P 2793 Learn to value peace above everything else …

…including toilet paper!More on that in a minute! … Peace can become quite elusive in this world today. My best advice to help maintain your peace is to make every effort to get along with others. I’ve learnt over the years that our emotions and wrong thinking can led us onto a slippery path where tempers flare and little things drive us insane. The bible tells us to “pursue peace.” We will have to run after it, it rarely falls on you, and it will take some pretty specific choices to avoid quarrelling. Loving others despite their behaviour, can stop any reciprocal attitudes. My rule of thumb to disengage from crankiness is this – what would love do? Then say something nice instead.

Here’s a laugh… back when Covid was ruining everyone’s world. In my country there was absolutely no toilet paper in our supermarkets. It was all over the news. People were panic buying toilet paper … rolls and rolls. Why? I dunno! 😳 They tore about like demented loons chasing toilet paper. Peace went out of the window! Obviously some people can’t live without it. How hilarious! When I was a kid, our toilet paper consisted of torn up newspapers hanging on a hook. It totally blows my mind that at the same time in my history, fish and chips came wrapped up in newspaper too!

The thing to remember, in times of unrest – the Lord’s peace often seems elusive and it doesn’t seem to make any sense. We want to defend ourselves. I am talking about internal peace – external peace is another story. That takes humility and a willingness to forgive. Our world around us can be exploding and/or falling apart and yet when we have His peace, we are internally, supernaturally removed from whatever is going on. We become spectators, not participants. (Psalm 91) So we can totally see what’s is going on, but we’re watching things happen from the outside. We cannot afford to leave that place of His peace to participate with the bad stuff – because we will lose what the Lord has given us.

Peace disappears, slowly … one bad decision at a time. We give it away when we start using our minds and emotions to analyse trouble or other people’s actions. That’s when we begin to participate. It helps to remember that dead people have no rights! If we talk, talk, talk about how I feel about this or that, or I choose to have an opinion on why someone else is behaving the way they are – I am giving away my God-given right to live in HIS PEACE in those moments of agitation, I become enmeshed within the perceived problem.  Even if I allow myself to become secretly angry with someone else’s behaviour, I will slowly lose His peace. We need to learn to value peace more than self-expression.

God’s kingdom is a PEACEFUL KINGDOM. There are no enemies there. No battles to fight. It’s a real place where everybody’s aim is to glorify the Trinity! We can also be faced with the same choices to overcome that Jesus had in Matthew 4:1-11. The Lord used the scriptures against our enemy. We too have the power to overcome sin, the world and the devil, the same way He did, but we need to choose to allow the Holy Spirit to show us the Way He wants to do it. There were times when Christ was silent in the face of His accusers. The value of saying nothing is often greatly underestimated. At the same time, the Holy Spirit will hand us the scriptures, (the sword) we need to fight with – we just need to calm down enough to hear Him. Spectators do not participate, they WATCH.

God’s peace is not fragile, it is robust when it is established, but it needs to be treasured and respected.  It was given to us for free, because of what Christ did for us. When Jesus suffered for our sins He became our new identity. He shows us the way to cultivate this peace in the following scripture. ““I leave the gift of peace with you—My peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but My perfect peace.Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!” John 14:27 TPT.

Fear, anger, and worry will always come knocking in times of trouble, but we don’t have to answer the door, we can use our courage to fight those things off. And refuse entry to our hearts and minds through the enemy’s ghastly thoughts, painted scenarios and hideous suggestions. Our enemy is always there, like he was when Christ was tempted – he will hand us the next nasty line to throw at the other person. There is no winning in a war –  even the guy fighting with you has an eternal soul. At the same time, we need to remind ourselves, through bible verses —who we really are. We simply tell the enemy that we are not going to accept his nonsense – God’s in charge here!

The way to keep His peace with us all the time, is to die daily to what suits us, and live for Jesus. He will help us but we must ask, and in some stressful moments we may need to keep on asking, because God stretches our faith. However, the Lord is never demanding – so if a demanding thought comes into your mind it is not Him. Jesus is kind, gentle and lowly in His heart, He simply wants to help us, the same way He was helped when His life seemed so bleak.  He sent us the Holy Spirit so we can learn to live with His peace prevailing. We need to learn to value that peace. Bye 👋

You are always and dearly loved by God! So robe yourself with virtues of God, since you have been divinely chosen to be holy. Be merciful as you endeavour to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all. Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others.” Colossians 3:12 TPT

P 2664 On seeking God’s will.

