Father’s kingdom

P 3159 He will inhabit our lives.

“My beloved ones, just like you’ve always listened to everything I’ve taught you in the past, I’m asking you now to keep following My instructions as though I were right there with you. Now you must continue to make this new life fully manifested as you live in the holy awe of God—which brings you trembling into His Presence. God will continually revitalise you, implanting within you the passion to do what pleases Him.” Philippians 2:12-13 TPT.

We cannot afford to postpone following His instructions, they are life and health to our bones! (Proverbs 3:7-8.) This is not just about our bones, BTW, it is about us living daily in His standing-up-in-the-middle-of-difficulties strength! It is our responsibility to allow His life to be fully manifested in us. Jesus did not save us so we could hide away in religious activities and tell ourselves: “that will do.” He saved us to be His ambassadors to this world. To start with, we need to redefine what real love looks like, the people around us think love looks like getting my own way!

God Himself knows the best way for any of us to live our lives. We can think we know, but we cannot foresee the future –  it is outside our control. Even Christians rumble along, listening to this instruction the Lord has given us, and ignoring that one because it’s ‘too hard and God won’t mind.’ We cannot afford to cherry-pick the verses we want to obey and the ones we don’t. Jesus died for us, and we died with Him, and this new life we have now is His.

Jesus Himself knew the secret of being ‘in’ the world, but not ‘of’ the world. His FOCUS was always on His Father’s kingdom. He did not treat a KING any differently than a peasant! He simply spent His time ministering to  people, displaying His Father’s love to them, meeting their needs. The Lord Jesus lived to love others, and obey His Father in all things. He didn’t save His life – He spent it!

Jesus’ life and death shows us that living like He did can be done. But it is painfully obvious we will need help — our love is not as hot as it should be. When God is an add-on, or merely SomeOne we run to, to fix things, passion will not be a part of our love for Him. However, the Holy Spirit knows both passion and devotion. That’s why Jesus sent back Him back to us. The Spirit of God helps us see and live in God’s perspective about the things happening in our lives. Jesus does not have to prove He loves us by answering our prayers – His life, death and resurrection are all the proof we need.

And what’s more the Lord’s life shows us that there is a better life than we can ever imagine when we learn to walk with Him in His Ways!  We have been blessed, we can bring heaven here, right here, right now — when we live His Way for His purposes. Whether we can see or hear Him or not – we can live in joy, loving others the way He loved us. Obedience opens doors. Day after day I hear people talking about fulfilment in this life. Maybe they don’t feel fulfilled because they were made for a purpose, and believe it or not that purpose wasn’t just to live in comfort, or annoy the living daylights out of someone else! 

The Lord may be temporarily absent from us, but He is oh so close and present, in the bible. We can always find Him in His book. Jesus Himself is called the LIVING WORD! And I need a living word every single day. I am daily learning to put my feelings to one side. Now the only thing I care about is His peace in me. When I have His peace, I can do anything. Believe it or not I am as scared of other people as you are!  But …the Holy Spirit is so faithful. He can’t help Himself – it’s His nature.

“Let’s not get weary in the well doing…”  Galatians 6:9. Pressing in and on, can seem daunting. As you get older, like I have, you just want to sit down somewhere comfy, with a cup of tea, and watch the world go by. I like life in the slow-lane. But I love to see the faces of the people who have no idea how much they are loved by God Himself so much MORE than my own comfort. This life is a series of choices. It is not so much about making good or bad choices, as it is about making ‘A’ choice, any choice. It is very hard to move a stationary vehicle. 

My advice is to do something… anything. Be generous, share with others, mow someone’s lawn, talk to some elderly shut-in. And watch the Lord turn up and love on people just because you reached out to them. They will be attracted to Jesus-in-you. It’s not us – it’s never us! It’s because HE is altogether lovely!! We don’t have to market Him, advertise Him, or explain Him — we just turn up with Him … with the King in residence here → ❤️ in our hearts. He promised to never leave us or forsake us or give us up – so He’s with us, whether we feel Him or not. Why not just believe Him? 

