P3450 Letting the Lord’s colours IN.

Even a few minutes daily, when we are distracted from the busyness of this world, is so good for our souls and mental health. Looking out of the window of a train, or watching a nature program, even watching your children sleep, all these things are free and there for us to enjoy. I love to watch the natural world ticking over doing stuff without my permission, it helps me realise I don’t have to hold even one bit of this world up. That’s SomeOne Else’s job!

At our house, hubby is putting together a wild garden at the front … the poor man… I get these grand ideas and hubby gets to carry them out! However, he too enjoys what it looks like!! Hubby still has to work but he does it under the Lord’s input and supervision. We have a semitropical garden, so some plants died, because wild meadows seem to do better in cold countries. I’ve put some pictures in today, they are not from our garden, but they were so pretty! That’s what we are aiming at.

In our front yard, we’ve had quails under the front steps, plovers nesting, bin chickens continually raiding the bins – even the cockatoos have a go at that! We have billions of Indian mina birds. They are noisy, conceited little blighters, and they poop on our car. It seems that they like looking at their own reflections. I guess that happens when you have a bird with a brain the size of a pea.

Plus we have our greatly loved local lorikeets, a blue tongued lizard, frogs and water dragons. Once a praying mantis gave birth in our wisteria, to about a billion little praying mantises. They were so perfect and tiny! We also have butterflies galore, along with blue banded bees, great carpenter bees, and teddy bear bees. The list goes on and on. It’s nearly spring here, it is definitely worth sticking your head out of the window to take a breath and take in the world around you waking up from winter.

Doing that is restful. Sometimes I think that our minds are so busy they don’t seem to know how to slow down and enjoy the scenery along the way. We are too busy rushing from A to B, picking up the kids and dropping them off at C, while we rush on to D and get our shopping done. On a good day we can sometimes go through the whole alphabet! However, this kind of action and activities won’t support us so we are contented happy people.

Here’s a bible verse to think on at such moments, Genesis 1:31: “God saw all that He had made, and it was very good…” Did you know that the words – “God said it was good…” appears seven times? If He said all He saw was good, then perhaps we need to take note of that and take the time to enjoy it more? After all GOOD is a very big word to Father God! Could it be we have become so caught up in the practicalities of this life, we can no longer enjoy anything that doesn’t have a screen? This earth is the setting into which God Himself chose to put us – we are His jewels.

Jesus told us clearly there is a rest we are to enter into.   He called it HIS rest. “For only we who believe can enter His rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter My place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since He made the world.” Hebrews 4:3. This rest is what God Himself did on the 7th day of creation. We’ve made that 7th day about religion, but it was given to us to relax, breathe and enjoy Him. It is symbolic of the way the Lord wants us to live.  If we are not resting in God as we go about our day, then whatever we are doing, we are labouring in vain. Our faith is the key to entering into His rest. We simply believe He has taken care of our lives – the bits behind us, and the bits that are current — plus whatever is coming next!

He made this world for us to enjoy, and He gave us His Son to clear away every bit of the sin and debris that separated us from Him. What Jesus did for us, allows US to rest. Rest is the way Father God thinks, because the work is already done. Out of that rest comes everything else we do. For me that means I step back, take a big breath, and ask for His help, before I do anything and everything. It’s a matter of reminding myself I live in His kingdom now.

We live in His processes – no matter what is going on around us. We are kingdom people! You and I have chosen to live our lives His way. There is true rest when the work has already been done and you get to enjoy what someone else has laboured over. My little wild garden, is an example of the kind of free blessing God has given us. I don’t need to work in it, instead my dear husband works to keep it alive and thriving. That’s what the Lord’s rest is like, we do what He says, and we find the work has already been done!

Even though we do need to take care of our families, our loved ones, our homes — we must choose to remember that nothing happens to us, or through us, that God doesn’t already know about. Let’s enjoy the world around us, work hard, play, and … do everything from His rest. REST IS IN …. STRIVING IS OUT. Now, we live out our lives in what He did for us, using our faith and following His prompts, living this life His Way.

You and I don’t have to be driven by anything, we simply hold His hand and go where He goes, and enjoy the colours He put in our lives along the way. Bye 👋.

P 3197 Christmas is almost upon us.