Romans 12:1-2: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

So did ya get that? Changing our minds to think like the Lord does, by reading and obeying what He says — opens the door to discern what He wants. Meanwhile it is not just about thinking differently, it is about letting that different thinking affect our actions and reactions. Presenting our bodies to Him means WE are no longer in charge of what happens. We can always pray and ask Him for a different outcome, but the way to truly worship God is to give Him our bodies … and let HIM decide! Um, do you need a cuppa tea and a biscuit to cheer you up yet? There are a whole lotta people who won’t like that previous thought.

When we live this way, at the same time, the Lord will use our circumstances to reveal our own hearts to us. We test His will out, daily by the way we are choosing to live now. If what we are doing falls on it’s head — then it wasn’t God! BUT! … If bears good fruit it was! Meanwhile if we keep getting the same bad result over and over again, then there is no doubt about it … not. dead. yet! It’s no good blaming other people, or whatever – a transformed mind doesn’t look for things to its own advantage – it looks for God to get all the glory, and it continually chases love.

James, one of my favourite authors, helps us in Chapter 1:5-8: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, Who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”  All we need to to do, is to ask for His wisdom and believe He wants to help us through whatever is going on.

There can be times when we will mess up our ability to receive from the Lord – through our own disobedience, cemented attitudes, or insistence that we are not at fault, somebody else is!  Remember, James is talking about receiving Almighty God’s wisdom. You and I can easily short circuit receiving the very thing God wants us to have by the way we respond to it. We are no longer like the rest of the world … independently minded. We are not meant to be a people whose made-up god puts a big tick on all our ideas. We serve the ever-living, always present Almighty God – He runs this show!

Human beings love systems. BUT, when we look at the Ways of God, He’s not like that! In the bible we can clearly see that every single situation needs a fresh revelation. For example, King David did not fight every one of his battles the same way, because God sent him out with different instructions each time. This man knew how to seek God to find out what came next. He was not interested in strategies that he could repeat at will whenever he went into battle. Sometimes the Lord gave him a strategy before the battle, and sometimes God said: ‘Go! I will be with you!” In other words although a rock killed Goliath, the next time David needed a different plan, he sought the Lord to get it.

This is why I have spent so much time writing about how to receive, hear and obey the Lord. Because there is no system that we can use to make our lives more comfortable… and still serve Him! The mandate is upon us to get to know God and His ways for ourselves. Our pastors can preach until they turn blue. If we do not follow up what the man of God says with our own prayers, and then look for ways to be obedient – all we will get is double-mindedness. That looks like a bit this: “Oh, I think what pastor said here was good but I don’t agree with this and that … I think this instead …”

Good on you! Yay for you! But you just lined yourself up to be double-minded. Ask the Lord what He wants you to know and do, personally, from what was said. Here’s a good clue —-if whatever was said annoyed you then it’s a certainty that there is something there you need to learn, about yourself, others, and the Lord Himself!  Our personal responses are our personal diagnostic tools.  Anything less than learning more about loving Him, or how to love others – plus how to die daily, is pure advertising. Those are the sort of trimmings that make our lives look good from the outside.

There is one attitude that will help us along our way … and that is this … we daily lay down our own right to choose our destiny and, simply follow Jesus. That’s what the disciples did, when they sought His will.. When He left them, they sat about and waited like He told them to ,,, because there was no alternative plan B! Bye 👋

P 2593 Duty.

Luke 17:7-10: “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?  So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Now there’s a scripture everyone wants to carefully embroider and put into a prominent place in a nice picture frame in the lounge! Hmmm. Not-so-much?? Gee, I wonder why not!? Maybe this scripture throws a spanner in the idea that we can have whatever we want, whenever we want it —- we just need to ask for it. Sometimes I think our attitudes to Who He is and who WE are, are completely out of whack. The biggest smack upside our heads is the fact that Luke is quoting Jesus Himself. We serve Him, He does not serve us! And the Lord Himself calls that our duty.

