P 3420 Let’s imitate Christ.

We won’t all walk with God at the same pace, at the same time. But I believe we will one day, and I hope I’m still here to see it, because it will be a glorious sight! Spiritual harmony is a beautiful thing. The more life throws bitter lemons at us the more we chase after Jesus, we want to respond the way that He would. That’s what imitation looks like. Our primary goal is this: “Whatever it takes for that other person to see Our Heavenly Father loves them, I will give.” Very ordinary, normal, but truly extraordinary people have died for that cause.

It is extremely damaging to our faith to follow Jesus and avoid the saints, simply because we happen to think they are poor examples of Christ. We are all in differing stages of our spiritual development and we need to remember that our choices control our actions. However, there is a huge difference between gently pointing out someone’s error, OR, choosing to pontificate over their weakness.  Next time it could be our turn to fall over!

Learning to love those people who really really irritate us is a lifelong lesson. In the natural it is much easier to fight with them, and then keep our distance afterwards. Let’s make it our great quest to learn His Kingdom Ways of loving the unloveable – imitating the Way our Father loves us. He doesn’t love us because we are so special, or so appealing, He loves us because it is in His very nature to love. Therefore we need His nature to become our nature, and that’s often a process. It’s a process we are all IN!

“Be imitators of God in everything you do, for then you will represent your Father as His beloved sons and daughters. And continue to walk surrendered to the extravagant love of Christ, for He surrendered His life as a sacrifice for us. His great love for us was pleasing to God, like an aroma of adoration—a sweet healing fragrance.” Ephesians 5:1-2 TPT. Paul said that. Personally, I have learnt to see there is great value in paying attention to my choices, they can lead me away from following the Lord.

It seems to me that human beings can’t easily live this way, unless we choose the lowest road of surrender and devotion to the Lord Himself. Jesus has already done all the work necessary for each one of us to live a changed life. He looked through the cross and saw all of us dying in our sins, and had compassion on us. He did what He did on behalf of His Father’s great love, to glorify, honour, and fulfil His Father’s plans. It was for our good. Real love involves correction not simply harsh confrontation. And petting and patting down the things that will ever-so-slowly turn us away from Him – is fruitless.

Paul tells us this:“ …  just as I please everyone in all things [as much as possible adapting myself to the interests of others], not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, so that they [will be open to the message of salvation and] may be saved.” That’s 1 Corinthians 10:33. Immediately following on from that comes 1 Corinthians 11:1: “Imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.” Sometimes, those Chapter divisions can be more of an interruption to a whole thought, so it is good to keep reading a little further!

We are to be imitators of good…. “Imitation involves a careful observation, and a precise study of the act or action of the mentor…” (Wisdom Hunters). I translate that like this —   follow Jesus, and do what He did! The conformity to Christ’s Ways is what matters, not the methodology. I know some saints who have learnt from their own experiences, that whatever they do in their own strength, pales into insignificance to what God Himself can do through their willing surrender. So they seek His Ways above anything else. I call that wisdom!

Paul also says: “Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.” Philippians 3:17.“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you…” He writes that in Philippians 4:9. Paul believes in this kind of imitation – look, learn, and practice.

This kind of imitation is not like the knock-off handbags you find on a street stall – that’s called forgery! But if we were to take the right kind of the best leather, and treat it the same way that famous manufacturer does, then that becomes an imitation. An imitation becomes a fake when it deliberately misleads and lies to you, and tries to trick you into believing it is something it is not. Our imitation of Jesus must not be fake. It needs to come from our hearts, containing a sincere desire to please HIM.

Jesus gave us some examples in the Beatitudes, Matthew 5:40,41: “And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.  If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” So we are to be overgenerous when people get narky at us. Otherwise we can be dragged into some sort of court, not only letting the bad guy win — we will also end up really really cold, with sore feet!

It is costly to follow Jesus and it is about time we stopped pretending it isn’t. But the benefits far outweigh the cost. Following Him means we are daily choosing to walk with Him, His Way.  To imitate that Way of living, we choose to live this life not holding onto things. Let’s purpose in our hearts to care more about other people, than stuff. Bye. 👋

P 3331 In but not of …

“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes.” Romans 12:2 TPT.  That’s pretty plain isn’t it? Not much to explain there. And here’s another one, where Jesus Himself is praying for us… “My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.” John 17:15-16.

The thing is, without inward transformation, we are wasting our time and effort trying to capture the-people-who-don’t-know-Him’s attention with our own clever ideas and plans. We need to have the Lord’s guidance, His way to reach out to people. We serve the One Who took people out onto a hillside and they were so captured by what Jesus said, they didn’t even think about eating.

The point made in this scripture is that the Lord knows how to go straight to the heart of the matter, and we don’t. Let’s ask for His help! The bonus is we get to know God’s will for our lives. We no longer live by this world’s standards. The ‘latest thing’ is the ‘last thing’ on our minds! Unless the Holy Spirit kisses what we are doing and tears off the roof, our plans are limited, His are not.

