P 2365 We need to pray for the veil of our ignorance taken away.

“And I pray that He would unveil WITHIN YOU the unlimited riches of His glory and favour until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with His divine might and explosive power. Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of His love will become the very source and root of your life.

Then you will be empowered to discover what every holy one experiences—the great magnitude of the astonishing love of Christ in all its dimensions. How deeply intimate and far-reaching is His love! How enduring and inclusive it is! Endless love beyond measurement that transcends our understanding—this extravagant love pours into you until you are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God!” Ephesians 3:16-19 TPT

Verses like these ones are kind of a mouthful, and if we don’t stop and pray and WAIT for Him to open our eyes – we can easily end up hearing …blah blah blah blah blah …. ……’constantly using your faith’ … ‘transcends our understanding” Those phrases can unfortunately easily translate into – I must try harder!!

Trying isn’t in it. Especially when the veil comes off and you realise Jesus Christ already did all the work. We simply need to keep walking alongside Him … like the disciples did. We give up our agendas and dreams for His sake because He died for our sake. It’s our choice. Will our focus be on ‘our day’ or ‘the day Christ gave us!’ Those 12 disciples in the Gospels did nothing to merit the honour of walking with Jesus! They were going about their daily business, when the very real Presence of God showed up in the Person of Christ.

But, sadly we sometimes try to fit our faith in around our already established ordinary lives. OUR LIVES ARE NOT MEANT TO BE ORDINARY. Jesus died to give us HIS LIFE IN US. However, life itself can quickly overwhelm us and we end up praying quick prayers at the beginning of the day, and tired half-asleep ones at the end.  And eventually our failure rate is bigger than our success rate, and we coast along not sure about what we believe, and if it works or not but well-meaning people keep telling us we are missing the mark. WE CANNOT MISS THE MARK – CHRIST BECAME A MAN TO HIT THAT MARK FOR US.

We were not reborn to FAIL. We were reborn to bring His kingdom into our ordinary everyday humdrum lives. We need that veil removed so we can see and comprehend everything Christ already did for us. satan will fight you over that veil. But we have the power now to win! Simply ask the Lord to show you what He wants you to do with your day. Don’t promise Him tomorrow, or Monday, give Him today. And keep reminding Him, (not because HE forgets but because WE need the reminder,) that today is about Him, His kingdom. Tell Him you are willing to listen to what He wants done. Then live listening for what He says next, AND DO IT.

We will actively have to choose to look for His way. The real secret to walking with Christ minute by minute is choosing to live in love. Be like a plant that has put its roots down deeply into His love and then make a quality decision to give it away at any opportunity, whether the other person deserves it or not. Just keep giving it away. Jesus died to give us His life, now we give Him ours, by choosing to live this life as a life of love toward others. That’s how you spread the kingdom of God that is in you.

We, you and I, already HAVE everything we need for this kind of life! Listen to this: “Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has ALREADY been deposited in us by His divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing Him Who has called us by name and invited us to come to Him through a glorious manifestation of His goodness.”  2 Peter 1:3.

All this stuff in His book, is in a heavenly bank account with our name on it. We just gotta use our faith and go to that bank and make faith withdrawals. Our faith is not meant to be about having a new car, or house or holiday or staying safe when we travel – that faith was deposited in us so we can live a brand new life that pleases the Father. The Son’s blood now covers our lives so we can walk with Him unafraid.

That veil produces the rumour that a Spirit-filled well-lived life for Jesus, is only for some people. It is for all of us. This is something we have to value so much we go after it deliberately for ourselves. And that means we will end up taking risks – using our faith to obey what Christ said, and pouring out His unmerited love on other people.  👋🏻

P 2339 Christians have a different normal, it is not ‘of’ this world.

My intention is to put an exclamation mark on what I wrote yesterday. Luke 17:26-33:“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

“It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.  Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it. “

Yesterday, I spoke about this scripture briefly and I felt the Lord tell me to go back, and look at it further. What He said to me was this: “Did you see that?” Of course I hadn’t. I can’t see this kind of stuff until He helps me by opening my eye to what He’s thinking.

He said this: “THEIR LIVES were going on from day to day NORMALLY, when the sky literally fell for Noah and his family, and Lot and Co!” Then the Holy Spirit asked me this question – “What do people do when their lives are violently interrupted?”

