P 2816 Do great exploits.

Matthew 25:14-30 TPT: “It’s also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left. Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master’s investment. The second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master’s money.“After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them. The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’ “The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master’s investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’

“The servant given one thousand said, ‘Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.’“The master was furious. ‘That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.“‘Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this “play-it-safe” who won’t go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.’”

When I read this passage today some things stood out, so I have highlighted them. It always seems to be important to me to place the things the Lord highlights into context. So let’s look at this one the way it happened in the first scripture where it says: …according to their abilities…

The servants’ master had taken into account each man’s ability when he handed out the money to be invested. That would be so foreign in today’s society. Grading people into categories would be a no, no. It might even be considered demeaning, and in some instances it could be taken very personally. However, these few words show me that the Lord doesn’t ask us to do anything that we can’t actually do, as we operate in His grace.. And at the same time, He may not test you the same way He tests me, because He knows our frames, He knows how far we can stretch.

The second thing I noticed was this: that man who buried his portion of the money was capable of far more effort than he gave his master. I don’t know if he was lazy, or he underestimated himself, but the point is – he could have done better, if he had just overcome his fear. Instead he was underusing what he had been given.

If we translate this parable into what our part in God’s kingdom looks like  — which is what Jesus intended — then that third servant did as little as possible because of fear. Yeah, I know, that sort of clarity sucks doesn’t it? It’s actually so clear we cannot deny it. Jesus was pointing out to each one of us that fear is never an excuse. This master points out that living in fear and evasiveness is a terrible way to live …Like the man said, nobody else is limiting our capabilities the reality is that we are doing it to ourselves! I thought about it like this: our next miracle may be right around the corner of us taking a risk, and being obedient to whatever He has told us to do.

Jesus Himself once used the phrase: “the least of these…”  Not everybody is born with excess talent oozing out of their pores. Whatever we want to do with our lives for His kingdom — we will need a calling, some talentPLUS .. a whole lotta hard work. Many people like to skip that last bit. Devotion to the task is part of the prerequisite for a kingdom person. Our devotion to Him translates into action on His behalf.

Jesus was God Himself, personified, but He still had to live this life like every other human being. The exchange with our enemy in the wilderness proves that He did not use the Holy Spirit’s power to get things for Himself. He refused to turn a stone to bread – even when He was hungry. What I mean is this – Jesus knows man’s limitations personally.

You know I would much rather try, and fail than sit and hope heaven will fall on me and motivate me. It is easier to steer a moving vehicle than a stationary one. The Lord is a Redeemer – He can take all the bits of our lives that seem useless and make something glorious out of them.  God can take a man who was killing Christians and make the greatest Christian theologian this world has ever seen. Paul!

Redemption is transformation on steroids. It is outside the realm of our thinking, or our efforts, because our thinking is too small and our efforts cannot be sustained. In His kingdom, redemption is normal. If we are going to invest our lives for His sake, then we need to expect that we will continually undergo the process of redemption. That man who buried his master’s money needed his mind renewed!  So do we, because: “ … the people who do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” Daniel 11:32. Bye. 👋

P 2296 It’s not just Arts and Crafts.

Exodus 31:1-5 Now the Lord said to Moses,  “See, I have called by name Bezalel, son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.  I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom and skill, in understanding and intelligence, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze,  and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, to work in all kinds of craftsmanship.

If we are not careful we can be quite dismissive about the decorative and creative arts. Just because our enemy has perverted this medium that does not mean these gifts and talents cannot be used by the Lord. This man Bezalel was anointed by God, and his incredibly diverse skills were given to him for the Holy Spirit’s purposes.

This man was gifted by the Holy Spirit in a wide range of things. Things that many Christians treat as quite unimportant. Oholiab was gifted as well, and these two men planned and supervised the construction of the tent of meeting and the most Holy place. They created the place that God ordained for Him and men to meet. I find it fascinating that these craftsmen, and women, were skilled in hobby-type things like wood carving, embroidery, and precious stones. The things we see as a diversionary past-time …not a real job.

Art, music, literature, theatre, all of these things can be used by the Holy Spirit powerfully to go around our minds and target hearts. We desperately need these talents, please do not dismiss them lightly. They can be used to fling the closed doors of anyone’s hardened heart open. And suddenly we become aware that whatever is going on is GOD, not just some tickle of our fancy or something we find emotionally appealing. There are also times, in this world full of all kinds of words – words that have been abbreviated, reconstructed, or corrupted into parodies of their originals —  that we can become so hardened by superficial things, that even beautiful, meaningful, deep words can bounce off us. Familiarity can breed contempt.