Jesus isn’t praying for us to live detached from this world, like somehow what’s out there can stop what’s inside us from flourishing!  Our choices do that for us, they are what influence us. We don’t need to separate ourselves from the lives we are here to touch when we’ve decide to make Him our priority. Instead Jesus is praying that we will be protected from the devices of our enemy – who is all around us. Here’s my litmus test for in not of …  Ask yourself what occupies most of your thoughts?

I have been to churches in many places, that are pale imitations of what this world can produce all by itself. In the end, the productions become more important than the God we worship or the people we are here to reach. Let’s realise that when it comes to production – this world is waa-aa-aa-ay better at it than we are! They’ve got great gizmos to help them make fake things look real.

I think that’s because whatever IS represented by this world is fake. In our churches we want to produce the real thing — but you can’t produce the real thing, from fake roots. Entertainment is by its very nature, anti-what-Jesus-stands-for. He wants to glorify His Father, by what He says and does. He can use entertainment, but He doesn’t need it. We can say we want to glorify God, but I’ve been involved in the production of a number of things in the past and this world does not easily let go of the idea that being bigger, better, brighter, more clever is the way to go!

Human beings think that doing something well, is going to impress the world and help them to believe in what they are selling. They don’t need to be impressed with us, these people need the King, not our clever, glamorous well-produced rhetoric. Our message doesn’t need any help! It’s in the book and God Himself wrote it. Our God is the God of the Universe, He doesn’t want or need our advertising, He  wants to reach the people around us, with healing, deliverance, salvation and the Good News.

We have been asked to make disciples, followers of Jesus Christ – not groupies. Changing someone’s heart is His job. Ours is to co-operate with the Holy Spirit and make a permanent place for the Lord in our hearts and our churches – then we follow the Holy Spirit’s instructions regarding how we approach others. Our churches are where we meet to glorify Him and give Him the praise He so richly deserves. And all our gifts are to be surrendered and used to glorify Him — our fellowship is sweeter because of Him.

Our meetings cannot be about “the atmosphere’ either – an atmosphere is easily created and easily broken. What we do is about Him, done for His sake, for His pleasure. We can’t substitute special effects for the anointing – it is far better to get on our faces and find out where we’ve missed Him, than to plough on competing with this world’s idea of a good time.

To be in not of  means we are totally aware of our surroundings, and we can see and hear the people around us. Their needs, their hopes, their squashed broken lives. It is so easy to segregate ourselves away from the very people the Lord saved us to reach — simply because they do this and that, and that stuff might corrupt us. The hard times that have fallen upon everyone has disproved that theory. People are dying inside – they have no hope.  And guess what we have – HOPE!

We have the incorruptible One living inside us!1 Peter 1:23 says: “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” 1 John 4:4: “Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” In but not of is about singular focus, not just distraction. I would rather spend 5 minutes with a Spirit-filled person than 5 seconds with someone else’s clever ideas. Bye for now, 👋

P 3112 Bob the Builder just won’t do.

“If God’s grace doesn’t help the builders, they will labor in vain to build a house. If God’s mercy doesn’t protect the city, all the sentries will circle it in vain. It really is senseless to work so hard from early morning till late at night, toiling to make a living for fear of not having enough. God can provide for His devoted lovers even while they sleep!” Psalms 127:1-2 TPT

Psalm 127 has impacted me, because in the past, I was one of the wrong kind of builders, labouring in vain to make sure my ‘house’ looked good, ran fairly smoothly, and everyone in it was kept happy! I wanted to be a good witness for Jesus – and I failed. That’s too much weight for any human being — that’s why Jesus told us to give HIM our burdens! I had no idea that labouring in the flesh, together with maintaining positive talk – without any real substance to it— meant God was not building what He wanted, because I was in His way!

The real blessing of Jesus’ redemption is that it takes the mess we’ve made and utterly renews it, through asking for, and receiving the Grace of God into our lives! DAILY. Truthfulness with ourselves matters, and real intimacy with Him will bring us face to face with our own humanity. Back then, I prayed and waited, for my new life in Christ to fall on me …and … everything stayed the same. Actually, I think I got worse! At the same time I constantly felt that my life should be easier now, because Jesus was in it! That was what I was taught. But change doesn’t come from osmosis – it comes from obedience.

I have always been rotten at being fake, but now it seemed like God Himself expected me to do it, so I gave it my all!! It was kind of a ‘fake it ’til you make it ’attitude. However, my poor behaviour was my own responsibility and I was lousy at changing me. It was years before I realised that there was far more power and grace released when Jesus died and rose again, than I had ever dreamed about! I’ve learnt that transformation comes when I obey what I am reading, whether I like it or not!  He died to give me that power too! Prior to that I thought if God loved you enough —.He would do it for you. You can just imagine the kind of conclusions I came to, when He didn’t!! Building a house involves work. We are going to have to build it brick by brick with His help and oversight, one step at a time.

I want to strenuously make the point that none of any of my fakey-fake attitude was the Lord’s fault! The teaching I had at that time made it sound like transformation was easy, you prayed, you woke up and you were different. You went to church regularly, prayed, read the bible, and … you were different. I did all those things and then… I learnt to hide my faults!  Transformation happens when we give a different response. The bible teaches us what kind of responses God is looking for, and the Holy Spirit has been sent to help us.