My answer for myself was I probably hit despair and then panic! So, I asked for His help and I began think about what human beings see as ‘normal.’ Those things we sometimes valiantly seek after, are actually poor preparation for the extraordinary situations that really do occur in this life. Yet I can see that most people strive, and pay a great deal of their attention to the status quo, trying hard to fit in – or find it – and live in it. Fitting into what this world calls normal.

It is almost as if superstitiously, we are scared of and avoid thinking about bad things and contemplating their existence.  But they actually happen anyway … without our permission. It seems to me that as difficulties occur regularly, it is careless not to prepare our hearts, with practice, by meditating on what HE says and renewing our minds. We need a substantial spiritual root system to give us severe storm strength. We get that from our confidence in HIM, using our faith, and applying His Word. He is always ready to help us.

We buy insurance for our cars, houses, lives, and the future etc. and yet we remain vastly ignorant or experienced with, those things that are eternal. Those things that cannot be moved or shaken, because their roots are in our Almighty Immovable, ever-present God, Maker of heaven and earth. We need a deep confidence and experience with His involvement in our lives. We need to know personally, first-hand what He thinks.

Otherwise we end up gauging His care for us, by answered, or seemingly not-answered prayer!  Normal is never our aim – ushering His kingdom into our current situation and surroundings is! To do that we need to be very personally well acquainted with what our King did, or will do, no matter what else is going on.  And when we are hard pressed we need to learn to lean on Him. Always remembering that – His kingdom gives out of poverty, it loves from lack, it tenderly engages others despite personal feelings and proclivities.

Secondly we need to stop aligning ourselves with who this world says we are meant to be, and allow Him, and trust Him to take us step by step into our eternal destiny.  He knows the way through … anything! As it says in Psalm 23 we will be led by the Shepherd through the valley of the shadow of death. In order to be properly led, we need to know and trust the leader.

Noah and Lot were confronted with horrendously difficult circumstances, BUT their societies were not unlike ours. Yet they each had a relationship with God to fall back on. What we need to fall back on to sustain us through trials is our personal irrefutable knowledge of Him. Otherwise we will let this world’s scenarios be painted on our hearts, and default into fear.  We must see difficult things as opportunities to deepen our faith. Psalm 34:19 says: “Disciples so often get into trouble;  still, God is there every time.” 👋🏻

P 2330 Using our faith.

“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble.” Psalms 59:16 NKJV.

I am a great believer in using the scriptures like a medical prescription. Just follow the instructions. Let me explain. If it says ‘sing’ then … sing! Sing a song or hymn that you already know, that reminds you of the Lord’s protection. Like – “What a mighty God we serve!” Doing that will need you to use your faith to obey what it says. Just don’t expect to always feel like it.

It is hard to do, if you haven’t ever done it before. Only Julie Andrews has the wherewithal to burst into song in the middle of a Swiss meadow – and what she did was from a musical score and it was choreographed! Look, I know it feels funny, strange – it feels funny when I do it too. OK. Get over that bit … and just move on. Pick a quiet, solitary place and have at it! Now let’s move along to harder things that will stretch our faith even more … (Well YAY!!)

Personally, I would just sing what it says. I make up the notes. Why? Well, the words are already, like … already there (!), and it actually uses even more faith to allow yourself to make up music or random notes! Very few of us are musical composers. So, again, we will be taking a risk and could feel like a goose, but, the thing is, we will end up TRYING. Father God could not care tuppence about whether we are tuneful or not – He has angelic choirs … remember? Croak away – He’s looking at your heart anyway!

Faith is funny stuff, if you don’t use it, you will very quickly lose sight of what it looks like and end up doing nothing, or worse, you will have to continually rely upon someone else’s faith when a crisis comes. Remember Jesus said to His disciples, Luke 8:25:  “Where is your faith?”…”  We can only piggy-back on someone else’s faith for so long.  Let’s decide to learn how to use our own. Moving on, I’ve used the tune of Three Blind Mice many times to get me started. After a while you stop being self-conscious and become HIM-conscious, because it is not about us!

Using our faith involves not knowing, and trying anyway. Cos if we already know it works, then it is not faith. Faith involves st-re-t-ch-ing. It has substance because we are doing something that can actually be seen. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. What we actually DO puts our faith on display … doing nothing because we might get embarrassed, is about pride.

Here is some more stretchy stuff. If you have the gift of tongues then that can also help with using your faith. Singing in tongues takes heaps of faith, because that’s not just music, but words you may not have even heard before as well. That uses heaps of faith. Fix your heart on the words of the Psalm and off you go. Remember tongues is not about talking to people – it is about talking to God with our head out of the way. It builds up faith. IT EDIFIES US. Now there’s a plus!

