. Now we know what God says, let’s move on into real life and how that works for us. We want to remove any seeds of opposition and doubt that will stop the tree of His life from growing in our lives.

Here’s an imaginary scenario — the roads are busy, and your kids are squabbling in the backseat of the car on the way home from school. On that same day, the electricity bill turned up and you know you can’t pay it, because all your financial reserves have been exhausted by other important things. Maybe you are a single mother, and your ex has suddenly decided to disappear without paying the alimony you and your kids need. Someone cuts you off in traffic and nearly causes an accident.

These sorts of situations are where temptation grabs us. I think we fall prey to this stuff, because we think that temptation is about deliberately doing something really terrible – like robbing a bank, murdering someone or sleeping around etc. —but it seems to me that this life tests us far more regarding ordinary, everyday things. All those places where anger and frustration seem to be just the normal response. However, if we deliberately choose to trust what we know about God Himself over, and above all our circumstances, then we will learn to manage our thoughts with His help.

Jesus wants to be IN every part of every single thing that affects our lives. But if we only ask Him to help us for the big things – the little things will have a collective negative result. It’s those little foxes, that spoil the vine and wreak havoc with the fruit! It seems normal to think what has happened to you, like this: “It’s not fair.” That’s the place to put the stop sign! Taking thoughts captive is about dealing with ourselves asap, because after we have succumbed to temptation it is harder to walk ourselves back. Physical responses become engaged once our thoughts are racing.

Not every thought that enters our head is ours. That random thought that flits through my mind is not necessarily ME talking to myself. Did you know that the enemy can even use our own ‘thinking voice’ to trick us into assuming that we came up with some hair-brained scheme or other? he loves to target us when we are under pressure. Here’s what happened as a result of that fiasco in the Garden of Eden. Mankind actually gave satan access to influence and put thoughts onto the screen of our minds, simply because WE LISTENED TO him.

Now he and his minions take advantage of any hard situation that crops up. Maybe we have a random icky thought, and then we feel bad. Right then satan turns around and bashes us with self-condemnation. “You are supposed to be spiritual,” he hisses at us. he gave us that thought and now he is going to use it to beat us up. The bible tells us what to do with stray icky thoughts. We prayerfully take them captive, because we want our knowledge of Jesus to be more important, and prevalent in our minds, than those other thoughts are.

What to do? Let’s start with the lie. Start by hitting that sucker with the truth. Take note of your thoughts and bang them on the head with scripture. Even if it is muddled it is still His word! It’s about you using your faith, not just accuracy. It’s not a magic formula, it’s Jesus, He loves you and He reads your heart. “There is no condemnation for those who are IN CHRIST JESUS.” Romans 8:1. We are In Christ Jesus because of what the Lord Jesus did for us. These tempting situations are far more about our faith working for us, than they are about getting stuff right, through our own efforts.

There are times we can be tempted to try harder because we are very busy. The phone keeps going, the boss wants something done, like yesterday. The kids are whining and nagging at you, so you pick yourself up off the floor and make yourself do that thing that you don’t want to do. You are tired, so it is easier to just get on with it.

Your rationale goes like this: ”I prayed at the beginning of the day that the Lord would be with me and help me, and I took care of business with Him. So now all day, I will just do the next thing.” That’s not the optimum way to approach this subject. Jesus wants to be with us to help us with every-little-thing that happens in our day. He wants us to win the battle against unproductive works, because those things rarely give God glory. Right about now you could be thinking: “Okay, but I’m a very busy person, I don’t have time to stop and pray, and these things keep flying at me.”  Yup! That’s what the other guy is hoping for —- he wants you to go back to trying harder, because it seems easier. Here is my suggestion just quietly, say “HELP!”

The Holy Spirit is here to help us. Once you’ve asked for His help, then tackle what needs to be tackled with His help, from His point of view.  Following Jesus means we include Him in everything. The good, the bad, and the ‘OH! my goodness what have I done now?’  Walk with Jesus, He will work with you and help you. Bye 👋.