Father God is longing to get our attention. He isn’t going to use a trumpet or a donkey – He wants us to believe He really is that good and what Jesus did is complete. This means He points something out, and He shows us a way to overcome it, using HIS power – not our own strength. It is better, if we can’t be honest with ourselves or Him, to make that the subject of our prayers. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to be real with Him and honest with yourself. We can spend our Christian lives aiming our prayers at the leaves on the tree of our life, instead of going straight to the root of what is causing us to slowly die, spiritually, and lose hope.

In the end, I decided to only read the bible, instead of the hundreds of books in the Christian bookshop that made big promises, and delivered nothing but even more information! That stuff didn’t work for me. Reading other people’s books was like watching someone else make a sandwich, eating it, and expecting that I would get the same benefit they did! What I was aiming at was their revelation and Father God wanted to give me my own!!

The things I write here have been written on my own heart through my own interactions with the Lord. I know that He wants to talk with you too. But please don’t follow ME, follow JESUS. There’s been way too much piggy-backing going on in our faith. If I follow someone else’s ideas and thoughts, instead of Jesus, I will end up with their limitations! There is no quick fix to transformation, because we have unfortunately cultivated weeds in our lives. We will always need Him to identify them and help us to pull them out.

Our journey with Jesus is personal. I can share with you, you can share with me, but until both of us admit that ‘without Him we can do nothing!’ …  then we are building a house that cannot stand. Jesus doesn’t want CLONES – He wants you to be you, and me to be me. The Holy Spirit was very particular when He made us both. He put things inside you that no-one else has. Now the Lord wants to express Himself through you to others, simply because you know Him and you know you are dearly loved by Him.

We don’t need Bob the Builder – we have the Master Builder, the Standby, the Precious Holy Spirit Who knows the way He wants you and I to go. Yes, we will repent of sin – often. Yes, there are truths we cannot, and must not avoid, because we all need transformation. It comes as we realise how much He loves us. Meanwhile we owe each other compassion for our frailties and disobedience, not judgment. We need to read His book and then act on what we read. And we continually ask for His help. That’s how you build the house. Read Matthew 7:24-27. Bye 👋.

P 3071 Jump on in, the water is fine.

“Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralised—whoever. I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!” 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 MSG.

Perhaps the church has been so busy avoiding people who supposedly sin … like we don’t!  … because we are afraid of being contaminated(!)  When we live like this we are walking away from an extremely ripe field of grain. We don’t have to BE them, to talk to them. We simply choose to go with Love Himself, personified in us. Jesus goes before us, and He is with us, and He will remain with those people who need Him, long after we have left!

Speaking as a grey-haired old lady who has approached a bikie gang, plus, on another occasion, a couple of loose bikies strutting around a holiday town … I, too have had some conversations outside my comfort zone. On one occasion I felt like I was tackling two Goliaths!! But God spoke to me and He said: “If not you then WHO?”I’ve repeated the first story in this blog somewhere, in the past 8+ years, but the second one was pretty daunting.

We pulled up in our car right next to these two huge bikie guys leaning against a lamp post talking to each other. And, joy of joys …the Lord spoke to me and told me to speak to them. My dear hubby immediately knew what I was going to do … so he left the car too. I climbed out of the car and tottered over trying to look casual. Then I said: “Great bikes boys!” Well, they were, their bikes were immaculately kept. Meanwhile I had to look UP to speak to them both – they just kind of nodded and kept talking to each other, probably hoping I would go away.

I’ve learnt from my hubby that if you are going into the lion’s den you had better be prepared to stand up for Jesus right away or you will just peter out, and look like a goose. So I said: “God told me to tell you that Jesus loves you.” Jesus definitely loves them, but in those few seconds I wasn’t quite so sure how I felt!  – UM … maybe terrified? However THEY both looked at the ground. One of them kept on looking at the ground — it seemed like he was hoping that the ground would open up and swallow me.

Anyway the other guy stared into space but he interacted with me a bit, whilst I explained that I was probably his mother’s age and she might be concerned for his safety. Bikies like to hurt one another where I live. Then I said again that Jesus wanted them to know that He loved them, very much. The guy looking at the ground had a little tear roll down his cheek, and he kind of sniffed and wiped his nose with the back of his hand and nodded at the other one, who was staring anywhere but where I was. And then they started to move away. So did I! I jumped  back into our car so fast – you would have thought I was Gout-Gout!

My point? That was a God-appointment. In that kind of appointment the Lord reminds people He is real, by waving at them, through whatever we do and say. He calls to them, telling them He loves them. People usually react really well – but twice in 20 years we’ve been rejected. That’s pretty good odds wouldn’t you say? One guy nearly climbed over his desk to throw us out … so we left!  Another older lady was quite vocal about what was wrong with Christianity. So again, we quietly left. Of course we prayed for them!

God appointments are like that. They are times when we are set up by the Lord to be ourselves. We are not supposed to be an evangelist, or a prophet —you just be you. The person who loves Jesus. You are a witness – His witness. A witness tells what they know and what they have seen. Plus they answer questions if they are asked some. Half the time some overly enthusiastic people flood the poor schmuck they are talking to, by trying to stuff a life-time’s worth of witnessing Jesus at work in their lives into one encounter.