Lastly if you play an instrument, then use that and play away. Forget about being accurate with the notes and let your heart flow through the instrument. This is all about focus. If we focus on how we feel, we will stop too easily. if we focus on how good, perfect, loving, and faithful, He is, and how much He loves us – then this life’s superficialities fall away. Faith is the language of heaven down here on earth. (We won’t need faith up there!)

Finally, because faith does not rely upon what we feel, it encourages us. It looks beyond the circumstances and speaks the things that are not, into being. We start acting like His kids. No matter what time of the day or night it was, back then, you never  saw Jesus saying to somebody who needed Him – “Could you come back tomorrow? I’ve used up all my faith for today – I fed 5,000 people, not to mention all the sick people who came to Me and needing healing. I gave My disciples three parables about sowing and reaping and I’m all out. I’ll be going up the mountain to pray tonight so come back tomorrow, I can accommodate your request then.” 😳

We all know that didn’t happen, Jesus used His faith while hanging on the cross to save someone. HE WAS KIND OF BUSY AT THE TIME! Faith can be a mustard seed that obeys what the bible says, and we can stir up our faith just by singing! 👋🏻

P 2324 Embrace whatever He is doing.

Anybody my age will tell you that God is not currently doing stuff the way He did it before. “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19. Time and time again I have heard this scripture used over the past 50 years to fulfil various agendas.  Eventually I came to a conclusion of my own …

…God is ALWAYS doing a new thing. You might want to sit and think about that one. 🧐 And what’s more, He thinks so differently than we do, we need to be regularly exhorted to even catch a glimpse of what He is doing. Lemme tell you what I have noticed … individuals, church groups, denominations … love to take what is already in the bible to prove that what they think and what they are doing … is right. They use the bible to justify their actions and activities. Maybe we need to ask ourselves what is more important – being right, looking good, or following Christ.

I think we do these kind of things because we want to be saved … plus … comfortable. We start well –  but if we are not alert then the things that thrust us forward will turn into a lullaby. Instead we will find a nice spiritual little groove and sit in it. The biggest problem with that attitude is that it precludes change. And the Christian life is predicated on change and development. So getting comfy is not in it!

1 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”Change is part of our mandate from God Himself. You can call it transformation if that floats your boat, but predictability is not our friend. Growth is. Spiritual development is normal … and by that I mean we need less and less fame and publicity … and more servant-hearted humility. We are here to make HIS NAME FAMOUS not ours.

Sadly, because hubby and I have travelled around so much we have discovered a whole generation who do not have a clue about Who Jesus Christ is – they barely even know His Name … except perhaps as an expletive. Shame on us! We have failed in our primary mandate to go and make disciples. Not FANS, BTW. Fans are whimsical and fickle.

Today the Good News lies dormant behind our programs. The ones that are formulated to encourage people into giving their lives to Christ, just so we can soothe our consciences with numbers. Conversely, we have so many ‘getting-ready-to-go-to-spread-the-gospel-programs it takes an army to train people … but few actually GO.

We have cast aside the devotion and wisdom and service of so many saints who have gone home before us… in favour of marketing. We’ve totally forgotten how much Almighty God can do with just twelve devoted men! We have been saved to be changed, and we have been saved to serve Him and others. Its a done deal, accessed by active faith.

If even one fifth off this current world’s Christian population took Matthew 28:19-2 seriously: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” … imagine the result! Instead we’ve taught people that laying down their lives for the One Who died for them is an optional extra, only for those people who have a ‘calling.’ The rest of us can enjoy this life, go to church, tithe if we can afford it, and expect Almighty God to keep “adding all these things unto us!”

No wonder the world does not take us seriously, we don’t seem to take ourselves seriously. Love, of the die-for-others-kind, has taken a back seat to marketing. Here’s a huge clue for any church builders out there … Jesus Christ had no trouble attracting a crowd – the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. If you want to see people truly repent then carry His Presence. Conviction will fall like rain. 👋🏻

I pray …“That according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”Amen.

P 2312 As He was in this world so are we.

The most important question we can ever ask ourselves is this – WHAT DOES LOVE LOOK LIKE TO GOD? The bible clearly defines what His love looks like to mankind, but how does the Lord God, Maker of heaven and earth, define love – the love that flows from US to Him?