Now there’s a word that has kind of fallen out of favour eh? Right along with the idea that we are His servants. Here’s another nice chewy verse or two to mull over. Matthew 20:26-28 “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

FYI … that thought is also in Mark and John — just in case you or I were worried it has been taken out of context, or it is just a one off! It is time we accepted that God’s truth is w-a-y bigger than ours, and it is a bit more final too! After all, He’s God … a-n-d  we’re not! And that’s the end of that story.

I love the way Jesus opened up the Father’s Love for our understanding, as well as toward us — however, He did not die to open up avenues for presumption. Jesus Christ did not come here to be the kind of Santa Claus/Genie we have sometimes made Him out to be. The way He interacted with His disciples made it perfectly clear how much He loved them, as well as WHO was in charge … and it wasn’t them! He gave clear directives and expected them to be carried out. That is a good thing to remember.

We can easily get trapped in our own human rationale and excuse ourselves, when the Lord plainly told us what we are here for, and what we need to do. He knows we are basically just glorified dust. However personally, I’d much rather try to do my duty, with the help of His grace, than sit about making well-crafted excuses that are really based on rebellion. PS, I often don’t want to do heaps of stuff either, but He rarely asks me for my opinion! Plus you die daily quicker when you do stuff you don’t want to do … and you do it  – just because He said so.

Here’s another bible story that could put a spoke in our bicycle wheel, and trip us all up. Matthew 21:28-31“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered.”

Yes, it is Jesus talking! Yes, He is telling us that our grumpy attitude does not matter – what matters is whether we obey or not! Check out the bible, God loves cheerful givers but He looks for obedience whether we are grumpy and non-compliant or not. The really, really good news is that we don’t have to do any of the things He told us to do ALONE. Oh! Praise God, we have a Helper! 🙌 What would we do without Him? Whenever my get-up-and-go, gets-up-and-goes … without me … He is the One Who empowers me to keep moving on.

Here’s a quick update: above is a picture of our car. We are off to Armidale to pass on some of the 66 blankets etc. Actually I have no idea how the Lord fitted any of that stuff in our car! Kudos to my hubby, he’s a hero, with the Lord’s help he did it – praying all the way. Now our car looks like it has been eating too many Tacos!  Bye. 🚙 …

P 2549 We are His radiators!

“Now may God, the fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in Him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with His super-abundance until you radiate with hope!”Romans 15:13 TPT. OK so I am still kind of stuck on hope … mainly because hope kicks open doors to other qualities. My best advice is go and stand in that fountain in Romans 15 – and don’t step out. Stay IN the water of the Word, let it wash over you as it cleans out your thinking.

We sing songs about the fountain of God and claim that we have a river of life flowing out through us … and  …then go out act just like the rest of the world that surrounds us. It is time to remember that these people around us have no hope! Let’s make it our goal to go and stand in that fountain of hope, every day. And remind ourselves:  “I’ve been saved, I’m no longer in the kingdom of darkness that I see every single day – I’m now in the Kingdom of marvellous His light!”  Then start looking for His bright shafts of light all around you, shining through other people and even our difficult situations. We have unfortunately become so adept at finding faults:  in ourselves, in the system, in the way we live, as well as in others. Let’s look for His light instead.

Letting the Lord’s love flow into and over us, means we will begin to automatically overflow with joy and peace. You and I have been given all the riches of heaven. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, we’ve been given everything as a product of His Grace. So let’s go out and live in the light of all Jesus did for us. That’s when we will start to radiate hope toward others. You can tell when you’ve moved house from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His marvellous light – other people notice your behaviour has changed and say so.  Standing in His fountain means that the water flowing over you will eventually overflow… into joy. However, focus matters. Our focus on Him can lead us back into the light so we can stand again in His fountain.

Look, it is easy to just kind of file our salvation under that happened back then, and instead be distracted right now by things like;  ‘life is hard and I’m struggling with this and that!‘ The answer to any situation is always the cross. We must choose to decide He died for whatever happened this time — whether it is your sin, or mine against you — and then we pick up our own cross and keep on following Him. Picking up our cross means we own it. We don’t hide from the bad things, we let His light in instead. The Lord Jesus solved everything right there.✝️  Never move past the cross!

The cross is the reason we die daily, plus it’s our motivation for change. The cross is the symbol of everything He did for us. It seems to me that we have anchored our hope into the wrong place. We have anchored our hope into everything going well. So when things go wrong, we can even think that somehow we aren’t walking with the Lord anymore. That can’t happen – He will not leave us or forsake us. But WE can easily be deceived into walking away from living in the light. Darkness never announces itself … it creeps over us quietly, shifting our focus and attitudes toward others. SIN KILLS HOPE. Sinlessness is not IN us, it’s IN HIM.