Remember, God will send someone after you’ve gone. You are just being salty that’s all. Here’s some don’ts I learnt from a full-time evangelist. After the encounter, don’t jump, laugh, dance, sing, and create a hullabaloo anywhere near the person who was happy to listen to you. They will know you are talking about them, just respectfully leave. Don’t overload them. They don’t need 35 scriptures, or 12 how to come to Jesus brochures.

Every time we are fake we are separating ourselves from the very people God asked us to speak to. We’ve all been saved by the very same Grace we are now offering them. I can only encourage anyone reading this to “jump on in the water is fine.” And if it goes wrong? “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming …” Easy peasy. Bye. 🤣

P 3058 A change is needed.

“I had to nurse you and feed you with “milk,” not with the solid food of more advanced teachings, because you weren’t ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready to be fed solid food, for you are living your lives dominated by the mind-set of the flesh. Ask yourselves: Is there jealousy among you? Do you compare yourselves with others? Do you quarrel like children and end up taking sides? If so, this proves that you are living your lives centred on yourselves, dominated by the mind-set of the flesh, and behaving like unbelievers.” 1 Corinthians 3:2-3.

You know, there’s a deeper place for Christians to live daily – simply because God’s GRACE is available to each one of us all the time. His Grace facilitates our new way to live. However, Grace can’t change a FAKE ME. By that I mean, who we are can be carefully hidden under layers of ‘pious sucking it up’ instead of true transformation. Real transformation means when somebody presses button “A” in our lives, we don’t explode anymore. OH for THAT day!!

In our society today it seems the land of harder and worse is looming up right in front of mankind. Sadly, most of the time, instead of listening to our own reactions, we make excuses for our behaviour and get furious at someone else. But because of what Jesus did for us, we no longer have to be ashamed to acknowledge where we personally went wrong.

A lot of our time in this life is wasted by pretending we are managing – when we are not. The best thing about sin is that we have an opportunity to be saved and transformed from it, when we acknowledge it! Every person on this planet has sin in common. Realising that, can lead us deeper into the Lord’s incredible Love, we must understand that despite our sinfulness, He will not turn any of us away. It is always our choice … we can live in the need for revenge, or inner peace. You know, babies always need to be looked after, adults have a life to live. Babies are not productive at all, they are consumers.

It would seem from these verses in Corinthians that the Apostle Paul knew some undernourished fat-babies in his life as well! However! “There IS NO condemnation for those who are IN Christ Jesus…!!” Acknowledgement of our own sin will lead us into a wider, broader place … where I can love you no matter what you did, because I’ve learnt hating you is just as bad as whatever you did to me! Comparison of big and little sins is killing us – and our fake identities are muddying the waters of this life. There are higher places for every single one of us to go. I tell myself: ‘Every time I confront these things in my life, I’m building my faith muscle. Every time I humble myself I am stepping into His Grace.’

So we must decide, and choose to move on from the stuff that has held us captive for most of our lives, and believe what the Lord Jesus said. It’s all part of the same faith. “It is for freedom that Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1. The slavery comes in when we refuse to acknowledge to ourselves, that we were all born broken! Accepting the never-ending, all-encompassing love of God is available to everyone, changes our perception of things that appear to be stuck. Transparency helps us. We cannot afford to walk around with our noses in the air looking at others thinking: ‘they are more broken than I am!’

Let me be clear – the Lord won’t physically stop us, we must learn, through experience, to use our faith in His truthfulness, to stop ourselves. That’s what our faith is for – we are to live this new life we have been given, using our faith that what the Lord said He did, He did! Acknowledging our sinfulness puts feelings in second place, and at the same time we are telling ourselves that no matter how things look, Jesus has got our troubles or difficulties and He’s THE penultimate Redeemer.

The door to that jail we lived in before we met Him – is now permanently open. There are no guards! They fell on their backs when He burst out of that grave! The enemy tries to keep all of us busy examining everyone else’s attitudes and actions for our entire lives. Unfortunately, if we put our faith down, and aim at excusing ourselves, we will continue to commit whatever sin we’ve been fighting that trips us up. Instead we must believe Jesus is telling the truth. He said He did it, so it is done. Now we repent and repair things wherever we need to, and move on.

Jesus said that while He was hanging on a cross in agony. “It. Is. Finished.” Every requirement for our new life is already in our account, it has been paid for, in full. Now we put aside the temptation to resent people, or to lie, to ourselves and others, or get angry and hate people. We simply go and do what Jesus would do. He came here to love people, so that’s what we do too! We are all pilgrims, we have not yet arrived: “but we press on!! …”

There is incredible freedom in not excusing yourself and facing up to reality. There were times Jesus physically went up a mountain to pray. Here’s my little theory … I think He did that because He needed the spiritual, physical and emotional respite from the stuff all around Him. He need to find true REST in His Father.  Prayer and reading the bible are our spiritual life-blood – they gives us rest from striving. Listen as if God Himself was speaking to you, personally. What we need to change is our belief that your sin is worse than mine! Bye. 👋

P 2757 Flowers ain’t fruit!