Jesus said in Matthew 22:35-37 “ One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” That original commandment was given by God Himself to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 6… sadly, in 6,000 years they hadn’t gotten very far had they? Have we?

Our daily question needs to be: “Holy Spirit how can I do that? How can I love God truthfully with all of me?” Many people might answer this question like this: “by loving each other, by serving Him, by reading the bible, through worship, praise, prayer and fasting.” All of these things are great. Do them with the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance! However Jesus Himself said in John 14:15-31 GNT – “If you love me, you will  obey My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, Who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God.’”

It is just like the Lord Jesus to ask a question and give us the answer … all in the same sentence. To truly LOVE GOD – WE NEED HELP! We need the One Jesus specifically sent back to earth to help us. With the Holy Spirit’s help, obedience to His commandments is the way we show God we love Him. When God’s very special, One-of-a-kind-Son came here from heaven, that’s what He did. Christ modelled that kind of obedience all the way through His life, and on through death, into resurrection life.

We are living after the time that Jesus first breathed on His disciples, and told them to receive the Holy Spirit. And then they went out and obeyed Him, and did what He did and saw the same results. Here’s food for thought – Jesus breathed on Judas! Judas did this stuff too, even while he was pinching money from the common purse! We must stop thinking that the people Who have miraculous gifts are somehow holy. Holiness comes from GOD Himself so we need to learn to let Him flow through us, using our faith. His presence in us, with us, and through us, as we obey Him, will do the changing.

The gifted ones among us were given something from HIM – they simply had the faith to pick up their God-given gifts! That’s God’s glory healing someone, not Brother Everybody-knows-my-name. That guy can’t heal a banana without the Holy Spirit’s help! So let’s quickly look at Stephen… who waited tables … he had the gift of helps. “Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.” Acts 6:8.

That’s the key to who Stephen was right there, he was – ‘full of Grace!’ How do you get this Grace? You live your life openly and honestly, acknowledging your faults and flaws, repenting, fixing things, and receive His forgiveness —and then you give that away. “…freely you have received, freely GIVE!” If Jesus Himself could do nothing without the Holy Spirit – then without Him WE are sunk. But the other side of that coin means if Christ lived that way as a man, then so can we.

What we all need, what we must cry out for – is what occurred in ACTS 2 … after the Holy Spirit came to stay there were only DEAD MEN WALKING in the church. His Presence changed them – they valued His Presence above all else. The Body of Christ needs to be changed – and we’d all better get a wriggle on too!

There were no schizophrenic Christians back then … people with one foot in this world and one foot in the next. They surrendered everything for His sake. Before Pentecost, they were all over the place, but they came out of that encounter with the Holy Spirit resurrected. Their old man, their old way of life was DEAD. Paul died on the road to Damascus, the resurrected new man went on from there.

Our struggle in this life is to die daily …one decision at a time. It’s a choice and Christ died to give us the freedom to make that choice. Together we must learn to constantly rely upon the Holy Spirit.  Time to wake up church and chase after your destiny. “…as He was in this world SO ARE WE!“ 👋🏻

P 2298 The little foxes.

Song of Solomon 2:15  “Catch the foxes for us, The little foxes that spoil and ruin the vineyards [of love], While our vineyards are in blossom.” There are times when our love for the Lord is bright and burning hot with passion – and there are other times when it seems this life is full of surprises — and — none of them are good!

In my mind, these are situations that Solomon describes here, and they can come upon us unexpectedly.  Just when you start to think that your spiritual life is turning a corner – wham! Especially when you seem to be getting the hang of walking with the LORD, and understanding His ways. Now here’s a good time to remember “…pride goes before a fall..” !!!  I’ve fallen on my head at this place, many MANY times and probably will again, unless the Holy Spirit helps me. AGAIN!!

When stuff piles on top of us, and life seems relentlessly overwhelming, and way past our ability to cope with it, this is like the best prayer ever. Song of Solomon 2:17a “… Return quickly, my Beloved,…” Jesus is described in Song of Songs as the Chief Shepherd, the Bridegroom, and a gazelle, a mighty deer Who can overcome any obstacle to get to His beloved. He has feet that can go anywhere, just like a stag can! Call out to HIM!  Then wait. Do nothing, just wait to be rescued. BUT at the same time – don’t keep rehearsing other people’s sins against you … take those thoughts captive.