You can tell that when you step inside a shopping mall. People are buzzing about like bees in a hive, frantically buying gifts for family and friends. It definitely seems official — consumerism is addictive, just like smoking, drinking and gambling. Sadly, you don’t have to have actual money to participate in this particular not-so-merry-dance. Many people put themselves into a lot of debt to create some sort of happiness, even for a day. When life is hard even a little snatch of laughter is valuable. How about we find a way to put a smile on the face of our neighbour!

Here’s something I stumbled across while following Jesus, Psalm 127:1. It challenged me regarding gift giving..“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain…”  Man there have been a number of times when I wished that verse was not in there!  I need the Lord to help me with giving gifts. I love giving gifts to people – particularly if they like them. There is something about that surprised happy face when they open their present that just blesses me. I pay very little attention to what I am given – but boy do I love giving!  And little kids are my super-duper favourite people to give to — they rip into the paper, and tear apart the boxes to get at that prize. It’s a joy to watch them. Meanwhile who can afford to buy a teenager a gift today? You almost have to re-mortgage your house!

Wouldn’t it be great if we thought about unwrapping what Jesus has said to us in His book, with that sort of expectation and happiness? Imagine facing the bible like an unknown beautiful gift, all wrapped up and sparkly … instead of a chore that must be performed – otherwise our day might fall apart. What if we couldn’t wait to get at the treasure inside? And, what if seeing one another had precisely the same effect? We might even buy a whole field just to own a precious pearl like that. … now there’s a think spot!

Back to the verse. This verse kind of means I’ve laboured in vain a lot in my lifetime. I’ve gone for the hope of happiness for me, instead of leaning on the discernment of Jesus. When it comes to giving gifts I’m hopeless. I go nuts. Somewhere in my head, I think my wiring is upside down! I am not saying that Jesus doesn’t like presents and gift giving, after all He loved all of us by giving the greatest gift of all – His life. But what I am saying is that it is possible to use gift giving to try to bridge gaps between you and people-you-don’t-get-along-with, and that can often lead to great disappointment. We can sometimes try to use gift-giving to curry favour with particularly fussy friends and relatives – instead of seeking restoration.

Maybe you have recently spent days trying to find the right gift for Great Uncle Bulgaria, and then he just kind of sniffed at your present and said a dull lifeless: “Thanks” as he plopped it on the floor. Your heart sinks into your shoes and you can almost see the sign that says: ‘That one is going in the recycling bin!”  The things we drag along behind us like the tail on a comet. Those things we think we have no say over, and feel we cannot change – except because of what the Lord Jesus did – we can!  Maybe I just need to obtain more trusty book gift-vouchers instead of driving myself balmy trying to find something just right.

There is a plus side to all this to-ing and fro-ing regarding buying gifts at this time of the year.… people smile at you and say: “Merry Christmas.” Meanwhile, it’s just like Jesus to have HIS birthday benefit everyone else, in more ways than one! We’ve found you can end up chatting to people in the lifts, instead of staring at the floor hoping the lift will get to your floor quickly, because you are feeling trapped with strangers. I have this thing with strangers, the nature of who they are to me, means I’m never going to see them again! You can say anything!  Sometimes they even talk back – WOW!

We love Christmas at our house. My dear hubby is a huge fan, and when you put that together with someone who loves giving gifts, well … Christmas is a busy time for us. We start shopping and planning decorations in August! My fella loves his outdoor lights and he plans them for months. Lights are a lovely way to speak to your neighbours without saying a word. Our manger scene and ‘Happy Birthday Jesus’ lights have been going for 12 years. We also have joy, hope, and peace signs that hubby made.

Yesterday, my husband and one of our granddaughters went off to take some gifts from our church to the local women’s shelter. Those poor ladies leave behind everything as they literally run for their lives. I’ve left everything behind once, so I understand their pain a little bit. However, in that position, you can’t afford to look back, or like Lot’s wife you will turn into a pillar of salt. Anyway … we have a big pile of assorted gifts to put under their tree. Knowing people care won’t fix everything but it sure helps when you are all alone and scared about what comes next. They were immensely grateful. My hubby likes to talk to the ladies in the office – nobody talks to them.