We have a large mango tree in our backyard, and it has grown heaps in the last couple of years. Now its taller than our house. However, last year there were hardly any flowers on it, and what was left were little nubs of potential fruit, that got blown off by some high winds. That large tree gave us about 12 mangoes. Boy were we disappointed. Especially after feeding it, watering it, and protecting the fruit from the birds of the air who think they have a right to eat anything and everything. Stupid noisy minas. Grrrr. 😖 Where was I again? Hah! Growing fruit … hmmm.

“BUT the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.”Galatians 5:22-23 TPT. Did you get that? The life and health of any tree is the reason we can produce good fruit. Our mango tree must have had a tummy ache last year or … it was a bad weather year for mangoes. Sadly we can’t use that excuse for spiritual fruit!

The thing is, this year I totally refuse to get excited about fruit any more, even though this year our tree is covered in mango flowers. So what happened? Where did my enthusiasm go? I learnt something. I learnt flowers ain’t fruit! Some fruit trees have masses of beautiful flowers everywhere, they smell so pretty … spring is in the air, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the bees are buzzing away around each little flower. and the whole idea, at that moment that there may be no fruit from that tree is far far away …

The Lord Jesus had that happen to Him once. He was hungry and went to a fig tree that should have had fruit on it but it had none. (Read Mark 11:12-25) So the Lord used that tree as an object lesson for the disciples. We should pay careful attention to that little story. I’ve heard people speak about it in sermons — they said that this bit means that, and that means this, and the tree is the other thing … on and on…  Do you know what I think? I think if our trees/lives have no fruit of the Spirit, then we better look hard at our tree and find out what’s ailing it!

Simply because fruit trees are meant to produce fruit. And we know that the Holy Spirit living within us will always want to produce His fruit. So what does no fruit mean? I think I’ll just leave you to think on that, I did. Long and hard!  You know we can comfort ourselves by the fact that our lives have produced pretty blossom flowers that smell so lovely – but! … Ya can’t eat the flowers! Well, you can … but I wouldn’t – there is not much nourishment there.

There are many people living around us today who are eager to take ‘a bite’ out of us, just to see what our fruit will taste like, how we will react. Think about it. Some clown cuts in front of you and your precious kids in your car, in traffic, and you have to slam on the brakes and tell the kids to hold on. What kind of reaction does that invoke in us? Do we say unprintable things and curse the idiot who did it? Or do we bless the young man – let’s be fair, it is often a young man with little sense, who thinks he is a racing car driver … So. Do we bless him with wisdom and common sense so he won’t kill himself or someone else? Hmmm. Probably not.

Moo-ving on … Some pretty young thing pushes in front of us in the coffee shop and turns and gives us a dazzling smile and she says; “you don’t mind do you? I’m in an awful rush.” And you stand there, smile back and say .. “of course not.” Meanwhile you are thinking: ‘You are not the only one with a busy day lovey!’ Or other things I will not mention… 🤬 And there we are, wearing a fake pasted-on smile. That’s not real fruit by the way, its wish-fruit. We just made plastic fruit. That stuff falls off the minute you shake the tree and it tastes like plastic be-ca-use … it’s … plastic!

The point is – fruit can’t be faked. It’s either real or it isn’t. And the faked stuff is inedible. So what conclusion can we come to? We need to ask ourselves what actually comes out when I am under pressure? That is what is actually INSIDE my tree – it seems I lost my connection to the sap that flows from Jesus along the vine. Now, I can’t blame you for that, because no matter whatever is inside me, the truth is I let it stay until it got good and rotten and expressive.

To bear good fruit we need to value the Holy Spirit and His ways and, as I said a minute ago, we can’t manufacture good fruit. Farmers grow fruit, and manufacturers churn out the plastic stuff! That’s why the bible says: “The fruit of the SPIRIT is …’ It’s His fruit in me, not mine. It is also what Jesus meant when He talked about abiding in the vine. Here’s the cruncher … without the sap of the Holy Spirit flowing through us, we can’t manufacture fruit at all … Our pretend, isn’t worth a hill of beans, and flowers ain’t fruit!

We gotta go to the tree, our own tree, and see what is stopping us from letting the sap of the Holy Spirit flow through us. We need to ask ourselves questions. What are we hanging onto that grieves the Holy Spirit? It doesn’t have to be too much TV etc. it could just be a lousy attitude that we won’t let go of! Honest repentance starts the fruit growing again, and watering our lives with the knowledge of His unconditional love for us, plus feeding ourselves on the bible by doing what it says – all that grows fruit. Christianity is not a club, it’s a lifestyle, and fruit takes time to grow. Let’s get rid of any blockages to fruitfulness with His help — be-cau-se… …flowers ain’t fruit, they are simply po-ten-tial.  Bye.👋

P 2675 Don’t let the lipstick/liposuction fool ya!

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 NASB.