These little foxes invade our vineyard when there is a potential harvest. There are blossoms on the vine… that means … fruit is coming! These circumstances, our difficulties, etc. are here to spoil and steal our fruit!  These things are attacking us so they ruin spiritual fruit before it can even form. The Holy Spirit’s potential to produce fruit in us, is under threat from things we have allowed, or indulged in, or tolerated in our past – or just plain enemy attack..

The beauty of this passage is that the bride knows Who to call out to, for help. She knows her Beloved is stronger, more mighty and wiser than the foxes that have come to steal their future potential harvest from them. Sometimes we can race about spraying this and protecting that, when what we really need to do is call out for help to the One who can defeat anything. The Bible says so. Jesus Christ beat death, little foxes are nothing to be concerned about.

But it will still be a battle, simply because we have invested in those things that these foxes stir up. Things like our own self-pity, anger, hatred, bitterness, resentment, and our own self-justification. And this battle can draw blood. It’s going to hurt, because we’ve invested in these things in our past. Start with repentance, and then fight to protect that hard- won fruit you have.

Yes our current circumstances maybe dire and difficult and cringeworthy but however they look – the reality is: “… greater is He that is IN ME than he that is in this world.” We don’t just get to say that or think it, we actually have to live it out minute by minute, battling with our own imaginations, feelings, thoughts …until every single thought obeys CHRIST.

These pesky foxes can be chased off. The Holy Spirit in you, with you, is the winner. However He won’t do it FOR YOU because we all need these skirmishes to develop battle readiness. We cannot allow our enemy to thwart God’s processes by giving in to stuff that we have authority over. Jesus gave us authority! Like I’ve said before: “…having done all, we stand!” And then we keep on standing because our Shepherd/Bridegroom/Mighty Stag is coming and there aint nothin’ gunna stop Him!

Lastly, Jesus said this to His disciples: “I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]”  ←This is our task and aim — to take away the ground in our lives that we have given over to our enemy — whether accidentally or on purpose. Now we can fight satan for the lives of the people around us and WIN.  It is time to eliminate those foxes. HE WILL HELP US. 🙌

P 2284 The undiscovered Person.

Our greatest quest in this new life of learning love is to know the Author of Love intimately. Sometimes, we can focus too much on what we can gain from Him and not enough on Who He is. He is the elusive, but always present, playful Father that some of us always wish we had had IRL.

We can read the bible with a serious tone of mind or we can read it looking for the God Who has a twinkle in His eye and loves to walk and talk with the man and the woman He made, in the cool of the evening. I think that if we think God is no fun, we are seriously mistaken.

Right now I’m thinking about Jesus and all the times that His pure theology bumped into the disciples’ squirrelled up theology. He sends them out two by two tells, them to take nothing with them – imagine doing that that with a missionary (!) – tells them to heal the sick and raise the dead, and on the strength of His word, they did it. And oh happy day, it worked!

They came back with a great report  only to fall in the hole of exclusivity, comparison and revenge shortly thereafter. I believe these events were fuelled by His power, because these men were obedient to what Jesus told them to do. And I think obedience carries a lot of weight with God. BUT …the time was coming when these men were to be filled with the very power and life of the precious Holy Spirit, the One Who raises us all from the dead. And they had a heart transplant … on the spot! Hard heart out – soft heart in!

That doesn’t mean they still didn’t make mistakes, they were still human, but the Holy Spirit’s presence became so vital, so important to these men that they knew that without Him they were nothing, but with Him, anything was possible.

I love the playfulness of God, in His encounters with mankind. In Acts, Eutychus is so bored by Paul’s sermon … pause and think on that … that he fell out of the window, bored into sleep, stone dead, and Paul had to go downstairs to raise him up again! Hopefully, the brief trip to heaven changed him so he wasn’t bored anymore! There would be a whole lot of dead bored people in our churches if we applied that particular scripture today. 😂

What about Peter, who was so passionately outspoken, he was beaten and thrown in jail. And this mighty man of God, full of paste and flour, could not believe that the angel standing in front of him was setting him free! He thought he was dreaming. And back where everyone was fervently praying for his release, when he banged on the door – those guys were so filled with faith they thought he was a ghost!

These people who followed the Lord and His instructions all of the days of their lives were so changed by their walk with the Person of the Holy Spirit, that they didn’t only meet the Him, they chose every opportunity to know His ways. I believe the Holy Spirit is hidden from us for a reason. His insight, wisdom and love offer us a doorway into a different way to see this life.