As I said, Christmas is upon us and many families will gather together and celebrate. Yet, whether they actually know what they are celebrating is a whole other ball-game! I pray we all get a chance to tell even one other person that Jesus is not a baby anymore – He’s all grown up and fighting for us! Blessings as you prepare to remember the miracle God gave us all, when He became one of us.Bye. 🥳

P 2675 Don’t let the lipstick/liposuction fool ya!

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 NASB.

My first thought when I read this scripture today was this: wouldn’t we all be better off, if we saw others like the Lord does?! What if we appreciated people’s hearts, more than the colour of their lipstick or the fact that they have no fat around their middle? I cannot believe our society vacuums away fat! YUCK!! Social media, movies, magazines, or even the news, all present a false view of this life. See that movie star? FAKE! The media lies to us and they get paid for it! The pretty, witty, fit, and powerful people are supposed stars, yet they have had more work done on them than a renovated broken-down house! Apparently, we enjoy being fooled by illusions. Sigh. You know, many pretty people have an awful lot of spak-filler plastered on.

Now, let’s STOP and look at SomeOne worthwhile. SomeOne truly beautiful… let’s look at Jesus the way Isaiah saw the Lord in Isaiah 53:1,2.“He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.”  Imagine that. Jesus didn’t actually need physical or scholarly attributes… yet people were attracted to Him like bees to honey. What was inside showed up on the outside. Hah! I’d like to get me some of that kind of surgery thank you Lord! Hmmm. Sometimes, when the spirit of nasty has grabbed me by the neck and I’m spewing unkind venom everywhere – I sure need some bad attitude liposuction!  Thank God for our Saviour!

Moving on … rather quickly…   that scripture from Samuel reminded me of another one: “So from now on we regard no one from a human point of view [according to worldly standards and values]. Though we have known Christ from a human point of view, now we no longer know Him in this way.”  2 Corinthians 5:16. Let me see if I can try to interpret that. We can’t know Jesus or anyone else, just with our brains. We are going to need open hungry hearts. More Lord!!

Why is mankind so obsessed with outward beauty, physical strength, and brain power? None of that stuff lasts. People go to the gym every single day and they work out ….even in their eighties!🙄… Well, that’s nine kinds of ridiculous. Fancy spending whatever time you have left on earth, lifting weights and dieting! How tragic to live out a life not actually comprehending the things that really matter. I can’t see Moses in a gym, can you? He was too busy getting his work-out doing what God said!

Meanwhile, I can tell you personally that old age is a great leveller. You simply can’t feel superior in your intellect anymore, because you often end up forgetting the end of the sentence right after you just started it! And some days it is all I can do to get around our house. Since I decided to try to fly down the stairs, instead of just plain walking, one of my knees is out of sync with the other one. I could go on … but it would bore you to death … and I am definitely not a pretty person … so I can’t get away with that!

But, thanks to Jesus, inside me, right here, right now, I have a spiritual well that sustains me even when my body complains and my brain seizes up! BTW, I don’t believe in mirrors. My problem is that I keep looking for the 19year old I once was, in them. I’m definitely going to be disappointed on that one! A mirror cannot tell you who you are – God’s Word is the only mirror that is accurate. Praise God for a mirror that shows our true selves – and then it points to the solution!

Oh Jesus is so incredibly beautiful. He’s the One Who gladly laid down His life for His friends … that’s you and me. He has given all of us the greatest love this world will ever know. And He actually chose to do that so that for everyone – including those who are obsessed with how they look. HE LOVES them for free. The Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit are our very Best Friends, our personal cheer-squad, and our life-coach on the road to eternity. We are sooo rich!!

The thing that makes this life wonderful isn’t what we have, or look like, or how smart we are — it’s what we can freely give away to others. Envy, disappointment, and causing others to feel like they are a waste of space – those things are terrible gifts to give someone else. LOVE enriches us all. But comparison and competition highlight lack and we live this life, the only one we will get, feeling deprived.

“Don’t be fooled by their outward appearance … the LORD looks at the heart.”  Skip the fancy red lipstick, the 100 one-handed push-ups … and do more bible study instead. Trust me, you will enjoy that life more. Why should any of us make some plastic surgeon/fitness trainer/make-up artist even richer? Bye. 👋

PS Today is our Anniversary. 37 years of being married to the man of my dreams!🎈🎈💕