My first thought when I read this scripture today was this: wouldn’t we all be better off, if we saw others like the Lord does?! What if we appreciated people’s hearts, more than the colour of their lipstick or the fact that they have no fat around their middle? I cannot believe our society vacuums away fat! YUCK!! Social media, movies, magazines, or even the news, all present a false view of this life. See that movie star? FAKE! The media lies to us and they get paid for it! The pretty, witty, fit, and powerful people are supposed stars, yet they have had more work done on them than a renovated broken-down house! Apparently, we enjoy being fooled by illusions. Sigh. You know, many pretty people have an awful lot of spak-filler plastered on.

Now, let’s STOP and look at SomeOne worthwhile. SomeOne truly beautiful… let’s look at Jesus the way Isaiah saw the Lord in Isaiah 53:1,2.“He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.”  Imagine that. Jesus didn’t actually need physical or scholarly attributes… yet people were attracted to Him like bees to honey. What was inside showed up on the outside. Hah! I’d like to get me some of that kind of surgery thank you Lord! Hmmm. Sometimes, when the spirit of nasty has grabbed me by the neck and I’m spewing unkind venom everywhere – I sure need some bad attitude liposuction!  Thank God for our Saviour!

Moving on … rather quickly…   that scripture from Samuel reminded me of another one: “So from now on we regard no one from a human point of view [according to worldly standards and values]. Though we have known Christ from a human point of view, now we no longer know Him in this way.”  2 Corinthians 5:16. Let me see if I can try to interpret that. We can’t know Jesus or anyone else, just with our brains. We are going to need open hungry hearts. More Lord!!

Why is mankind so obsessed with outward beauty, physical strength, and brain power? None of that stuff lasts. People go to the gym every single day and they work out ….even in their eighties!🙄… Well, that’s nine kinds of ridiculous. Fancy spending whatever time you have left on earth, lifting weights and dieting! How tragic to live out a life not actually comprehending the things that really matter. I can’t see Moses in a gym, can you? He was too busy getting his work-out doing what God said!

Meanwhile, I can tell you personally that old age is a great leveller. You simply can’t feel superior in your intellect anymore, because you often end up forgetting the end of the sentence right after you just started it! And some days it is all I can do to get around our house. Since I decided to try to fly down the stairs, instead of just plain walking, one of my knees is out of sync with the other one. I could go on … but it would bore you to death … and I am definitely not a pretty person … so I can’t get away with that!

But, thanks to Jesus, inside me, right here, right now, I have a spiritual well that sustains me even when my body complains and my brain seizes up! BTW, I don’t believe in mirrors. My problem is that I keep looking for the 19year old I once was, in them. I’m definitely going to be disappointed on that one! A mirror cannot tell you who you are – God’s Word is the only mirror that is accurate. Praise God for a mirror that shows our true selves – and then it points to the solution!

Oh Jesus is so incredibly beautiful. He’s the One Who gladly laid down His life for His friends … that’s you and me. He has given all of us the greatest love this world will ever know. And He actually chose to do that so that for everyone – including those who are obsessed with how they look. HE LOVES them for free. The Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit are our very Best Friends, our personal cheer-squad, and our life-coach on the road to eternity. We are sooo rich!!

The thing that makes this life wonderful isn’t what we have, or look like, or how smart we are — it’s what we can freely give away to others. Envy, disappointment, and causing others to feel like they are a waste of space – those things are terrible gifts to give someone else. LOVE enriches us all. But comparison and competition highlight lack and we live this life, the only one we will get, feeling deprived.

“Don’t be fooled by their outward appearance … the LORD looks at the heart.”  Skip the fancy red lipstick, the 100 one-handed push-ups … and do more bible study instead. Trust me, you will enjoy that life more. Why should any of us make some plastic surgeon/fitness trainer/make-up artist even richer? Bye. 👋

PS Today is our Anniversary. 37 years of being married to the man of my dreams!🎈🎈💕

P 2598 No fake smiles please!

My dear hubby loves the Emoji movie, especially that over-the-top female smiley face that blinds people with its toothy grin. He thinks she is hilarious. You know, that face is actually pasted on – it’s stuck. In other words that emoji has been carefully drawn to pretend to be something it isn’t.  So when bad things happen, that smiley emoji isn’t being REAL — which is just like a whole lot of Christians. Bad things happen and they paste on a smile but inside they feel God, and everyone else, has let them down.

Most people in this world know FAKE attitudes a mile off. It is so much better to be your real self and repent for stinky attitudes, than it is to hide who you are. Now if you happen to be a grump … then the answer is to be transformed. 😂 The bible covers that! Please note: transformation is not instant. It’s repetitive… it’s re-pet-it- ive … it’s actually quite repetitive! So now we spend our days learning to lean. Getting stuff right is no longer our goal, leaning on Him is!

If we are not careful we can make living for Jesus … into a future goal. We can live this life hoping that if we fake it we will eventually make it. Yielding, surrender, dying to self – these are all key words.  Otherwise transformation becomes something we work hard towards achieving, but we never seem to arrive!  The bible says we need to be living for Him every single day.

Almighty God wants us to draw on His strength all the time, using our faith. Faith grows when you use it! So we exchange His beauty for our ashes. His joy for our mourning etc. We are human and we run out quite quickly — but Jesus is rich in these things ! He will give us what we need as we live a life of total dependence. The Lord is not fooled by our positive, Sunday morning smiley faces.