When Paul met Him, He knocked him to the ground, blind. Suddenly this man’s outward condition mirrored his inward one. Paul was full of religious zeal and fervour. Ripe and ready to kill more Christians, when an encounter with the Ever-Living One bashed the wind out of his sails. Suddenly, this man who knew the law so brilliantly, is following a Voice. That happy encounter instantly showed him the difference between theory and REALITY. He saw everything he had been zealously following, in a totally different light.

That’s my prayer for anyone who reads this blog, that God would blow away all our neatly constructed boxes and introduce us to His wider, ever-expanding, always delightful kingdom, and blow our puny minds, so that we are forever changed. I think my voice on this blog is one of so many all over the world. There are thousands of men, women and children that the Lord has working for Him. They push on the edges of our boxes, and He stands playfully right there – at the very edge of where that box used to be, and says, “Come and follow Me, I will make you fishers of men.”

Abram followed God’s leading to a Promised Land. That journey totally changed his life, his family, his name, and his future – I pray that the Holy Spirit will so impact every single person who reads here that they will also begin a journey to discover Who He is and what He has in store for each one of us. This undiscovered Person IS OUR PROMISED LAND! 🤗 Amen.

P2214 FRUIT is our evidence of change.

“When your lives bear abundant fruit, you demonstrate that you are My mature disciples who glorify My Father!” John 15:8 TPT. Now there’s a wonderful promise from the Lord. However, when we turn that coin over … if we don’t have any visible fruit, then we are not mature …yet. Sometimes I think in the church, we choose people to be leaders who have really great, pretty, fruit blossom flowers growing – they have lots of GIFTS and great charisma. Unfortunately those flowers are only a promise of what is to come … the potential for mature fruit is there … but that is only the beginning of the Lord’s processes.

If you elevate and display those flowers in someone’s life too early – I believe you may hinder or eliminate the fruit. That person can get puffed up with their own importance, or even overwhelmed by responsibility, and stop living their lives under His direction … within a lively ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit. Then they can get too busy with their ministry to work on their own fruit. The popular thought often, is this – these people have great gifts so let’s follow them and go build a church! Instead we need to pray that our leaders have the right discernment from the Lord to be able wait for the fruit in people’s lives to be ripening before they elevate immature believers. GIFTS ARE NOT FRUIT.

Now let’s take a look at what that fruit looks like: Galatians 5:22 MSG  “But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard— …” Galatians 5:22&23 TPT “But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.” “You didn’t choose Me, but I’ve chosen and commissioned you to go into the world to bear fruit. And your fruit will last, because whatever you ask of My Father,  for My sake,  He will give it to you.” John 15:16

First of all – did you get that word limitless? Wow! 😳 And let’s please remember Whose fruit it is! Hallelujah for the Holy Spirit and His work in us – by ourselves we can’t produce anything that will last into eternity, and eternal edible fruit is the main thing! He alone produces limitless. The Holy Spirit is not limited by our perceptions of how He works or how He should work – He once used a whale and a donkey to bring about His purposes. He is limitless! Just wrap your thoughts around that HUGE word.

A pear tree will always produce pears, whether it grows untamed and untrained, or in nice neat little rows. But a wild pear tree won’t produce a lot of fruit, and it will probably be full of bugs!  The one in the orchard is nurtured, trained, sprayed, pruned, fed by fertiliser, watered by rain. It is being cultivated! We are all under cultivation right now – so let’s not pick at each other like blackbirds. The Holy Spirit needs to cultivate our lives, removing the stuff that is unprofitable, and fertilising the things that lead to greater growth and better fruit.

When someone eats a nice, juicy piece of fruit, they say: “that fruit is good.” We begin to mature when we let the Lord decide what is good for us, and what to do with the fruit He is growing in our lives. The Lord needs to cultivate the right attitudes within us. satan, on the other hand, cannot produce good fruit even if he tries.  We saw what he produced in the garden of Eden … sin, disobedience and estrangement! Our enemy cannot produce anything that is good because he is not a creator.

So how do I know if what I am producing is God’s fruit? His fruit is sweet and ripe and juicy, people are attracted to His fruit like bees to honey. Even the smell of the Lord’s Presence in a room attracts others. The bible says: “…taste and see that the Lord is good.” So anyone can taste God’s fruit as well as see and smell it. His fruit comes from within, from the sap of His tree of new life growing inside us. We will always need our daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit. He enriches our lives and our relationship with Him produces His fruit. We co-operate with the Holy Spirit and then the fruit comes from within us.