We’ve been born again to be His radiators, reflecting His life, His hope, His love, His warmth into everywhere we go. I have learnt that it is ME that needs to change. I am not always that person that other people meet, living on my nicest politest behaviour and smiling through pain etc. Polite does not carry the Presence of God – unconditional love and truth do! Sadly, I am still sometimes the person who shouts at my dear husband, uses sarcasm way too much, or yells at the poor sod on the other end of the phone who is just trying to do their job. But the reality is that’s actually no longer ME. Now I have a choice. Now I carry within me the potential for change. I have been born again, now I have God’s DNA.

When pressed beyond belief, Jesus Christ didn’t retaliate – He radiated God’s Grace and Love. My life is no longer about pleasing ME, and making me happy, it is about pleasing HIM!  Hope will start to die unless it is regularly fed by visiting the cross and looking at the One Who made a way for us to live differently. When we choose to die to self, we too will begin to radiate Christ everywhere we go.  👋

P 2540 Our new life is OURS – right now!

Learning to walk in the Spirit is not like learning French! There will never be a better time to begin than … right here right now. We cannot achieve unity with Christ Himself in our own flesh, which is why we must choose to die daily. This means that we need to get used to saying NO to our flesh and YES to His ways, and those choices are often minute by minute. His new life in us = the Holy Spirit + our choices + follow through.

That new life will be activated inside our own personal relationship with Him – the daily, moment by moment fellowship we share together … Every day we need to break bread with Christ. That means we take His Word, pray over it, ask for help to understand it personally, and then we deliberately go and obey Him.

Other people can’t give us this, it is something that we must choose to prioritise for ourselves, with the Lord’s help. Today our world concentrates on getting what it wants by its own means. Remember, mankind was organised and clever enough to build the tower of Babel. I urge you not to give into being hurried, or pushed when it comes to reading His book. The church itself has wanted to push God’s people into a pure devotion to God that can only be gained by personal spiritual investment.

Father God reveals Himself through His word, intimately and personally. This is because our new life in Christ is about faith… and our relationship with Him, our obedience, is the stepping out in faith place! The only person who can walk that way IS ME. The way it works can be explained to us, but if we do not personally start taking faith steps, as He leads us, then we will end up back in the flesh. And sadly, the flesh will not profit us. Our flesh’s end-game is the glorifying of MAN. We will stop enjoying God and start ticking boxes.

The Lord gives us revelations because these interactions are part of intimacy – that’s why your revelation may not benefit me at some particular moment in my life. Because … He’s speaking to you! Whenever God shares His secrets with us, He is sharing Himself! Not every prophecy spoken in church is for the whole church – first and foremost it is for the speaker to digest and gain fresh insight and understanding for themselves. Otherwise it can be just another fresh load of instructions loaded onto backs that are already breaking!

Father God has always meant for us to discover Him afresh, every single morning, it is like the manna the Israelites gathered every day. In that time when we shut out the world, and listen to the things He speaks to us through His Word as if He were speaking them to us personally. Otherwise we simply end up following rules and hoping that will do. The flesh cannot give birth to the things of the Spirit. We need to seek Him, and go after the things He is revealing to us. It is meant to be a happy engagement between us and Him as He patiently teaches us His Ways.

At the same time, we cannot tack Him onto, or into, our already established lives – He is now our life. For me to live IS Christ to die is gain.’ Just as the Lord chose us, and called us to be His people, in the same manner we need to choose, prefer, and defer to Him. This means we will deliberately eliminate the things He points out to us – with the Holy Spirit’s help. Our flesh will lie to us. It will tell us we can’t do thus or thus because … we are too weak, too sick, too busy, too preoccupied with the business/busyness of this world. Sadly, if we are not aware, we can get so busy maintaining our little lives, and our own agendas, that we leave the Lord out and relegate Him as an add-on.

However, whatever our attitudes or thoughts, the truth is — we are now dead. So we have no other agenda but His. This is why we need to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. That personal cross is illustrated by the things in this life that will pull at us and demand our attention to the point where Christ becomes secondary – instead of primary. It can be people, or occupations, or leisure past-times. To walk by faith we will have to fight fear, guilt or blame to prioritise Christ. “But the]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” John 14:26. He is always on STANDBY!