The way to fill up your heart is in Matthew 7:7-8, and Jeremiah 29:13 – look it up. Choose to believe what He says and not your feelings.“Here’s what Yahweh says to you: “I know all about the marvellous destiny I have in store for you, a future planned out in detail. My intention is not to harm you but to surround you with peace and prosperity and to give you a beautiful future, glistening with hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 TPT. Jesus will inhabit our lives as we step out and use our faith that what He said, He meant. Bye. 👋

P 2889 People disagree …

… sometimes very loudly! When you read the gospels you will find different people from all walks of life that are outrageously unkind, plus people who cheat each other, or they hate each other for all kinds of reasons. The thing is, disagreements are not necessarily about who is right and who is wrong – that’s this world’s way of thinking. ‘I think I am much right-er than YOU are,’ is a really common theme. I hate disagreements … everybody loses!

To be perfectly honest with you, difficulties can have a positive side, they can usher in change in us – if we put down our sword of attack, and pick up His Grace, the people around us would feel much safer! God’s Grace needs to be the way we live now. What Jesus did at Calvary, released an incredible, overabundant Grace, and it is ours for the taking. We need to use our faith. Let me clarify that into English – let what you’ve been given by God be your new motivation – it makes it easier to apologise! Do it for the Lord!  He deserves to see the reward of His suffering in our lives.

This is our highest form of worship. This, in its very essence, is Romans 12:1 ”Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”When we choose His will, His Way, we are choosing to worship Him! Here’s another scripture nobody much likes, Jesus said it: “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13. We live this way for people who totally don’t deserve that kind of attitude or action from us! I’ve known people who said: “I would die for you” – but they haven’t considered that dying for the other person might include not liking or loving them very much at the time! 

Jesus chose to die for us, and He loved us while He did it! Good place to praise God for mercy!! Before you throw your hands up in the air in frustration, because we all have difficult people in our lives …think about it. Name somebody in the bible who had a happy, trouble-free, carefree life – you can’t do it can you? Our happiness, our purest joy comes from knowing Him – other people and relationships line up behind that. It often seems to me in those angry moments, that I’ve forgotten that love is a choice not a feeling!! 

Human beings stagger about doing the weirdest stuff, searching for that mythical land that is called “my happiness.” It won’t happen – it can’t happen. If we don’t find our happiness in serving Him, and learning His Ways – we are doomed to keep repeating the same rubbish mistakes over and over again. We will remain stuck in a mire of our own choosing. The answer to other people driving us crazy isn’t them changing – It’s our own personal transformation – we change the way we think and see everyone else, and they don’t bother us anymore!

There really is a place where other people don’t have to get on your nerves – Jesus Christ lived there and He was a man just like us. Every single one of those irritations are giving us an opportunity to die to self. Jesus didn’t have to wrangle His emotions, because He knew what was important – He knew the book from when He was 12! Everything He did He did to further His Father’s Kingdom. That’s now our job.

Christians admire other people’s testimonies. Things like: some dear missionary went to some lost tribe, and the tribe was saved but they chopped the poor missionary into little bits.’ Let’s pause a minute … the thing is, we don’t have rampant indigenous tribes waiting to kill us … instead we have Mrs Kerfoops who is always gossiping about everyone and she comes to church every Sunday … that dear lady needs to know His Grace. Obviously she has none, because she can’t keep her mouth shut. Somebody is going to have to be a source of God’s Grace toward her!

The bible works as a WHOLE. That missionary who died released Grace to the pagan tribe …  they left their comfortable homeland and went to a strange place for the sake of the gospel. That’s GRACE. Today’s Christians don’t value GRACE enough. We expect other people to understand US.. Instead we need to learn to turn the other cheek and walk the extra mile, right in the middle of the time when we feel so provoked we just want to thump the person who is provoking us. 

This means we will need to put His Grace into action to manage our painful circumstances. Think on this — the Grace that we cling to while the world around us continually shifts on its axis, is the same Grace we give away to other people when they don’t deserve it. In those moments I remind myself — “I don’t deserve His Grace either!” It really does help. Right along with my all time favourite prayer. “Help help!” Prayer is so much more than words, it is an attitude of our hearts!

Some of the time people disagree because they don’t know Him well enough yet. So there are no hard and fast rules as to who should be the one to give away Grace. I’ve found if I can actually see what is going on, then that means He will help me to get through it. I step out in faith, and I ask for His help to holster my own opinion. I’ve yet to start cheering when a disagreement comes up, but these things are opportunities for me to practise what I preach. Bye. 👋

P 2776 Learning occurs in a process.