As we read His word, and let, or allow Him to change the way we walk, talk and think – we are giving the fruit of the Spirit opportunities to develop within us. His fruit in our lives will produce change. We should not be surprised to find that we don’t do the things we did before – that’s because we are now way too busy producing fruit fit for Our King! 👋🏻

P 2140 I will show you THE most excellent way….

I Corinthians 12:31”Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.” 1 Corinthians 13:1 “And yet I will show you the most excellent way.”

The most incredible thing about those two separate verses is that Paul previously described some of the most important gifts God ever gave the body of Christ, in them. I mean apostles, pastors, teachers, prophets etc. etc. These roles are a show case for the Love of God through His people! They are gifts from God Himself. And Paul says we should eagerly desire them. There is no shame if we want to bless God’s people with the gifts He gave us. Unfortunately sometimes we’ve elevated those gifts to rock star status, and we’ve forgotten Love is our catch-cry!

Absolutely everything hangs on the phrase ..  without love those gifts are rendered useless. And worse still … unfortunately the vehicles God designed to showcase His Love, have sometimes become instruments of control. That ought not to be so. Sometimes I think we are like children in a toy shop, we want the bright shiny brand new ‘IN’ thing, not the thing that will last, and truly bring heaven to earth. LOVE LASTS. Everything else will fade away. Only Love will remain when this world is rolled up like a scroll.

Love is described as the most excellent way, and it is not a feeling, because Paul goes on to tell us what it looks like when it is present and none of those things are feelings. Instead they are bodily actions and attitudes in our hearts. A number of years ago the Lord taught me to turn the coin over whenever I read the scriptures. That process looks like this to me – if it fails then it wasn’t love. We all might want to take a seat and think on that. 🤔 The thing I have learnt about HIS kind of love is that it knows the way through any and every problem – and everybody will get blessed … except for the devil. Sometimes when His love comes, because we don’t understand it, we don’t see it.

I just want to pause for a moment to be clear, sometimes things in our lives LOOK terrible, but afterward .. suddenly we get a glimpse of what was happening. God was working everything together for everyone’s good. The cross is an incredible example of that. Christ warned His disciples, over and over again that He was going to die, and they definitely didn’t like that teaching!  They were shattered, so much so that when they were told Jesus was alive after they had seen Him dead – they didn’t believe what they heard. Like I said, feelings aren’t the whole story. Sometimes feelings don’t even enter into our FAITH stories …

Jesus taught many hard things, and even His own disciples didn’t understand what He said, and they didn’t like it either, until afterward… After He had left them … then they thought about everything He said. That’s because God’s Ways are not our ways. No wonder Jesus stood up at that great feast and said: “I AM THE WAY.” But since the dawn of time, human beings have kept right on looking for alternatives  … even when God Himself handed us HIS way to relate to Him, we ignored Him. It seems all we care about is our own pleasure. You know, Eve thought that fruit looked and smelled pretty good!

Over the years, we have mistakenly thought that whenever God is speaking to us – we are going to love it.  So we dismissed any of the things we didn’t like, as things that didn’t come from Him. He had to invade our space to change our minds. The bible clearly shows us the way God loves: “the Lord disciplines those Whom He loves..” (Proverbs 3:12; Hebrews 12:4-11) EVEN HIS SON! So God’s idea of love is absolutely different from ours. Especially in this permissive, anybody-can-do-whatever-makes-them-feel-good, age! However, right now we have an opportunity to learn His ways.  Maybe we need to revise how we see Him, as more light comes to us – instead of steadfastly maintaining our man-made traditions.

It is unfortunate that the church has decided that something that is GRACE, is only meant to be an outward appearance. The Lord could care less about appearances – He wants the things we do to come from faith expressed with love. And we can’t pretend His kind of love, no matter how hard we try. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us to help us. Thank you Lord!  I practically wake up saying “Help Help!” I know I’m going to need His help at any given moment! The Lord Jesus is the embodiment of this passage, check it out for yourself. He had infinite patience with His disciples who didn’t listen to Him,  He was kind to everyone and met their needs. He never boasted about Who He is or where He came from, and He never even spoke badly about His enemies.