Sometimes I think, we have what we believe backwards. We fight for healing, or freedom in order to better serve Christ, but if the Lord is not building that house, then we are labouring in vain. It is not that God wants us to be sick, or infirm or in prison! It is that He does not want sickness etc to occupy all our thoughts. We can end up wasting our allotted time chasing answers to human problems when Jesus Christ Himself proved that HIS PRESENCE IS THE ANSWER. Wherever He went sickness, demons, infirmity left. EVERY SINGLE TIME. His new life is now ours, right here, right now.🙌

P 2153 The Lord says tough stuff.

John 20:24-27 “…Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves Me. “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.

Jesus said a whole lot of tough stuff that needs our immediate attention. After all. so many people alive today do not know Him – and they know nothing of His Salvation plan for mankind. And WE, you and I, are the ones who need to tell them. Here’s a couple more similar verses: “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me. Matthew 16:24. That cross can be our circumstances, or even a difficult person. Good time to stop and think… Mo-ving on again… “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. John 3:36.

You probably never heard anyone preach on those scriptures lately. They definitely wouldn’t be anyone’s first choice for verses to comfort us! At first glance they don’t seem very people friendly. But our faith is not a soft faith – it is an all inclusive, who-so-ever-will, may-come faith, which also means everybody is meant to  participate. Jesus Christ set the high standard we all must follow and He showed us by His example, that we must die, take up our cross, and follow Him. Hmmm… today’s blog is not much of a cheery one!

The Lord never ever spoke frivolously about death, He took that matter seriously. But, He also saw death as a doorway through to something bigger. I’m not sure we comprehend that completely until we have to face it for ourselves, or someone we love dearly, dies. This means we don’t talk about the backbone of our faith much … except perhaps at funerals. In all the years I have been a Christian I don’t think I have heard all that many sermons about this kind of exceptionally serious subject. We mainly talk about sin, repentance,  ministries, God’s love, benefits, and spiritual gifts. The stuff we GET, not the stuff we GIVE UP.

I personally think sin actually starts here, with what Jesus said about the way we live our lives. We are either all IN, or we are all OUT, but we must be learning, daily, to count the cost. In truth there are no part-time Christians in the bible, and there is no room for paddling in the shallows. I believe we have divided Christianity into two separate categories in the Western world – being born again, and … hopefully, one day, ev-en-tu-ally ….getting around to … dying daily. But … maybe not too quickly!

Basically, I think Christians see this dying daily stuff as an optional extra. And it isn’t. Jesus didn’t see this subject that way … read the book! Paul had quite a bit to say about it as well. It seems to me that sometimes we try to get away with as much as we ‘legally’ can, and then eventually we have to repent to ‘fix things’. Plus we make excuses about not having any power to change … so we can’t help it. Like the cross Jesus died on was devoid of power! Having said all that, there are a select few people that I know personally, who really do actively try to follow the Lord’s teachings. And boy do they have a hard time of it!  Most of their problems come from the paddlers at the edge of the pool, throwing rocks at them.

Let’s pretend for a minute. Let’s pretend that we ALL live to die daily, simply because the Lord told us to do it.  Let’s imagine that we have to practice these skills in order to understand what Grace and faith really are. I think that if all of us live the way Jesus did, following His instructions, satan is going to be a whole lot busier than he is when we treat these scriptures as optional extras. We belong to the majority. Jesus and me are a majority. So why don’t we live like we are the majority? Um … we like our own way too much?

Like I said, this blog is not cheery or comforting unless you have dealt with, or are dealing with your old life minute by minute, day by day. If that is the case then right about now, you are nodding your head at what you are reading! The problem we have created, is that we tell people they must be born again … and we omit to tell them that this new free life Christ died to give us, actually has a cost. The cost is our old life for His new life. Now, I could list all the benefits of this new life in Christ here today, but Christianity seems to be pretty good at finding the benefits all by itself. It’s the cost we get stuck on.

There is only one way to heaven. The blood of Jesus. Now, we exchange our old life for His and live for Him. Ya might want to think on that while you are earning your daily bread … which actually comes from Him! That’s tough stuff. 👋🏻