When we live this life accepting our faults;  as well as dismissing the fact that we are not what we can be;  but at the same time refusing to choose to learn to overcome – that’s when we are lowering the standard Christ set before us. The bible says we must press on … continually … toward that new mark. Human beings often make the right noises, so that they can remain comfortable. However – comfort is not our new aim. Our aim is to live this life like He would. Christ is not petty or mean, nor did He ignore human suffering, and He spoke constantly about His Father’s kingdom. My point is this: I believe we are stopping short of the mark Father God set for us when He sent Christ.

When I was born again, I knew I was different, inside. But, at the same time, there were parts of my personhood that had been previously damaged, in the way life damages all of us. At that time I did not know that I had left my sinful nature behind so instead, I tried to avoid sin, and I failed. I gossiped, or thought lustful thoughts etc. in secret. As I behaved like that I got mad at myself and I tried and tried even harder to be better. Avoidance, sin, denial, despair, guilt and condemnation plagued my faith. At that time I knew nothing about how real faith works. In the end, I slowly reverted to the old insecurities that had plagued me in my previous life. But, praise Jesus, He always kept after me. 

We ALL need to die to self. We all fall short of God’s glorious ideal Man. That goes right across the board. There is no easy way to do it or say it, that’s why Jesus told us to pick up our cross and follow Him. We must choose to go on a journey – it’s called dying to self. That’s where mercy and compassion grows. As I learn to die to self, I can easily see that life is hard for you too, because this kind of dying is not easy for anyone! It involves, discipline, self-control, and patience, as well as listening to and being guided by the Holy Spirit. I think that spiritual correction is normal, the Epistles have a lot of instances of it. However heart knowledge of the love of God toward us, will help us go higher – Christ already did the work, now we step out in faith and follow His lead. But some things are learnt under pressure. Christianity is not for cowards or slackers, it is for the dedicated.

Around about the same time I read in the bible that obedience is a key that unlocks the door to living out the kingdom of God – here and now. It is not good to read His book and disobey what it says. Instead, it is essential for Christians to read the bible looking for things to do. If it says to repent wherever you are reading, then stop reading, and ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you need to repent. Even when you don’t get an immediate answer just keep on pressing in. We already know we are not perfect, so we must have done something that we have dismissed or chosen not to remember! In those moments I refuse to excuse myself because I know I probably ignored the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudge.

So then I ask Him to forgive me for ignoring Him, and that opens the door to revelation of my own motivation. The things-I-have-said-and-done-recently that had their roots in selfishness, self preservation and cruelty. We are in a learning process. However, there needs to be a visible progression as we learn to love others. We are to love them like He does. Now our faith life becomes active. It shows up outwardly as it flows out of sheer, gut-wrenching obedience. I regard the bible as truth that has been written down. It becomes solid, seeable, when we ACT on it. That means I need actions and appropriate activities to validate His word, as it changes my life. 

When I act on what He says, I begin to learn – from experience – how I can change. I can’t just say I believe the bible, and then still look and sound like everyone else around me! Or even say the word “sorry” and hope that will cover the fact that I keep repeating some sins over and over again. Doing that is a patch. Sadly, it will not transform anything. Jesus said in Matthew 9:16: that you can’t put an un-shrunken patch onto an old piece of cloth, it will tear. Our ongoing efforts to change ourselves, are that patch. We gain humility when we begin see ourselves realistically and we stop excusing the very things we are meant to crucify. Yes, we are dearly loved by God, but we are still not perfected. Our old man is incredibly active and selfish through and through – so we need to die – day by day, minute by minute, using our choices, perseverance, by acting in faith.

To re-present Christ we need transformation in the ranks. This life we live now is to be lived by faith, doing what the Holy Spirit tells and teaches us to do. It will not become a reality by simply pretending we are nice, and blaming everyone else for how nasty we can be when no-one else is around to hear us. Our potential needs to be realised by our whole-hearted participation, and true humility is knowing who we are without Christ’s ever present guidance. SomeBody Else paid to give us the right and the power to choose to change our ways. Now we voluntarily enter this life-long lesson of learning to love the unlovely… and we choose to stay there because that’s the teaching moment. Learning occurs in a process.  Bye. 👋