As a human being He felt the pain of betrayal and rejection, as well as the whip of jealousy and hatred, like we all do. At any given moment in all that suffering, Jesus could have left us to our own devices. Instead, He took ALL our records of wrong with Him, and nailed them to that cross through His own body – never to be seen again. Evil broke His dear pure heart, because Christ loved truth. He IS truth personified. And Love is an action – we can see it over and over again in the book. Talk is cheap and it fades. Love remains forever. 👋🏻

P 2133 We do not have to look the same to serve Him.

I Corinthians 12:4-6 “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” These verses help us to understand that God’s gifts in action do not have to look the same. Just because your church does not do stuff the same way mine does, it does not mean what happens is not the Holy Spirit and your group of believers is not being led by Him. This whole thing works by faith – your faith may manifest itself differently than mine.

At the same time, I think we need to teach new believers how to individually hear Him and then supervise them and prayerfully instruct them. This step needs to come before teaching people how to use their God-given gifts. Teaching people how to listen, is about activating that person’s faith so they can hear Him for themselves and follow Him consistently. It’s called making disciples, not just cultivating spiritual gifts. Each individual in the body of Christ needs to have Godly character, and that takes time, patience and someone willing to encourage the person as well as correct them.

The Lord Jesus Christ wants to activate His army. We can go to this bible school and that one  – a good thing to do BTW… but if you are learning and not doing, then whatever you are studying is not doing you a penny-worth of good. Christianity doesn’t need more information, we need to start acting on the info we’ve already been given! Use it or lose it! We have enough Christians right now, out there in this world, to change and challenge everything around us, by simply loving our neighbour as ourselves.

It is clear that the Lord does not want us to be ignorant about the Holy Spirit’s gifts. However, just because what we do to contribute does not look like what someone else does, it does not negate the gift He gave us. What matters is obeying what He tells us to do, not just the gift. The real thing to watch out for is “Who is being glorified?”For years I was so intimidated by what the Lord gave me to do, I almost wore an invisibility cloak! I felt judged when I did what He said because it did not look the way other people’s gifts did. I had no revelation about the bigness of our God. Practically everybody mentioned in the Old Testament, was not normal by human standards – yet God chose these people to manifest His loving care and correction to others.

When we serve and bless others with what God has given us, it opens the door to the supernatural, however the supernatural is not always startling. Read the Gospels again. Jesus did some stuff other people didn’t even notice! We don’t have to be famous to be effective. We were ALL given something supernatural to share with others, but not all of us will be seen. We must appreciate that the size of the spiritual contribution does not matter – because if you butter buns and do it because the Lord told you to do it, then somebody is bound to be touched by Him and blessed!

It is so sad that the Body of Christ has a bunch of ambulance chasers who only know how to watch and they do not know how to participate. My advice in any kind of difficulty is this – YOU pray and do what He tells you to do.  If it happens to be your enemy lying on the ground – then all the better! The Lord Jesus spoke to the entire body when He said: “GO! Heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons …” That won’t happen if we all just stand around the sick person waiting for the pastor to be free.

Meanwhile, there is NO ongoing value in looking at what Brother Wilbur does and trying to pray like him because the way he prays seems successful. Instead, ask the Lord, each time – “How do YOU want ME to do this?” The Holy Spirit does not want clones – He wants the many-sided wisdom of God to be displayed in front of this world. We are each a tiny facet of that beautiful wisdom. Glory! What a privilege. 🙌 Jesus said: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:14–16.)  Meanwhile, no wonder this world seems to be circling the drain – most of us have gone and hidden our particular light under a basket!

Staying in relationship with people is also important – first with the Lord, and then with others. The bible does not say it is OK to be in fellowship with Him and ignore the rest of the world … or even worse … be mad at so many people you can’t count them. Jesus Christ so identified with mankind that if we are mad at them  – we are mad at Him! Our personal faith can make a huge difference in someone else’s life when we choose to love them, as we are led by the Holy Spirit. “Each believer is given continuous revelation by the Holy Spirit to benefit not just himself but all…”“…Remember, it is the same Holy Spirit Who distributes, activates and operates these different gifts as He chooses for each believer.” 1 Corinthians 12:7,11. TPT

The most important thing we can ask ourselves about whatever our gifts are … is this love? It doesn’t matter if my gift does not work like yours, what matters is this: is it my aim to be led by Him and demonstrate the love of God without prejudice or partiality, wherever I go? Our faith needs to be activated and used for the benefit of others. We have no excuse. The bible clearly says we do not have to look the same to be a part of what HE is doing. 👋🏻