We could see miracles every single day if we stop trying to be what God already made us and learn to yield to and trust in Him! Listening to yourself being kind to someone, when you wanted to smite them mightily a minute ago is a miracle! Success is no longer our goal – because we know can’t do anything without Him and we don’t want to be without Him.“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

We need to be changed inside, and honesty matters.  We can’t! … But He already did it for us. Some of our nice attitudes are barely skin deep — so when they are provoked they end up coming out. The Lord is not looking for perfection … Jesus already nailed that, and then He generously gave it to us – for free. Ask yourself this: why would Almighty God – Who loves us – want us to live our lives pretending to be something we are not? But oh! How He LOVES a truly transformed heart and life. Then when someone else hurts us, we feel worse for them than we do for ourselves.

I know some transformed people. They know they can’t do anything without Him, but they yield in obedience to what the bible says daily, so they can change the way that they live. They are not perfected. Not at all! But they enjoy being close to Him, and they don’t want to give that up for living a shallow life that has no substance. Things stay shallow when we stop living by our faith.  We must learn that we are not called to exhaust our OWN patience/love/joy/peace,  first — only to find that we have run out! Here’s a hot tip, let go of your pride and GIVE UP RIGHT AWAY and fall into His everlasting arms. He will supply that need.

My point is, learn to pray “Help help” early! We cannot afford to wait until we are overwrought and exhausted because we’ve been wrangling a problem in the natural. I pray a surrender prayer all the time now. I remind the Lord that I won’t be able to  manage anything at all without Him. I do that at the beginning of the day and I repeat it when I find myself pasting on a fake smile. I could care less about looking incompetent, or inefficient. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy seeing Him active in my life. I feel Him help me to go further than I ever could in my own strength. I know I can’t meet Christ’s standard, what He did was perfect. So I start with surrender and I don’t move from there.

We have all developed coping mechanisms over the course of our lives and when we get saved, we carry those coping mechanisms over into our faith. Then when we read in the bible and see what we are supposed to look like, who we are meant to be, we increase the pressure on ourselves to be like that. Unfortunately, when we fail in our own efforts – we feel we are letting Jesus down. And if we do happen to succeed, then WE GET PROUD.

All that leads to a level of inadvertent deception, and a lack of transparency that prevents intimacy. It stops Christians from becoming all we can be in Christ. It also leads to a form of religion with no power in it. We need to learn to live our lives dependent upon Him, using our God-given faith instead of striving to reach an unattainable goal. We cannot make ourselves perfect. He has already accepted us.  No more fakey fake smiles. Learn to lean on Him. 👋

P 2482 Avoid self-deception like the plague!

“Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception.So always let His Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life! If you listen to the Word and don’t live out the message you hear, you become like the person who looks in the mirror of the Word to discover the reflection of his face in the beginning. You perceive how God sees you in the mirror of the Word, but then you go out and forget your divine origin.” James 1:22-24 TPT.

Because it is a New Year, this is one of the times, we hopefully like to revise our thinking. It is incredibly easy within this honour system the Lord has given us, to deceive ourselves. The only clue we have that we are doing that is the absence of the Holy Spirit. The absence of His Presence means we have fallen out of harmony with Him and He has simply quietly gone away. He’s incredibly gentle and humble, and He likes to remain unseen, and so it is up to each one of us to honour Him by taking what He wrote in His book, seriously.

I make it my priority to pay attention to His way of life – the stuff written in His book – plus the things He says to me  personally… and they are also in the book! I would rather look like a goose, than accidentally send Him away. Sadly, my humanity still gets in the way regularly – I wander off into judgment. Watching the NEWS is one of my downfalls. I start having opinions!! And if you pick on one of my kids I will still love you but … you won’t be my best friend quickly! You can see that I am not perfected in this area …. but like the scripture in my blog title says …I press on…  … I press on because Jesus is my only hope. I simply do not know how people manage without Him!

Reading the bible and agreeing with what it says, is just the beginning of change. The way to read this book is to check yourself against every single line and then ask the Lord, “Do I do this?” And if something pops into your head, then you follow it up. When it comes to forgiveness, I just repent – Meh! It won’t kill me!! Actually, hilariously, 😂 it will! … But in a good way. Teehee. If we are continually hurting others, we are not abounding in love. It is way too easy to write off someone else’s pain as their problem … but if you have contributed, then how hard is it to take what you did seriously enough to ask for their prayers and help, and the Lord’s help? That’s what humility looks like.

Unfortunately, some forms of humility can be imitated, but in our heart of hearts we really do know when we are feigning something … it simply doesn’t resonate, and the matter keeps on coming up! Then the only person you are fooling is yourself. To me, obeying what the bible says and paying particular attention to what Jesus taught us, is my way of presenting my body as a living sacrifice. That’s my go-to method of worship at all times. Anyone can sing and wave their arms about, but unless our hearts are engaged in the process of renewing our minds and actions, you can go away from worship the same way you went in.