But a Holy Spirit painting or similar work of art can go right around our minds and logic, and breathe His life and light into the viewer. I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes. I’ve watched someone receive one of my hubby’s watercolour paintings and they went from well-held together human beings to a puddle of water … in a heartbeat. It defied logic.

We must not, we dare not, despise the day of seemingly little things. It is time for us to use everything that is in us to bless and praise His holy Name. Our God is a creative God, and creativity truly does unlock hearts.

I believe that many the problems of mankind can be solved by our creative Father and His obedient listening servants. He decorated this world. He didn’t put Adam and Eve in a lovely house or even a beautiful boat, instead He placed them in a garden, a garden HE designed … with animals and birds and all sorts of incredible creatures. And they all came out of His enormous, boundless creativity. Our God sees creativity and design in a far deeper more profound way than we currently understand.

So don’t give up your hobbies, or occasional past time, or dismiss these things as ‘not spiritual.’ Instead give those supposedly ordinary talents to the Lord.  Ask Him why you have them. Then wait on Him for guidance. We are currently living limited, tiny lives, when our lives are linked, right here, right now, by Christ’s completed work to the limitless One. Submit your abilities to God and to the body of Christ, and hold onto your hat, you never know where they might take you. Finally – infuse everything you do with Love, and He will infuse it with Himself. 👋🏻

P 2285 Ambassadors for His kingdom.

We all know this song, some of us probably learnt it way back in children’s church…“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33.

So what does it mean to seek His kingdom first? In most instances, it means when His kingdom comes, that means MY kingdom will GO!  We are Jesus’ delegated ambassadors in this world of ours. We are here, in this time, and in this place, to be living examples of the kingdom of God in action. In effect, any sort of ambassador is a walking, talking, active representative from somewhere else.

And if you find that thought daunting, or even a little bit overpowering, then you are in exactly the right place. It is not in us, as human beings, to bring His kingdom everywhere we go, by ourselves, but when we walk with the Holy Spirit, we go, wherever HE goes. The Holy Spirit takes the kingdom of God everywhere. He simply cannot help it. It is His nature.

Some earthly ambassadors serve abroad, and they take advantage of their power and position in their new community. This can also be true in the kingdom of God too. It is up to us how, where, and IF we serve His kingdom wherever He has called us to be. Our King is not a despot, He does not demand that we must serve Him, that choice is always ours. But we owe it to the King of Kings not to forget for a minute Who we re-present – and to keep in mind how we represent Him.

It is a tragedy when we see salvation as the end point of our interaction with Almighty God, and put aside the reason we were saved – we were saved to serve Him, and others. If all we do with what we have been given, is use it to serve ourselves and our own agendas, then we have not understood the gospel. So who do we serve? The people around us, families, friends, strangers, whoever comes across our path.

Jesus told a large number of parables about servants serving their Master – either well, or badly. And the point of each one was that when their Master was missing, there were some servants who did not carry out His wishes. How we carry out what He has given us to do, hinges on the talents, gifts and abilities the Lord has given to each one of us. But it is up to us to activate them and use them for the good of the rest of mankind.

In effect, we should not treat the check-out girl in the supermarket any differently than we treat Brother ‘Everybody-knows-his-name!’ We should be the same person in our homes, even under pressure, that we are in our churches when we are smiling and saying ‘good morning’ to each other. God did not promise us a safe life, but He did promise to protect us. The lack of perceived safety in situations, is a poor excuse for disobedience. He promises all of us wisdom, guidance and provision among other things.

Jesus also spent a great deal of time teaching: ”the kingdom of God is like …” So we cannot say we do not know what His kingdom looks like because Christ described it over and over again. Read the book! If we miss doing what He asks us to do, then we need to repent before Him and others, and that’s what keeps us humble. In the past we have spent way too much time trying to make ourselves feel comfortable, trying to fix our past, and organise the future so we will be fit to serve Him. We work hard to be fit for the Master’s use but never actually get around to doing something.

It is the Holy Spirit’s role to equip us, along with His gifts operating in our churches. This demonstrates to me, that in the main we have not comprehended our role in His kingdom. Every single gift is important because each gift facilitates others. Our role is to obey Him as He leads us through His word, His inner voice and our circumstances. The bible doesn’t come with an opt out button if it doesn’t suit us. Not applying it to our lives is rebellion.