Even when I actually don’t want to obey, I still go to the Lord and tell Him that I know that my attitude is wrong, and I desperately need His help to obey Him. Then I go and do whatever it is I don’t want to do … using my faith. I believe all this nice-ey nice-ey pretend stuff is hobbling the Body of Christ. We can all put on a good show, for a couple of hours on Sunday …but what is actually happening inside? If hearing someone’s name makes me want to punch them on the nose, then I haven’t hit real repentance yet!! Even worse still –  I definitely haven’t hit His kind of love! I can give my attitude a fancy name, or hide behind my hurt …or I can confess my fault and face my flaws – knowing that the Lord will always love me. That’s a done deal.

Hubby sent me this verse this morning – he didn’t know what I was planning to write about: “I consider Your Word to be my greatest treasure, and I treasure it in my heart to keep me from committing sin’s treason against You.” Psalms 119:11 TPT. The WAY I value His word dictates the measure of love I have for Him. If I lightly dismiss it, and then excuse myself, because I think I can’t help it … then I am resisting the Holy Spirit. I have stopped operating in faith and gone back into feelings. It means I have forgotten what I saw about myself when I read it. The more I dismiss His word, the harder my heart gets against what He wants. It also hardens my heart against others at the same time.

Reading without doing, is self-deception, and that attitude is one of the hardest things in Christianity to get rid of. Everybody else thinks you are Mr or Mrs Nice-guy but inside you are a fake pile of dirty stinking old rags. We need to remember that SIN is the one thing we all have in common! Pretending we are perfect, is self-deception. Not dealing with myself over whatever it is is just sheer laziness! Jesus provided a WAY. I exhort everyone reading today, to pay real attention to the mirror of the Word, it is the only way forward.👋🏻

P 2401 It’s good for us, but sometimes we fight against it.

“In this all-out match against sin, others have suffered far worse than you, to say nothing of what Jesus went through—all that bloodshed! So don’t feel sorry for yourselves. Or have you forgotten how good parents treat children, and that God regards you as His children? My dear child, don’t shrug off God’s discipline, but don’t be crushed by it either. It’s the child He loves that He disciplines; the child He embraces, He also corrects.God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children.

This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best. At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off big-time, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.” Hebrews 12:4-11 MSG

… So that thing we’ve learned to love/hate, isn’t actually … tying our shoes … it’s Father God’s discipline! This scripture in Hebrews is food for thought. I really like the way the Message bible puts it … it is so clear and comforting. These verses reinforce that the difficult stuff that happens to us isn’t punishment – it’s training. Ya might want to sit and think about that thing that has been driving you batty. Maybe you are not being persecuted or driven nuts by someone else. Maybe it is part of growing up in God!

I can still remember teaching my children when they were little how to tie their shoes, over and over again. I know, nobody does that anymore because we all live in the land of velcro! But back in the ark, it was expected that by the time your little darling landed in kindergarten – he or she would have learnt how to tie their own shoes … as well as take themselves to the toilet. Shoe tying tried my patience heaps.

You know, sometimes I wish I could go back to those days for a do-over? It is a real shame how much easier it is to develop patience, and long-suffering, when you aren’t under pressure to run out of the door and deliver three kids to kindy or school. Especially if you are on foot.  Maybe one of your kids is a Dilly Daydream with their nose in a book, and they wouldn’t hurry if they were chased by a shark!

As I’ve gotten older, patience has become a bit more accessible to me. I’m much slower now, so I have had to learn to be patient with myself! Back then? Not-so-much. Sigh. I can remember recently talking with my now grown-up son many years later, discussing parenting styles. He was being very kind to me considering how little I knew about what I was doing back then!

A-n-y-way, my son laughingly made this remark about a question I asked him when I was fed up and he was younger and being naughty. I used to say: “Do you want a smack??” His comment was: “Honestly Mum, can you imagine any sane kid saying yes to that question??”… “Oh, yes please, Mum I’d love one!?” 😂 I’m so blessed that we’ve been able to laugh over the some of the stupid stuff I did and said. He has kids of his own so now there’s a lot of understanding between us.

I just want to assure you if you have little kids at your house, hold on … they will grow like weeds and then one day sooner than you think, they will be gone. However, teaching them stuff they are going to need later on in life is extremely difficult, because not every kid is compliant … the little darlings. That means that parenting is not a whole lot of fun. Meanwhile, I am soooo totally over those ads with fake happy families in them. The idea that 4-5 people of various ages, are all outrageously happy at the same time, just because you fed them some fancy chicken, or pizza, is lunacy. Advertising is lying for profit!

Right now, I want to pause and just try to get my mind around how patient the Lord is with all of us. Some things in my life have come up over and over again, and I promise myself each time that I won’t do this or that … but then provocation happens, or it’s a bad day and I fail. I am so grateful to Him. I need to be reminded over and over again that the Holy Spirit is my teacher, and He is incredibly patient with me. He won’t withdraw His love and approval, ever.

Some days I just can’t seem to get my heart and mind around the fact that trouble in my life is not punishment.

The Holy Spirit will not fail any of us … because He cannot fail. I’m praying I will stop fighting against His wise counsel because I know His discipline is good for me. Bye … 👋🏻