When we look at Moses, Gideon, Samson, Ezekiel, Amos, Jeremiah and other prominent figures from His book, we can quickly see that obedience puts us in a position to succeed in our earthly role for His kingdom. We cannot pick and choose what we want to obey and what we don’t, because that is like standing with one foot in His kingdom, and one foot in the enemy’s kingdom. That will divide our mind and hearts, and blur our God-appointed roles.

It is a privilege to be an ambassador for Christ wherever we serve. Our main aim should be to seek and serve His kingdom, not build our own. Bye 👋🏻

P 2212 It’s OK to be a weak people! I recommend it!

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But He (Jesus) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Our new life in Christ HINGES on these verses.

I think this is one of those oxymorons in the bible that kind of muddle and mess with our minds. It seems to be saying: ’Let us be glad about being weak because then Christ can be strong in us?’ Huh? How does that work again?? It works and relies purely on the power of His Grace. Christ’s death released so much grace and power it not only saves us, it can utterly transform us – from the inside out. But we have to LET it – and letting it means giving up before you even start, or turning it over to Him when you realise YOU can’t do it. It means unconditional surrender.

We need to learn to deliberately lay down all our escape plans, clauses and subclauses, and decide to live our lives helpless without His help and input. Jesus totally relied upon the Holy Spirit and we need to learn to rely upon Him too. But first we need to admit we cannot possibly be spiritual in a way that is acceptable to the Lord – without His help.  If we want His perfect power, then you and I need to start from our utter weakness and live there!

BTW, I am not talking about indulging the flesh with things like polishing off a large packet of potato chips or a whole chocolate bar! That may well be a weakness but it is not the only weakness that Paul is talking about here! The weakness Paul means here, is the lack of willingness, or motivation to live this life we have been given, differently. It is the weakness that shows up in our flesh and attitudes, when somebody treats us badly, or life squeezes us tightly and everything starts going wrong. It’s about dying to self at those times when we want to give in to our old self, and do and say, whatever we feel like! That’s called living by your own strength and it is not only over-rated –  living that way has no real Holy Spirit power in it.

Well, for me to continually live out what these verses say, I follow Him straight down onto my knees! Then I tell the Holy Spirit I want to obey Him, but it’s too hard and I’m not going to lie to Him! This is where my all time favourite word motivates me. Nevertheless … I’m gunna give in to You anyway Lord. It’s where I ask for His strength and admit my utter weakness, plus my lack of motivation and I ask Him to help me. So, what’s the difference between making yourself – or praying first asking for His help – and then still doing whatever it is anyway? After all you still end up doing whatever it is you don’t want to do! Well, NOW, I am leaning on Him not me – I gave up on MY strength when I asked for His help. Then I tell Him I am so sorry I didn’t want to do whatever it is, I get up, blow my nose, use my faith and go and do it.

You see to collect this particular promise you have to start with ‘I can’t’ and sometimes … ‘I am not sure I want to either!’  Speaking for myself – I can’ta lot! So I give up – A LOT.😂 I can’t shower myself, dress myself, give myself energy, eat anything I want, sleep well all the time, or even make myself something to eat or drink. Most of the time I have just enough energy to do whatever that day requires. And some days I run out early. (I usually make no sense at all after that!) And on other days I just plain don’t even want to try. So then I hope that being sick and disabled is an excuse He will accept. Fat chance! Those are the times that the Lord likes to blow my mind by asking me to do something utterly impossible without His help. And, low and behold, I can do it after all. 😳 “… But because you say so, I will…” Luke 5:5

Meanwhile, strangely enough, I actually consider myself extremely blessed, and fortunate. God has given me a learning curve that is pretty steep at times, but that curve has actively demonstrated to me that my ability to perform, is ZERO. I learnt to rejoice in my weakness. I discovered His strength really IS made perfect in weak people – because I ARE one! With the Lord I can do anything, without Him I can’t even tie my own shoes. What a blessing this life is! I feel very sorry for other able-bodied people who have to wrangle with the reality of this verse, because they are hindered by their own human talents, strength and abilities – including the ability to push themselves … and I am not. Bye… 👋🏻  Hang on folks…  Easter is not over …Sunday’s coming!!
